In my opinion, she creates and posts on UA-cam some of the best, if not the best, informational videos about visiting Rome. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! So nice of you! I really appreciate it. You made my day!
Thank you for all the incredible hard work, content, insight, and suggestions! Absolutely amazing!
I agree
I’ve been to Rome many times and am amazed at all the novel, fantastic, and important content and suggestions that she provides.
Thanks so much!! @@ralphcasale9702
Landed in Rome today..guys grabbed us leaving terminal. Started walking us away from taxi line. Because I’d watched this video last week, I asked if he was a white taxi. No he was a black taxi. I asked cost and he replied meter. I said no thanks and went to white taxi line. My adult son was so impressed!, thank you!
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing your experience. I am so glad you were in the know and avoided paying more than you needed to! Great job! I hope you have a wonderful visit in Rome!
😅@@Romewise
Asking if a driver has a white taxi won’t help you. Many scam drivers have white taxis. You need to look at the doors for the City of Rome logo. A scam white taxi will not have the City of Rome logo on the door.
And hailing a taxi on the street is a good way to attract a scam white taxi. You must always check the door for the City of Rome logo. I agree itTaxi is the best taxi APP IN Rome.
@@TheRomanPilgriminPerson Great additional tips!
The absolute best guard against being overcharged is Elyssa’s tip on using the taximeter estimator BEFORE you APP for the cab. These are actually very accurate for Rome. Just type in your location and destination and any other prompts and you will know the cost of your trip. Stick to that value if you’re overcharged and pay only that amount. It helps to have small bills and change on you when using Rome cabs. I’ve lived in Rome for 7 years and I just recently had to rely on the taximeter to get myself out of an overcharge. I did it and you can do it too. It works like a charm. Knowledge is your friend.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you find my tips helpful!
At the Taxi Stand in front of St. Peter's Basilica the cab driver wanted 30 Euros to take us to the Mausoleum of Augustus. It's only a 10 minute walk but we were exhausted from touring the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's all morning. Shouldn't have cost more than 10 or 12 Euro but we probably would have paid up to 20. He was quite rude about it so we declined. None of the other cabbies would even deal with us because he was the 1st one in the queue. They were all standing around talking and smoking and obviously didn't want to work. We wound up walking and so glad we did because we got to experience the beautiful views along the Tiber and the Ponte Sant'Angelo. We took taxis all over Rome and Florence and this was the one and only time we had an issue.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry you had such as hard time with the taxi drivers. This is what I mean by a few of them giving the rest a bad name. I am glad for you that you enjoyed the walk, and I'm also glad to hear that other than this experience, you had no other problems with taxis in Rome and Florence!
Sounds like my experience. I got a taxi from my hotel to the Vatican Museums for €22 and that included a winding ride around the streets of Rome because of construction. The driver was great (Verona 308 was his cab). After the visit to the museum and Vatican courtyard, I made my way to the taxi stand at San Pietro. The driver first asked how many (one) and then quoted me €38!!!! OMG. I told him, "It's a €20 ride!" He mumbled something about the traffic. 😅 "No, thanks, I'll walk." My hotel was near the Colosseum so he probably could have picked up a fare easily enough there. Yes, I ended up walking and it was almost 4 km from the taxi stand but I sure saw a lot of Rome. 😅
@@chronic2023 I'm glad you were able to walk back to your hotel - it's too bad there was not another taxi in the line you could have taken. I am sorry to hear these stories as I really believe most taxi drivers are honest - it's just these that try to gouge tired tourists that really make a bad name for the rest of them!
Thanks, this is so helpful

Thank you! So glad you found it helpful!
Great advice, especially about not handing over money until you're outside the car, with your luggage, and after the driver confirms it is the correct amount (and has change in hand, if applicable).
Unscrupulous drivers might take your 50€ bill then quickly switch it with another bill, e.g. a 20€ then claim that you owe the difference, e.g. you need to pay another 30€. Passengers who are tired might be fooled; others might pay to avoid the conflict/hassle.
