Yesterday, my wife and I had lunch with a lady who is going to Rome with her college age daughter (over spring break). I'll forward this to her-- very applicable! Thanks
Such a comprehensive itinerary for a short trip to Rome! Love how you've packed in all the must-see sites without feeling rushed. Thanks for the detailed breakdown and timestamps, makes planning my own visit so much easier! Can't wait to explore the Eternal City. Grazie mille! 🇮🇹✨
Excellent advice Elyssa. Almost exactly what I did, but in reverse! Lol. That's why Rome must be visited for a lengthy time or multiple times! There is so much to see and do and learn.
Absolutely! There is no one right way to see Rome. I live here and even when I see things over and over, it's like seeing them again for the first time every time. There is always something new to see! Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed my video!
Perfect video Elyssa, this if fantastic adive for anyone paying a visit to Rome for the first time. Everyone who has not been to Rome if you follow Elyssa'a suggestion here you will see the lot. I know as we follow her suggestions and advice all of the time and she has never disappointed.
Thank you so much! I know you've seen most things in this video, but I am glad you still enjoy watching them and I especially appreciate your recommending them to others!
I love your itinerary for a two day trip. We were there a month ago for three days and I was able to hit almost everything you have here. We decided to spend an evening doing a twilight food tour in Trastevere as we’ve been to Rome many times and skipped the major sites this time. The Borghese Gallery was a real highlight for me as was Piazza Del Popolo. We used your UA-cam video as we toured Largo Argentina. It was very helpful and informative. That was a fantastic site! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much! It's tough to see it "all" in 2-3 days but with some planning, you can definitely see a lot. I agree the Galleria Borghese is a must and I include it in my 3-day itinerary on my website. I'll be making that video soon. Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed my Largo Argentina video and used it while you visited!
Thank you so much for all your videos. I head to Rome tomorrow and this one in particular was amazingly helpful ! I love your attention to details. Among all the videos I watched , yours were definitely the best ones.
That's great! I'm so glad you find it helpful. Yes, I wanted to give the most relaxed itinerary possible, to allow for a fun stress-free visit. But of course I always give extra options because I know that some people like to pack in more things! I hope you and your family have a wonderful time in Rome! @MiriamLopez-qn8li
LOVE LOVE you youtube and webpage.. we are going on a girls trip in Aug. 4 days in Barcelona, then 8 days on cruise ship then 3 days in Rome.. I have planned my Rome trip according to your videos... also posted your videos to the FB page for my cruise for those staying in Rome for a few days after the cruise.. love all the history you give about the main sites and small sites..
Thank you so much for your kind compliments! I'm really happy to know you enjoy my content and find it helpful with your trip planning! I hope you and your friends have a fabulous trip this August!
I've been to Rome around 50 times, each time for a day. I have plenty of other trips coming up, each for 24 hours each again. I'm going to use your guide to break up several things to do an do them over my numerous trips. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Thank you so much! You might find these videos helpful: ua-cam.com/video/6aaBZibWnEU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/WqTQJjQj1dQ/v-deo.html Have a great trip!
This was EXACTLY what I needed for our trip in 3 weeks! Landing in Rome Sunday morning from the US, taking the train to Florence Wednesday. Your suggestions are perfect for our Monday and Tuesday. I’ve already booked the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill tour for one day, and the Vatican/St Peter’s Basilica morning tour for the other full day. Thank you so much for varied options in pacing, restaurants, and gelaterias!
I just returned 2 weeks ago. I did exactly what you're doing. Elyssa's videos are a great resource and example of what you can do in a short period of time. I promise, the biggest thing you'll learn is that you need to go back and stay twice as long next time! Enjoy.
Thanks so much for your comments! I'm glad you find this helpful with your trip planning. Please check our Florence videos, too! I'd love to hear how it all went - please feel free to come back and let me know in the comments. Have a wonderful time in Rome and Florence!
Your videos helped me plan our very recent trip to Rome. Didn't see everything we wanted, but we did see the essentials- Vatican City, the Vittorio Emmanuele monument, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain & a few other sights. Thanks so much, we loved Rome & hope to return to see some more of this wonderful city. ❤
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I'm really glad you found my videos helpful with your trip planning! Yes, you have to keep coming back - as the Romans say, "A lifetime is not enough"!
Thanks for your nice and helpful videos. I hope to visit Rome again in the near future. It’s also very interesting to see what changed in Rome since my last visit. Greetings from Germany 😊
I just got back from Rome. I live in Spain. Thank you for everything. You really helped me plan a perfect visit. One suggestion of topic for a video : Tiramisus. I planned my Tiramisù experience using Tik tok and it was a great adventure. I tried some homemade ones at the restaurants I ate.. I also went to 101 tiramisus and Pompi. It was a lot of fun and I'm sure you'll have fun making this video as well. My favorite one was a Nutella and pistachio Tiramisù I had at 101.. For the mixture of flavors. The second one was at Armando al Panteon, the texture was amazing! Thanks again!
Thanks so much for letting me know you enjoyed my videos and found them helpful with your trip planning! Thanks also for the suggestion about a video about tiramisù! I'll add it to my list and see what I can do.
Been watching your videos since we booked our trip for the Christmas holidays. Thanks so much for all your great tips and information! This is our second trip to Rome but this time we have more time to really look around.
Great advice, how much are the Pantheon tix? Having been to Rome several time, Elyssa does give the best advice-from the ultimate Turbo Tourist! Always worth popping your head in a church for the art!
Thanks as always! I don't love being a turbo tourist, but I know many people are. As long as you've got the energy for it, that's great! The Pantheon costs 5€ for a normal adult. There are reductions for kids and other categories. And then as I mentioned, there is a 1.50€ fee for using PayPal. But I think it's a small price to pay!
This is so perfect! Thank you for sharing. We have a trip planned to Italy in May and We're arriving in Rome on a Sunday. Monday. We already have Vatican City and museum's booked and Tuesday we already have Colosseum and Palatine Hill in Roman forum booked. Thank you so much. This will help us to do things afterwards
Thank you so much for that Pantheon hint. I've walked past it several times this week and did not want to wait in that line. I will give this a try tomorrow for sure! 🙂
I’m visiting Rome for the 1st time in October, I’ll be there for 2 days before I leave for a transatlantic cruise, I’m seriously considering staying for a week, but this video has me rethinking the week long stay, it appears I can see a lot for my first visit, good thing I have a few months to decide, thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks for watching my video - I'm glad you found it helpful. I must answer your comments to say that if you HAVE a week, I would strongly urge you to consider taking that time in Rome. I made this video for people who are short on time and want to see a lot in a short amount of time. But Rome is an amazing city with SO MUCH to see. The Romans say, and I agree, "A lifetime is not enough." I live here and I am STILL discovering new things after 20 years. I don't yet have a video about spending a week in Rome, but I do have a page about it. I hope you find this helpful: www.romewise.com/7-days-in-rome-italy.html

