As an Engineer and Electrician, I built my own rig using a skyline R33 bucket seat & E brake & bought a cheap frame but chopped it up & made it better, wired the circle button to a plug for the E brake then added the wheel pedals & shifter, I hid all of the wires inside the frame pipes & made sure it has adjustments, I love it & do not at all fancy buying a flash pre built one.
You should do more of these reviews if possible. Very interessting and enjoyable to watch not to mention that i am sure that you would find some hidden gems among those cheap cockpits. Vivo cockpit is one of those gems imo.
I have a $299 vivo cockpit for almost a year now and it’s been a solid upgrade for the price. $50 more dollars I was able to mount my monitor directly to the rig for even more immersion.
lol an armchair and the nlr wheel stand was amazing for years for me until I tried a proper rig with peripherals haha, then went sim lab route (with goodies) and am so satisfied. Another banger man, I like the change up in content! ( maybe because it’s the first one I don’t feel the need to spend money after watching :) ). Hope you’re well
lol Thats always good for the bank balance! If you've gone Sim Lab then you'll be sorted for life mate, same as any profile rig. Yes I'm all good thanks and same to you! :D
I am still using my NLR Wheel stand 2.0 with the full cockpit conversion GT Seat Addon - haven't regretted it a bit, I have just recently grabbed GT omega's monitor stand which is in place now ready for my upcoming 49" super ultrawide monitor, fun times indeed. Anything that brings new simmers to the market is all good I say.
Nice to see a cheaper rig tested, not all of us have the cash or room for a full rig, I only have a NLR wheel stand 2 & G923, ACC, AMS2, Dirt rally2 etc. Started off with GP1 & Thrustmaster wheel years ago
I do try to cover all options but it's rare the really low end stuff comes my way and there's a lot of Chinese tat out there that just shouldn't be considered.
Looks actually pretty decent for a non dd and maybe even alittle peice of wood jammed under the pedal deck might help out alot, plus with it being so cheap if the poor design quality or whatever on the side bothers u u could prob just paint on it and do ur own if ur artistic.
Good vid. I started with an openwheler cheap cockpit, it was a little more than this but still pretty cheap. I really liked it for what it was - customer service from them was excellent too. I got a VRS DD and had upgraded the openwheeler with the DD mount kit, it wasn't perfect and had a little flex but not bad at all. I ended up swapping to an actual rig, but the openwheeler did great for a while.
You might be able to stiffen up those trays by getting some shims and jamming them on the side without the screw clamp. Shouldn't look too bad if you get some of the black composite ones since it would be down below sight-lines of the super fancy red painted panels.
I have one of the Hottoby cockpits that's now marketed as a flight sim cockpit. They offered a seat mounting section for it, so I ordered that. Once all bolted together properly, it's quite solid. Only downside is that you have to source your own seat. It's adjustability is nearly unlimited since everything can adjust separate of everything else. The cockpits like in this review leave a lot to be desired when it comes to adjustments....
@@aaronthomas6155 Oh I got mine with a black racing seat all for £250, wasn't expecting much for that price but I don't see why I'd need to spend more. It's great.
I am rocking my T150 from 2014ish. It is clamped to my desk, but the clamp screw has broken. The pedals are taped to a laptop box. I still have so much fun with it on a regular basis, and recently got more use out of it with the recent acquisition of a HTC Vive from 2016ish. :)
Karl great review btw, what tends to happen is that major brands who cannot shift enough stock let other distributors rebrand and at a massive reduction of the cost! But, as for warranty it can be limited, but essentially you could be getting a bargain!
If you play in VR or use a wall-mounted monitor like you have. You could use the monitor arms in the position you have and use clamps or bolts to hold the end of the pedal plate and prevent the flex.
My sim rig cost be about 600$ total. my wheel is a DD Cammus C5 for 310$ used G29 pedels for 50$ and the Gpro hub to use them standalone was 45$. Ebay gated shifter and ebay handbrake for 50$ each. I use an older TV i got for free off of facebook and my stand is made of 2x4s from my barn and an old padded broken rocking chair i cut the legs off. she races like any other non motion sim. you CAN game on a budget but there is a point where going for the cheaper option can be bad for preformance. Do your research on each part and make an informed decision. dont just shoot for the most expensive or most cheap option.
It's better when the monitor stand is separate from the rig. It can be moved closer or farther. Split design is less bulky, and eliminate vibrations on the monitor.
Sure it wobbles! That's called "motion platform" for us that are not spending 10k on a racing sim setup. I might get this. I own a welder I can re-enforce it.
i have a gt omega prime i love it i got my son a small cheap ebay rig. it was a wheel stand turned into a full rig they sell the stand and seat pieces. it not bad but i would use anything 5mn or more because its shakey. it was only like 150 160 without a seat but it works.
Nice review! I am in the plans of buying a race setup. Won't be playing any serious and don't have a massive budget but I still want some "real" stuff and this one seem to be really good for my purpose. It looks pretty good and looks somewhat expensive like many other cheap things. But as always when on closer look and use you realize the price. I was thinking if it might be possible to cheaply modify the pedal stand to be more sturdy or solid? Maybe brace it so it don't budge down when pedals are pressed hard, idk.
It looks good!!? I have a cheap cockpit and I had to make steel anchors arms for the foot plate because of flexing. I have load cell hydraulic pedals and it was a necessity. But now after seeing this one I think I got ripped off even if I only spend $150 because this one looks way better then mine and it’s a Formula style which is what I want, currently I have a Touring cockpit. I couldn’t get an expensive cockpit after spending over $1k on my DD+wheel base clubsport F1 V2.5 wheel and pedals, my wife wouldn’t have been nice to me. 😢
Great reviews Karl.. So for a £400 budget for my 10 year old lad..and also myself .. what would you recomend?.... we use VR . so no screen support needed
Brother, I believe that the shifter mount arm may be better with the long side being used for the forward and backwards movement instead. could it be installed in that way?
i actually bought a cheap 150€ tubular rig from dardoo ( without seat ...) what is almost a copy of gt omega titan . 50mm stealtubes this thing is sturdy enough for my 8nm csl. way less flex than this one you shown
I used to own a playseat evolution. I upgraded to a sim lab gt1 pro. I think no one should ever buy one of these cheap flexible frames if they seriously want to race. They are genuinely chinese crap compared to an extrusion rig. It isnt just the flex that the issue, it is impossible to adjust these to where you want it and that ergonomically fits you. And the post gets in the way if you are using three pedals. The seat being flexible will make it almost impossible to be consistent on the brake, you really want a firm support for your lower back. I would buy this for a child that just wants to drive around in forza on a logitech, not for anything serious. Although when I have a child I will buy him/her an extrusion rig if they are interested in racing
The word "seriously" is exactly the one mate, this is more of a "toy" setup or for those that literally can't justify or have the money for anything else... it's till better than using a controller.
I wonder, can that L-bar on the shifter mount be reversed to reduce how much it sticks out? Also, (I'm assuming no) is the monitor stand adjustable to bring it closer?
Karl have you tested it the SIMETIK K1 or K3 sim rigs? Interested to see how they compare to some of the other rigs in the price range. Look the part but as we know looks can be deceiving
Having spent a total of £100 on a frame + seat (the seat is absolute trash, but the whoe setup is better than this) i find this all hard to swallow. (having said that i dont like the possition, and i use vr) IMO people should make their own *if they can* anything else is atleast 4x over price.
You're obviously new here! lol Did you see me show you how wobbly the wheel deck is? How much the pedal tray flexes and say how uncomfortable the seat is?!
i got a copy of the gt omega art for 250 including monitor stand and seat.. got a g pro (that i got for 600) and tlcms mounted to it and its way better than a play seat.. there are some issues with the pre drilled pedal tray but nothing that cant be addressed with some extra holes.. all in all the cheap rigs can be very good bang for buck if you do a lil research
Hey Karl great review as ever! Any recommendations on a decent entry level motion rig? I've seen some on Amazon which appear quite cheap but have quite shit reviews too 😂 I'm guessing you'll say Next Level?
Motion rigs are over priced for the experience. I've a DoF 3 axis platform. While it's real good, the price is still hard to justify. I recommend transducers if you aren't running them yet. Much better bang for buck and they enhance the driving experience more than you would think.
There's no such thing as to cheap some have made their own setups out of spare wood they had a cheap used car seat and a lot of them are better than the crap you can buy
Yes there definitely is! Some things are so cheap they do not function as indented, or last one or two uses before breaking.... thats too cheap and there's plenty of that on eBay, Amazon, Temu, Aliexpress, etc.
Proof you can still have fun even if your diwangus is a bit wobbly.
It's a feature not a bug.
I like this guy!