Thanks for your comments. Yes, this is the scam I hear about most often and I think they know it works because visitors are tired and just want to get to their destination. In any case, really most drivers are honest, but if you get an unscrupulous one, it helps to be prepared!

THANK YOU!!!!! I plan on using itTaxi. Now I know how exactly it will work.

Thanks for the advice 👍
I’ll definitely take a look at that app, although walking will be my main way of getting around during the day.
Absolutely, I am a big fan of walking around Rome! But it's good to have a backup plan for when your feet give out!
Take Elyssa’s tip on having a backup plan to heart. Rome is not a smooth even walk, navigating rough uneven cobblestones, crowded sidewalks, and distance will take its toll as also will the hot sun.
Great.
Thanks!
Thanks for the tip about IT Taxi! I'll be in Rome in a couple of weeks and this is going to come in very handy. Grazie!

I just want to ask, we have a very early Vatican tour. We have to meet a guide at like 7:30. We want to take a taxi. I wanted to ask how early they are available? - thank you!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
You can get taxis 24/7 (unless there is a taxi strike!) You will find them at taxi ranks all around the city. If you are staying at a hotel, you can have your concierge call one for you, if you like.
Either way, I suggest getting a taxi by no later than 6:50, so you make it in plenty of time and can relax.
Have a great visit!
Going in June and I’ve learned sooo much from you already 💖 Suggestions for breakfast before a very early morning tour? We are staying in the Castro Pretorio. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind comments! If you have an early tour, I would try to grab breakfast near your tour. If you are going to the Vatican, my top suggestion is SciaScia café. If you do want breakfast in Castro Pretorio, you can try Bar Rossi or Trombetta. There are also two bars right in from of Santa Maria Maggiore that open really early. Both are great options for an early breakfast.

LOL I LOVE SCIASCIA Cafe’, just remember there is a difference between chocolate coffee and chocolate capuce. If you go in there and ask for chocolate coffee you will get a tiny cup of very intense Espresso laced with equally intense dark chocolate. See if you can get a mound of Panna Cream to go with. Otherwise just remember to ask for Chocolate Capuce. I still make this mistake, it takes an astute customer or sharp Barista to remind me of the difference.
Thank you for this video - my husband always says to me, why do you watch so much youtube on places we are going to by the time we get there it won't be exciting as you'll have seen it all already !!
My response is, if I come away with one tiny little piece of information then it's worth it and this video is a perfect example of that. I had no idea about the fixed price taxi fare only being applicable to accom within the Aurelian Walls or that the taxi should be registered in the city and having now heard that I have changed our accomodation booking to one within the walls. I was undecided as to which place I wanted to stay in and this has made the decision a little easier. Thank you
Wow that really makes my day! I am so glad you found this helpful! I hope you have a wonderful visit to Rome!
Fantastic video, thank you! Beautiful turtleneck, would you remember the brand?

Great video! Thank you kindly. I was wondering if you know what vehicle or transportation service would be good to book ahead of time from Milan Airport to downtown milan?
Thanks so much! I am not a Milan expert but I imagine you could book a car service from one of the Milan airports to the center. I suggest starting with GetYourGuide, and looking for Milan airport. You'll find a lot of options there.
Thank you for this video. we were looking at the Leonardo express then taxi but we will probably just be better getting a taxi from the airport with the fixed fare
Thanks for watching! Both options are fine. Just make sure your accommodations are inside the Aurelian Walls!
If you could walk to your hotel after arriving at Roma Termini, then it may be more economical, but if you have to take a taxi at Roma Termini to reach your hotel, it’s best to take a City of Rome taxi at the airport. Also with construction going on now in Piazza del Cinquecento, you have to walk farther down to the NE corner to find the queue and it’s a hassle. And scam white cabs are cruising the streets.
Great video, thank you. I could not see the link you mention about getting public transport from airport, any help on this please?
Thank you! Sorry to which link are you referring?
Hi we will be going from Rome to the cruise port that departs from Civitavecchia. should we take a city cab or the train? I love your videos. My husband and I have written down so many ideas that you have shared..
