    If I may make a suggestion on finding the center of anything that is fairly flat. I was trained in the 1960's as a commercial artist ( back in the day before it was called graphic arts on computers). Lay a straight edge ( either a ruler or anything staight) on the surface from one diagonal corner to the other and draw a faint line near what you think will be the center. Then do the same on the other diaganol corners. You will then have a cross which is the dead center. Two simple, quick, accurate movements without the need to use a measuring tool. For a round surface like a rock you can use a string to do approximately the same thing. I hope this might help. When I was working we had to get things done fast and any trick of the trade helped. 😊

    Varnish vs resin?

    • @MirandaPitrone
      @MirandaPitrone  2 роки тому

      Honestly I've never used resin. I think it's too messy, you need a well ventilated area, things stick in it while it's drying so you need it to be covered, the temperature has to be just right in the area you live, and the varnishes that I use are all one step try to the touch within an hour or so. Also the ones I've used are waterproof and UV resistant, so I've never felt the need to use resin

I enjoyed the entire tutorial, and, thank you for the option of NOT following lines all the time! I go more by my feel (cause I'm a rebel like that). I've noticed that people either enjoy me talking out the process. Or they don't like hearing me talk. That really feels like it's fifty fifty. But I have always felt a video is difficult to see really. What the person is doing or thinking... especially with design work. Also I feel like it helps to say things like. I'm pushing down harder on my brush. Or now. I'm picking up the brush. Cause you can't really see that in the video. I've tried to make that my goal to do in every video

    Hi Miranda, thank you for your video! Explained really well and I want to try. I am a total beginner and I was wondering if I can paint mandalas in my room (I usually do all of my hobbies in my room) or if the paint is too smelly.

    • @MirandaPitrone
      @MirandaPitrone  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, these paints have virtually no odor. They are water-based acrylics. I paint in my livingroom and I let my children use these paints on a regular basis. Welcome to the art community. I have many other videos I hope you will find helpful💗💗

    First let me thank you for this very helpful and informative video! I do want to say one thing, though in regards to using the cap from your paint to dot. I'm new to dotting but I'm not new to painting at all. I think this isn't a good idea to do (unless it's only for a few dots) because the longer the cap is off, the more your paint inside loses it's original fluidity from air reaching it. The more you do this, the thicker your paint will likely become. Thank you especially for explaining how to enlarge the dots when using the stylus. I prefer the stylus over the flat dotting tool but was having trouble figuring out how to symmetrically enlarge a dot. Thank you!

    • @MirandaPitrone
      @MirandaPitrone  4 роки тому

      Yes the cap off too long will make "boogers" haha Gross

    Great tutorial! Thank you I've found it very helpful. I've struggled to find canvasses that are already black so would have to paint. Would I varnish it after painting it black (once it dries), or wait until the very end after dotting? Also would gloss spray do the trick?

    • @MirandaPitrone
      @MirandaPitrone  4 роки тому +2

      Hello and welcome! You can just use a matte black paint to prep the canvas or a black gesso. I would not varnish until you are done with your masterpiece. Personally I do not ever use sprays. I have had some bad experiences where they sprayed out chemicals and ruined a few pieces. I only use brush on varnish. That is just my personal preference 💖 I am so happy to "meet" you and I am looking forward to hearing from you in the future. Feel free to message me anytime💖

      I would love to see names possibly, using swirls and dots embedded amongst the dotting. My young son loves the colours in mandala art and I would love to surprise him with a piece with his name on. Once i get going of course, and I feel more confident 😁

    Thanks for the video as I am a newbie to dot art. One thing I have to say is, I could never paint a rock; maybe a brick or a cinder block. It's kinda' like tattoos: they both feel like defacing an already beautiful surface. Skin or stone, they both can stand on their own, alone. But, whatever melts your butter.... I'm off to the craft store with a list of items that, thanks to you, I now know what I need to really get started on one of the oldest art forms known to humankind. Again, "he nui ka mahalo!" ::=={o )

I've collected Stones my whole life so I can understand the appreciation for the all natural stone. There are plenty of other things we can paint. I hope you were able to get some. Welcome to the Dotting world

    • @MirandaPitrone
      @MirandaPitrone  6 років тому +1

      Thank you so much! The peaks usually have to do with a paint consistency issue. Thicker paint = more peaks. Thin your paints with some water, that might help lesson the effect :)
