Great video! I have two questions: 1) Can you silicone the tiles together, especially if you want to use them as background as well ? 2) Would limestone tile work as well, or do they change the ph of the water?

I'm curious too i have a 40 gallon breeder walls and floor tiled using stone tile and 100% silicone tank sealant and I love the look of it. I upgraded my dragon to a custom built enclosure and want to use the tiled breeder for a fish tank. I was wondering the same thing you asked so if anyone knows please let us know.

Hi Joey. My 75 gal goldfish tank was hard to keep the gravel clean. It was always filthy. I used your idea and tiled it instead. I left 1/2 inch border all the way around and filled it with large gravel. Thanks for the tip.

This got me thinking... I bet this would work really well as a cap to a dirted tank instead of gravel or sand.
You could leave a gap between the tiles and make a line across the back with a gap, and simply plant into soil between them.
A few jungle vals will easily fill in the spots you leave for them.
One of the things I dislike most about my dirted tank is that its more difficult to clean thoroughly without disrupting the dirt layer. A tile cap over a centimeter of sand would be so much easier to clean.

Is there something that we need to be looking for when selecting or using tiles? I have read conflicting information based on the type of tile or what may be on it. Glazed, unglazed, slate, ceramic, etc. Could you provide some extra info about what someone might be looking for or what would make one aquarium safe?

I put some tiles in my 75 gallon Discus tank today but they do not lay flat close to the edges because of the black silicone on the inside edges of the tank is in the way. Will this be a problem with stuff getting under there? Yours look like they went in nice and flat. Love the look though. Thanks for the videos. Love them.

I think this would look much better with rectangular tiles that are as long as your tank is deep. This would eliminate any horizontal lines, leaving you with just vertical lines, making your tank look even deeper and a lot cleaner.

Think this would work in a small outdoor pond? I'm considering using a 300 gallon "stock tank" for an outdoor goldfish pond and I'm a bit concerned that the fish would get "lost" in a black bottomed pond where they would show up better with a light grey bottom. Know it goes against tradition but I want to see my fish.

crazy cotton Some fish will need sand or gravel but aside from bottom feeders, most fish don't need it. I built a 10g tank with a single slab of ceramic slate and siliconed the edges (recommend doing twice to ensure waterproofness). Looks great and easy clean up. After replacing my graveled tank, I emptied out the gravel and boy were there left over gunk and waste collected below the gravel. Made it clear to me that bare bottom is the way to go!
