With your inspiration in my back pocket I headed out to the local thrift shop. I found the best mug ever for this technique, in my opinion. Coincidentally it has a half inch wide band of glaze around the outside at the rim which also coats the inside. So I snagged it and set to work. I created my mandala mug a few years ago following your pattern and it is a good as new. I recommend giving it a try. Currently I’m working on a rather large mandala canvas. Thanks for your fabulous tutorial.
I truly love your work, all your videos and how helpful you are! I actually learned mandala painting from you and I couldn't be happier! I have been dying to try mug making and this video is just great so thank you!! Happy mandala making! Peace love and light from New York ❤
Your correct in saying there is coffee to be had everywhere in WA. I have lived in the state three different times being a coffee drinker I considered that part a small bit of heaven. Paints have changed considerably since I painted and so glad to hear about the reasoning behind multi-purpose. Thx
I’m waiting for my dotting tools to arrive in the mail, but in the meantime, i find it mesmerizing and relaxing just watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your talent!
My Dearest Kristin... you are so the BEST! Love this tutorial to the max... I am working on wine glasses and now will get some mugs and make use of the oven in one go... thank you and love you to the max 😘
I got inspired by this one... And I made one mandala dotted mug for the first time without having proper dotting tools.. thankfully it came out pretty well... Thank you so much for this video tutorial. The design is very pretty..♥️
That's so awesome. Love it. You always teach us such fabulous stuff. Didn't know you could put them in oven. One day have to try. Thank you for all you do for us. Very much appreciated. ❤
This is a great video. I didn't know about the dishwasher safe paint like you used. A whole new thing for me to try. Thanks for all your time in doing these videos for us.
This is fantastic! I really love that you’re doing two videos. One using an option you can do at home and one at a ceramic studio. I’m very much looking forward to the next one too! You do such a nice job with your videos. Thank you for sharing your time and talent with everyone!
I've used the old Pebeo bake on paints but not these so I look forward to hearing how these hold up. I lived in Sedro Woolley for six months as a teenager and I loved how beautiful Washington is. I love seeing it again in your videos.
Thank you so much. I have been wanting to do this but haven’t found clear instructions. I have admired your work. New to this since October. And you are a Washingtonian like me.
This was really nice and informative! Thanks for leaving in when you made a mistake and how you fixed it. I learned something when that happened! Many edit these out! Have a great day!
Some how this video did not pop up in my notifications. I've been painting mugs and love it so much, one of my favorite surfaces to paint on. This video has confirmed for me that they are in fact cured and dishwasher safe as my dishwasher doesn't work so I couldn't test it. Beautiful work as always, Thank you I can't wait for the glazing video
Ms Kristin - Once again you have shared with us a great tutorial. I can't wait to make some mugs! I am having my first dotting class in May and will make a mug for each of the attendees. I'm sure they will enjoy and probably want to make one while the class is going. You Rock!
Your videos are amazing! Your voice is so therapeutic. May sound weird. But your videos are so relaxing! This turned out amazing! I make mugs as well! And it is so much fun!
Thank you so much, Linda. A lot of people don't know , but I am a singer/musician. My husband and I owned a music store for 37 years. Maybe that has something to do with the tone of my voice.
Just spent about 200€ to buy a huge set of glass and porcelain pain thinking that acrylic paint that I have (a lot of it) is not supposed to be used as a mug paint...sully me. Thank you for the video.
What a great idea, Kristin! I love your close-ups. I love coffee, too. So does my husband. What's your favorite way to make coffee? It looks like you know what you're talking about, so I'd be curious. Thanks for another great tutorial! :)
We've tried every technique and every machine, and we all prefer the pour-over technique shown in the video. It is the least expensive, and we always grind the beans one up at a time for the freshest flavor. We buy large bags of whole beans from Costco. ;)
