  • In this video Jason and Hayden demonstrate how to identify and correct a number of firearm malfunctions that you may run into on the range, or in a life and death situation.
NOTE: This video does not cover every aspect of malfunctions nor does it cover every possibility of each malfunction. It covers the most probable causes.
We will be breaking each malfunction down in its own video to discuss all of the potential causes.

Good to see someone explaining malfunctions! A very important aspect of shooting. The amount of times you see people at a public range do some really really unsafe things is when they get a click or the trigger is pinned back due to any of the others. Makes me shudder thinking about it!

Some malfunctions will catch you off guard. Had an M-60 malfunction. Feedback at the time is I should have dropped to the ground instead of standing there looking at all of the parts behind me dumbfounded. I consider it more of a catastrophic malfunction. Reminds me of NASA explaining a rocket explosion as an unscheduled disassembly. Some malfunctions might be to take cover before solving. I hope you can if you need to. Great video, as usual.

These are all really helpful points to learn. Another cause of Failure to Feed that wasn't discussed is due to improper spring tensions not matching up. In other words, if an extra strength recoil spring is installed, extra power mag springs need to be used as well. Otherwise, the stock mag springs will eventually fail to keep up with the increased slide velocity as the slide goes forward to chamber a round and the round will end up either under the slide, or worse, caught between the breach, nose up, and the feed ramp, blocking the chamber. Thanks for doing this, guys. It just might save a life.

amateurs do. My training was always to advance on the threat, when you drop your fear the other guy picks it up, the best way out is through.(This came mostly from Paul Cale, Australian Commando extreme close quarter combat instructor).
I would still like to see your drills for close quarter empty hand engagement to get to the weapon.

This is crazy ironic. I was just teaching my son about all this recently. Saving to my favorites to let him watch it to "continue his education". I had always taught my kids to point the firearm downrange and call out "malfunction" when they were younger. I feel they're old enough to learn to clear their own malfunctions now and this lets them see what I was explaining.

I have really have only seen 4 of those malfunctions. It was eye opening on the other types of malfunctions especially the slam fire malfunction because that is the one you would least expect and can do the most damage. I really like the sweeping method of the stove pipe malfunction, I have just racked it back and flipped it to the side but the sweeping method is truly a better method to keep you in the fight. I really enjoy the channel keep up the great education. You are making a difference.

Great video! I don’t hunk anyone thinks much about slam-fires. Shooters who either bathe the slide in lube or let solvent get into the firing pin channel will run greater risk as the gun gets dirtier and builds up more gunk. It also causes misfires such as light primer strikes.
One NRA course I went thru recommended pointing the gun in the “safest” direction, as the instructor acknowledged that there really was no truly safe direction. Take whatever precautions you can afford to take and don’t let things become casual or routine.

You have 3 concepts one if you’ve customized or changed parts that could be it. It could also be dirty. You could have also short stroked it. If you release the trigger after racking the slide and the trigger resets than you more than likely short stroked it. However, if the trigger does not reset, when released after the slide has been racked than that leads me to believe there’s some sort of mechanical issue with the trigger

    • @rocksolidhope
      @rocksolidhope 11 місяців тому +1

Same here! I honestly didn't know about this malfunction. I had heard of the other ones. It sent me down the rabbit hole of internet research lol What I found is it seems like its caused by a few different things: 1. the most common reason seems to be over oiling/lubing the gun which over time allows carbon, dust, etc. to build up in the firing pin channel which then causes the firing pin to be held in the forward position which then strikes the primer when you chamber a round causing a slamfire. 2. Improperly seated primer or an unexpectedly sensitive primer (in other words, bad ammo) 3. Catastrophic mechanical failure. Tends to be more common when you start swapping out stock parts with aftermarket, but it can happen on stock guns too. Any mechanical device is subject to potential failure. 4. There are other potential reasons but these appear to be the most common.
With modern firearms, if you're keeping the gun clean and maintained (periodically checking for defects, wear and tear) and buying good quality ammo, it's highly unlikely you'll have a slamfire. But it's still not a 0% chance unfortunately. You could still have a mechanical failure or get unlucky with a bad primer. It honestly has me a little on edge because in my state an AD or ND is an automatic felony charge that will be on your record, even if no one is injured.

You know, this reminds me of a used Springfield 1911 I bought a while back that had a bunch of “failures to extract”, causing stove pipes and if I can remember Correctly sometimes a double feed. Then one day I thought why I don’t I just check to see if my firing pin is dirty. Sure enough, it was filthy! I wiped it clean and no more malfunctions, but it’s kind of nerve racking to think I could have had a slam fire occur. Thank God I didn’t.

I've never understood the 'walk slowly and shoot' kind of thing. If someone is shooting at you and you're in an open space, wouldn't you sprint for cover or go prone, instead? Not to mention, it looks so gay. Cheers!

I run the same one, got it at Scottsdale GC
The reps were there and it came with the same holosun optic
I bet you got a coin 🪙 and some hearing protection 😁👍 too
