Thanks Doctor for your concern, then I have a question. is the fibers that make up the ACL is going to be rebuild again after a while in case of partial ACL tear. or not. I mean if I have partial ACL tear for example a remaining of 20% of ACL, the lost part part 80% is going to be renewed after a while like any normal muscle tear with some resting and stretching training or what's gone is permanently lost
I partially torn my ACL last September. My doctor insisted to avoid surgery. 2 days ago i played again football. Luckily enough, no pain whatsovever and had really a good game. Of course I played more conservative than before my injury and my legs now at 34 feel more fragile, but who cares, I am just very happy to kick the ball again. Nothing is guaranteed, but I will continue playing.
@@dnaarif7041 I tried to strengthen my knee and when I reached a good state, went for football. 5 minutes into the game I suffered a second grade muscle injury, because my feet hadn’t played for so long. After one and half month I returned, did a very thorough warm up and the game went pretty well! I was quite happy on how my knee responded, but my level was ~ 70% of what it used to be before plus I didn’t take any risks.
I just suffered a partial acl tear. I am currently doing rehab to strengthen the muscles around my leg to help stabilize my knee. I've been out three weeks and am on track to be cleared to play within the month. For anyone suffering this diagnosis there is hope to train and rehab the knee to be back and better than ever.
+Dhoomie rabeh hello, Sorry I had not seen your reply. Since my injury I have come to a complete recovery to the extent that I can and have been participating at a very high level of soccer. For the past 4 years of my life I have been playing at a division 1 level in Kansas City and through rehab I was able to come back and continue playing at that level. Blessed to be able to continue to play at such a high level and will continue to strengthen my muscles to handle my injury.
+Dhoomie rabeh hello Sorry for the late reply. Since my injury I continued to do rehab to help stabilize my leg and for the past 4 months I have been playing soccer at the same level that I had before the injury. My leg has had no problem, my leg has been stable and I feel back to normal. If anything the injury has helped me take better care of my muscles and more aware of how to better my overall health. I hope this update helped. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the rehab, recovery or anything else.
Through an MRI I've been diagnosed with a partial to almost complete tear to the ACL, which occurred in a game of squash. It has been 17 months since I did it and only once through activity have I felt any signficant pain through the knee dislocating slightly when jumping off of a jetski and landing in the soft sand at an awkward angle. I was diagnosed within a week of tearing the ACL, but had to wait a year before I could get it seen to because of insurance reasons. Hence I have not played squash and recently had it checked with a new MRI. During the 17 months I have taken up weight-lifting with squats & biking but kept away from explosive movement sports (which I love) and the surgeon after comparing both MRIs and testing my knee stability says my knee is stable and has suggested that I don't receive surgery. He has sent me to a physiotherapist with the hope of strengthening and stablising the knee further in order to play squash again. I have my doubts, but I am wondering how well ACL knee braces work? It is clear that I can run, bike, jump and move quite well not even realising I have knee issues, but I am wondering about the strategy of just wearing a brace when playing squash (or other explosive sports). Is it possible this strategy will work? How well do the new knee braces of today replace the bio-mechanics of what an ACL does?
Apparently I tore my acl couple of days ago, and scheduled MRI in a few days. I had intense pain the moment it happened which disappeared within few minutes. Some swelling over the next 24 hours. Now able to walk straight, up and down stairs but don't feel like completely OK.
