I think it’s important to remember that on the glove, your nails are not anchored to your body like regular nails are. It’s on a glove that slides some degree. Regular nails you can apply pressure and there’s a “stopping point” where the nail won’t bend any further, and that’s usually the place where you have to do things like opening a soda. Doing this on gloves is going to be significantly harder than regular nails; even with a regular number of layers.
Can confirm this. Currently opening cans of soda is my arch enemy with my acrylics. Also will say though there is a “stoping point” with a certain amount of leverage you can fully go past that and it’s not pretty.
Honestly it’s so cool he’s gonna try nail polish in the future. I think that’s honestly the best part about these theories, Mat gets to try new things and take us on the journey.
The experiment isn't finished though! If you're saying that the difficulty is mostly from the length of the nails and not their thiccness, the only logical conclusion is that MatPat should try wearing professionally applied long acrylic nails to compare. 💅💅 Gotta keep it scientific, it's definitely not just an excuse to keep him in mote videos!!
And / Or hav a video with someone who's used to longer nails wear the gloves, at the end of the day they apparently painted two pairs instead of two hands each
As someone who naturally has long nails this video was hilarious to me! I personally use the swipe feature on my phone keyboard in order to text and type. Which is WAY easier to do with nails lolol And thank you Steph! Long nails are hard to live with, but still fun lololol
Thank you, MatPat, for all you've done throughout the years across all your channels. I'll admit, Style Theory definitely seemed weird and kind of out of nowhere when you announced it, but I've been very surprised by how interesting and fun this channel has been. These channels won't be the same without you, and we will all miss you. Thank you.
The episode itself solidified my reasons for not wanting long nails, but outside of that the trophy he got couldn't be more true. We'll miss you MatPat, the best math, science, home ec, economics, fashion, and history teacher I ever had😁💚💚
To be fair, the fake nail shape they started with was a stiletto. A coffin or square shape would've definitely helped with his "wiping problem". Though, changing his technique to be more flat-handed would've helped too. Trust me, as long as you're not jumping from one extreme to another and instead working your way up, you'll be fine. You'll adapt, just like MatPat!
That UA-cam's #1 Boy trophy really hits different now that Matpat is retiring. It ain't just a birthday present, it's true, but he'll also be our #1 Boy. We'll miss you so much Mat!!
I think one thing that was done wrong in the video was the length of the fake nails they used. They were simply too long for MatPat. Having long nails changes the way you do things. Given the length of my nails, when I use my phone I generally use the pads of my fingers instead of the tips. As is they really testing his ability to live with long nails not 200 layers of polish.
I never really thought much about what i wear till the creation of style theory. this channel helped me open a new creative branch in my mind towards what i wear, its practicality, how fun it can be to try different things, (and now what 1,000 layers of nail polish looks like i guess!) I'm really glad that the quadfecta's been filled with style theory as the final piece, its finally rounded out. the four corners are filled now MatPat, i can't wait to see what the next generation of hosts do with it!
Of all the theory channels, it's such a shame that Style Theory is gonna have the least amount of MatPat videos. Especially since it isn't even a year old yet 😭 😭😭 I wish you could've had a bit more on here, but I'm glad you'll be able to do what you want from now on. Well miss you MatPat
2:35 I predict Rachel to be the winner, but it would be awesome to see Josiah slay the nail polish painting too! Either way, I’m excited for this episode!
as a long nail girly, i will say that it's easier when it's your own nails, you have a thick coating (like gel or acrylic) and have gradually grown them out.
Can we all agree that MatPat wearing these nails with his very fluffy jacket is a life that everyone should live once(of course paint your nails normally and not this crazy, or wear fake ones)
They should have removed all the nails from the latex at the end and stuck them on top of each other to officially reach 1000 layers and claim that honor once and for all
I was never a long nails person until I got bored in the pandemic and started doing them myself. I got so used to them that I’ve kept them going for 3.5 years now! (I have a nail tech I go to regularly now but still). Here I things I have done that did not cause me to break a nail: 1. Take apart, clean, put back together, load, and fire a gun 2. A construction project taking down and rebuilding a wall. Twice. 3. Create several clay sculptures Here are things I HAVE broken my nails while doing: 1. Making the bed. (I’ve broken so many nails this way) 2. Opening my car door. 3. Packing a suitcase. Idk 🤷🏻♀️😂
Gotta love that they called our Skip's adoration of the nails, my cats get very excited on the rare occasions I wear fake nails, they give the best scritches.
