  • Installing invisible zippers are not easy, but with these pro tips it could be easy! In this tutorial I show you how to sew an invisible zipper using the invisible zipper presser foot and the regular presser foot. In fact, I use the invisible zipper foot more as a "basting" stitch and I go back in with the regular zipper foot. This makes the lock between your invisible zipper tape and seam stronger, which means you will less likely see the tape of the invisible zipper. We also use the regular zipper foot to make a seamless transition from our zipper stitches - making the zipper INVISIBLE to the eye (which IS the goal here).

Ah, a new video from Faren! So excited! I hate invisible zippers, I never can get them the way I like them. I am definitely going to try giving it a second pass with my zip foot after the invisible zip foot. It's such a simple solution, for something that causes me SO MUCH ANXIETY.
Also, the bloopers at the end, giving us a glimpse at the mistakes that EVERYONE makes, makes this whole thing perfectly imperfect. Sometimes, as beginner sewers, people get frustrated because they can't seem to get it right on the first go. Well, everyone makes mistakes!
Looking forward to the next video :)

You are so wonderful ToriAnn! You are so right... I rarely use to sew invisibles because I never had a fool-proof way of sewing them. But now I use invisibles almost on all my projects.
To prep for this video I must have done 4 samples (and 2 for the video) and each one turned out differently - hahaha (which is what you saw at the end). Basically I use the invisible zipper foot as a "basting" stitch and then I follow with the reg. zip foot as a "safety" stitch. It really clean ups the look of the seam. The important part is continuing the line of stitches down the body so as to NOT get the puckering that tends to happen.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support here on the channel! See you next week with more antics. ♥️

Good idea ,going back with the regular zipper foot. I’ve been going back to get closer to the teeth but with the invisible zipper. Thank you 🙏.

This is the best video I have seen on inVisable zipper installation by far… especially the tip on always sewing from top of garment to bottom. From fourty years of tailoring!

That’s awesome thanks! I bought a skirt with buttons that look nice but they gape a bit when I walk around so I thought i could just sew the whole thing shut but then how do I put it on… Genius invisible zipper time - I’ll try to unpick a side seam so there’s some seam allowance….
    Thanks!
Now I just need to figure out how to put in pockets - might have to let that go for this particular skirt though

I know, front button skirts are always a pain, stitching up the front and adding a side (or back) zip is a great solution! Pockets could be easy only if you don't have a side zip to contend with.... let me know how it goes! Thanks for being here 🤩

I use the zipper foot a lot, not just for zippers. I find I get a more accurate seam lines with the zipper foot, because I can see the needle better ( visually challenged). I was using the zipper foot before the regular foot, then when it came to sewing a zipper, my seamstress friend said I did an excellent job with my first zipper. Lol.
I love how you add the bloopers etc at the end. I wish all UA-camrs did that. That’s what makes you special. Edit, I’m sure you were always special, but you’re extra special.

That's amazing how practice with the zipper foot made you the excellent zipper installer on the first go!
Thank you @Racer Girl for the lovely compliment, there are a few reasons for the extra bloopers at the end... and the main reason, is to show that sewing should be fun! The other reason is strategic... if you know there is always going to be funny bloopers at the end - most people will watch until the end? Anyways, these are all just ways to illustrate to my audience that authenticity matters. Thank you for all the love the support!! ♥️

Loved this thank you so much. Am researching and educating myself before a practice attempt on a small zip then my first real one in a burda blouse I am making. Literally learning proper techniques every step, redefining slow fashion.

Please can you tell me how to NOT make a pucker at the bottom of the invisible zipper where it meets the garment’s seam. Over the years my pucker is smaller but I cant get rid of it completely. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to stop being scared of zippers. I've tried 3 test ones in the past few days with not a lot of success. When Im'm done stitching in both sides, the zipper becomes really stuck and has a hard time being zipped up. I'm using an invisible zipper foot. With the 3rd one I just did, I tried zipping it after ONLY sewing it in on the left side of the opening. Totally smooth! So that seam went well. But then when I went and sewed the right side, it once again has a hard time zipping closed. It also feels like, when I go to stitch the right side, the zipper teeth don't want to go as smoothly through the zipper foot's channel. It feels like they want to curl up even though the left side didn't? Do you have any tips? Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
