This real world scenario actually happened to me. Three men and a woman all carrying camping machetes came into my home through the garage. My children were downstairs playing while I was folding laundry upstairs and I heard them both start screaming daddy hurry come down. I ran down stairs and I saw the intruders so I draw my handgun. As soon as they saw me they all ran out the door again. Fortunately my two children were unharmed and I didn’t have to use my gun on anyone. I thank God every single day for protecting me and my children from any evil that could have been done against us. The best outcome of this scenario was having my firearm on me and using it to end multiple threats without even firing a shot. Thank you for this. This video really hit home for me (no pun intended)
This scenerio in NYC got the homeowner put in jail for drawing a gun ON the criminal that was NOT armed and it was all on video.
The bad guy had video sunglasses on taking video the whole time, they were "chilling" in the garage, talking like they lived there, one guy said lets go in for a beer, walked in and the owner sat up from the chair and pulled his gun on them, they sued him and WON ...

I recently took a class and wasn't that all surprised to see that a lot of the guys renewing their license hadn't shot in a year. That is unacceptable to me. Perhaps its because I already have a dedicated training routine from BJJ and MMA, but I dry fire train daily and hit the range at least once per week and train. There is no way I am going to carry and not be prepared to hit my shots if I have to go lethal. I want my bad days at the range to be A zones so that they are A zones when SHTF.
😒If God's protection is all you needed from COVID, why didn't God protect you from anything else? And if the display of the weapon was the deterrent, why do you need to conceal the weapon?

@@markheinkel8247 something is better than nothing especially when you're in a hurry. As Frogman said, grab anything, a heavy candle, a frying pan, hell even a can of PAM and a lighter. Have something in your hand to provide some kind of defense. We don't know how things are going to turn out, but you have to give yourself the option to control the outcome.

@@frogmantactical yes sir..To be honest I was a crook for most of my life,,I never killed anybody or robbed a working man’s house or any crimes of moral ineptitude as is correct verbatim..Im lucky to be a life long Florida Native under our current governance….Matter of fact I just caught my first Felony at 40 urs old,,fleeing and eluding..O can’t own a firearm now but am grateful to have the opportunity to reclaim some of those rights once o take care of the courts next week…But I can tell you from experience that the visceral nature of those situations is spot on..Criminals rely on the normalcy bias and under-paced awareness and energy in the actions of their victims especially the shock factor of an ambush and you have a paralyzing nightmare in your reality…btw i was a truck driver came through Dallas..I love your state bro,,Deserts are beautiful,,the food is good and the city’s are huge!!!Long live Texas and the ol’ west!!!

Definitely! Unless I am sitting near my weapon I carry it with me to the shower, kitchen, garage etc.. Also, it's a good idea to have reinforced doors as main entry points. And to lock the door when you're showering or sleeping. It adds that extra second or two after you have heard something to get your mind in the game. I served 10 years in the Army. Shooting your weapon is 90% in the mind. Anyone can train and shoot like a champion. When face to face with an enemy combatant it's easy to forget everything if your mind isn't prepared.
Agree 100%. The critical fact remains that at the moment of engagement, when stress levels are off the charts, hope is not an appropriate course of action. All actions one takes from this point forward refer back to training; the autonomic responses that have been grooved in, by practiced repetition, into the subconscious. @@Seedsofreason
In the UK we've had a few cases of homeowners killing intruders. Tony Martin is one, and there was another guy whose name I forget who stabbed the burglar with a screwdriver. They both got arrested by the police, and Tony Martin ended up in prison. The UK courts *do not* respect homeowners' right to defend themselves, and always side with the criminal. It's sick, but it is what happens.