Hello Dr. David I am 22 year old male. I am cricketer and recently while in practice, during bowling run up, my knee collapsed while taking the jump. I went to a doctor and was given medicine for 10 days. But after observing NOT much improvement, I went for the MRI and the report says ✓"Complete tear with edema involving anterior cruciate ligament (grade 3 injury). Grade 1 sprain involving medical patellar retinaculum. ✓ Grade 2 meniscal injury (Intrasubstance tear / Meniscal degeneration) involving body of medical meniscus Grade 1 Meniscal degeneration involving anterior horn of lateral meniscus with menisco-capsular sprain ✓ Non-displaced fracture with adjacent marrow edema involving medical tibial condyle. Trabecualr fracture with adjacent marrow edema involving lateral femoral condyle, lateral and medical tibial condyle and tibial intercondylar region, predominantly in posterior aspect. ✓Mild knee joint effusion showing suprapatellar extension and synovial thickening. The doctor suggested surgery to fix this. Is there any non-surgical way to treat this the way I can again go back to field?
@DrDavidGeier have a partially torn ACL which I got playing soccer. It also came with a meniscus tear as it usually does. I'm 46. The reason I kept playing soccer was because all my life I played sports and I was a semi professional softball player. When I retired from softball I decided to play the next sport I loved the most. With this injury, and after 6 months of physiotherapy, I have decided not to have an operation, given that my knee is very stable and my age. I will certainly not play soccer again, but I'm still very active when it comes to sports. I run, I play "padel" which is a small version of tennis. Lately though, I feel that maybe I should've had surgery. I'm in good shape and very active so I have doubts my decision was correct. I know that for a young person there is no much thinking about it. But for me? I'm not that old though :D
I have a partial acl tear and my knee feels all right all day except when I'm sitting down or laying. The knee seems to be pretty stable but the pain while sleeping is very uncomfortable. Should I be doing rehab knee exercise?
I had the exact same scenario; however it was so stupid I used soft ground cleats (metal studs) in turf which caused the over-rotation when cutting. Only difference was I had the mcl just sprained, but it’s about 3 1/2 weeks now but I feel so much better, like I have pretty good knee flexion, and extension. But I’m trying to play in a couple days in another week for a rugby game again
I had a knee injury some 9 months ago, the pain elevated recently , and I got a MRI done. The report says I have a partial ACL tear and Medial Meniscus tear. I have been undergoing PT, but the knee doesn't feel good, a feel of uneasiness is always there. I'm a mountain biker, and a lot of jumps and sudden drops are a part of it! Please advise!
@@RitabrataPatra bro Did you consider getting acl repair surgery. For partial tear they repair the original ligament. Also did you get any relief in pain?
@@strikerash1227 hey mate, I haven't gone for surgery. My doctor tested my knee for laxity. It wasn't that lax . It was mildly lax. So he told me to not go for surgery and do physiotherapy. But the knee doesn't feel normal as it was before injury. I don't play football anymore. I do cycling and all other activities like hiking etc
I once had a partial tear (MRI confirmed) and played 3 years basketball on it with no problems. One day I tore it completely with a easy half speed jumpstop. It can be coincidence but I trained my hamstrings 2 days prior to the injury. It hurts like hell now. Nothing like the partial tear...
How is your knee bro? I also injured again after grade 1.. but i haven't done MRI this time!! I have tight knee brac and bandage while playing, but still my knee pops.. what is your condition
I tore my Acl about 2 and a half months ago they say i have no more fibers left but guess what I have been doing therapy and praying a lot i have no shifting in my knee I can run and get on the elliptical I am 55 years of age.. before my injury I was lifting heavy weights and walking 3 miles 3-4 times a week time for me to get back to working out!!! thank you love when you said as long as your knee is stable even if you have no fibers left thats me!!! Yay!! Oh Ya No Surgery !!! what do you think about that doctor love your video!!
It depends on the type of sport that u wanna play there is no problems with acl cutting in doing the normal activity or playing some sport like liftting workout the problem is gust in som sports like soccer that need running jumping shooting and fast changes in movement
+Dr. David Geier I received my MRI and my doctor told me that I have a partial ACL tear as well as my lateral meniscus has also suffered. Im going to see an orthopedic this DEC and what are the types of surgery that may be offered to me?
That's exactly like my case.I had partian ACL torn and lateral meniscus injury. I got surgery a week ago for 2 reasons. Firstly because surgery might not be very usefull when I'm getting older by the way I'm 30 now. Secondly I was feeling pain while standing for long time and I twisted my knee servral times after first injury so that made me quit football and I'm really eager to play again efficiently .
