Hi Elyssa, my daughter & I returned from 5 weeks in Italy including a week in Rome. I can’t thank you enough for all the information you have provided. We took the after hours tour of the Vatican & it was amazing. We were the last group out and were essentially in the Raphael rooms & the Sistine chapel by ourselves. The evening Colosseum visit was just magical. Thank you for putting up your amazing videos (we watched the Florence ones too).
Elyssa, We just returned from our 16-day trip to Rome and Sorrento and wanted to thank you so much for all your helpful videos which made the trip easier and much more enjoyable. From the tips about which tours to book for the Coliseum and Palatine Hill to the recommendations for visiting St. Peters, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum without waiting in line, to your suggestions for hidden chapels and well-shaded parks, your contributions to the success of our trip were numerous. We even packed a picnic for our Sunday visit to the Appia Antica and tours of both the St. Sebastiano and Domitilla catacombs. Please accept the boundless thanks of two more travelers who greatly benefitted from your sage advice and please keep those videos coming!

Hi Elyssa, every time we've been in Rome , we would often get off the beaten path and escape into a little church and get recharged. The peace and tranquility was amazing. And the parks were great places for a picnic. Thank you so much for all your great advice.
Hi Elyssa, more great tips once again. We have been to Rome a number of times seeing all the popular spots and anytime is a busy time. Next time we are back we are going to follow your advice once more and visit the "less busy" museums and a lot more of Rome's beautiful churches. Great video once again, thank you both so much.

All being well be will be back in Rome mid January 2025 (airfares are not cheap from our part of the planet). Excited already. Loving your videos. Giving us good ideas for visiting new places.
That is a great way to look at it! You are so right - many times, I hear people complain about the crowds in high season, and I think, yes, but you are also part of the crowd. I think the best way not to stress about it is to accept it and think about something else. Thanks so much for the kind words about my videos! I'm glad you enjoy them!

And yes, the Dying Gaul is just amazing! As for accommodation, yes, prices come down when there is less demand. Thanks again!
Excellent tips, grazie! During our 2015 visit we really enjoyed the Galleria Doria Pamphilj, Palazzo Massimo, first-in-to-the Cappella Sistina tour, Vatican Museums night entry. Also, waking up early on a Sunday and walking around was like we had the city to ourselves. That strategy worked in Firenze, also. Our favorite park was Parco degli Acquedotti. I think we may have seen one or two other people the whole time we were there. As we age and as the world turns it seems less likely we will ever be able to get back to Italia/Europe. So, I hope you keep making these wonderful videos.

Hi Just think you have a great “product” and love your website, UA-cam posts and your invaluable advice and the selfless manner in which you present the same…thank uou! …just wonderful! We’re subscribed and spreading awareness of your great posts. My partner and I are looking to travel to Rome in May next year (2025) to visit all of the beautiful sites the city has to offer…but also to see the BNL International tennis tournament. We come from SA and the exchange rate is so disadvantageous that for us (and I’m sure many others from developing countries) it’s quite expensive to make the trip to Italy. We’ve done our research and decided we’d go on quarterfinals day (15th May) for the day session on Campo Centrale (main court). We’d even researched the best seating options, and chose the Italian Open Club seating. We entered all the relevant info, making sure to be accurate…and the official ticketing site just wouldn’t work. We left a message and were informed that we should try again in the morning…still no joy! Since this was one of the primary reasons for visiting Rome I have to say that we’re very disappointed…and not sure what to do now!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy my videos and I am very grateful to you for subscribing to my channel and for sharing my content! I think it may be too early to book for next May. But if it's not, then I suggest you continue to try. It seems unlikely they would be sold out this soon. Good luck!
Hi, thanks a lot for the video and the info. I have a question, please; Is there any website to buy a ticket to visit the Colosseum in Rome, I don't need a guide or with a group? ... Just myself. Thanks a lot in advance and have a good day.
I used to be a regular visitor to Rome-last time 2016 but I’ll be back again in October this year. I’ve been there at different times of the year but my experience is that summer is WAY too hot. I like April or end October.
Yes, summer can be overly hot and uncomfortable. For many people, it's the only time they can come. If you can visit in April or October, you'll find the nicest weather - however, these are also the busiest times of year to visit, thanks to the nice weather.
Great tips. I do have a question about daytrip from Rome to Castellucio. l've seen it on UA-cam and it looks spectacular but it's not as popular as Orvieto and Assisi. So I'm wondering if taking a daytrip to Castellucio is worth it or should stick to somewhere closer
Thank you so much! Yes, Castelluccio is beautiful, especially if you go when all the flowers are blooming. You have to hit it just right. We went one year when they were supposed to be blooming but we were about a week too early (it was in late May.) But for me, it is a VERY long day trip from Rome. Like Venice, it's certainly doable, but in my opinion, it would be a long day without a huge payoff. I think Castelluccio is more about going and enjoying the place and the scenery, for which I think you need maybe one overnight stay. You might want to check out my playlist about day trips from Rome. Maybe consider the Gardens of Ninfa or Farfa Abbey: ua-cam.com/play/PLEAd_Z-Tx6V3xlPs1CVtI2Xvar0owBicS.html

