Really good and detailed review Will. Especially the issue with regards to Inertia and interpolation. A lot of the feel is lost around the middle for DD wheels compared to belt driven wheels. Hopefully this addresses that issue and bring back the more natural feel that belts have.
The new driver/firmware is close to being a game changer. It feels a bit different but it is not entirely different. Mainly the load on the wheel when initiating turns is clearer and resistance is built up faster than with the previous version. What is astonishing is that I tested it with recent tracks with F3 and skip championship (Limerock GP / Classic) from last week. Within only a few laps I could do 500ms to 700ms faster lap times. That is a huge difference for this short track (F3 with a 43.5s time, Skip with a 59.6). So a double win: it is even more refined regarding FFB and you are potentially faster.
Awesome video, mate! Glad that this interpolation/reconstruction filter evens up things for the Podium DD wheels! It makes you wonder about those early reviews though... some crazy marketing BS displayed by fanboys or endorsed YTers...

Ok so is the First Drive video going to cover the difference between Driver 346 and older vs 352 for the DD bases? I saw the new Driver update on the fanatec blog this morning but haven’t updated yet as I’m getting over being ill the last few days. I always take what people say with a grain of salt but if you say it’s a massive difference/improvement I’ll take you at your word.
I’m very interested in this as well. Only had the wheelbase for a few weeks and have been using 346 exclusively. I spend most of my time in iRacing and I think the 60hz ffb has kinda skewed my first impressions somewhat so I’m looking forward to seeing how much the new force interpolation stuff can improve things. In your software video however you mentioned that the Fanatec baseline in the forum is a good starting point. However i see many people complaining that it nearly breaks their wrists and they set the base ffb to around 35. Would you still suggest to follow the Fanatec baseline with the new 352 drivers?

You said that setting ffb to hundred percent in sim is the mostly suggested option. I think it's not the best option in every way. One hundred percent ffb in sim can lead to distorted or clipping signal and some missing dynamic range. I think from sim to sim values around 70% are the best, so you get full dynamic range without clipping. Maybe you would check this out in a video somewhere in future. Thanks for this great video, i have to check the new drivers in the afternoon.
I agree with you there. I talked about that a lot in my “force feedback explained video” where I compared it to cranking up a preamp on a stereo to 100% and then having the volume low on the primary amp. Seems to depend on the sim though.
@@OhItsThat Got the new driver yesterday and i think it is a big step in the right direction. 👍 With 100% FFB i got clipping warning messages from sidekick app in assetto corsa. I'm now around 70% in assetto and i think somewhere near 45% in base. So i think somewhere near maximum ac ffb range now. But it's just my 2 cents.
Funny how I seriously was going to ask for the ITM Mode on the OLED of the DD, and BOOM they release a new driver and a new FanaLab version xD Great Video again :)
The ITM mode for the bases isn't quite ready yet, but soon you will be able to display two separate telemetry pages on the wheel base and the Button Module Endurance.
Well certainly don’t have a dd wheel but probably should keep tweaking my FFB (it’s an eternal game of cat and mouse when you don’t exactly know what you’re meant to be feeling let me tell you 😅), and of course raceroom just had a fairly substantial update for some cars to boot
There isn't a significant performance change between 334 and 335. I suggest you update to the 352 beta, which is what Will is using in this video, and ensure that both the wheel base and motor firmwares are updated. This new driver and firmware package is a significant improvement for all Podium bases.
OH DEAR.....you see 2 devices listed, because one represents the motor firmware, the other represents the base firmware. It needs this to be able to update motor firmware via driver installer.
I find the settings in the Fanny forums to be outdated and pretty much useless for the DD2. Only using it with F1 but thinking about getting RaceRoom as I didn't renew iRacing . That notchy feeling...is that clipping?
Yeah it’s not clipping. It’s because raceroom uses canned effects I think. Talked about it in my Force Feedback Explained video. I actually spoke to FANATEC last night about updating the forums and potentially even including the baseline profiles in the driver/fanalab so they can be easily selected or even loaded automatically when the game is detected
The settings on the forum are still relevant and still the recommended place to start, but they will be changed to suit the new Tuning Menu features soon.
@@DomB_Fanatec its hard to get the right feel especially when starting a new game like F1, you have all the settings in the game and then all the settings for the wheel. What would be good is to have a combined game setting and wheel setting for newbies ...would be nice
hello guys. i;ve have some problems and i wanna ask if someone else have the same issue. for no reason my wheel (dd1 + porsche rim) is frezzing out. till now it;s happened 3 times in 3 weeks. i had to unplug the dd1 from power ( the little white buton from behind didnt work) anyone had this issue? thanks you guys.

Yep I still use that as a baseline and adjust to taste with the interpolation filter set to around 5

No you can adjust the filter in the driver without fanalab installed.

Will Sutton sounds more like a low-quality/unfiltered ffb signal, clipping would mean the ffb is being sent a signal stronger than the base can output
