I reckon we saw these guys at least 4/5 times in Sydney between 1983-87… Each gig was a riot. Literally. I’ve never seen a band who were consistently more pissed than their audience, but they nailed it every show. (I think 😂) It was a hot mess of tangled bodies & driving rhythms with that 12 bar blues road map that connected band and crowd so we all knew we’d get to the same place again safely. Life affirming experience which I’ll never be able to forget. Soul inspiring bone marrow crunching bliss! I turn 60 this year, thank you Lee (& all the lads) for being Doctor Feelgood. Rest in peace Lee 🙏
Absolutely! I saw the original lineup in the UK at the Newcastle City Hall when making their massive breakthrough with the Malpractice album. Their hit the stage at 100 miles per hour & never stopped for 2 + hours & 3 encores later. Utterly breathtaking.
I can swap stories. I saw this band in Middlesbrough, UK in the late 70's. Around the same time and Australian band called Rose Tattoo played in my hometown. Angry Anderson came in stage holding a bottle of Vodka and as the night wore on, he got more pissed. Fantastic night and a very loud band

Pub rock, really that's how u describing an amazing live band. They were at there absolute best playing small venues of maybe up to 4-5000. The same as a lot of the bands that made it. If u weren't good in a pub then very free made it unless they already knew some1 in the business. A few or in fact a lot of bands especially today can't play live at all
@@woody816 I saw a lot of great pub bands back in the day but never got round to seeing Dr Feelgood, even though a class mate and myself would go and sit round his house during lunch break as young teenagers in the late 70s, and amongst the Lizzy, Quo, and ACDC we'd be listening to, he'd play the odd Dr Feelgood track. I got into them more later though, when learning guitar. I've seen many, now older, rock stars playing pubs around Birmingham and the Midlands, and I'm sure that in the old school touring tradition, Dr Feelgood would have played a few pubs back then. They'd have been great in a bouncin smokey back room with beer spilling everywhere, Lee Brilleaux in his filthy lived in suit like he's been sleeping in the back of a transit van, and those great songs delivered in his and Wilko's slightly unhinged and dangerous manner. That's what I think I mean really with the world's best pub band statement. They're not only brilliant original songsmiths, but of a time and place I can't imagine us ever getting to see again. Might be just as well though, as although I get a lot of nostalgia for the 70s, there was a lot that was grim, and most of us were trying to better our circumstances as a result. If it hadn't been so, maybe some things, as glorious as they were, wouldn't have come to be. There's clearly a lot of that urgency and anger comes across in Lee's delivery and lyrics, and his appearance. I'm sure their audience would have been feeling it too, especially back then
I felt like a fool when I finally 'discovered ' this band and I was already 76 years old...wut? now I'm collecting their recorded output and love every one of their band members... odd how music and art are limited in availability...youtube is breaking down many walls.
There's a lovely bit of video on here of John playing guitar through an Electro Harmonix 'Pog', which makes it sound like a church organ (if you search for Gypie Mayo Pog you'll find it). The look of joy on his face at the sound is a lovely thing to behold.

@@markfahey3921 I always thought Gypie was a great blues guitarist. He was respected in the industry too. As far as hits are concerned, the Feelgoods had their purple patch when Gypie was in the band.
Awesome sound. That “eight bars of piano” gets me every time.. could listen to just that for the full three minutes! A great example of how super-tight simplicity trumps “pretty tight” complexity every time.

I was a huge fan of Dr Feelgood back in my youth in the 1970s. I loved all their music, but this was definitely a favourite! Still love it all these years later! Such a shame about Lee Brilleaux - he was a great frontman for the band! 😀

Every time they toured Australia we'd see them as many times as we could. Travelling from Brisbane to the Gold or Sunshine Coast to catch one of the greatest live bands EVER. Never saw Lee and the boys play anything but a great gig. If you want to know how good then grab a copy of 'As It Happens' Dr Feelgood live album. Please don't push.
I am privileged to have seen them perform in Australia way back in 1980. I was very close to the front and I tell you Australian bands at the time were playing this style but Dr Feelgood were like Gods. Thank you Doctor Feelgood for my memories.
I went to a concert with Doctor Feelgood arranged by the Students Union at the Plymouth College of Art and Design in 1978. I still have muscle cramps ;-)

1975 was a desert for the real rock'n'roll ( with boring Genesis , Pink floyd...) . Thanks to Dr Feelgood ( and also Eddie and the hot rods ) to put some coal in the machinery !