Thanks so much for your kind comments. You might find this page helpful:
www.romewise.com/civitavecchia-to-rome.html
If it was me, I'd hire a private car service, one that specifically has permission to take me right up to the ship.
But I know many people take the train, and find it fairly easy. It mind depend on how much luggage you have.
I advise writing down the address of your hotel if you know where you are staying when you arrive at the airport in Rome and give this to the taxi driver....Then get some hotel business cards when you arrive at your hotel and use these when your away from your hotel and use these hotel business cards the same way. Writing down destination addresses you know in advance will also help the taxi driver make the transaction more smooth.
This is excellent advice! I've heard from some people that they forgot the name of the hotel where they were staying and had a hard time getting back to their hotel. Thanks for sharing!
I have often found myself far from our hotel by the end of the day, suffering from sore knee and in need of a taxi. Your advice is so extremely helpful. I have downloaded the IT Taxi app for those times when I am not near a stand, which we've used often. Thank you! How do I find your B&B info?
Thanks so much for letting me know you found this video helpful. We ran a B&B in Rome from 2001-2018 but got out of that business and now we focus 100% on UA-cam and our websites, www.romewise.com and www.florencewise.com.
I love your channel! I’m curious what your plan is for when you’re much older and/ or one of you becomes unable to travel as much? Would you come back to the US to be near your kids?
Thank you! At the moment our plans are to stay here in Italy, but we also have the idea of moving back to the states someday, but it's not set in stone.
Thanks for the very informative video. Question on the iTaxi app - when you’ve used it to call a taxi does the app tell you what the cost will be?
No, but if you look in my description, I linked to a taxi rate calculator/estimator.
Very helpful video!!! thanks… At 2-3 o’clock in the morning from Fiumicino airport to city of rome (inside Aurelian walls ) the rate for the taxi is also 50 euros?
I believe so. I don't know of any official price increases based on that time of day /night.
I was just in Rome. Got a good, honest driver to take me to the Vatican Museums from my hotel east of the Colosseum. €22. Because of construction and one-way streets, you may get the impression that the driver is "taking you for a ride" price wise. In fact, Rome is a bit of a mess to get around in. On the way back, I went to a taxi stand east of the Vatican and the driver quoted me €38 for the ride back. 😅😅😅 No, thanks. My feet were killing me but there was NO way I was paying €38 for a €20 ride.
Great job avoiding that overly-expensive taxi ride! I love walking in Rome but sometimes one is just too tired. If there were no other taxis in the queue, I'd have called for one, or gone to the next taxi stand. Or taken the bus! But the good thing is you were savvy enough to know not to get into that taxi. Good job!
Thanks for the very helpful video. I was wondering if you know the answer to this question. Will any taxi in Rome take you outside the city? For example to another city in Lazio over an hour away.
If you are looking to go that far outside Rome, you will likely need to book a private (NCC) car service in advance. If you just hop into a white city taxi, it is unlikely they will take you that far, but you can ask. To be sure, I'd look into public transportation options or booking a car service. Try www.rome2rio.com to see all your options.
Useful as always thank you. Although I speak Italian well, I’ve had problems with touts who try to grab my baggage - particularly at Ciampino - so as to escort me fairly insistently to a pay desk which would lead to a trip in a shared 10-seater waiting in one of the outer car parks. Those trips can sometimes cost less, but they take two hours while everyone is dropped off. I’ve even had them try to say that the payment is for the regular white cabs at the taxi stand and that the method of payment has now been updated into prepayment at a desk. Elsewhere (Cagliari) I’ve had them grab my bags and proceed at pace out into the car park.
The remedy is to ignore them, protest firmly if they try to grab a bag and to insist on the registered Roma can in line only. Wearing a mask helps avoid eye contact with them. Once I alleged that I was COVID+ but it didn’t repel them!
Thanks for sharing your experience! I think the best thing to do is to know in advance how you plan to get into the city and then stick to that plan. Forewarned is forearmed!
Hi! Love these vids! I’m trying to book a car in advance but when I click the link it takes me to a general page. Any company recommendations?