Well there is a reason for that. if there are no consequences then people would kill each other left and right. Imagine having someone over and having an argument. Go insane stab them to death and call them an intruder. It’s not about siding with criminals but also about keeping insane people in check. How many psycho’s would kill random people in their own homes and call them an “intruder”
@@Silverken What an odd comment. I thought it went without saying that it should only be condoned in a situation of genuine home invasion. Naturally, if people are stabbing people and pretending it was an intruder, they should be prosecuted.
So sick of the Court system, seems it's just a way to get slave labor for the state enterprises, instead of taking evil people and Politicians off the streets.
And how do you magically know if they are lying? Hard to get answers when one of the people are dead. Hope the forensic guys are competent...or even look at all.
They messed up when they went back into the home knowing there is an intruder. It is extremely hard to justify shooting an intruder in most states. I spent many years in the military as well as with the Department of Defense as a civilian. I had a friend that got home from the store and discovered an individual in his house. He confronted the guy disarmed him using his combatives knowledge and being a jiu jitsu fanatic lol (the intruder definitely picked the wrong home, my friend was an exemplary soldier that had 4 tours to Afghanistan at the time) anyway he ended up being arrested and was convicted for shooting the intruder. The prosecutor said that he should have never entered the house knowing there was an intruder inside. They could tell due to cameras on the neighbors house that he noticed upon his approach to the house that something was wrong. He lost his military career. He served 3 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. It was not considered self defense. Unless you are in an inescapable situation it's not self defense. I have weapons. I served in the military with 3 tours to Iraq. I have no hesitation with using deadly force if needed but I learned from my friend who passed away a few years ago that you have to know exactly what you are doing and determine whether the consequences are worth the action. If I can stop someone with non lethal means I will. But unfortunately if my loved ones are in danger prison is just where I'll be because I would never stand by and let anyone hurt my wife and kids. I have security stations throughout my home. I have both lethal and non lethal means available 24/7. Definitely be sure to have both and be smart about your decisions. The best home defense is prevention. Pay attention to your neighborhood. Pay attention to the people your kids know their friends families. Your neighbors visitors etc.. Most of the time home invasion crimes are done by someone you know or that knows about you through a connection of some sort. Don't let some loser take you away from the people you love and are willing to fight or die for.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in MI "Castle doctrine" allows you to defend your home regardless of where you are at when a break in occurs. You are justified in entering your home.
True but that only applies if theres no one in the house you need to protect. Etc. also waiting in the backyard is sketch af imo bc if the goal is to hurt you, you’re cornered. And moving to the front is sketch. Bc said intruder is probably gonna leave through the front causing another confrontation :P. So
It sounds to me like you live in a state where there is a duty to retreat. I don’t think the scenario you outlined would result in a conviction in Florida. We are a Stand Your Ground state, which is an extension of the Castle Doctrine.

I was in the regular Navy, and they taught me basic CQB. I think it's invaluable. Recently, I was privileged to meet a woman who already has a CCW permit. In a liberal town, that makes her a diamond in a goat's behind. If she sticks around long enough, I am going to teach her how to roll with me. Awesome videos, dude.

Great video, and thank you for taking the time to educate people. I served in the military, direct action, and wanted to share a few points to consider.
If you find yourself in this situation during the day or worse at night, you will not be yourself! Meaning, during threatening circumstances, your physiology and psychology will undergo several changes due to stress and adrenaline dump. The most common ones are an increased heart rate, elevated blood-pressure, increased breathing rate, or shortness of breath, shaking and/or muscle tightness. In addition, you’ll deal with time distortion, tunnel vision, increased anxiety and possible cognitive impairment (this is why some people freeze during combat).
These are just possible reactions as we all react differently during fight or flight situations. Training, experience, and personal resilience will certainly play a rule.
The range has a place but it’s static, and real life is not. I strongly encourage you to find a place to train in active scenarios. Get dry training laser kits and find the weaknesses in you, your family reactions to a threat, and your floor plan. Have your spouse wake you up at night, randomly, and see how you execute your plan. There are always consequences for using your sidearm. May the good Lord keep and protect you and your family 🙏🏻

So glad I found you guys what a blessing, I have had home invasion when I was actually 17 years old had 8 men break into my apartment, they had no weapons , but they broke my window came into my place to do harm to me , but I always had my bat and I took them all on at once and was able to throw them out the window they broke into , anyway just wanted to say thanks for you video and y’all are a blessing and bless you and may god always watches over you all 🙏
Hey Kimberly, thank you for sharing this undoubtedly true and riveting story. Throwing eight men out of a window while you were only equipped with a baseball bat shows just how capable we are as human beings.
Personally, my best is throwing 7 people out of the window, but your story has inspired me to train enough to ensure I can handle 8 when the time comes.

Seeing this video is why I ccw all the time in my home. Whether I'm doing yard work, doing work for my job, or sitting on the throne, it's with me. Having a dog who is very protective helps also because he acts as a tripwire. I run thru these possibilities in my head, going over how I would react and I hope I never have to use what I practice.
I'm about 45 seconds into the video and I'm going to go ahead and say the biggest mistake is going into your house instead of just calling the police and waiting outside unless you have a family member inside

I was just alarmed at how Brittany was so exposed in front of the window (shown at the end while in the phone calling the police) while a potential armed conflict could have happened outside of her scope of view inside the house. One important factor is that it’s your job to make sure your battle buddy understands at least some of what you know. I get it it’s his wife not a soldier, but covering yourself is easy to teach. Overall, this is an outstanding training tool. Thanks guys!