@@hemnm1381 how did ur injury go? i just had mri results low grade partially torn acl, with rest of acl intact, low grade partially torn lateral meniscus... NYU surgeon said no surgery since i just turned 25 he thinks im young and i can heal 6-8 weeks of rehab.. i lost all my quad muscles after 1.5 weeks of pt im gaining back the strength but im scared ill waste 6-8 weeks of pt just to get surgery. Should i get the surgery? or wait.. Im a mma fighter and i hurt myself in wrestling .. NO clue what to do
I have ACL tear but as I don't have instability while walking and as per doctor suggestions they insisted to get physiotherapy 2 months then presently I am in 7th week of rehab. My question is whether ACL tear which has no pain and swelling on knee can be cured conservatively and it can attach normally with medicines
I had a partial ACL and MCL injury (according to MRI) during a football match about 15 months ago. My doctor advised against surgery suggesting that it is less than 50% ligament tear. Minuscus was unharmed during MRI. Since then, I have done physio exercises and did not play football for 8 months. Right now I play with my knee cap on. My knee does not give away while playing but it is not the same as before. I mean, I can run and kick but can not kick long balls and power shots like before. As I am thirty right now, I feel it is better to have a surgery now itself than to prolong. Is it a better idea to go for surgery?
I have an ACL tear according to my MRI report it's grade 1.... It's been two years and I haven't gone for any surgery and I still play football but the only issue is after playing or practice my knee gets swollen not much but still and it hurts a little, feels like something is stopping me from bending my knee is it possible that someway I can resolve this swelling issue?
What should I do about a separation of my AC Joint and Collarbone that I did in 2002 while playing basketball that I was supposed to have surgery on but never did and to this day my shoulder is still sore and you can see where my left shoulder sags below my right one? I wonder if Surgery would be needed and if so how long would I be on the shelf for. In 1996 I suffered a hairline tear of my Right ACL and there would be times I couldn't put any weight on then! But recently I have been having some swelling there in the mornings when I wake up and I wonder what might be causing it? Thanks for your time and I hope that I didn't innadate you or bore you to tears with my questions,
I have partial ACL and TCL, my doctor said no need for surgery as long I am can bend and extent my knee and it didn't buckle while walking or even suffers swelling .but I can't run so far
Thank u Dr. David Geier. here i would shown u my MRI report. 1. Interstitial tear of ACL 2. Modarate to large joint effusion. 3. microfracture in both condyles of tibia. Now my ques is, Can i play football as before?, if yes How long need for rehab? Thanks..
My diagnosis says 75% tear and i only got it after I injured my knee a 2nd time after 2 years. The first time when I injured myself, it was extremely painful and took almost an year to regain confidence and strength to do normal things and even then my knee gave out randomly, but not that often. But it was not that painful. The 2nd time i was playing basketball and an oaf jumped right on my knee, and it didn't hurt as much in the heat of the game, but as I cooked down later, i knew something was up. Saw my orthopaedic and got an MRI after a month of anti inflammatories. During this time my knee went back to being somewhat normal. I was walking just fine and could even jump rope. Now it does pain when temperature drops below 10 deg C. But I've decided for now not to go under the knife and do as much as possible to avoid it. I'll even bear the mild discomfort and pain to retain my original parts. Plus gave up sports that posed a threat to my knee like soccer, basketball, badminton etc. Just sticking to my evening walks and a moderate diet. I'll start weight training shortly as well, and try to avoid legs for now.
@Ajay Pant I'm alright. Didn't go for it afterall. Just avoid sports and other risky stuff. Even did gym for 4 months in between. Was able to start doing decent weights after some time. So it's not a problem if explosive and lateral movements are limited.
@devton8679 it's fine I would say. No pain or feeling of giving away, if I don't do anything stupid. I can run I'm straight lines. Like on a tread mill. I can do leg presses and other exercises. It pains sometimes, just a little if it's cold. Otherwise it's going good. But don't extrapolate my experience to yours. Everyone has a different physiology. Listen to what your body needs.