Thanks very much for your 2day trip to Rome, map was so helpful. Just one qs for this video, why so many old person driving b&w taxi all over the city?
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed my 48-hours video. I'm not sure what you mean about old people driving taxis.
@@Romewise I mean the drivers are mostly aged person, seems to be above 60s...we don't see very often in this part of the world. curios to know whether they are driving to just pass time or for serious earning?
Well to be honest, since I take taxis quite often in Rome, I find that they range in age from mid-20s and up. But in Italy, usually when people have a job, they have it for life and so whoever you see driving a taxi is probably doing so as his long-term job. @@you4raj
hi nice info we are going by cruise ship next year from miami to rome will it be easy to get transportation to city center from the port?
Thanks for watching! I always suggest booking any kind of transportation from the cruise port into Rome city center in advance. So yes, it will be easy if you book ahead. Don't count on there just being taxis there waiting. On the other hand, if you want to take the train, that is certainly easy to do without booking in advance, but less convenient. You can read more here:
www.romewise.com/civitavecchia-to-rome.html
Great video! One question, we have an 1 year old with us do we need to request car seat or holding on lap is okay? Flight is at 7 AM so need the canlb at 4.30 AM throiu the app, is there a surcharge for that? Lastly how do we ask for bigger cab as we have more 4 big bags and two small bags. Thanka again.
Thank you! I would absolutely request a car seat for your one year old. If you are asking about the app, IT Tax,i that I shared with you in the video, I showed how to ask inside the app for a larger car and with extra luggage. Hope that helps! Have a great trip!
Thank you, you’re videos are so helpful. We are staying outside the Aurelian walls and travelling in from Fiumicino. Do we expect the taxi driver to put the meter on- and then whatever the amount it shouldn’t exceed 73 euros? Also do they charge extra for baggage? Mary
Thank you! Yes, the driver will turn on the meter and you'll pay what is on the meter. If it's inside the Grande Raccordo Annulare (the big ring road that circles Rome and its suburbs), the the cost cannot exceed 73 Euros. I am not sure if baggage is included. It seems from their tariff page that luggage is 1€ per piece.
@@Romewise Thank you so much for responding.
All your videos are quite informative and to the point. We arrive in Rome via a cruise ship, then a train to Roma termini at the end of April and plan take a taxi from the train station to our accommodation on Via Giulia; I presume there is a taxi station just outside the train station. Can give us a ball park figure of how much can we expect to pay for the ride? Thank you.
Thank you for your kind comments.
As I mentioned in the video at 12:36, you can expect to pay somewhere between 12-18 Euros for a ride from Termini to somewhere in the city center. In the description, I also link to a rate estimator website you can use.
@@Romewise Thanks a bunch. Have yourself a great week!
My pleasure, same to you! @@apheenaroebuck-webb3385
Great video. We are arriving in FCO an have 4 people with 8 bags total. Do the airport taxi ranks have vans big enough for all our luggage and passengers? Thanks!
Thanks so much! Yes, when you go to the taxi rank, you will be able to bypass the regular queue of taxis to get a larger one. When it's your turn, let them see you are people with 8 bags and they will let you know which car to get into. You might have to wait a bit if there is not one on the spot but usually they show up fairly quickly.
@@Romewise thank you so much! We are going to a hotel in Civitivecchia and were wondering if the large vehicles are also fixed rate 125€ or higher in price. Thanks again .
If you are going from FCO the rate should be fixed at 125€. There is a limit to 4 passengers. Check the rate sheet I posted in the description. @@heidibeechuk9203
awesome video but what if you need a white taxi van for 5 people and it is not at the front of the line?
If you are in a line for taxis, let them know you have 5 people, and the drivers will pass over you until a large enough car shows up. They are used to this issue and have an honor system among them.
Hi, at around 17:20 you had said that if taking taxi from FCO to somewhere outside the Aurelian Walls that the taxi driver will turn on the meter and you would be expected to pay whatever is on the meter. Earlier you had mentioned (11:30) that it was capped at 73 Euros. Is this still correct ? We are taking taxi from FCO to outside the Aurelian Walls (Mercure Roma Piazza Bologna). Thank you.
