I legitimately watched over 20 tutorials for invisible zippers today, some only for 20 seconds as they were far too complicated to begin with. However, your walkthrough was extremely thorough, easy to understand, and made me feel like a winner when my dang pillow zipper was actually invisible!!! Thank you so much for encouraging me to “go slowly” in my work. My pillow looks store-bought and I’m not frustrated!! Hope you don’t mind I added it to Pinterest so I could find it again!
Thank you for making this tutorial, I have watched so many videos and until watching yours I never felt like I had the right instruction. I have been procrastinating on a love one's zipper repair for a year. (thank God for their patience). But as I have never done an invisible zipper before, and I as I tried once and failed miserably, I needed your expert instructions. Now I will try it!
I am getting ready to construct a vintage Vogue dress with an invisible back zipper. I will be using some really expensive fabric that I don't want to screw it up so, I have watched every invisible zipper tutorial on UA-cam. Yours is, by far, the easiest method and the best explained. Unlike most sewing tutorials, yours explains WHY you do what you do. This makes it so much more meaningful and understandable. Thank you very, very much for this invaluable instruction. A good teacher makes all the difference. Well done!
Thank you so very much, so thorough. I have watched so many tutorials on this. All was so confusion and rushed. You simplify and made it so easy. Thanks 🙏
Awesome tutorial! I have been avoiding the invisible zippers. I am a self taught fashion designer and this was one area that was giving me trouble. But today I grabbed my zipper and some scrap fabric and remembered your tutorial and YES! I have finally accomplished this. Thank you for taking time out to share. Many blessings to you.
I have legit been trying to put in an invisible for 2 weeks. Trying every day for 2. Weeks. I'm nearly bald now. Thank you so much for explaining why to do each step, it made it a lot easier to understand exactly what to do and finally, success!
Thank you I have been trying since school (scarred by a horrible sewing teacher!) to master invisible zips and you have helped me conquer this technique! In one afternoon I have put in two invisible zippers! Thank you.
Thank you! I'm using a vintage treadle machine. No zigzag. No moveable needle. Back stitch means turning the work around... Your video covered everything I needed to know, and the result is beautiful.
I must tell you that I've been using this technique and I love it. now I sew invisible zippers in no time and with no problems. thank you sooooo much for sharing this information xoxo
Awesome material. I really appreciate your work. There are so many videos about installing invisible zip but most of them don't really go to the bottom of the problem.I've watched so many of them, they look easy but miss the key tricks to succeed (in my opinion) . You show precisely what exactly needs to be done (unfolding the coils etc). Breaking down the process is the best way for me to follow and learn. Video is consistent, easy to understand and basically appears professional! Thanks for that! 😊
Great tutorial. I feel ready to tackle my invisible zipper. Basting the seam first and ironing it down relieves me tremendously. I also spent $15 on an invisible zipper foot but you seem to do just fine with a regular zipper foot.
I always get compliments for my regular zippers doing them similar to the way you showed. I wanted to refresh my memory so watched some videos on invisible zips before I did one and NONE of them basted the seam first! This seemed strange to me but I assumed I was wrong and tried it- complete disaster! Your video is so clear and helpful. You restored my confidence in sewing zips! Thank you x
Best explanation I have seen! Thank you for taking the time to explain the steps and taking the time to put the camera where we needed to see what you were doing :)
Thank you for this video! I'm the kind of sewer who knows all of the steps to install a zip correctly... but then when it's time to actually do it, I forget all of the basting steps. I really liked that, at every step, you talked about why you were doing it, and what doing it correctly would look like, and what the effects of doing a poor job would be. It really drove home the message to just... take your time, do it right.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Beautiful liberty print dress from a charity (thrift) shop, pale grey blue floral, why did manufacturer put in a bright cream ordinary zip with no cream in the dress? Thanks to you, I've just put in an almost matching invisible zip, I am so thrilled. Now the dress looks fabulous and won't gape any more. It was driving me crazy, every time I did up the old zip, the fabric caught in it, as it was sewn down further over to the edge, now problem solved forever, I am so happy you made this clear and easy video, emphasising the importance of rolling the zip teeth aside, magic! Cannot thank you enough...
Totally agree! Most invisible zipper tutorials out there are not this detailed-leaving me confused and feeling as if I haven't learned anything! I watched this earlier this year but had to come back! Thanks so much!
I've been sewing for more than 45 years. Out of fear, I've always installed lap zippers, too scared to try an invisible zipper. Wow! Your video is EXCELLENT! I'm going to jump in and give it a try on a skirt this weekend. Thank you for such clean, concrete directions with excellent visuals to support what you are teaching. I'm so grateful! Thank you.
