Hey..I am the first view and thumbs up...lol. I was waiting to hear your opinion on the Tikka versus the AT-ONE...thanks for all the testing it is helping me to decide on which rifle to buy.
My pleasure, pretty great comment. I'll be interested to hear which rifle you decided to go with. I will be doing more direct comparisons down the road.
Hi Bret! Been following you for the whole series 😂 joking aside it’s been really great and much appreciated. My only real criticism is IMO you can’t compare them side by side, The Tikka is a “crossover” rifle in a plastic factory stock with a semi-sports profile barrel and a sports action/chamber leaning towards hunting/field sports shooting. Whereas the CZ is an all out target rifle with custom stock, match grade action/chamber and a heavy weight target profile barrel. For versatility and if I could only have one it would have to be the Tikka! Kind regards as always, Clive from across the pond in deepest Dorset England 🏴🇺🇸
I agree 100% and thanks for explaining that so well, for me without doubt I will be moving forward with the CZ for benrect matches. Since I own a Tikka I looked up NRL22 matches in my area. I think one day I may use the Tikka for that type of match. On that same line I from time to time get to the desert for some good old plinking, prior to owning the CZ, the Tikka was my competition benchrest rifle and did not want to take the Tikka to the desert but that has all changed. As you mentioned the Tikka is a "crossover" and I believe if a great Multi-Purpose Rifle maybe that best MP rifle for me at this point. I bet in the ARA Factory match there have been more 2500 shot with the Tikka than any other rifle. Mostly because more folks are shooting the Tikka. I have no numbers or data to back that up, just an educated guess.
Thanks Bret for coming back to me. Just to fill in a couple of blanks, I have just got rid of my Lithgow 101 in .22 and replaced it with the Tikka, really just because of the Lithgow’s appalling non-adjustable trigger, having said that when all the planets were in alinement and there was a blue moon, like the Tikka, it could be a tack driver 😂 hence I wanted another “crossover “ My next project will definitely be with a CZ 457 in some sort of configuration, that is of course as soon as the Police return my renewed firearm certificate! Kind regards Clive.
So, I assume you you would not necessarily recommend the Lithgow. I have been thinking but possibly trying one but the non-bull or think barrel kept me away. I am probably about done buying 22 rifles for a while. I should probably make some room in my safe.
I know this video is a little old now but cci standard in my 457 jag I got a 2200 on the ARA but with one big miss completely off the target. Just goes to show it "can" be a good shooter in some guns but as well as QC can and a cheap box of ammo can make you be completely off the paper. I found my sweet spot with SK LR match with price to performance.
Nice to see you found and I like what you call it your sweet spot ammo. I have some long range and shot it a little. I just bought two more brink because the SK LR seems to be getting good results.
@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV compared to midas+ my results were just to close I couldn't justify the extra $10 a box on this midas for a measly 50 more points on the ARA center x stole the show but barely once again maybe 50- 100 points? My gun absolutely hates everything eley I have no idea why eley tennex only scored like 1850 and eley match scored about the same this was on a very calm warm day as well just goes to show every gun even from the same manufacturer is very different when it comes to ammo
which bi pod is that?? trying to find a nice steady one for all of my boyd at one stocks. thanks! loved the video helped me a lot with choosing some new ammo!
Both my CZ 457's seem to prefer LAPUA and WOLF [German] Gold Match for tight groups. It is a shame that now the German WOLF match is no longer available. Disappointed me to no end. It was, by far, the most accurate .22 match fodder available. Now ELEY makes and imports it, bummer!
What is the difference between match rifle .22lr and hunting rifle .22lr? Is match rifle .22lr less lethal for game hunting because of barrel twist rates? Anticipating your reply, thanks.
Well to keep it simple, match barrels are heavier longer and really not fun to carry around. The CZ is not a match barrel but it is a simi-heavy barrel and a long barrel. I am sure each rifle are equally lethal, so don’t point either rifle at something you don’t intend on destroying.
@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV how do you handle your mind for next shot when you hit the bullseye in your present shot in Competition? (Do you think and swear to yourself that you will hit bullseye even in next shot?) and also how do you handle if you miss it after giving your best - do you keep thinking is it because of i)wind, ii)bullet, iii)yourself (when actually it may be because of other factors. What are the other possible factors apart from the three mentioned above?) Thank you, waiting for your reply.