Thank you so much! We are planning a 1st time visit, but only have 3 days and want to go to Pompeii as well.
Thanks for this! I’m loving this channel. We are headed to Rome soon. Will be there for three full days. Have you ever been to Monte Cassino abbey and do you recommend spending one of the days visiting there? I heard you can take a train from Rome? Thank you!
Thank you so much. I'm glad you find my website helpful! Yes, I know of Monte Cassino abbey but I've never been. I use this site to help me figure out how to get where I want to go: www.rome2rio.com
Thank you so much! Yes, I usually do and I think I neglected to do so in a few spots in this video. I hope you can easily find them in the map I shared. Thanks so much for watching and for giving me helpful tips to improve!
Do you have a video with suggestions of things to do when arriving in Rome after an all night flight from the US? We plan to leave our luggage at our hotel until check in time, have brunch and walk, walk, walk to stay awake and fight jet lag. Maybe a food tour, a garden, museum? Our hotel is near the Spanish Steps.
That's a great idea for a video! Believe me, as an American who flies back home 1-2x a year, and as someone who ran a B&B (with my husband) here in Rome for nearly 20 years, I know exactly what it's like to arrive in Rome on those early arrival flights, get to your hotel in a jet-lag haze, only to try to figure out what to do for the next few hours until your room is ready. I do not recommend a food tour as this will not be enjoyable and you will likely not really remember anything. I also would avoid a museum. I think walking outside is the best thing, to keep you awake and to keep you feeling minimally refreshed. But you are right, it's a good idea for a video and I'll add it to the list!
Thank you so much for all your videos! I got lost when the names of the restaurants you recommended weren't being shown. I didn't know how to spell some of them from just listening to the name and subsequently couldn't locate them until I found them on the map link.
Thanks so much for watching. Ah, sorry for any confusion about the restaurants. I am glad you found them in the map. I'll try to make sure to write them on the screen next time!
Great video and I love all your videos but I can’t believe the Trevi fountain didn’t make this list. Quick and free and not far from the things that did make the list
Ah of course I would not leave off the Trevi Fountain - please see the table of contents. You'll find the Trevi Fountain is at 12:10. Thank you for your kind comments about my videos - I'm glad you enjoy them!
This is one of your best videos! Thank you so much. Love the tips for reducing stress and options for those who want to go at a more relaxing pace or for those w more energy. Also, really love your maps and the suggestions on places to stop for food!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be doing more itinerary videos so please stay tuned. After years of helping tourists with their itineraries when we had our B&B in Rome, I know that there are many different types of visitors, and I try to let make the itinerary good for everyone. I also know many people try to pack in too much and can get tired out, which is why I default to a slower pace and less stuff, but give you the option in case you find the time and energy for more! I'm glad you find that, and my maps, helpful!
Thanks! I am a walker so this itinerary is pretty much a walking itinerary. But you can certainly use the buses or other transportation if that suits you better.
Hi, thanks for your incredible work. I am preparing my trip to Italy with your videos, I live in Utah but I am Argentine. My English is not fluent, but I can understand you. I’m planning to visit Rome soon, probably in October. Can you explain or give me the information about buses? I think I will need many of them, because I have problem with my leg. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you understand me. If you like, you can turn on subtitles and set them to Spanish. They may not be perfect because they are AI generated but they can do a pretty good job! Yes, I have a page about this on my website: www.romewise.com/rome-transportation.html Taking the bus is easy and convenient! Just get a pass for the time you will be here (1, 3- or 7 day), and use your phone (Google maps is connected to Rome's public transportation system ATAC) to figure out which buses you need to get from point A to point B. Have a wonderful trip!
