The problem with this wish is that it presumes Aladdin knows that Jasmine loves him and wants to marry him upon making the wish. He does not. He in fact thinks she doesn't even remember him, and believes his smitten feelings for Jasmine are completely unrequited. He wishes to be a prince not just because 'only princes can marry Jasmine' but because 'only a prince would even have a chance with her'. The reason he hides his identity from Jasmine is because he's convinced she has no interest in a street rat and would only be interested in a prince. If he knew Jasmine had the hots from him from the outset 90% of the movie would be missing because he'd just tell her who he was immediately and then Jasmine would conspire *with* him to get married, rather than fight against him about it until she realizes who he really is.
I agree completely. I think Aladdin felt very insecure around Jasmine at first. And he obviously had no real idea how a Prince was expected to behave. It was love at first sight with his Jasmine but he thought he had no chance with her and her father would never approve of her marrying a so called street rat. And Aladdin had that many run ins with Razoul and his fellow palace guards they would soon have told Sultan what Aladdin was really like. So he felt his only option was to become a Prince and even then it wasn't guaranteed he would win Jasmine's wee heart. That famous quote from Jasmine at the palace "I am not a prize to be won" her best quote from the movie. There, Aladdin was outlandish and somewhat arrogant. Sultan may have fallen for his charm, but it didn't convince Jasmine. And then of course Jafar was never going to like "Prince Abooboo" And I think Jafar realized that there was something just not quite right about him. It nearly cost Aladdin his life when he almost drowned on Jafar's orders with the wee ambush and Aladdin would never have been found. Aladdin was playing a dangerous game and personally I don't think he realised how challenging it would be

Technically, he DID marry her in one wish. The first was to be a prince, which led to him reuniting with Jasmine. His second "wish" was to be saved from drowning and the third was to free Genie.
Don't get me wrong Aladdin is my favourite Disney movie ever but I never understood the second "wish" Aladdin was passed out and gagged, he couldn't make a wish. Genie even said "I can't help you unless you make a wish" Genie deciphered a "nod" as a yes from Aladdin. But that could have been caused by the underwater current or muscle reflexes or even the after effects of being violently shaken by the Genie. I don't think Genie had any right to intervene. Either help Aladdin as a favour or don't intervene at all. But it was never a wish

If I was Aladdin, don't get me wrong I would be very grateful for the wee rescue too .But I don't know what way to say it, I wouldn't be happy with losing a wish From Genie's perspective he obviously knew Aladdin wanted rescued. To be completely honest I have always believed Genie shouldn't have intervened here. He didn't have the authority by his "Master" to do anything. "I can't help you unless you make a wish" "I need you to say Genie I wish you to save my life" Not easy with a wee gag on, let alone passed out already. I know my opinion is pretty harsh, but I hope you understand my point

One issue I have always had with the Genies rules for his wishes is that he states he can't bring people back from the dead but he then goes on to state that he doesn't like doing it, so don't make him do it, so that means he can just he doesn't want to do it
that also implies to an extent that he can also make people fall in love with eachother but again dosen't like doing it, so in theory Aladdin would just have to somehow convince genie to make one exception for him because the genie could see the good in him , but i could just be connecting things that were never meant to be connected

Well, it's a point that people often forget; he says that those rules are just his personal rules, not that they aren't possible for him to do.
Which also means that he won't grant wishes like "I wish that I could wish for Jasmine to love me" or "I wish for more genies" or something that might surpass his rules, because he isn't forced too grant every wish if I'm remembering correctly.
However, one thing that could work is asking to marry Jasmine and specifying that the wish doesn't have to make the two fall in love, that it only gets them married.
Even then, it is possible that the genie will not grant that wish because he realizes how on the edge of breaking the rules (which would be his rules) that is.

A problem to wishing Jasmine be Sultan. Unless Aladdin is very specific about the details, her ascension could result in her father dying to make it happen. The Sultan is incompetent, so that might be a good thing, but Jasmine might not be keen on her father dying.

The issue here is that Aladdin didn’t believe he had a chance with Jasmine as himself. So making her sultan would have been more effective, but he never would’ve wished it because all he wanted was a way to « impress » her…

Fun fact: Aladdin is set in a post apocalyptic world, but they tried to portray an ancient time-line, so when they flew over Greece and Aladdin threw an apple to Jasmin, he proposed to her by doing so because that's what they did in Ancient Greece.
That's just a theory. The only evidence supporting it is the Genies references to modern people, and there's a confirmed reason why. Apparently, Genie can see into the past and future, but he cannot see his own personal future.

I have actually pondered how to break the wishing system in Aladdin many times lol. Once I have a lamp I use my first wish for 100 random people around the world to become genies. I use my second wish to bring all the magic lamps in the world to me. Then my third wish would be that no one else can use genie lamps but me. So I will end up with 300 more wishes and will be as powerful as a genie with none of the downsides. I could eventually wish for additional powers and other augmentations on my body to become stronger.
It's sad how you have just stolen the autonomy of 300 people and turned them all into your slaves. Can't you see how messed up that is?