I recently received a partial ACL tear about a month ago and it feels unstable. I can walk alright and I can dance a little bit here and there. The doctors said I might not need surgery because something about the liquid vessels or something like that from the ACL. I want to know if which one is faster the surgery or the rehab?
Dr. David Geier 2 weeks ago i had an accident while riding motorbike, I can't walk MRI report shows ACL partial tear, doctor said no need surgery and applied cast on my leg, please suggest some foods to early recovery. thanks for your services and studies as act of kindness
I am with partial acl intestial tear and grade 2 sprain In LCL in MRI I can't able put weight since injury doctor suggest to keep in rest there no improvement since 5 weeks give me a suggestion
I had a meniscus tear surgery done... But i also had a partial acl tear but that couldn't be surgerically treated because i was only 16 year old.... And i have been playing sports for two years now since my surgery by regularly doing some excercises but recently a lot of time my knee is just giving away and twisting.... And thats causing me a lot of problem... So can my knee be treated in any way? If so then please do tell me
Hello Dr. Geier! I had a complete tear of my ACL during the martial arts training, and my doctor suggested that I don't need to rush into acl reconstruction and rather have arthroscopically removal of my ACL stump and do physical therapy in order to build muscles around my injured knee and that it will have a good chance to give a full compensation of the lack of ACL. Have you heard of the patients that didn't go through the ACL reconstruction and could regain their sports abilities as were prior the injury?
+Gregory Bolshak Some people don't have instability after they begin strength and motion. Activity level can also play a role in deciding whether to have surgery. Good luck!
I have acl grade 3 injury, what should i prefer rehab or surgery. I dont get any pain after running, but sometime leg exercise cause pain and swelling. But it gets fine after resting and applying cold wraps.
i had this motorbike accident 3 years ago n because of that I tore my acl partially (about 30%). I got the surgery a couple of months after to remove the torn ligament but my surgeon said the I didn't need any graft to replace the torn ligament so basically I've only got 70% of my acl left. the problem is eventhough I've never experienced any buckled knee, I still feel the pain all the time especially the left-right sides of my injured knee. what should I do? should I consider another surgery to put the graft in?
I suffered a partial ACL tear while skateboarding in 2010 and I've had problems with it ever since, probably should have had the surgery but just can't afford to be off work that long, especially back then. I do still play hockey but that is pretty low impact on the knee. Started running in the gym a few months ago with success but this past weekend something happened and now it's hard to walk and there is swelling so here we go again lol
Doc! Just received MRI of posterior partial ACL and posterior partial meniscus tear. It’s been a month and I feel a bit more stable than the first few weeks. College soccer season is right around the corner. What would you recommend for the meniscus and especially the ACL? Would you suggest surgery.? Also would you say I can play soccer with a brace on?
why don't people talk about stem cell therapy more often. Many sports person like Rogerer Federer , steph curry, kobe bryant have had stem cell therapy and it turned out quite useful to them. Stem cell therapy is very effective in partial acl tears. So why don't you suggest that?
I have the same injury but mine happened during jujitsu at first they said it was an mcl sprain then i got an MRI then they seen i had a partial tear in the acl cant fully extend leg but i can almost fully bend knee still going to knee rehab pain in the mcl when bending knee and unbending knee might also be acl pain knee not the same need more rehab
Completely tore an acl and I’m having so many doubts about getting range of motion back can’t completely bent knee like before without discomfort large amounts of swelling and aches and pain while I walk I’m having surgery this October and was seeking people who has had this surgery. Will my knee ever go back to its original state after surgery and of course rehabilitation/ therapy will I ever have the functions I ounce had? How did others surgery’s go I tore my meniscus as well! I play sports basketball and I mountain bike. I want what I once had.

