Lena, just wanted to thank you. I’m going into my 19th year of carrying a pistol, and every year I just barely pass our annual qualifications course. I stumbled across your videos and binge watched them over and over again every day for about a week. Went to the range today and I was a totally different shooter. I landed every round I shot from the 25 in the center mass. I use to always throw them low left from that distance, even missing the target completely sometimes. I’ve worked with several Firearms Instructors throughout the years, and what they tried correcting me on never really clicked. The way you explain things just makes sense to me. It’s like a light bulb went off for me. You’re an excellent teacher. Thanks again.

Gotta subscribe to it (120€ yearly, + inflation) then you pay each time you go(understandably so, renting the lane and pay for ammo and cleanup and target replacement) and then you pay for each course whenever there is one.
Also, the closest range from me is not very welcoming. Went there several time to shoot some 7.5 J pistol and honestly it felt like I was annoying them by just being there and asking for a lane.

Gabriele Magnabosco that’s crazy. In slovakia where I live I have our club range about 6 km far, club membership is 35 €/year. According Slovak laws it’s mandatory membership to be able to have long semiautomatic firearm (no waiting period). No need to become gun club member for own and carry short firearm or for hunters. Once you are club member, no other fees apply. And since I reload (also for rifle) I don’t have to pay crazy ammo prices on the shelf. On the other hand, becoming club member has huge advantage too for other reasons - lot of great and experienced guys will teach you with proper firearm manipulation and shooting techniques and for free!

Nope. Husbands should never teach their spouses how to shoot. Send them to the school of their choice, and if they are taught everything that you know, they will feel like they learned it on their own.
I've seen it so many times, where someone else that teaches/trains the same way as I do, and even uses the same words, can actually get them to listen. Same way for friends spouses, I can teach them the same thing as their husbands, but they listen to me. Don't try to understand, just live with it.

Reminder, as an avid martial artist, I have found that if you practice, practice as if it is real. So, you present the firearm, sight up to the target, finger on the trigger. Because when adrenaline hits and there is a target present, EVERYONE defaults to their muscle memory. You do not need to add a second because you aren't on the trigger. That's a second longer than we all would want for the target to be present. Get some fake rounds in caliber for your firearm and practice the pickup movement and go all the way through having pulled the trigger how ever many times. I like once. Have the best muscle memory for when it's time to present the firearm. Have a high calibur type of safety practices. Be without live ammo in the room you practice. Double and triple check the emptiness of the firearm. Try it out, own it for you. Be a master of it. Let you fuse with your protective measures in such a way that you do not have to think about it. A second too long on coming back to the trigger to pull it, can have very sad results. Don't even want to think about that.

I am a newbie and my wife and I are just getting into this for home defense. This style of drill is just what we needed before we go to the range and just start blasting rounds. It makes sense that the most important thing is to be familiar and comfortable with it first. I have been pushing these drills on my wife daily (sometimes with resistance) and it is working. But I found something today that might be good for a video for the newbie home defense people.
The power went out this evening and I had an idea... I got the pistol from its secure place, ensured it was clear and only had dummy rounds available, and handed it to my wife. I handed it to her and encouraged (insisted) that she take it and do the drills in the dark.
We spent this next hour picking it up and going through all the motions in complete darkness. Here is what I learned...
In the home defense scenario, it is likely that you keep the firearm (whatever it is) in your nightstand. The scenario is that you are awakened by the noise and reach for it in the dark. Simply going through these motions in the dark has made us much more comfortable with a pistol in the house I'm sure will make us more effective on the range as well.
Just my two cents. Great job with your videos and keep keeping it real for us normal folks. Thanks.

Since you're addressing total beginners I'm not sure you emphasized what 'clear' means enough. No ammo in the gun, in the magazines, on the table or anywhere within reach - and still treat the gun like it's loaded.

I've been shooting for 30 years and I always learn something too. Especially, from a pro like Lena. But I take gun safety super serious at the range. No one has the right to put other people's life in danger at the range. I've had to yell at some people a couple times. Standing there showing their spouse or friends how to shot and all the while they keep slinging the gun around pointing it down the shooting line. It should be totally safe for everyone to go shot.

My wife is a brand new shooter, I mean BRAND new, she has never even shot a gun yet. We started out with where the barrel should always be pointed, after I showed her what the barrel was. Moved on from there to what all the other parts are called, then basic handling and grip.
I left her this morning with the gun, an empty magazine, some snap caps and what to look for on UA-cam. She found you and your videos and I am SOOOO glad she did. I have watched you and your family on various shooting shows and I know she is going to be learning from the best.
So I get a picture today at work of her on the bed, the iPad with your video showing, the gun laying there, our dog, and her message was “Practicing”. I Love Her. When I got home from work she showed me the drills you shared in this video and I was VERY impressed. Last night she did not know anything about proper handling and safety. When she showed me the correct way to pick up a pistol from the table and her trigger finger was out and laying straight along the frame, I knew she was paying attention and learning from a pro.
She is going to go thru ALL the videos you have links to and is excited to be learning the safe, correct way to enjoy our sport. We will both be going to a formal class at a range soon and even though I have been shooting for a long time I am sure I will be learning something and becoming a better shooter too.
Keep up the good work, you are helping those are just learning as well as those of us, like me, with some years of bad habits and practices.