You rock!! Best tutorial I’ve seen. Gave me the courage to try it so this weekend I sewed my first zipper ever, an invisible one of that, and was very pleased with the result. 😁
Thank you so much for this very clear, simple and informative video😭 I have been trying forever to learn how to sew a zipper nicely and this video was just what I needed!!! Now my skirt looks great and you can't see the zipper!!! 👌💕
Thank you for this!!! I'm currently installing my first invisible zipper while waiting for my invisible zipper foot to arrive and it does look like I won't be needing that foot at all! 😃
Eryn.....love your tutorial and Style Sew Me site! Thank you for all your tips and inspiration. I have always thought about doing an invisible zipper by basting the seam first but you beat me to it!
This was a super tutorial - I'd like to add - even though it is 3 years since the last comment - that, by using 1/4" ---wash away --- (water soluable) sticky tape - (look for Wonder Tape), you can eliminate both the pins used to attach the zipper to the fabric, and the basting down of the zipper. Additionally, I don't know this for sure - but a while back -25 years ago! you had to know if you had a short shank or long shank - machine - when you buy additional - attachments. And speaking about attachments - there used to be invisible zipper feet attachments sold specifically for the use of invisible zippers. The zipper food works well, but the specific invis. zipper foot (used to get them where zippers were sold in fabric shops)(not expensive) --have grooves that guide the coils of the invis. zipper. And again - they included long & short shank feet. Perhaps currently - sewing machine mfgs. decided on universally sized shanks - I don't know - but look in your owner's manual to check. Lastly, this was so beautifully done, I wish all the tutorials I ever looked up were as precisely done as this, and as fully explained. I am so grateful! I needed a refresher - and found your tutorial to be the best. You are a fantastic teacher! I've been sewing for almost 55 years and have not put in --invisible zippers in a long time and wow, I needed this! Thank you, again!
Thanks, Deb. It is always so great for me to have someone with your sewing experience find value in my videos! I' have that invisible zipper foot that you mention. For some reason, I find that I can get my stitching closer to the teeth without using it. I'm sure I need to practice more because the feet are supposed to make things easier! I think I'd be more comfortable with it if I was able to see the needle strike - if that makes sense. Thanks for the added info!
I have been doing the same process up to the point where you have finished basting one side of the zipper to the seam allowance. I don't just baste. I sew it normally. I then close the zipper and sew the other zipper tape to the other seam allowance. Then I undo the seam basting and do the final sewing with the seam open. The sewing on the seam allowance keeps the zipper in the right place. I also find it easier if the zipper is a couple of centimetres longer than the desired opening. If there is a little bit of extra zipper hanging loose at the bottom, it is not a problem.
Thanks for the excellent video. Best ever. You're instructions are so clear and thorough. Well done and thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us.
Great demonstration. I am looking to start making skirts for me and hope I can move to tops. :) It's challenging to find outfits that fit well and compliment my body. You explained that really well and have Inspired me to try it. Thank you!!
very professional not all video show to baste first which I was taught yrs ago by my grandma so yours is good and thanks for showing us all. I like you explain what your doing all the way
Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial! Just finished a skirt and needed a good zipper explanation, yours gives me the confidence to get it right. Also, how beautiful are your hands? ☺️
Very well done tutorial. I found your explanation of exactly where the needle needed to be for sewing expecially helpful. You may enjoy the video on the Threads magazine channel showing Kenneth King installing an invisible zip a slightly different, but very similar way. Thank you for sharing.
How are still available...I truely enjoyed your tutorial. I was able to following alone and install an invisible zipper for the first time....thank you
Nice! I love invisible zippers, it gives a more professionam and elegant look to your clothes. In another tutorial I saw that u needed a special foot for invisible zippers but you shown there's a way to be able to do it with the normal zipper foot that comes with almost every sewing maching :) . Thanx for the well explain tutorial!
This is a great tutorial. I think the most important step is basting the seam and the zipper in place first because I could never get it aligned properly without doing that step.
I have one and don't prefer it because I can't see the zipper and where my needle is striking. I've found I can get closer to the teeth for a more invisible finish when I can see where my needle strike it. I like to have more control.
A lot of people have really good success learning to sew on an older machine that has less bells and whistles. I did. And that is what I recommend to my students instead of a new machine. Mine was ancient and only had zigzag and straight stitches and I was able to do all I needed to do! The great thing about rebuilt older machines are that you don't have to spend a lot of time learning how the computer gizmos work, you just learn how to sew, and they built machines out of metal in the 50's and 60's so they can sew through anything. Good brands are Singer, White, Sears (Roebuck), and Elna to name a few.