Will ACL show up in MRI after complete ACL reconstruction, I mean what should be the difference in MRI of two one of normal knee and other who undergo complete ACL reconstruction surgery???
i have a full ACL tear, as in i tore the damn thing in half. my life sucks, had surgery Jan 3 2018, it is now Feb 1 2018. I managed to get an almost 90 degree angle of flextion in my leg before the doc told me i needed to be in a brace for 3 months, my life sucks
hi Doctor David, I am suffering from partial ACL tear , and i have take a rest for one month and rejoin the office after one month . and Doctor advice me to walk minimum with warring brace. and i have started the Physiotherapy after 2 months . now it is almost 2 and half month , my leg are bending as per normal leg , but still i can not walk properly . how much more time it will take to stable my leg or it will be slightly damage forever

Hi Doctor.. how are you?? I already received yesterday my MRI result. And it says that I have severe,, almost complete tear of my ACL. We note a small ligamentous flap at the anterior intercondylar notch meausuring 7×11 mm with a signal similar to the ligament. With a mild complex sprain of the collateral ligament extreme and moderate of the internal collateral ligament severe patellofemoral chondropathy.. My meniscus normal no evidence of tearing. Is it possible that I will undergo an ACL surgery?? Thank you for this video Doctor.. more power.

Respected Doctor I have an High Grade ACL TEAR in my right knee. But I am able to walk, run and able to do all the basic day to day activities. So my questions is that does the stem procedure can solve my problem or should I go for surgery only. Thanks and Regards Mitin Udeshi Age 28
Could you suggest the possible recovery time for grade 2 tear of ACL and grade 1 injury of PCL and bucket handle tear of medial meniscus...I am unable to walk properly
Hello Dr Geier, I partially tore my ACL on the left knee during a basketball practice. We were doing ladders and when I turned, I twisted my left knee and couldn't stand and also couldn't walk properly for two weeks. The result shows that it is low - intermediate grade partial ACL tear from the reading on the MRI. My Dr advised me that surgery is not needed because partial tears heal.. He said that I only have to do a lot of therapy and regain the strength on my muscles in that particular area. But I was shocked because my knee really doesn't feel stable and my range of motion is limited. Most of the time, I shift my weight to the right side of my body because Im scared that I might slip and my left knee just gives out. Ive tested and tried to play basketball (shooting around and dribbling) And even that I can't do, my knee gave out and it did really hurt. What should I tell my Doctor? Should I tell him that I want to consider surgery because of how I feel regardless of his recommendation and the results? Or should I do a lot of rehab then request another MRI after one month see how it looks and go from there? I hope you can help me out so I can make a decision and can clarify some things regarding this injury. I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
in my MRI report-near, full thickness of ACL in its mid portion, buckling of pcl. Grade 2 tear of MCL Grade 1 signal in posterior horn of the medial meniscus i dont want to do surgery ,i can do the related exercise,no much paining ,feel to recover or heal.please guide me ,or it heal with time and exercise..?
Thank you for the video Doctor. I have a grade 1 acl tear which I hear is relatively uncommon. I have a brace but wonder what my abilities are? Can I still walk and what are some good physical therapy activities that I can do to help build up muscle strength in my knee?
hello..... my mri report says 1) chronic tear of the proximal and middle thirds of the ACL with mild fluid along the torn ligaments 2) radial tear involving posterior horn of the medical meniscus . 3) moderate joint effusion..... can u plz guide Wht these points mean.... is it partial tear of acl or full.....what shuld I do Nw...? kindly help me out..if u can send ur mail I'd I can even send u my report if u want to see it.. Does an ACL small partial tear ever heal without surgery? I've been referred to a specialist and my family doctor believes from my MRI results that only physiotherapy is required and doesn't think I will need surgery.
Thanks for the reply. Still waiting to hear from a specialist. I don't have all of the symptoms for ACL tear (ie. swelling). I can squat (one and two leg), run, climb stairs without feeling pain in that general area. My pain appears to be on the outside of the knee and starts after ~15 min of running on the track. It starts on the outside of the knee and into the top of the calf (fibula). Hurts most on picking up speed and coming to a quick stop.
Dr. David Geier I have partial acl tear I was resting 2 weeks and still can't wolk normally now I can straighten my leg and bend but can't put my weight on it
hi docter, I'm suffering with condromalacia patella over 3 years now. and I am at home test now since one year without work. coz I'm not comfortable to work with this. and my life stopped. over 2 years doing physical therapy but still the same. some docs says this will never recover. is that true? I did an arthroscopic surgery and PRP too. tried many injections too. but my left knee cap very loose. no fit. coming glass breaking noice when I bending it. or squatting. some docs are says better remove the knee cap. some are says I will not able to work hard. but I'm still walking properly with this. please tell me what should I do. I'm 35 years younger. played lots of sports and performed best in job life too. what do u think? can't I go back to my previous life?
I had a partial ACL tear in my right knee which was operated about four months ago. The injury happened three years ago. I was never an athlete but i started experiencing sudden knee pain and limited range of motion. Before the surgery i never really experienced knee buckling but i couldn't walk much. I'm currently in the 14th week post surgery and the pain is still there in the knee, more in the heel due to which I can't jog or walk for longer time. The other knee is painful too. It hurts after walking and achieving full knee flexion is painful. I consulted a family physician he said it is a pulled tendon, whereas my surgeon said that the other knee pains due to overuse. I took medicines but the pain has not subsided. I love to run but i am unable to walk😭 also, i am 19 years old. Please help. I hope You'll respond.