I will definitely try this route. Do you take your coffee with cream and sugar or black? I like Italian sweet cream most of the time but if it's a really delicious cup of joe, I'll take it black. As always, love your videos, and thanks for replying to my question. Also, is there any kind of coffee you prefer, or just the Costco brand? Happy dotting! I'm getting addicted to this art, too.
Hi Kristen… I still do enjoy your tutorials. I was wondering if you have used - DecoArt Gloss Enamels for your glass/ceramic projects? Hope all is well with you. Hugs from California 💕
Hi Kristin! Love your videos! Some day I want to copy everything you have done in the tutorials on 3 inch wooden disks. I have a challenge for you today. You have been going wonderfully dotty for a while now- have you ever considered adding teardrop shapes to your mandalas? I was looking at a photo of the exterior of the Chartres cathedral rose window, and thinking that those tear drop shapes which point inwards might be a good design for some future mandala video. What do you think?
This is such a beautiful idea. I was thinking about letters. How would you do this style with letters? I'd like to give these as gifts for family members at Christmas and use their initials.
Have you had any issues with the paint not curing after baking? I did clean the surface with alcohol, but I have a tendency to lay my hand on the mug. I'm thinking I had issues because I wasn't wearing latex gloves.... just curious if you've had any issues.
I am SO grateful to have found this particular tutorial (love all of yours!) I have been dotting on plates, mugs and small dipping bowls and baking them but some of the paints bubble (always the metallic) and I was wondering why. I typically use pouring medium which now I know is not appropriate. And I've used both Deco Art and Folk Art but I think most of them are acrylic paints and not multi-purpose. Do the regular acrylic paints not work, even if a pouring medium is not used?
@@Mary-357 Let your piece dry for 1 hour to be sure all layers of paint have dried. Place piece in a cool oven. Set oven temperature to 350 degrees F and bake project for 30 minutes. Glass must heat gradually with the oven to avoid breakage.
@@groovyhippiechick sorry what do you meant by cold oven is it like not a pre heated oven? My 2nd question is it necessary to bake mugs, can't we just paint then apply varnish and mod podge dishwasher coat
Thanks Kristin for this another beautiful tutorial. Have you ever used America multi-surface paint? Do you know if they are as good as those folk-art colors? Unfortunately, they are not found in Italy.... Thank you
I love it!!! Definitely going to try this. Also, this may sound like a silly question, but would I need to make sure the mug is oven safe as well? Or will dishwasher/microwave safe do just a well?
Thanks Kristin. Beautiful mugs! I look forward to your. video tutorials. I really liked your coffee filter. Where can I find one? Also, please share the brand name of the paints you used in this video.
Very pretty. Thanks for lots of good information! One thing I wonder, tho, is what you do with your paint when you’re finished a project. Throwing it away seems like such a waste....do you save it? Thanks again
Without oven how can we get mugs cured? Please reply me I want to try this and this video helped me a lot as I am a beginner so I need a detailed video n this is what I needed. .. so thank u 😇😇 but please give the answer. .

Hello! Can one still use regular acrylic for this purpose? I’ve done a few mugs and cured them in the oven and then washed them with soap - I tried to rub the painting a bit to see what would happen and the paint started to come off. Was it because the acrylics were not the multi purpose ones? Or should one always be careful when washing these hand painted mugs? Any advice will be very appreciated 😊 thanks, Rita

Very beautiful! I use Decoart enamel paint. They have to cure for 4 days then you bake them.
Can I ask you do youmean those small tins of enamel paint, how do you bake it plastic? Just put it on the oven or what please?

So you don't have to use porcelain paint? I looked up this video to see if you could paint on mugs like a landscape or something. Pretty cool.

That is really cool
Absolutely awesome thank you!

Hi Kristen. This is a great tutorial. I wanted to ask though, how did you determine the centre of the mug? Did you just eyeball it?
This is great I love it ❤️❤️it will be my next project 😍❤️❤️ liked dear new friend! thank you! im new
Kristin...your work is just beautiful. Can I use any of the mugs sold on Amazon or do you suggest the one you used only? Thanks for your help.
Real nice mug!
Beautiful !! Can you use Americana acrylic on the mugs and put in oven to cure?!
