Good morning sir! I had an ACL injury last 3 years, i couldn't go for a surgery due to financial problems, i couldn't afford to go to an ACL surgery. It has been hell for me sir, will i have arthritis in the future, if i don't go for a surgery?

Had ACL Surgery (patellar graft) 18 months ago. Lot’s of pain when I am sitting especially in a car. Knee feels better when moving, standing, & walking. Lifting weights at gym feels great as long as I don’t overdue it. I’ve accepted that I will probably always have some pain. Just staying positive and controlling the health of my body around the new graft. Good luck to the rest of the ACL folk. ✌️

Guess I drew the short straw! I had a very successful ACL surgery 12 years ago and have been very active since. I started feeling stiffness and pain in the surgery knee several months ago that has been persistent and affecting my ability to do any type of plyometric/speed/agility type exercises without pain. I finally went to see my sports MD. Interestingly, the radiologist concluded no signs of arthritis. But when I spoke to the sports MD, he says he’s starting to see early signs of post traumatic arthritis in my surgery knee. Something about fissures? And something else. I don’t know I couldn’t tell. But he says my symptoms are consistent with arthritis which is a BUMMER as I’m only 33. But gosh, did this really make me feel old! Lol! Got any advice for me? What should I expect down the road? Knee replacement? 😂😭

I’m 33 years old and on my third ACL graft. The first one i was 19 and they used a cadaver it lasted about 5 years until someone took me out in softball on purpose. The second one was also a cadaver 2 years after i had my son their wasn’t an injury to speak of but i only done a couple weeks of PT i think that was an issue. Finally the last one was done at MU in Columbia ,mo. I have to have a bone graft first they drilled bone out of my femur up by my hip...VERY PAINFUL! Worse that ACL surgery. So now I’m about 4 months out and my knee is much more stable. This time they took muscle off my quad on top to use as a graft. However I’m having a lot of pain in my calf muscle and my shin and I’m not sure why. If you could help me in understanding or know what questions to ask i would greatly appreciate it.

Hey! I am 22 years old and have had an ACL surgery in each knee and have had a meniscectomy in each knee as well (5 surgeries in 5 years). My first surgery was in 2014 and my most recent one was in 2018. I am beginning to get concerned because now both of my knees sound like they crunch/grind when I try to stand up from a squat that is below parallel. Do you think this could be the beginning of arthritis? Or do you know of any other explanation for this? I don't have much pain except when I do something that requires deep knee flexion. Is it important that I see someone about it now before it so that it does not get worse?

I feel stabbing pain in the tibia and the medial meniscus. The areas feel stiff constantly and it flares up often. I got an acl reconstruction and a bucket handle tear medial meniscus repair almost 20 years ago. Been dealing with the pain here and there since I got the surgery. And the knee tweaks. Moves slightly. Even though I got the acl reconstruction. Which uses part of my patellar tendon as a donor for the acl.I can't even kneel on a solid floor or carpet. Without it being sensitive or hurting due to it. It is the experience that I've had since. Also my doctor adviced me not to get an operation on the longitudinal tear on the meniscus on my other knee. And he told me that 16 years ago. Which also hurts here and there.

I had my ACL and meniscus surgery a year ago using my hamstring graft. My extension is not 100 percent there and my knee is in mild tolerable pain everyday. It also swells up everyday. You could slightly see my knee a little more swollen than my normal left knee. It not drastically swollen red or anything like that. I can feel it super swollen inside. When my knee sells up it bends and it is super hard to get my extension when i stretch. When I sit in class for example and I get up after 20 minutes of sitting, it takes forever to get to my extension and end up limping for like five minutes until it goes back to "normal" (even though i do not have full extension yet) It does not hurt when my knees touch together when walking or doing exercises, but around my knee hurts. Lastly, I still cant be on my knees without uncomfortable slight pain for example like doing a pose for yoga.I also have femur and tibia bruising on the right side of my knee from my injury. Now question, Its been a year, do you think i have arthritis or should i keep doing my therapy and stretching? healing too 100 percent take time? is this normal pain? Thank you Dr Geier.
