Hey Will! After watching these videos and a literal coin flip I purchased the F1 DD1 Wheel Base Package last night! I agree with so much out of these videos! I am happy about the choice as Fanatec Ecosystem is very nice and will be able to utilize my V3 inverted into the wheelbase and can free up a USB on my PC! Keep doing what you're doing! Love it!
He makes a great point about you tubers getting better customer service. Can't begin to think about how many times I've made a costly purchase because a reviewer said the customer support is phenomenal only to find that there really is no customer support unless you're being influenced for a good review.
Yeah it’s certainly a grey area. As this channel grows and gains more notoriety it’s certainly something I have to be aware of and consider in my reviews.
Just a minor correction to the amazing review Only the SC Ultimate comes with the premium E-Stop. Sport and Pro have simple, plastic E-Stop boxes without a power button and the Ultimate version can be bought for 109-129€ (price varies between resellers). Otherwise it's a fantastic and thorough review and I can't wait for the next parts to make my decision between DD and SC2 next month.
Great review as always. I was thinking the same thing about the pins. If say 4 years from now a regular customer snaps a pin there is always that pause of concern “dang how to I prove I didn’t damage it”? Love their products obviously as I do the affiliate sales as well, but it’s certainly a point of concern considering the competition like Simucube, Accuforce etc doesn’t have this issue and zero flex and easier quick release systems to use. Looking forward to your next vids.
I agree, those snapping pins are absolutely unacceptable at this price range, and gives you pause to concern with every wheel and base from them... Other manufacturers don't have this problem. SMH

I showed the retention screw in the video, but for me at least it didn’t make any difference to the flex. Other say it helped though. There’s a few aftermarket solutions available to reduce the flex, Barry from SRG reviewer one called the Z-Ring. He seemed impressed but I’d be concerned about the impact it may have on the warranty of your wheels if you modify the QR.

Great video Will thank you. I recently upgraded my rig to an 8020 style and now have my DD1 mounted using the sim-lab fanatec side mount brackets (Barry reviewed this also) and can say without a shadow of a doubt that it is MASSIVE improvement fidelity wise over bottom mounting. I know you touched on there being a slight loss of fidelity compared to the Simucube so I wonder if this accounts for the difference. Be interested to hear your thoughts on this and am looking forward to Pt2 :)
I have my Simucube mounted in the same way so it couldn’t be that, but yes I agree the rig makes a huge difference. I’m currently waiting for my 8020 rig to arrive.
Coming back to the flex topic. I am very happy with my Fanatec gear. However I am also experiencing flex on my CSW2.5 and Formula V2 wheel. Fanatec uses aluminium quick connect hubs, cost probably would go up considerilly using more rugged materials. Aluminium will wear out with any kind of flex. The used materials are an understable cost versus quality design choice. I now decided to use the fixing bolt every time I swap wheels to hopefully increase the durability of the steering wheel set. What I find a little disturbing though is that Fanatec (CEO as mentioned in this videa) apparently knows about the flexing issues and choose a symptom solution of making the pin connections kind of flexible rather than bump up their machining tolerances. @@PandorusFightStick Agree with you i'm selling my DD1 and buying a SC2. The quick release is the main issue for me, it's badly designed making it a pain to have to pull wheels off. The CSW 2.5 is a great wheel for the money but the podium stuff is not at the quality level it should be for the price, so I will have to take a loss on selling the DD1 and get a real DD setup.

You should look into the Z-Ring QR mod for the fanatec DD. Mine had some flex and I was able to have a buddy print me 2 of these so I have one as a spare and it makes at least in my case a big difference.
I’m a little concerned about the potential warranty implications should anything happen to the wheel like snapped pins when using a modified QR. but if FANATEC release something similar I’ll definitely try it. It looked like it helped in Barry’s review.

No because it’s all equally important. People who skip over stuff miss stuff and end up wasting hours of my time every day asking questions that are already covered in the video.
Even if FANATEC were paying for sponsorship spots I wouldn’t allow it on videos about their own products. That would be a massive conflict of interest. As I said in the previous video, both FANATEC and Simucube provided the equipment for review. I’m not sponsored by either brand, or any other brand for that matter. Also as others have said customer service isn’t worth bothering. When u do get a reply it used to be Make a film🤣 post it back wait a month and repeat a week later I just gave up
Would the podium hub be better than this club sport hub though? fanatec.com/us-en/steering-wheels/podium-hub
Best to avoid it if possible. I have mine sitting elevated on the cockpit
@@boostedmedia I use it on mine too, its definately less flexy, also you wont need to deal with the tightening screw again!
I just got my DD2. The Z-ring was the first thing I bought to make sure I had it the day my DD2 arrived. I installed it and have not noticed any flex in my quick release.
That flex for this wheel base seems unacceptable to me... I don't recall seeing this flex on the v2.5 bases Ive used
Let me know when you want to sell this one too in a year 🤣🤣🤣
I have a video up now of the unboxing and fitting of your old wheel setup.
QR problem will be adressed with a 300$ upgrade
Warning!!!!! if you plan to order from Fanatec and you live in the US beware Fedex falsified my signature on my delivery(which I never recieved pedals)Fanatec will only use Fedex in the US, You have been warned.
Just a WARNING to my fellow Sim racers.............
The main part starts at 3.00 min if you dont want to listen to the pre-amble, sorry Will I like your channel, but for those who are time poor any chance of time stamps.
No because it’s all equally important. People who skip over stuff miss stuff and end up wasting hours of my time every day asking questions that are already covered in the video.
Fanatec products are good but the customer service is terrible and the response is dismal
Are you being sponsored by Fanatec?
No
Even if FANATEC were paying for sponsorship spots I wouldn’t allow it on videos about their own products. That would be a massive conflict of interest. As I said in the previous video, both FANATEC and Simucube provided the equipment for review. I’m not sponsored by either brand, or any other brand for that matter.
The channel makes money from Adsense, affiliate links and donations/memberships. That’s it.
@@boostedmedia Thanks for answering. I didn't see the mentioned one, but I appreciate your videos and that's exactly the reason why I'm asking.
All good mate. I’d never ever let a brand sponsor or pay for their own review video. I actually did a video about 6 months ago explaining my position on “reviews” and “endorsements”. :)
My dd2 and formula v2 limited 2019 has zero flex.