Yes that is still the official tariff. The rate is not set at 50€ if you go from Fiumicino to a location outside the Aurelian Walls. And as long as it's within the GRA (ring road), which Piazza Bologna is, then the rate is called at 73 Euros.
hello, thank you for the information I was wondering if Trastevere is within the walls? If it is and we take a taxi from Fiumicino, we are four people with four regular luggage and four carry-ons will there be a extra cost for the luggage? I was reading the rate sheet you posted and it says for luggage is free any additional is one euro is this correct thank you
Most of Trastevere is within the walls. You can read more and also see a map of where in Rome is inside the Aurelian walls on my page here:
www.romewise.com/fiumicino-airport-to-rome.html
You may not all be able to fit into a taxi with 4 people and 4 pieces of luggage + carryons, but if you can, then the standard rates apply. I take that to mean 50€ if where you are going is inside the walls (ask your hotel or host), and extra fees per piece of luggage as stated on the official rates page.
Grazie mille! My husband uses a wheelchair. Last year, I rented places near taxi stands but after dinners we needed to call for a taxi. At least once, the restaurant couldn't get through to the taxi company, so we were stranded. We had issues finding taxis in Florence, too. Does ItTaxi work in Florence?
Thanks for sharing!! I'm sorry you had such a difficult time. Yes, I talk about this in the video - ITTaxi works throughout Italy. I hope it helps!
@@Romewise thank you so much! I don't know how I missed you saying itTaxi is all over Italy. 🤦♀️ But I appreciate you taking the time to specifically clarify Florence, especially since I know you've been spending time there.
No problem! It's a long video :) @@roaminghistorian2234
This was in October.
Does anyone know if the fixed price from FCO to Rome centre changes in the evening my scheduled flight arrives approximately 8pm I was aiming for a taxi
According to the official rates that I posted (link in description), the fare should still be fixed at 50€ if you go someplace within the Aurelian Walls. Make sure to check with the driver before you get in.
Most taxi drivers in Rome were pretty good. I used the app and I went to taxi ranks without much trouble. At Fiumicino, however, I had trouble getting a taxi to agree to take me to the Spanish Steps area for the fixed price listed right on the side of the car. I called to all of the drivers and one agreed to take me for only 2€ more, which I accepted. If no one would have accepted, it would have been the Leonardo Express for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Wow, it's disappointing that so many drivers would refuse to honor the fixed rate. Good for you that you stood your ground!
Anytime you take a taxi at FCO to an area inside the Aurelian Walls, the Fixed Rate kicks in. You get in the cab and when you get out of the cab and get your luggage you pay 50 Euro. The only other option is the meter if you go outside the Walls. There is no agreement, you don’t make agreements, you don’t ask a taxi driver if s/he agrees with the fixed rate, you have to know where you are going. I simply place the fare on the seat if the driver violates the fixed fare, or the meter for that matter. I’ve had Rome taxi drivers charge me double over the meter. I pay the meter or the fixed fare.
I (woman) have taken many white taxis within the city of Rome, and to and from the airport, and I have never been ripped off. Ever. I do speak Italian, though, and that might help, but in my experience they are trustworthy.
Yes, I agree with you. I mention several times in this video that I think most drivers are honest. Sadly, it's those few bad apples that give the rest of them a bad name. Glad you have also had a good experience!
At St Peter’s the police diverted traffic- and the stand became a “ghost”. We had to cross the Tiber and walk a kilometre to find a stand. Quite an adventure!
Yeah it's going to be in a state of flux over the next year or so!
When was this? In January? @davidprosser
We had a rental car that we returned to one of the FCO car rental places (Hertz) and the driver turned on the meter to go to Rome. The charge was somewhere around 70E. I wanted my husband to ask him why it wasnt a flat fee but he just ignored me and paid the guy. He thought that maybe they turn on the meter if they pick up at the car rental instead of the taxi queue. Do you know if this is right or did he rip us off?