I have been watching your videos and find them very informative. Right to the point! Thank you. How do I find the maps for the itineraries you recommended?
My husband and I are visiting Rome for 48 hours either on the 7 or 8th of December Before departing on a Viiking ship. What would you recommend for an itinerary during these winter months? I don't think the Vatican will be open? BTW, thank you for your piece on how to dress for a December visit. VERY helpful. I have a suggestion, where to enjoy GF option menue in and out of touristy areas. Thank you!
In this video, I share my best tips for an itinerary of 48 hours. Yes, the Vatican is open. If you mean the Vatican Museums, they will be closed on December 8 which is a holiday. You can watch some more videos on my channel for more details, and I also have a lot of tips on my website: www.romewise.com Here are my tips for eating GF in Rome: www.romewise.com/gluten-free-in-rome.html Here are my tips about what to pack in winter: ua-cam.com/video/B2fQI7oUyqc/v-deo.html You might also want to see this video about what to pack in autumn because early December is actually fall: ua-cam.com/video/liYhh_6dRiQ/v-deo.html You should know that December 8 is a major holiday, so come prepared: www.romewise.com/rome-events-in-december.html (many events are showing 2023 but we will be updating them for 2024.)
I really appreciate this itinerary! I was worried about overdoing it (my poor husband) so this will save him from being too exhausted. We will be visiting for the first time in December 2023. We will end up back in Rome on Christmas day, after a cruise. What would you suggest we do regarding sightseeing on Christmas day?
So glad you like this itinerary. As for Christmas, I have some videos on the channel so you can see what it's like: ua-cam.com/play/PLEAd_Z-Tx6V2k0eykkhfuj60cCd0N4COn.html As for what to do in Rome at Christmas, please visit these pages on my website: www.romewise.com/rome-at-christmas.html www.romewise.com/christmas-events-in-rome.html www.romewise.com/where-to-eat-in-rome-at-christmas.html www.romewise.com/rome-in-december-christmas-markets.html I hope that helps!
Are these sites walkable to each other? Or do we need to take an Uber from place to place. (We are not going to the Vatican it will be closed when we are there) We do have a tour booked for the Jewish Quarter and the Synagogue though oh and the Collesium too. So basically the other sites you mentioned like angels bridge and so on… walkable or Ubers? Of walkable, will the hotel concierge help map out our day? Thanks…
In the description of this video, I've included a link to a Google map showing both days' walks. You can see where everything is and how far apart they are on that map. I planned it so it's walkable and you should not need any other transportation unless you are tired or have walking issues.
But if we buy that one ticket to Colosseum & Pantheon & Forum what do we do? How the ticket works if it has a time slot? Say, we choose the 8 am time slot and enter the Colosseum. How do we enter the Pantheon then? If it's not 8 am anymore 😅
Well these are two separate tickets. The Colosseum opens at 8:30 am and you can visit it then, and afterwards visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill (included in the Colosseum ticket.) Then, you can book a completely different time slot for the Pantheon. If you are not sure what time to book for the Pantheon, you can just go there and wait in the cash line (on the left). it moves pretty quickly.
A few decades ago, it was free to walk around the Roman Forum, but since I've lived in Rome (I moved here in 2001), there has been a fee to enter the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill. It's part of your Colosseum ticket. I have a whole Colosseum playlist and I talk about all the different tickets available and the different ways to visit these sites. I hope you find it helpful!
Wondering which area you recommend for first time visiting Rome with young adults: near Villa Borghese (hotel room)or near the colloseum rione monti area(apartment) This would be in early March. I have both places on hold:)
Monti/Colosseum is much more central and closer to the sites. Villa Borghese is a bit further out but may be quieter. Depends on what you are looking for.
Sorry about that! It's the Taverna dei Fori Imperiali. I included all the place names in the Google maps that shows these itineraries. You can also find them there! Enjoy!
