  • Planted 29 Gallon Set up video.
    In this video I share with you a time lapse of me dismantling my 20 gallon long aquarium and setting up a 29 gallon planted tank in its place. This was a very long tedious process but it was well worth it! This time around I decided to use Fluval Stratum aquasoil. I have had huge success with this stuff every single time I use it. That is why I use it. I always get a lot of questions as to why I don't use ADA or Tropica and it is simply because I can Find Fluval stratum everyone and it grows my plants extremely well every time I use it. It is a great product and I highly recommend it! Especially if you are a beginner. It makes feeding your plants very simple and easy to do. I will be using some liquid fertilizer for this tank by NilocG Aquatics. Their AIO fertilizer is awesome! This is a low tech planted tank so I will not be using CO2.

    Hi, I’m new to the hobby and my coworker donated his 30 gal tank with different catfish so I wanted ideas for a planted tank (natural is always better in my opinion). This vid was beautifully made so I will definitely be borrowing some ideas. :)
    Also, if you’re still looking for awesome koi angels Dans Fish sells really nice ones from what I’ve seen on his channel and website. I haven’t bought any but might be a good idea to try 👍🏼

    I liked the before, too lol. I think the 29s might be my favorite (and good on you for the window, people who don't groove on that placement will never have the joy of seeing their golden wonder killies flashing in the sunlight or bettas pensively watching the sun set or corys frisking under the full moon. Fish know darned well what a sky is, and I think they miss it- to me a window is the difference between a schoolroom and a prison cell, and I never wanted to be a jailer).

    I’ve been subscribed to your channel for probably a couple months now. Actually, I think yours was my first subscription. I am definitely going to go low tech for my first tank. I’m still doing research. You do so much with low tech set ups, you’re kind of my “go to” channel for education. I really like your presentations and your work in general. Being a Botanist, I have always known I wanted a heavily planted tank. You give me a lot of inspiration, thank you, J! When I’ve got my tank up and running, I’d appreciate your input and any suggestions on making it better. Would it be OK if I send a few pictures? I think you should be okay top put them back in soon after as long as your filter is cycled. That 29 that you are using measures 30" x 12" x 18". Right? The substrate looked like it was deep enough for plants after the first bag (at least 2 inches). Am I right? What size bag was that?

    • @ThePlantedTankTV
      @ThePlantedTankTV  4 роки тому

      No 2 inches isn't anywhere near enough. Especially for bigger plants. Aquasoil isn't heavy enough. You need a minimum of 3 inches. I like to have 3 inches in the from and slope up to 4-5 inches in the back

    • @thomasashe2681
      @thomasashe2681 4 роки тому +1

      Aquarium gravel that is small enough and safe enough for the type of fish that I want to get and suitable for plants is too expensive.

    • @ThePlantedTankTV
      @ThePlantedTankTV  4 роки тому

      @@thomasashe2681 yeah it's pretty expensive. You can find fluval stratum at Petco for around 40-45$ per 17.6lb bag. I use almost two whole bags. Deep substrates are really beneficial for planted aquariums. A lot of people talk about anaerobic conditions but plant roots produce oxygen so its literally impossible for it to go anaerobic. ✌

    Can you tell me how you cycle your tank?

    • @ThePlantedTankTV
      @ThePlantedTankTV  4 роки тому +1

      I dont. Lol I never cycle my tanks. There's no need to with planted aquariums. Unless you are using a substrate that leaches a bunch of ammonia. Ammonia is the preferred source of nitrogen for aquatic plants so it get consumed rather quickly if you start with some nice healthy plants. Hope that helps.