My husband and I are taking a guided tour of the Amalfi coast soon. The tour will end with a few days in Rome. We're fortunate to have visited once before, so, rather than revisit St. Peter's, we're going to return to the Galleria Borghese. The Bernini sculptures there are magnificent. I come to Italy from Australia every year in December and January. I love it because I’m away from Sydney summer which is too humid for me. What is the park you a in for this video? It look lovely.
I'm not sure what you are referring to by early tour. If you mean a tour going at opening hours, then it does not necessarily include the underground unless you book that. Visiting the underground requires what is called a Full Experience ticket. We visited in Aug & yes it was very busy & very hot too. No public toilets or toilet seats anywhere so drinking has to be limited. No menus in English anywhere. I'd go back but not to tourist sites. Vatican museum was like herding sheep. Much enjoyed us driving back from Pompei on the coastal roads.
Do you have a translation app on your phone? If so then you don’t need menus in English, that just screams tourist rip off restaurant to me. Couldn’t do without my Google translate in all countries, works a treat.
In my experience, regardless of where you are, restaurants that have English menus generally cater to tourists. Many times, this means that they are more.expensive and/or the food is not authentic (which can mean blander.,. Less flavorful). We've had good luck with both Google. Translate and with asking the waiter and even other customers if.they can help
@@1DebOsborn Yes I think it's relative. I also find that prices for eating out in Rome tend to be lower than in US restaurants for similar types of meals.
Love your videos! The parrots squeaking in the background was sweet. I agree, I get into my “zen bubble” too. I realize I’m apart of this throng of tourists and make the most of it. I find less crowded streets to navigate and avoid busy times of day with popular sites.
@@lisekapp268 Thank you so much! Yes, that's part of enjoying Rome - especially when it's crowded! Look for quiet streets, and when you have to be in a crowd, just get in your zen bubble!

This is the official site to buy Borghese tickets: www.tosc.it/en/artist/galleria-borghese/
Yes, from the top of Via Veneto you can walk through the Aurelian Walls to the Villa Borghese park - delightful and safe @@liliherndz5792
Thanks, Elyssa--love your videos! You say to bring a water bottle, but will it be allowed in the sites such as the Vatican museums, St. Peter's etc.?
Thanks
Definitely. They even have fountains that you can refill your drink bottle
Yes, you can bring your own water bottle in. What you can't bring in are bottles you can't see through like thermoses.
I come to Italy from Australia every year in December and January. I love it because I’m away from Sydney summer which is too humid for me. What is the park you a in for this video? It look lovely.
Yes, that's an excellent strategy to come in winter (our winter!) The park I film in quite often is the Villa Celimontana.
@@RomewiseI have added the park to my Google maps saved places in Rome to remind me to visit it next January. Thank you.
@@robyn_roamz Wonderful! I love the park in winter especially when the sun is shining. You will love it, too!
Great.
Any time you can get to Rome, it's the best time.
True!
The early tour in colosseum also with the underground?
I'm not sure what you are referring to by early tour. If you mean a tour going at opening hours, then it does not necessarily include the underground unless you book that. Visiting the underground requires what is called a Full Experience ticket.
You may want to watch my latest Colosseum video where I go over the different types of tickets available:

@@Romewise thanks 😊
Are you at Villa Celimontana's park?
Yep! I say so at 14:50 :)
Hi, any idea why the Borghese Gallery official site has been down for so long? :(( I really want to book ahead
I'm not sure what you mean. Is this the site you are trying to use:
www.gebart.it/musei/galleria-borghese/
Omg I was using another link that looked legitimate 😅 thanks so much for sharing the link!! ❤
Yes, many resellers do a great job of making their site look like the official site. They are legit but not the official site. Glad to help! @@TheReluctantCoder
By the way for the Free Sunday, you mentioned that we need to book ahead on the gallery website. I can't really find the place to book the free sunday. @@Romewise 😥
I can see the paid tickets but the first sunday of the month is not clickable.
How do I put more more than 1 thumbs up on a video ?
How do I put more than one heart on a comment! Thanks so much for your kind words!!!
Sorry to hear you did not have a good experience. Yes, it's been very crowded this summer.Glad you enjoyed your trip to Pompeii!
Honestly, just watching this video makes you not want to visit. Nothing but tons crowds and tourist price gouging
That was not my intention, but yes, the crowds lately have been putting people off. Which is why I made this video.
The prices are not as high as here in the USA. I’ve been there twice and was amazed at some prices being so good. Mostly in restaurants.
So many people in Rome while in Dubai always empty.
True
Go in February. Rome is empty.
Kind of...I was just at the Vatican Museums yesterday and by 11am, it was wall to wall people. But overall, yes, Rome is a bit quieter in February than it will get as spring arrives.
The Vatican Museums are always wall-to-wall. That's a given.
Yes, but to be honest I was actually surprised by how crowded they were on a Monday in February! @@robertthomson1587
please don't look away from the camera, it's distracting. you have a habit of looking up when you apply emphasis in your conversation. it's distracting.
Thanks so much for your very constructive comments. I hadn't realized that I do that until you mentioned it. It must be involuntary. I will work on improving this. Thanks for taking the time to provide useful tips that can help me improve.
I don’t see how you can be distracted from the most interesting facts and views ever. She’s the best video I’ve seen and the amount of history you learn is astounding.