ACL started on me for 3 years and it locks up my knee. I would recommend having surgery even though I haven't had it yet since without surgery on me, it has gotten worse. The reason I haven't had surgery is because my family can't afford it and I'm stuck like this. I wish you luck and I feel your pain bro

Dear David, I had a partial acl tear about 6 months back and i started doing therapy from last two months. I am getting better but when i walk for long distance or play games like table tenis , i started getting pain. The summary of my MRI report is Partial acl tear, minimal knee joint effusion and popliteal cyst. My concern is what should be my way forward.

Same goes to me. Got partially torn ACL at september and gred 1 MCL. 30 now. Still affraid to play football. How was your condition now?
+Roberto Albuquerque that's fantastic. How's it going for you so far ?
Update on it?
+Dhoomie rabeh hello,
Sorry I had not seen your reply.
+Dhoomie rabeh hello
Sorry for the late reply.
+Roberto Albuquerque Glad to hear you're doing well!
The background music is loud and distracting. Otherwise a very informative video. 👍
You asked this question 5 yrs ago. Did you ever get an answer to it? I’m in the same situation now.

Hello Dr. David
I am 22 year old male. I am cricketer and recently while in practice, during bowling run up, my knee collapsed while taking the jump. I went to a doctor and was given medicine for 10 days. But after observing NOT much improvement, I went for the MRI and the report says
✓"Complete tear with edema involving anterior cruciate ligament (grade 3 injury). Grade 1 sprain involving medical patellar retinaculum.
✓ Grade 2 meniscal injury (Intrasubstance tear / Meniscal degeneration) involving body of medical meniscus
Grade 1 Meniscal degeneration involving anterior horn of lateral meniscus with menisco-capsular sprain
✓ Non-displaced fracture with adjacent marrow edema involving medical tibial condyle.
Thank you sir.

Should I be doing rehab knee exercise?
hi , did you take the surgery
You are a nice person, talk very nicely.

Brenda Golobe you can have bigger problems down the road if you opted out of surgery.

Hello Dr.

Hurts most on picking up speed and coming to a quick stop.

hi docter, I'm suffering with condromalacia patella over 3 years now. and I am at home test now since one year without work. coz I'm not comfortable to work with this. and my life stopped. over 2 years doing physical therapy but still the same. some docs says this will never recover. is that true?

What if my knee locks up is that most likely heading to surgery?
ACL started on me for 3 years and it locks up my knee. I would recommend having surgery even though I haven't had it yet since without surgery on me, it has gotten worse. The reason I haven't had surgery is because my family can't afford it and I'm stuck like this. I wish you luck and I feel your pain bro