So agree with you , the easiest one by far.
True
Update: I nailed it with just my regular zipper foot! I'm so happy and thankful for your help! UA-cam is the reason I love the internet these days. ☺️
Great!!
Thank you so very much, so thorough. I have watched so many tutorials on this. All was so confusion and rushed. You simplify and made it so easy. Thanks 🙏

This is the best zipper tutorial ever! Every step was done slowly with explanations. Thank you.😊
I have legit been trying to put in an invisible for 2 weeks.

Thank you.
I like that you go very slowly, it helps a lot for a beginner like me!
I've been sewing for years and this is one the best I've ever seen!
Thank you! I'm using a vintage treadle machine. No zigzag. No moveable needle. Back stitch means turning the work around... Your video covered everything I needed to know, and the result is beautiful.
I realize I'm kind of randomly asking but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released series online?
@Brayden Marshall Lately I have been using Flixzone. Just google for it :)
@Brayden Marshall Try Flixzone. Just google for it =)
I must tell you that I've been using this technique and I love it. now I sew invisible zippers in no time and with no problems. thank you sooooo much for sharing this information xoxo

Finding you is a total game change and a Life saver. Thank you and may God continue to bless the Work of your hands

You're welcome! Basting is an extra step, and sometimes I get impatient, but my zips always come out cleanest when I baste first!
Best explanation I have seen! Thank you for taking the time to explain the steps and taking the time to put the camera where we needed to see what you were doing :)
This is the best invisible zipper placement I have seen! Excellent job, Thank You!

I feel you! I get impatient sometimes, or think 'oh that's not important, I'll skip that'.🙄I ALWAYS regret it when I shortcut.

Woohoo! You're welcome!
Thank you for this tutorial. This was by far the easiest to learn from, especially for beginners.
You actually give much more info about the zipper than most tutorials about this. Thank you.
Totally agree! Most invisible zipper tutorials out there are not this detailed-leaving me confused and feeling as if I haven't learned anything! I watched this earlier this year but had to come back! Thanks so much!

Excellent demonstration. Very clear and easy to understand thank you so much.
I came across this video when I sewed my first dress and now I find it easy to put zippers in.
Woooow you make it seem sooo easy! I have an order I need to insert a zipper so will be trying this one 😍😍
Great tutorial. I would recommend purchasing an invisible zipper foot if sewing many garments with zippers.
Best invisible zipper video evvverrrr!!!
Oh Missy! you are clever! Thank you
I have been using the invisible zipper foot but will have to try using the regular zipper foot. It looks easier. Thank you!
I have an invisible zipper foot, too! I get better results with this one because I can see what I'm doing better.
Great Explanation. Enjoyed your video. Thank you.
Fantastic tutorial!!!! can you post one about fly zipper for trousers? it would be very appreciated

I'm glad you found it helpful! I have an invisible zipper foot, but I prefer to see what I'm doing, so I like to use a standard zipper foot.
Thank you so much. You really do need to get in good and tight, but this is possible with your sewing machine's regular zipper foot.
Excellent tutorial. girl. sharp work. Thanx
Thanks, Ginger!
Great demo. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this info. It helped so much.
This was amazing! Thank you so much. Shared to the ends of the earth, because you need more subscribers :D. God bless!
This is a great tutorial. I think the most important step is basting the seam and the zipper in place first because I could never get it aligned properly without doing that step.
Yes! I used to try to skip that step and would have to fuss so much more with my zippers. It's super helpful. Tape works as well!
This was immensely helpful! Thanks for the great video :)
Excellent demo. Thank you.
Thank you. Finally, a video I understand!!!!
Glad it helped!
Great video. What are your thoughts on using an invisible zipper foot to get closer to the zipper teeth without sewing over them.
I have one and don't prefer it because I can't see the zipper and where my needle is striking. I've found I can get closer to the teeth for a more invisible finish when I can see where my needle strike it. I like to have more control.
Should u sew up the seam that the zipper is going in before u baste the section where the zipper is actually being inserted?
Do you mean to sew it twice? You'd only need to baste it, place the zipper, then remove the stitching.
very good detailed instructions. this is how i will do it.
Great tutorial, thanks!
underrated tutorial!!!!
Great work. Thanks for sharing.
You explain this so easily.
Great explanation!
Thank you so very much for this simplified tutorial, why do people find it difficult to simplify tutorials. Well done and keep it up
What machine are you using in this video?
Babylock Tempo.
yes great tutorial, love it!
I'm thinking of buying a machine, which one do you suggest?
I started on the Brother CS6000i.
A lot of people have really good success learning to sew on an older machine that has less bells and whistles. I did. And that is what I recommend to my students instead of a new machine. Mine was ancient and only had zigzag and straight stitches and I was able to do all I needed to do! Thank u, very good.
Hello. What type of machine do you use?
I use a Babylock Tempo.
FABULOUS!!!