Great live band. Powerhouse performances every time. I have the late, great Liverpudlian BBC DJ John Peel to thank for introducing their Talents to me back in the 1970s. Thanks to UA-cam these super talents and live performances of the "SarfEnd Sahnd" from the depths of Essex lives on. Have Dr. Feelgood CDs in my cars and numbers like these are great to drive to. Stone's LP version of Route 66 in my cars ( tapes ) too but the live stage with Lee doing the vocals is great. His Harmonica playing is to my mind the most vigorously effective by anyone. Every live version of "Down at the Doctors" is unique and all just as good. Never tire of this stuff.

Had their CDs in my cars for over thirty years. Such intensity. Very powerful. Me an Essex boy too. One of life's "Regrets, I've had a few". Warning when this track plays watch your car's display carefully. Speed WILL more than creep up! Beware .. cameras about.
These guys passed me by when I was young, only found them through the Wilco and Roger Daltey recordings, they took me to the originals, the new stuff is good but not a patch on these! so much drive and power! Just great.
Saw the Feelgoods in 1978 at the Majestic, Reading. Got there early to get tickets, treat for the whole family, including my mum. Bought the tickets, Nipped into the Duke of Edinburgh public bar close by to wait for the family to arrive. Lee Brillaux was sitting at a table alone doing a crossword. I was so dumbstruck. Didn't want to disturb him so I didn't. Great, gig....Just wish I'd given Lee a hug when the opportunity arose for me before he died.
Back in November '89 my old band, The Guv'nors, were booked to open for Dr. Feelgood at St. George's Hall, Exeter. These were my heroes and sharing a stage with them was amazing. Got to meet Lee briefly after the gig. That it was my birthday a week later made it all the more special. R.I.P. Lee, Gypie and Wilko.

So my dad brought me up on dr.feelgood, nine below zero, rolling stones etc, and no matter what mood im in where i am, dr feelgood is my go to band. Bought myself a proper Telecaster last year and have tried my damndest to copy Wilko and play the songs the way they're meant, but it just cant be replicated. Totally underappreciated band. With pretty much every album having great songs on them. Ps fully aware this is gypie playing guitar here 😂.
My favourite band of all time is Motorhead. These guys are a very close second because they played the same way. Live, loud and loved what they did. Pure class. Amazing band.
I saw them live in The Appollo in Glasgow in the 70's, they were the support act for Hawkwind, loved them then, love them still. PS They blew Hawkwind out of the water

I've owned this album for 44 years, it's still the best album ever and still gives me the same buzz as it did when I was a scooter riding mod.
One of them bands you have to watch as well as listen, to fully appreciate how good they are.

First saw them on telly prog The Geordie Scene. Thereafter 13 times in concert. Sheer knockout.

I was because they couldn't find a piano player with the right groove and feel for the song and Lee left the line in there

I heard that producer Richard Gottehrer had a go at playing it but his style wasn't really R&R (too classical) so they ditched it.
Still going strong! I saw you a couple of times when visiting London in the early and mid-80's, from Sweden. Still one of the best bands, ever!

I had a chance to see them about forty odd years ago and missed my chance. A long story and a long time of kicking my own arse on missing out of the chance! They are a complete banging band!!!

So my dad brought me up on dr.feelgood, nine below zero, rolling stones etc, and no matter what mood im in where i am, dr feelgood is my go to band.
Bought myself a proper Telecaster last year and have tried my damndest to copy Wilko and play the songs the way they're meant, but it just cant be replicated.
Totally underappreciated band. With pretty much every album having great songs on them.

I saw them at Leicester Square when I was about 17. They were excellent. Some years later, I saw Wilko Johnson at Dingwall's. Happy days!
My favourite band of all time is Motorhead. These guys are a very close second because they played the same way. Live, loud and loved what they did. Pure class. Amazing band.

I saw them live in The Appollo in Glasgow in the 70's, they were the support act for Hawkwind, loved them then, love them still. PS They blew Hawkwind out of the water