I like the idea about waiting outside and calling 9/11. Or at least waiting a decent interval. I feel like if someone was in the house, waiting in a corner with weapon trained, he really has the advantage... he will probably hear me coming and shoot me as I enter that room, however well trained and stealthy I might be.
It’s always blown my mind that people think that you need to be a SEAL or John wick to use common sense and train to be safe in a world where violence is common place.

EXACTLY my friend once told me just train in all the things bad guys don't ,go to the shooting range ,workout your stomach ,and understand that the. Average criminal has no background in trained fighting or military background lol people think their going to be fighting against a trained seal or expert gun fighter
I still don't understand why people think it's bad to know how to defend yourself. Same with having a kit with plates and all that.
Ignoring cutlery, our kitchen has cast iron cookware, several heavy rolling pins that are readily available. Not ideal but serviceable in a pinch. This where the ring door bell alerts are a big help too.

Moral of the story. Get security cameras and lock your doors and windows no matter if you're inside the home or in the backyard. A locked door gives you a little more time to be able to prepare yourself. I have cameras at my house as well as firearms staged throughout the house that aren't easily found if you don't know where they are and I also have a plan with my wife that she takes our 3 kids into their room and gets on the floor and calls 911 while I go for the nearest firearm to me at the time. You can't plan for everything but you can plan enough to save your life or your family's lives. When it comes to my kids I will happily go down if it means they get to live.
What if you’re not home when this takes place? What if your wife and kids are there alone?
It assume that your wife will have a firearm with her when she goes into a protective room, in case you are incapacitated or killed, before help arrives.. Or that at least she would have fast access to one, if you have a childproof small gun box/vault, operated by fingerprint in that room. Obviously she should also be aware of each staged firearm's location as well.
Alex should have lowered the mower blade so it would brown out the grass, thereby limiting the times he has to mow the grass over the summer.
A really bad guy/multiple bad guys may have gone down one of the sides into the backyard (where the wife went) - these corridors are linear danger areas (LDAs) and "fatal funnels" by the way - for you or the bad guy.
If I were on really good terms with my backyard neighbor, both her and I would be over that fence and cutting through _their_ backyard (to their street). This avoids the sides, front, interior, etc. where you know the bad guy is likely to be.
Your home is your castle until you're hunted there. Then it's either a _keep_ (e.g. a safe room) where you are willing to fight to the death, or it's a trap - that you need to escape from.

Only thing I can add…. Britney was trying to look in the window when her hubby started clearing. Had the threat been coming down the hall after seeing her, she would have been in the line of fire had a gun battle happened….

Great video. But...if you're doing work outside NEVER NEVER leave the garage or front door open. Also have a buddy system with trusted neighbors and have your wife and kids egress to their home if necessary. Never let them engage because they're soft targets.

Also, spec ops get training with 100's of thousands of rounds in addition to, all the focus, support, etc., etc. And your right, anybody can be had. Training and awareness are the keys. I came here to watch an expert teach tactics and that is exactly what I got. Army veteran here and an avid shooter as well as being a lifetime member of the NRA, I am not only constantly going over scenarios with my family but my family and I constantly train. We love going to the range to shoot as a family and I have confidence in my wife and my boys to be able to handle themselves and protect themselves. Also, very glad to live in Arizona which is one of the best places to live in the US if you do own firearms. Nice video, and let's all be the sheepherder to protect the sheep from the wolf!
As a fellow veteran, Thank You for your service to our country. I also thank you for detailing the ramifications of pulling the trigger. I firmly believe everyone who owns a firearm should be properly trained on its use and even how to de-escalate a situation and even on how to purchase the right weapon for you. I’m a farmer in my retirement and my gun case is a toolbox of different weapons for different situations, shotguns, rifles of various calibers, etc. again, Thank You

That is a really beautiful house 🏠 But all I could think of when I saw the rooms was "there are lots of hiding places there, and there's a lot of glass someone could crash through to get into the house". I guess a former Navy Seal might not worry about that so much
Great video - thanks for the education. Regarding calling 911 to clear your house you must remember that is a good option in a major Metropolitan City but nearly useless, timewise, in remote rural areas. Where I live that could take over half an hour. Also, many rural areas have no cellular coverage.
I watch your videos daily because I learned long ago "Knowledge is Power."
Heck city people in Mountainous areas of Coastal Washington have really bad cell service, Tacoma/Lacey/Tumwater it only works in some rooms.

