    Awesome tank! I've been a aquarium enthusiast for many years. My newest 20gal hasn't had any water changes in over 1yr, has 40-45 fish, 1 hob with my own altered cartridges, 1 air stone and live plants. I only add water when needed. I've had less problems all around with no water changes than I did when i constantly changed the water. Once the tanks ecosystem is established it's almost maintenance free. There's too many "aquarium gods" out there that try to force their beliefs on others and also boot people from groups due to no water changes etc.

    “Could be better.”.. spoken like. True perfectionist. Your tank is perfect! Your plants are amazing and your fish are happy and healthy! Your tank could NOT be better! One day I hope to be able to keep such a beautiful healthy slice of nature in a tank! ❤ and you have an under gravel filter- with plants??!? I am new to this hobby- started last October 2022- it’s May 2023 and I have 3 tanks set up and 3 empty tanks waiting while I convert my dining room to my fish room. I purchased an under gravel filter and a couple aquarium co-op sponge filters (❤ them) for one of my 20 long -then I realized I use dirt and sand! Lol. Please make a video on how you set up planted tanks with underwater filers .. nice gravel - very natural looking. I don’t like black gravel but I did use in one tank because I bought fluval plant substrate. I tried to add Acapulco of sand and now my beta has black and white sand gravel. Yuck.

    The 29 is a great size, but limited long term in what you can keep. I recommend a 40b every time over a 29 just for that reason. However, I do have a soft spot for the size. It's a really great showcase tank for some of the smaller fish. It's the same reason I really like my 45 tall, even though it's so hard to work on compared to my "standard" tanks.

    I noticed you have a lot of filtration. Im running a fluval flex *15* gallon. Run a 500~ish gph pump that is adjustable in 20% increminents with about 5-6x the bio media the sump came with, also have a massive bag of bio balls in the second chamber and some ammonia reducing mechanical media. I have 10 kuhlis, 1 clown pleco, 2 chili rasboras, 2 celestial rasboras, 8 red eye tetras, 5 glo danios, 1 betta, 15 orange shrimp, 5 amano shrimp, and 6 nerite snails. The tank also is heavily planted and i have a pound of crushed coral in the sump. I am doing 30-40% water changes per week/week and a hald. With all of that said, i was REALLY struggling before i got the stronger pump and revised the filter media. Im pretty sure my tank was basically not cycled with all of the fish minus the shrimp. Once i made the changes in two weeks i was fully cycled 7,0ph

    • @Thedevontree
      @Thedevontree  Рік тому

      cool looking setup! I'm re-thinking everything after testing and having high nitrate. Cycling is time and having the right media. Plus bacteria supplements. I think ideally mechanical and biological would be separate systems, but hay. I think biological should be very low flow through dense media. All this has just dawned on me in the last day or two. Checkout the confession video I just posted.

    I'm not sure that you are that much overstocked because your fish are small. I have a 29 gallon as well, and I have 22 fish in it, plus 3 Amano shrimp, plus about 10 cherry shrimp and according to the metric in AqAdvisor, I am not overstocked. I don't have a filter canister, or undergravel filter; just a hang-on-back filter. I do weekly maintenance; I vacuum and change about 10% of the water weekly. I rarely lose fish in that aquarium.

    • @Thedevontree
      @Thedevontree  Рік тому

      Hay Fox thank you for the comment.
      I probably have 35-40 or so fish small ones mostly tetra and tons of shrimp.
      I think the under gravel plays a big part with water quality. I know it’s not really good for the plants roots. I think in time it does get better for planted tanks. I’ve never done a water change. But I definitely would if I saw the fish being in trouble, I have noticed running the air Stone seems to be a part of the equation to.
      I’m going to put a video upof just the tank without me standing in front of it, so hopefully more of the fish come out maybe like a five minute video or something check it out.

  • @AQUAGUYUK
    @AQUAGUYUK Рік тому

    This is over stocked and a filter on a timer really is not good as and bacteria will die also the water change is to add as well as remove the fish you have in the tank are hardy fish but guppies will end up with arched backs due to lack of minerals and calcium never ever leave a tank more than 6 months without change most aquarist prefer 15% weekly and this ensures longevity the smaller the tank the more toxicity will be apparent

      Even fish in the wild become stunted when ponds and rivers get overstocked. Idk where people get the idea fish normally live packed in tanks. I don't think the tank is overstocked either, but fish should definitely be kept in bigger tanks. The fish should have a large enough body of water for it to be stable and have enough room to hide and swim around.
