    Thanks Steph for the detailed ammo research. I shot some Lapua Act-X and some Eley Tenex the other day just trying to get a feel of how it shoots. These were some boxes that a viewer sent to me to test. I had no idea that they were higher end (expensive) ammo as I don't shoot matches or competition. I have quite a few of the other SK, Eley, CCI, Norma ammo to try out, but I just use a suppressed semi-auto and basically prefer plinking between 25 to 50 yards. In other words, the mid to low range works for me.

    That was a very realistic comparison! Been comparing a lot of garden variety Rem, Win, and Fed, against RWS Match Rifle, and Eley Target (vintage ammo) in a Savage MkII and a Winchester 69A, and repeatedly found Aguila Super Extra shooting very close to what I could do with the RWS Match. Its nice when you can get performance at a cheap price!

    Would be interesting to see how the same ammo selection holds up on 100/150/200 yards (and beyond...). CZ457 on order here in Belgium and been doing some research on quality/price ammo. SK Standard seems to top most of them. Btw, don't change the tshirt, very relatable.

    Nice video. I like conducting ammo tests myself and just did a bunch on my CZ 457 Pro Varmint about a month ago. I do prefer to be consistent in all of my tests though, and I tend to go above and beyond the "standard" testing methods to ensure I get the most accurate data. I see sometimes you shoot 5 foulers/sighters and other times you shoot 10 foulers. Different ammos use different types of lubricant and to get the barrel properly fouled in, 10 shots is typically enough but 5 is not IMO. I just saw you mentioned this at 14:54. Obviously when you're swapping between all the Eley, 5 sighters is probably more than enough but I just prefer to 100% consistent in the way I test. My goal for testing is to shoot the ammo once and get the most accurate results possible. This is how I test. I shoot 20 foulers followed by six 5-shot groups (total of 50rds). Then I eliminate my worst group (which likely contains a wind, shooter, or ammo induced flier). Then I use my best 5 groups for an average group size. You really get a good feel of what the ammo is capable of when you shoot six separate 5-shot groups. Like at 10:07, your 10rd sighter group was great with no low shots. Then you drop one low shot which opens up your first group up. I would love to see what five or six different 5-shot groups of that ammo looks like. At 16:44 you changed your testing method and shot an extra group because you shot 4 in the same hole, then had a flier. I completely understand why you did that (because you saw potential). I just prefer a larger sample size so the results don't get skewed one way or another. I realize you have to shoot a lot more ammo to test my way, but if you're trying to get the most accurate data, and you don't want to be questioning yourself afterward about how the ammo would shoot if you hadn't pulled that one shot low, etc., you would really benefit from shooting 5 or 6 five-shot groups. Just thought I would throw that out there. That gun is definitely a shooter. My best 5 shot group averages are in the mid .4's shooting suppressed with SK pistol match. Mine did not like Eley match or target at all and shot them in the mid .6's (worse than CCI standard velocity). It did shoot Eley subsonic hollow point well. I just bought some more SK pistol match to investigate further since I think it has some extra potential. I had one .20" group and four 4-shot groups that were .05-.25" with one flier each, bumping them up in the ~.4-.5". range...

      Wow this is quite the message. First of all thanks for taking the time and sharing your findings. As a detailed person, the roughest of this test very much on purpose. I think I mentioned this in one of my videos but the idea is to rule out ammos that are not even going to come close to the top. If an ammo can’t come close to the top in 20 shots or less I’m not going to waste my time. I’m looking for the best and the very best will shine instantly. I tested all the Eley and Sk ammo in succession aka with the same lube. Sometimes I didn’t care to do more then the 5 shot sighter if I shot 2 previous Sk or Eley ammos. My biggest concern was changing from Eley to Sk… so on. Very different lubricants.
      Ammo is very expensive and this test is very much bare bones quick overview test.
      Yes as you mentioned, a part 2 would be to do a much more extensive test, you are right.
      Cheers.