Hmmm, no there is nothing that says that taxi drivers should use the meter when picking you up at a rental car agency vs. the airport queue. My only guess is that where you were staying was outside the Aurelian Walls, which I mention in the video.
You say that Uber only gives you the 'Black' cab/limo option, but my Uber app shows, and we have used recently the 'White' cab option in Rome. You might want to take another look at the app.
Yes, it's true that the Uber app shows white taxis. It means that Uber subcontracts the white taxis.
What I meant when I said that the only option you get with Uber was Uber black, i.e. a limo driver, is that we don't have here the kind of Uber service where a regular person drives their car and acts as an Uber driver. That has been strictly forbidden here.
So yes, you can get a white taxi through Uber as you could through another taxi app, or you will get an NCC (limo) driver.
@@Romewise Understood :-)
My experience in my just concluded 5day trip to Rome 1. Drivers are honest, mostly drive by aged person, you are lucky if they know English, use google translate 2. One driver missed to start on the meter, but polite to say what you feel ok, give it me. We knew the rate while going out in tge morning from hotel to station 3. No issue with Amex card, tap or punch 4. After booking, generally taxi comes very first and they charge on the meter, 5 There is a nice Rank we find after we finshed the Vatican and went to the bridge to see the castle Sant'Angelo, Rank was next to Bridge entry. You can go tye beautiful restaurant just across the road(right to crissing) Locanda dell'Angelo Ristorante Pizzeria Braceria if you are hungry after tye visit. Just taste their 🍕, delicious.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience!
What about catching a train from Fiumicino into Rome city centre
Are you saying you'd like to see a video about that? I'll be happy to! Thanks for the suggestion!
How much from the airport to polo hotel
It depends on many factors - which airport, Ciampino or Fiumicino? What kind of taxi service, white metered taxi or an NCC limo? The hotel seems to be within the Aurelian walls, so if you take a white-metered taxi, the prices should be set as I mentioned in the video. If you take a limo service, rates will vary.
We went last week and used Uber three times, each time they arrived in only three minutes. low prices too.
Yes, in Italy, the Uber app also acts as a booking agent for white city taxis. You just won't find Uber with regular people using their own cars the way you do in other markets. I'm glad it worked for you!
I remembered I ordered a taxi through Uber and the driver still requested to be paid in cash. I clarified I paid through Uber when I got to the destination and he seemed visibly upset. Any reason why this happened?
Probably because that ate quite a lot into his profit. A cash payment means they get to keep it all and (probably) not declare it. A credit card payment means they lose fees, commissions, and taxes. Of course using apps and credit cards is the way most things work today and it's certainly the way of the future, but not everyone is ready for this.

Went to Rome last year. Taxi driver started talking to us in Italian. We told him we didn’t speak the language. He then proceeded to talk to us for the next 30 minutes in Italian and we did not understand a single word lol
Oh that is so funny but it does sound like something that would happen. I find some cab drivers just need to chat! They almost don't care if you answer back - LOL!
Did your Uber app ban you?
I wonder if taxi drivers purposely take the longest route to charge more before getting to the customer
Typically no.
However, it may seem like this due to factors like construction, one-way streets, traffic the driver is trying to avoid, etc.
For example, right now, we have a huge construction project happening at Piazza Venezia, and it's nearly impossible to use that node as a thru-point any more. So the driver has to figure out how else to get you to your destination and sometimes it may seem like a circuitous route.
It doesn't help the driver to take you a longer route than necessary. The fare would not change much, and (s)he'd be losing out on the next fare.
Whats the name of your hotel?
We had a B&B from 2001 until 2018. We no longer run it and now focus full time on this UA-cam channel and our websites www.romewise.com and www.florencewise.com.
I used Uber in Rome and it was inexpensive and a great service tbh
Great! It does indeed work but I find usually it costs more than regular taxis, but I know many people love Uber and at least it works here. I'm glad it worked for you!