The cz457 pictures has a "varmint" barrel. Which is a middle ground between a match/heavy/target barrel profile and a hunting profile. You really could use most 457s as a target rifle or a hunting rifle. All though they are quite heavy at average 7-8lbs.
I had high hopes for the Eley Subsonic in my Ruger pistol and was disappointed in the results. Out of the subsonics, CCI SS shot the best and even Remington SS shot well. Norma SS and CCI Suppressor were horrible. Winchester SS........meh, as long as I don't try to lop off spruce chikin and ptarmigan heads with it. BTW, the Remington labeled Eley Target shot very well and is my backup working woods load. I don't think you'll have any problems shooting ARA out of the CZ with it.
Excellent, If you are in the us sign up for my ammo give away maybe you'll have a chance to try out many types of ammo. Video for Give Away ua-cam.com/video/yr5lfi0ygXs/v-deo.html
I have shot ely for years in match guns must be lot tested to see which machine runs it the best for your gun then get that particular lot to shoot in the tennex I got one gun that’s shoots the best groups with tennex run on machine 5 the old wolf match extra shot pretty well good in all my rifles I have not tried none of the new
Please don't make the big mistake by judging ammo by group sizes only. You are shooting factory ARA like me. I have ammo that shoots lights out group sizes but as good on target scores. I've done this time after time some ammo will shoot ok group size but better scores on the ARA target then best shooting group ammo. looks like X-ACT and Eley 10X had best scores. Now take your best group shooting ammo and your best scoring ammo and go out and shoot 3-4 targets with each and see what one has highest avg. score. I think you will be very surprise In the end your looking for best score not the best group.
GREAT Comment, I hear what your saying. For me shooting groups is how I start to select potencial ammo for shooting in a rifle. I have experienced pretty much what you are saying. Example with the CZ457 AT ONE Eley Target shot the smallest groups but the ARA target was not good. Currently I am shooting Eley Practice 100 and shot my very first 2500 last weekend. I am playing around with sorting ammo and of course reading the wind. This is a fun learning experience for sure.
Good question, I did not shoot the Wolf mostly because depending on which Wolf it is made by either Eley or SK (Lapua). I’ll see is I can do a test but it will be in a while, Maybe when I do a “Shooting in the Wind” video
wrong scope for that rifle. that would drive me nuts hitting that windage knob every time I cycled the bolt! My buddy has the exact set up...that scope is so ridiculously heavy it makes off hand shooting about impossible, at least for respectable shots. it even looks like the wrong scope for the gun. what if you had a 90 degree throw on the bolt?
Marktwo, Thanks for all your comments. Please be aware I am a Benchrest shooter only. At least this rifle is only used for the ARA Benchrest matches. Over time I have been able to over come the issues I had hitting the windage knob and is no longer an issue. I believe the scope is the best choice for the ARA Factory Benchrest match and like you mentioned would not be a good choice for off-hand shooting. Benchrest shooters typically Benchrest shooters like the extra weight.
I you referring to the scope? You would think so but then it would mess up my eye relief. I may play with this in the future maybe turning down the magnification may help with my eye relief so I can move the scope up. I really have not played around with making myself more comfortable behind the rifle, I'll get there.
Happy times are here again!! The German made Wolf" Gold Match" is now beginning to re appear on dealer's shelves. My prayers have been answered!
Like this format, concise with detail, appreciate the group size as well as ARA score, for me better than ES/SD
Thanks John

Now that's good grouping for a regular chambered rifle (non match) 22 rifle. I just might get the varmint model I've been eyeballing.
I have one and I love it.
Move the windage knob closer to the ejection port and reset your rings and you wont hit your hand anymore and will be centered on your cheek piece.
Thanks James, I seem to have worked out my issues for the months. Now I never hit is.
My 457 AO has a strong preference for expensive ammo, and likes Lapua Cx and Midas, and RWS R50/100

Hi,
Have you tried " SK high velocity match" at 100 yards from your CZ platform?
I have not, I typically stay away from high velocity ammo. Maybe I should try. Your thoughts?
I’ve heard high velocity in .22 can do unwanted things when it goes subsonic
I think I'll go ahead and buy the varmint 22 lr model. I hope it shoots as well as yours.