@@PsilomuscimolA scritch is just a little more gentle, but the actual difference is the length of the scratch. If you're moving your fingertip only very slightly that's a scritch.
My nails are naturally long, I’ve had them that way since I was in middle school and you adapt pretty fast. At this point I can do farm work, play piano, and do my maintenance based job without having to think twice about my nails. (I also get asked to scratch people’s backs a lot😭)
Oh yeah when your nails are naturally long you just adapt. I’ve put together various IKEA furniture, taken apart/put back together electronics as well last year I created a pair shorts for a little mermaid Disneybound. Dyed them green then spent a few hours sewing on sequins to the back pockets & front to give him a shiny scale look all with long nails. I’d honestly be really interested in a theory where Amy explores how natural long nails change your behaviour.
Watching MatPat struggle with long nails while I sit here with ~1cm (~3/8 inch) naturally protruding nails is fun. You really adjust the way you handle things SO much, to the point when my nail does break off I need to readjust and almost recalibrate my fingers lol. Another side effect of long nails are super soft and squishy finger tips, almost like cat toe beans.
I had nails that were at least an inch long for at least a year until last month. Ironically it was weirder getting used to short nails again because it was such a sudden change whereas growing them out was gradual. I was almost constantly breaking the nails on my dominant index finger and often broke the dominant thumb and middle finger's nails as well. It never hurt tho, sometimes I'd just look down and a nail would be gone or almost gone
I died at the film crew just lurking outside the bathroom door ToT and as a person who wears nail polish regularly (and loved the callback to SimplyNailogical) I find the fumes of nail polish bit very relatable, what a happy birthday for MatPat
I did actually cry at the end of the goodbye video a lot. I grew up watching Matt Patt and a lot of what he said really touched me and it was hard to watch but it felt cathartic in a way
ive never been so happy to see skip! from the way he talked about skip in the "goodbye internet" video, i was afraid skip was no longer there. great to see him well!
While it's sad to see him go, I'm glad he spent his birthday in such ridiculousness to make us laugh 🤣🤣 All hail MatPat! The fashionable, diet coke addicted, losing sanity over animatronics, theorst!!!
A coarse and then medium nail file helps a lot to get the worst removed if you have thick paint on (5-6 layers). The rest you can remove by just adding a slow drying clear coat, wait for 10-20 seconds and then scrape/wipe it all off.
It depends on whether or not a base coat was used, the type and how long you let the polish dry between each coats. If you use a peel off base coat, the shell of the polish can pop off easy, whereas if you are using a long lasting base, it can last longer. It also depends on nail care such as oiling the nails, dehydrating the nail plate, if the polish touches the cuticle, it will peel off
I don't get my nails painted, but I do usually keep them long, and I can agree that some stuff is harder but also you tend to get used to it. My go-to sign for when to cut them is when they start to interfere with typing.
I bartend with stilettos, and I can attest that they do actually serve a function. Proper application protects my nails, my natural nails soften and become brittle constantly being in water. Things slipping don't result in a broken bloody nail. I couldn't work without them!
I work at sonic and though I'm not used to longer nails, I wear short/medium almonds and the hard nail works better for using our touch screen system and opening things has never been easier. The only downside is that it's kinda hard to put on my skates but the pros out weigh the cons lol
I opened the video and involuntarily smiled so hard when I heard his voice. It's so comforting and I'll miss that, but the choice he chose is clearly what's best for Matpat's and his family's well being.
One thing i will always love about Matt is that he's willing to do these kinds of things in public. I'll miss himq and hope Amy will be able to do the same.

My nails are naturally long, they’re neat, but yeah, it does make things a bit more difficult, however I am to the point where it gets harder for me to do stuff when my nails break since I’m just not used to it
I think that was part of the struggle. When my nails naturally grow out, I find I can do things easier, but if I get fake ones done, I feel like Mat did. Like my hands just dont work quite as well
Yeah it honestly feels weird when things touch my skin right where the nails grow past, it’s such a “touching weird thing in the dark” reaction to me so I don’t really use my hands normally even when my nails are ‘normal length’. Besides, I drum my nails on any available surface to stim and it’s incredibly frustrating if they don’t make the noise, like what’s the point? So I always keep them long
I haven’t worn acrylics in a while but using my phone has definitely changed. I can use my finger tips but I use the side a lot more bc I’m used to it even if it’s been like 1-2 years. SIDE OF THE FINGER GANG WHOOP WHOOP 🙌🏽