I got terribly ripped off catching a taxi at the train station in Rome. The issue was I didn’t know where the meter was located in the taxi , I am sure that the driver didn’t clear the meter so for a 3 mile ride he charged me 56 euro. It left me avoiding taking taxis though the next day I had walked 27000 steps so I capitulated and grabbed a taxi at a stand to go 4 miles…. 15euro aaaaaargh
Oh dear I am really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with taxi drivers in Rome. Thank you for sharing your experience - hopefully someone else can learn from it.
@@Romewise Reading this post, Can you tell us what part of the taxi we can expect to see the meter?
The meter can be in different places depending on the driver and his/her car. You might see the meter on or near the rearview mirror or close to the radio in the center. Either way, the meter should be visible to you from where you sit. If you can't see the meter, ask the driver to show you where it is. @@apheenaroebuck-webb3385
@@Romewise Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my enquiry. Very much appreciated.
I wonder if the taxi you got even had a meter. Maybe that's why you didn't see it. 😢
Do the drivers speak English generally?
Some do some don't, but with the apps I mentioned, you can request an English speaking driver. Typically, when you book an NCC car, they speak enough English to communicate with you. They are not tour guides, but they can answer questions, usually.
Where is your bed and breakfast? We’re planning a trip to Rome in the next 6-12 months

So many potential inconveniences when traveling to Rome. It’s like traveling to a developing country…all the heightened precautions.
I think it's just a good idea to know what to look out for, as when traveling to any big city.
For some reason lately the review on ITtaxis are really bad giving it a 1 star stating that people have been known to have been scammed and overcharged?
Oh how strange, I have not seen that. And I have never once had a bad experience using the app. If anyone is getting scammed or overcharged, it's going to be because of the driver acting in bad faith, but if that happens, you can use the app to report him/her.
@@Romewise Yes agreed thank you for your video by the way, an extremely helpful tip on the walls of Aurelian especially ! keep making the world a better place! Grazie

What about an Uber
Yes I talk quite a lot about Uber in the video.
do drivers speak english?
Some do but not all. Most can speak enough to understand where you need to go. If you use one of the apps, you can request a driver that speaks English.
@@Romewise grazie
The it taxi app reviews has 1.8 out of 5 stars. That doesn't sound good
Yes, another commenter said the same - I am not sure why it has such a low rating. I use it all the time and I love it!
I so wish this video was available when I visited Rome, our taxi from the airport dropped us so far from our hotel, we had to struggle with 6 luggage, he told us he couldn’t take us close to the hotel. We realize he was lying as vehicles were on our hotel street. We had to conclude he was racist.
Omg hope this doesn't happen to me
Oh I'mm so sorry to hear that. I have heard this happen to others as well. I think (I HOPE) it was out of laziness rather than racism!
There are taxi drivers who over charge passengers. What a rip off! 😡
I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I talk about this issue in the video in the hopes it helps others avoid this situation.
Call an Uber, they come to you!
Well I actually talk a lot about Uber in this video. Uber does not exist in Rome (or Florence) the way many people are used to. There is only Uber black, which means a limo driver (NCC in Italian - noleggio con conducente.) So you can use your Uber app, but you will get a licensed driver and a fairly fancy car (BMW, Mercedes, etc.) It's definitely not a money saver.
@@Romewise ... Correct, it's Uber black. However they do have sedan sized cars and Mercedes vans. For us, a family of 5, it was much less to use the Uber than taxi as a taxi is limited to 4 passengers.
@@Romewise ... and also, I like that they come to you. Taxi's in Rome are difficult as you have to get to the taxi. We paid between 20.00 - 45.00 euro, depending on the trip. All very good prices for 5 people in a new Mercedes van. Not cheap, but fair.
@@amikailua9504 Well actually I talk alot in this video about the apps you can use that are like Uber - ITTaxi and FreeNow. You use them similarly to how you use Uber, and the taxi comes to you. But I know many people like Uber and you certainly can use the Uber app in Rome - it can also be used as an agent to get the white city taxis. It's just that with Uber, when you use it in Rome or Florence, you'll probably pay more than you would if you used ITTaxi or Free now with city taxis.
Fantastic info. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