Hi and thanks for watching. It's not possible to visit the Sistine Chapel without visiting the Vatican museums. The Sistine Chapel is INSIDE of and at the end of the museums. You might find my pages on my website helpful: www.romewise.com/vatican-hub.html You might also find my Vatican playlist on this channel useful: ua-cam.com/play/PLEAd_Z-Tx6V2P1eyvXoPNB6EbSOd3ZIHf.html
Hi, After spending a five night stay in Rome, exiting today for Lisbon. Rome is a romantic place despite the many negative things that you see , such as Homeless people around the Vatican in St Peters Square and many people asking for a cigarette or money. There are many people from Bangladesh who are working in the Service Sector. My main point here , is about the pickpockets in Rome Metro Trains. As my wife and I were to enter the Train, a couple with a pram , blocked the entrance. Another lady with a hat covering her left palm tried to open the bag of my wife. Simultaneously, another man with a jacket covering his hand , opened my sling bag. Sensing something is wrong, I noticed that my wife's sling bag was half open and mine too. Half open. As we got altered, and reminded about the Pickpockets in our country, we moved away. Fellow travellers may read this and please be careful in bus/ Metro in Rome as all four ( the couple with the pram, two pickpockets) were all a gang.
We offer trip planning as a paid service and can book guides, tours, hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. If you are interested, please write us at alessandro@romewise.com.
Yes, Viator is a reliable booking agency. They are what I call a "tour umbrella" - they allow you to see lots of different tours offered by different companies so you can make the best choice for your visit. I use Viator as one of my trusted affiliates. I hope you have a great time!
Hi! I am trying to buy tickets to pantheon and i created a login. It didn't work with my us credit card as you mentioned. But there is no option to pay with paypal so I am confused to how to actually buy anything here! Please help!
Yes, it's really frustrating they have not yet found a way to accept non EU credit cards. I hope they fix this soon. There IS an option to pay with PayPal but it's not evident. Look closely at the option for "pay a different way" and then there a bunch of choices, two that allow you to use PayPal. I hope you can make it work for you!
This is an excellent tour that includes breakfast AND the shortcut to Saint Peter's Basilica. Please note that there are no longer tours that access the museums before opening hours with a pre-opening breakfast. You'll go in right at the opeming at 8AM, enjoy a buffet pancake/egg breakfast in the courtyard, and then tour the museums. The huge bonus is being able to take the shortcut from the Sistine Chapel into Saint Peter's Basilica. gyg.me/wbPQdZy0
There have been a few demonstrations but no riots. We always have a large security presence in the form of police, carabinieri, and the military, due to the fact that Rome is the capital and full of government facilities and embassies from around the world. It is of course up to you to decide to come or not, but in general, Rome is a safe city.
I think you are not alone in this sentiment, but unfortunately, the only way to see the Sistine Chapel is by going through the museums. It's at the very end. That said. you can follow my instructions here and bypass most of the museums and get to the Sistine Chapel in less than half an hour: ua-cam.com/video/5ac7cvBH0iY/v-deo.html
The Romans say that a lifetime is not enough....but I know sometimes people have limited time. And while you can't see it all in 2 days, you can see a lot!
I am all for spending a lot of time in Rome, but many people just don't have that much time. I hope this video will help those with only 48 hours to get the most out of their visit with the least amount of stress.
I had 3 days before a cruise last year and these videos are amazing to help give wonderful ideas. We fell in love with Rome and knew we didn't have enough time. We are coming back in November and due to our schedule (life, jobs, pets, etc) we will only have 3.5 days. I'm hoping my next trip will be longer, but I am grateful for the blessings in my life that allow me the time and ability to travel, even if for a short duration.
@@stiknik I always say this about visiting Rome - you can't see it all, but anything you do see will be wonderful! That's great that you love Rome and will visit even for another 3.5 days. I have a lot of friends who visit Rome every year and just see and do what they can. I hope you have a wonderful time! And yes, we have to be grateful for the blessings we have. A beautiful way to look at things!