built my own aswell, not an engineer, made out of steel no flex cheaper than a logitech g29

Yes Karl!! pin ball machine in the man's cave is a must for us 40 plus'ers 😂
It sure is!! :D This is only a VPin but I've promised myself a real one for my 50th in a few years!
On this rig, id use a cable and couple of turn buckles to pull the deck towards the monitor stand, and eliminate the vertical bobbing
This looks like it could work for me, if there was some way of getting the seat more upright, or changed altogether. Thanks for sharing!
No problem 👍

playseat trophy is also great, playing with it now since a 1 year full fanatec setup and working perfect and comfort is amazing.

I little bracing would go a long way!
Another consideration for entry level…ASR 3, junkyard seat, VR (no monitor stand needed).
VR and "entry level" do not go hand in hand, for a good VR experience you need at least a RTX3080, better still a RTX4080 and comparable CPU.
@@KarlGoslingtrue. How about we compromise and trade VR for sitting in front of your TV on a table? 😂
A lumbar pillow would probably fix the bar thing. My GT Omega Titan came with one, but I don't use it cos the seat is perfect by itself.
Didnt come here expecting to see karls new diwangus but i cant complain.
Hey you just never know!
Diwangus, is a brand that Jimmy Broadbent would come up with!
I see so many ways to sturdy it up for next to nothing ro make it a tighter unit doesn't look to bad

Yeah a perfect example of where this sort or product fits in.
What did you use for a seat?
Put lock washers on the quick release for steering wheel will lock it down better