So Aladdin’s wishes should’ve been:
1. Make Jasmine the new Sultan
2. Whatever else Aladdin wanted
3. Free the genie
The entire movie is his first wish coming true. When he ends up with Jasmine he becomes a prince. This is why Genie is allowed to keep using magic to help him without making new wishes, because all of the magic is in service to granting that wish.
I'm not sure how canon that is, but it's an interesting theory

Loved this theory! But I disagree with MatPat's reasoning of why asking to be a foreign prince wouldn't work. Yes, a lot of the time they did arrange marriages to be tactical but Jasmine's father wasn't like that. He clearly loves her and wants her to be happy and have love so I honestly think that as long as Alladin was a prince and therefore an eligible partner for Jasmine, her father would let her choose to marry him.
True, but Jasmine was incredibly picky and refused to marry them. Plus, she didn't recognize Aladdin by his face, so she wouldn't have married him
What if Aladdin wished for the Genie wish rules not to exist? Then, he would have unlimited wishes, have Jasmine fall in love with him, and anything and everything else.
Also, if that's not aloud, just wish for the genie of o be COMPLETELY loyal to him after he is released. Then everyone is happy!
To truly be free the person or genie needs autonomy. To release him from slavery, Aladdin has to set him free and not expect complete loyalty. He has to earn Genie's loyalty by being a good friend to Genie. Otherwise he does not deserve loyalty under slavery or oppression.

There’s one theory that when Aladdin made his wish to be a prince that was the exact moment his dad became the leader of the 40 thieves that appear in the sequels. Or, as it’s put, the KING of thieves. As the son of a ‘king’, that would technically make Aladdin a prince.

that's not how that works outside britain. generally, a prince is the monarch of a principality.
Those other 2 wishes could've been used for big emergencies, like say the city ran out of food / water - poof! Suddenly you've got some farmland within a magical climate bubble (keeping it suitable for farming, unlike the desert) that harvests itself and grows food as fast as a timelapse video, or a fountain with a large base that refills whatever water you take from it, and it always stays perfectly clean.

After watching Aladdin again, I thought of something: In "A whole new world" Aladdin and Jasmine travel from Agrabah to the pyramids to Greece(?) to something chinese in just one night. Just how fast can the Magic Carpet fly to make this possible and could Aladdin and Jasmine survive this flight?

I love this idea, really ! The fact the best way to gain her love it’s to let her rule is fantastic. Well the only problem is Aladin don’t seems to think than Jasmin love him, I don’t know of it is more explicit in the french version (because I’m french) but when the Genie ask at Aladin to free him like promise Aladin refuse, because he think than without the genie is not a prince and will not DESERVE Jasmin. Even when she discover his real identity he prefer lie and say he is a prince who disguise some times in Beggar. But will be a proof of his great kindness of souls, sacrificing what he desires to free the one who loves him from her destiny and offer Agraba a better future.

In some cases of movies id agree with you, but aladdin the animated movie wasn’t that racist to me and personally I liked it much better. Additionally i liked the way the original tackled feminism and actual problems in certain countries, this one seemed pandering and had confusing messages.
If the original Aladdin was racist, then the term racist has truly lost all meaning.
He can just wish for her to not be a princess anymore and then use the other wish to set himself up for life and free the genie
I don't imagine that Jasmine would have been too happy if she ever found out that a wish Aladdin made led to her dad's death. I mean that's basically what wishing for Jasmine to become sultan amounts to.

The problem is he doesn’t think Jasmine likes him because he’s a street rat, that’s one of the reasons why he wishes to be a prince. So wishing for Jasmine to be sultan, according to his thoughts, isn’t going to help him.

Technically this should work. Jafar became a genie, but forgot the magical cuffs that bind a genie to a lamp and keeps them prisoner. When the owner of the lamp sets a genie free, they're not performing the act themselves but rather give permission for the genie to set himself free. By that logic genie should be able to grant Aladdin the wish to be a free genie.

If a wish has limitations, it stands to reason that the product of that wish will have similar limitations. So no objects that grant more wishes, or that grant love, or that bring back the dead.

since there are rules in place for what the genie can and can't do, I doubt he could make that book exist. The book would still be dependent on his own power since it was his power that created it. It would have to be created with those limitation in mind. So either he can't make the book or he can but the book is still subject to the limitations the genie has.
Aladdin should have said "I wish for a pen and paper and whatever I write in the paper come true" for the first thing he should have writing that he could have infinite wishes (because its not a genie) and then he could have wished for Jasmine to become Sultan (like u said) and then he would have had infinite wishes 😊

The problem is that the Genie isn’t exactly a genius. Though he can see into the future (probably? It’s a little ambiguous), he’s shown multiple times to be outwitted by Aladdin himself. He’s unlikely to come up with a better plan than our Boi.
Plus, he’s *on* Aladdin’s side. If Al gets what he wants, Genie goes free. It’s already in his best interest to make sure Al gets the girl. Thus, making him a prince is likely the best the Genie can come up with as well.