With the intruder visibly leaving as Brittany was turning away, I could only think of her in the back yard and the intruder looping back around to the rear while hubby cleared the house. Regardless, everyone should be well versed in clearing their own home and run these practice drills regularly.
The only time my 6' Gates are unlocked is when I'm using them. So 1 hr per week. Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't want to be Rand Paul because he failed to protect himself while mowing the lawn. I sincerely believe my wife will get us killed in SHTF because she often forgets to lock the front door.

keep the exterior doors closed and locked at all times. safety is more imprtant than convenience.
keep firearms either on you at all times, and/or strategically/secretly placed throughout the house.
i know it was done to create a “need to clear the house” scenario, never should your house be wide open, and the only defensive tool you have nearby is a knife in a cluttered drawer of stuff.
Someone climbed up and over the rail on my 2nd floor condo(through the partially open window,they popped out the screen),my neighbors' condo across the hall got hit the same day. We were both at work. I don't have any family but she had a teen daughter,luckily neither one was home. After the insurance co. replaced my stuff,i now keep the serial numbers in my wallet and put a double-sided key deadbolt on the doors that should have them. Best regards sir!
Regarding comments on how Alex could have done this better. I think it was a mistake to close the door behind him when Alex entered the house because he did not have an avenue to retreat. On videos where police enter to clear a home, they tend to keep the entrance door open. Also, there was no pause in his actions once inside the home when he closed the entry door. Should have paused for a half minute or longer to listen for sounds in the house. Most people can’t stay still for any length of time.
My thoughts exactly, closing the door would alert the intruder and prevent you from running out
One thing I like about the scenario is dude doing the yard work is armed. You’re “home” but not really when outside, focused on your task, and unable to hear over a mower, weed eater, etc. Super vulnerable.
I also take to heart the sage advice given by The Expanse's Detective Miller..."Doors and corners kid, that's where they'll get ya'"!
Great training points. The only thing I would add was that since she called 911 while he was clearing LE is on the way. If law enforcement were quick Alex needs to be aware that stepping out of his front door armed LE might mistake that he is the threat. Probably not likely but in the heat of the moment something else to be aware of just in case.

Question- is it ever a good idea when clearing the house to just stop at a hallway and listen? If none of your family is in immediate danger, could you find a spot to camp and wait for the intruder?
Absolutely. Move a little. Listen and watch a little. 🙏
Run the scenarios in your home. Run the scenarios in the dark without lighting. Have an agreed upon area in the home that all will gather during the scenario if possible, preferably outside. If during the night ( more likely the case) each household member should be taught to lie on the floor if the alarm is activated ( get an alarm system if you dont have one, a dog is a good choice) as bullets typically fly higer when fired. Dogs, particularly larger breeds, if nothing else can cause a "bad guy" to think twice. Not because dogs bite all the time, but they do bark.

Really good video. Thank you. I would also suggest closing the doors behind you like the master bedroom and the pantry where the dog stuff is for the same reason you mentioned about keeping the doors in the hallway closed. If that door opens, you know that there is someone behind you.

Just found your channel today! I carry every day, even at home. Unless I'm naked I have a firearm on me at all times. My lady rolls her eyes now and again but she also has said she feels safer when we're together.

The near corner of dining room was visible in the reflection off of the tv screen on the wall. Seeing it clear from down the hall will save time. *IT'S YOUR HOME!* You should damned well already know what tools are always at YOUR disposal, including mirrors, TV screens, picture frames, squeaky boards, hinges, cupboard doors, etc.
*REMEMBER:* Your "arsenal" actually consists of FAR more than just your guns!

At 6:02, you bring up an interesting issue, this is very rarely addressed in training, we call it "working from the blueprint", some adults that suffered childhood abuse from primary caretakers developed a survival mechanism based on a "freeze", fight or flight were not an option,
because it worked, ( it did not get them killed), the subconscious adopted it as a survival strategy. This issue requires a different approach to overcome in training.
The whole clearing your home situation is situationally based. To your point, if nothing important (like kids, etc.) are inside best situation is to not be drawn in. Same thing as if something goes bump in the night, typical best call is to get family into one room, call 911, and be prepared to destroy anyone who enters say the hallway leading to the room, etc. Many times clearing a home is more macho thing that gets you killed, than something you must do at that time. The main question is how do people get themselves in these situations (sometimes not their fault) and how do we avoid them. Like door locks, leaving garages open during the day, etc.