Thank you so much. I'm soon to visit Rome and we would have some free time and didn't know where to start.
So glad it was helpful!
Been watching your videos since we booked our trip for the Christmas holidays. Thanks so much for all your great tips and information! This is our second trip to Rome but this time we have more time to really look around.
Thanks so much for your kind comments! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
I hope you have a wonderful visit to Rome next May!
Thank you so much for that Pantheon hint. I've walked past it several times this week and did not want to wait in that line. I will give this a try tomorrow for sure! 🙂
Glad I could help! I hope you'll try it! Please come back and let me know here in the comments!
I hope you find this helpful:

Thank you so much! We are planning a 1st time visit, but only have 3 days and want to go to Pompeii as well.
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm going to have 3 days in Rome, but one whole day I want to spend it at the Vatican so this is helpful.
Glad you found it helpful!
Love your videos! I’ve been crash watching everything to help me plan my visit in august - thank you
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I'm glad you find my videos helpful!
I use this site to help me figure out how to get where I want to go:

such a helpful video!
Glad you think so! :) Thanks for commenting!
Love your videos. Suggestions: please spell out the name of your suggestions for restaurants or bars on the screen.
Very helpful... thank you

Your videos are so helpful. Thank you
Thanks so much!
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you!
Thank you so much! So very nice of you!!!
Detailed organized guide! Thanks for sharing. So did you walk all the way or do you take buses as well? Thank you
Yes, I have a page about this on my website:
www.romewise.com/rome-transportation.html
Taking the bus is easy and convenient! Just get a pass for the time you will be here (1, 3- or 7 day), and use your phone (Google maps is connected to Rome's public transportation system ATAC) to figure out which buses you need to get from point A to point B. Have a wonderful trip!