    Excellent video. The fact that you shot in different conditions will have some impact on the results. Unfortunately the more expensive the ammo the more consistent the ammo tends to be. My CZ likes Eley Match, Tenex, Team and the Sport. Contact and Force is OK, but not great. I have not been able to get the semi auto or Pistol Match. I use CCI Target to get my practice in, get my stock set in the way I like it or merely practice my breathing and trigger pull. Works just fine, but not for match shooting as there tends to be a flyer every so often with the CCI Target. For practice that really doesn’t matter. Not to mention the price versus the top end Eley ammo. It is about time behind the rifle when practicing. Often time behind the rifle is worth more than the ammo being used. Know your rifle.

    Hi Steph, thanks for the videos, very good! I practice precision shooting at 50m. I'm on the fence about buying a $2,000 Anschutz or the $1,500 CZ457 LRP. What advice would you give me? Thanks.

    • @AvidhunterDupuis
      @AvidhunterDupuis  Рік тому +2

      I’ve shot very few Anschutz in my life and from what I can see they are very good. I really don’t think they will disappoint.
      I guess it boils down to why you want it and what do you want to use it for? Competition? Enjoy shooting for shooting sake? Beating your friends? Plinking?
      For myself, I love taking a gun and getting it to shoot the best it can and I love beating my buddies and I don’t do competitions and I love sharing my data with others. So, my CZ 457 MTR does the job perfectly. Is it as good as a Anschutz or Vudoo? No. But man she shoots good. My buddy shoots the LRP and results in general are very similar. Just a sexier looking gun then my MTR.
      I’m not going to decide for you because I think deep down inside you might already know which one you want. Both are fantastic man.

    I’m not sure how you are measuring your groups. But the numbers are way off. A .240 group. The bullets will almost touch each other. Center to center is how to measure. Measure the outside to outside of the furthest two shots and subtract.220 from that. That’s the bore size. That will be you measurements center to center. The Eley .24 group you show is close to a half inch group.

    • @AvidhunterDupuis
      @AvidhunterDupuis  Рік тому +1

      Yes so the correct way to measure a group Center to Center: I take my digital calipers, and I measuring outside edge of a bullet to the very outside edge of a bullet hole. Aka measuring the very outside edge of the two bullets that are the furthest distance apart. That’s comes in at 0.438 ( yes it looks like just under half inch) minus the width of a bullet (0.223)= giving you a perfect Center to Center group measurement of 0.215”. Make sense?
      The bullet is almost 1/4”. If you shot 5 shots in one perfect hole would you call that a group of 0 C to C ? Or a group of 0.223”? We are measuring Center to Center. Hope that makes sense.

    • @jwoodshed1108
      @jwoodshed1108 Рік тому

      @@AvidhunterDupuis all 5 in the same hole will be a 0.000 center to center group. You measure center of the hole to the center of the hole.
      A .240 group will have all 5 shots touching each other. The Eley Tenex group that you have marked .240 looks like a 0.400- 0.450 size group.

      @AvidhunterDupuis  Рік тому

      Yeah so I just measured that one again and I’m getting a 0.470” outside measurement. 0.247” so it could be rounded up.

      I actually wish it was better. I expected better results from the Tenex.

    • @AvidhunterDupuis
      @AvidhunterDupuis  Рік тому

      I’m finding that the Eley team and Tenex make nice clean holes compared the messy holes of everything else as they are designed to do. How would you measure it? Do you just throw the callipers middle to middle and kinda guess the middle? You make a good point because it does look odd.

    • @jwoodshed1108
      @jwoodshed1108 Рік тому

      @@AvidhunterDupuis Just want you to be able to compare group sizes with everyone. wasnt trying to irritate you. Your .240 groups are twice the size of my .240 groups. A .240 group will have only .020 gap between bullets touching. You have plenty of room to fit a bullet between your outside holes. that makes it around .400 group. No big deal.