You bring up great points, and when talking about some people just don’t have that… violence in them, you also have to factor in the home invader, which you have no clue if it’s some kid off his meds or some dude that has a pinch of loving do to harm to people. Bless the US.
Clear each room as you go
Set up outdoor sensors and perimeter alarms. CCTV system help verify potential threats.
First thing, keep you door locked. And be sure it's reinforced. And a locked storm door will at least slow them down and give you a warning. In the video it appears as though he just walked in.
Definitely good to practice room clearing - for an emergency. But if you and your wife are already together, outside, you suspect there's a threat inside (and there's no kids in the house) - why go back in? Retreat to a safe location and call the cops.
Edit: ... and then I watched the rest of the video; this was the first thing you pointed out.

I had this situation in january of this year. 12:14 a loud bang in the middle of the night and i grabbed my hamdgun and began to clear my home while my wife was calling 911.
I did not clear the bedrooms as they were right my our bedroom. But i cleared the living room amd proch through the living room windows and porch wondows.
I had no idea what it was called, but i pied into the lotchen and dining room as best as i could. They T off of a hallway directly across from each other.
This is where my question about basement stairs come in (different video) because i had to go down there too.
Luckily it was nothing. Most likely, our cat. 🤷♂️
But this incident got me into drilling on home defense. And im glad i found this channel. I love the information.
case by case obviously but in this particular case there is a reflective television that he can use to visually clear the remaining slice without breaking the plane.. Knowing your home and training in it gives you the advantage of finding every little tool at your disposal. even placing wall mounted mirrors ahead of time for visual clearance can be a good idea as long as you remember mirrors go both ways.

Loving these videos. You bring a detailed perspective that allows me to look at my own house and understand how I would clear given situations. One thing I'm struggling with, and can't seem to find great examples of, is how to clear down an open stairwell where your legs would be exposed before you're able to clear the room below. Any plans to show this in the future?

Always, ALWAYS carry your loaded firearm, if you own one.
(With small children in the house, designate which parent or family member carries a gun/the gun when the other one is busy with the children)
And during nighttime keep the gun in easy reach. (There are also bedroom tables with drawers which can be locked against children or just lock the door you now, like you do for doing "adult stuff" if you're concerned with the kids getting unwanted acces to the gun.
Evil and crime won't send you an invitation. In the worst case scenario your life will be over within seconds before you can even reach your gun and load the ammo into it.
Or in the worst case scenario the bad guy gets YOUR gun, that is laying on the kitchen table while you're taking the trash out and murders your family with your gun.
Having witnessed firsthand someone breaking into property of my grandparents in the middle of the night and sneaking right past the open window of the room i was sleeping in, is a memory you will never EVER forget. The fear and feeling of total helplessness by beeing totally exposed to someone within your own four cornes...

Stay in the backyard only if you have cover. That light push mower may make a handy offensive shield if running. 😮
I had to do this for a friend who had a squatter in her dad's house. We had no idea if anyone was hiding in there, or if they were armed or not because my friend's father had firearms in the house, and we had no idea if they had been compromised or not. It was my first time ever doing that, but I think I did a good job. I went slowly and methodically from room to room, even checking closets and overhangs in the garage.
Obviously, it was done at a risk to me, but the cops in our area couldn't be bothered to do a run through of the house for her. Yup, you heard that right, they just took a report and wouldn't send anyone to the house to make sure it was vacant. We had to get that house secure, and we installed video cameras for monitoring the entire house that day. No problems after that.
I'm thankful for tactical videos like this. I have watched quite a few of them and I'm sure they helped me out doing that for my friend.
I have been working in the garage here something and grab a 1/2 in breaker bar, plenty of improvised weapons in the shop.

I kind of wonder what the risk is that there might either be a second threat outside or that the intruder might have left the front on seeing her and ran around to the back. Thereby, leaving the wife outside and vulnerable. More variables to be addressed. On one hand, the privacy fence is an obstacle an intruder(s) would have to breach to get to the backyard in this situation. On the other, the enclosed backyard can trap her. In any situation, there is never a 100% solution. It always comes down to reducing risk and choosing to accept the risks you can't eliminate.