You can watch some more videos on my channel for more details, and I also have a lot of tips on my website:

You should know that December 8 is a major holiday, so come prepared:

I really appreciate this itinerary! I was worried about overdoing it (my poor husband) so this will save him from being too exhausted. We will be visiting for the first time in December 2023. We will end up back in Rome on Christmas day, after a cruise. What would you suggest we do regarding sightseeing on Christmas day?
So glad you like this itinerary. As for Christmas, I have some videos on the channel so you can see what it's like:

great!
@@Romewise thank you so much!
Can you please spell the name of the lunch spot near the Colosseum so I can book reservations?
Thank you for the great content!
Thanks for your kind comments. The restaurant is Taverna dei Fori Imperiali.
@@Romewise Thank you so much!!
@@Romewise thank you so much 🙏
@@annarak7798 Happy to help!
What was the restaurant she mention near the colosseum? She said it so fast and I can’t understand.
Sorry about that - I should have said it a little slower. Its the Taverna dei Fori Imperiali. It's on the map I linked to in the description.

Are reservations needed for restaurants?
You can find out here:
ua-cam.com/video/9G9_a1DbSJM/v-deo.html
If you just want to walk around the Roman Forum do you need a ticket? TY!
Wondering which area you recommend for first time visiting Rome with young adults: near Villa Borghese (hotel room)or near the colloseum rione monti area(apartment)
This would be in early March. I have both places on hold:)
Monti/Colosseum is much more central and closer to the sites. Villa Borghese is a bit further out but may be quieter. Depends on what you are looking for.
Hi , could not catch the name of the lunch restaurant near Colosseum ? Appreciate if you let me know thanks so much!
Sorry about that! It's the Taverna dei Fori Imperiali. I included all the place names in the Google maps that shows these itineraries. You can also find them there!
Enjoy!
Where do I find the itinerary/map you mentioned??
Thanks for watching! I thought the map was in the description but I just saw it was not there. I've added it now. Hope that helps!
Hi Elyssa! How can I visit St Peters Basilica and the Sixtine chapel without going to the vatican museum? Are there tickets for only those 2?
Hi and thanks for watching. It's not possible to visit the Sistine Chapel without visiting the Vatican museums. The Sistine Chapel is INSIDE of and at the end of the museums. You might find my pages on my website helpful:

Hi,
After spending a five night stay in Rome, exiting today for Lisbon.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.
@@Romewise That's okay. Part of travelling 🙏
Do you know a personale guide, i can use?
We offer trip planning as a paid service and can book guides, tours, hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc. If you are interested, please write us at alessandro@romewise.com.
I booked a tour through viator I’m unsure as I don’t see you listing them..
I can’t figure out how to get the map anybody know?
If you click to expand the description, the link to the map is there.
Which tour has breakfast?
This is an excellent tour that includes breakfast AND the shortcut to Saint Peter's Basilica.
Please note that there are no longer tours that access the museums before opening hours with a pre-opening breakfast.
You'll go in right at the opeming at 8AM, enjoy a buffet pancake/egg breakfast in the courtyard, and then tour the museums.
The huge bonus is being able to take the shortcut from the Sistine Chapel into Saint Peter's Basilica.

I’m coming to Rome in two weeks time is it safe with all the Riots going on getting very worried because I’m taking grandchildren
There have been a few demonstrations but no riots.
We always have a large security presence in the form of police, carabinieri, and the military, due to the fact that Rome is the capital and full of government facilities and embassies from around the world.
It is of course up to you to decide to come or not, but in general, Rome is a safe city.
Thank you I feel much more happier now
I'm happy if I reassured you. @@bevrleygreen3900

Aww that's very kind of you! I am not a tour guide but I am glad you enjoyed the video!
I would like an early entry that just goes to the Sistine Chapel then goes to St. Peters. I don’t care about the Vatican Museum
I think you are not alone in this sentiment, but unfortunately, the only way to see the Sistine Chapel is by going through the museums. It's at the very end. That said. you can follow my instructions here and bypass most of the museums and get to the Sistine Chapel in less than half an hour:

Two days in rome and expecting to see , is receipt for heart attack. Advice from 1900 travel book.
The Romans say that a lifetime is not enough....but I know sometimes people have limited time. And while you can't see it all in 2 days, you can see a lot!
48 hrs in Rome is stupid. Srart with that and think it through. 5 days,,?
