    I love channels like this that explain the process without stopping to talk about every basic shortcut. I know beginners will complain but it should be very clear that these are **not** beginner tutorials. More like intermediate

    Great, now you just have to animate the face with bones or shapes to see how your normals go to waste, a mouth and eyes animation tutorial is needed right away.

      @@saikotamagachi7884 same. That's honestly how learning through the internet is with free content..trying to figure out how things are done from different videos because no one wants to give detailed explanations for free. It's time consuming. So at the end your knowledge and skillset comes from an amalgamation of the hundreds of videos you watched just for one thing lol. Still, this is super valuable. No one else from my search has done any of this with this much quality, especially for anime related modeling

    Great knowledge although some big problems with this tutorial.
    1. Far too quick, even when playing at 0.5 speed.
    2. Jump cuts at difficult points, when creating the neck is a good example.
    3. Obviously you are aware that turning off key displays was a problem and sadly this was sometimes at vital points.
    I'd rate the content very high although these problems are extremely frustrating especially if you are new to blender I'd imagine.
    I've subscribed though because as I said earlier you have a good style of teaching despite these issues.

    Also, after the initial block-out with the verts, select all with Shift+A and click M, then By Distance. It will delete all unnecessary vertices that could mess up the model later.

    Thx for showing this. I use Manga and animee as inspiration. But I don't follow it completely. I try to keep it my own drawing style. For anyone that is struggling, I had to redo it a few times. I settled on using a subsurface modified cube starting out. But my character is male. So, use what works for you, but keep in mind the same principles apply.

    Hoho! Great work, friend! Very few tutorials are out there for proper anime head topology, and you mostly nailed it. The only suggestion I'd have is to make the "bevel" between the face plate and the rest of the chin/head (the chinstrap?) more defined, flattened, and set a bit further back since it heavily contributes to the characters' 3/4 view and determines whether the face will look elongated or not from the 3/4 view. You're still better than most of the other people I've seen on youtube though!

    • @2amgoodnight
      @2amgoodnight  Рік тому +3

      Actually looks like you're right. I will have to find some solutions for this.
      For now, if your project is solely in Blender you can:
      1. Duplicate the face mesh
      2. Add a Data Transfer modifier to your original Face mesh, Source is the duplicate mesh, Face Corner Data checked, Custom Normals selected and Mapping set to Topology. This will keep the original edited normals in place even when the face is edited for shape keys

    • @drluigi3760
      @drluigi3760 Рік тому +2

      @@2amgoodnight Ah ok, that's a good work around. I've been searching for a solution for almost 2 years now (also recently found out that the subdiv modifier has a custom normal option in the advanced option), and besides that method, aVersionOfReality does have series involving that, it's not complete yet, and it can be overwhelmingly technical, but in theory, could be a huge breakthrough for stylized shading.

      subdivision is basically a bandaid solution for making things look smoother, but you lose a lot of control over the individual vertices when using it. plus it can make weight painting a lot harder when you have things mirrored as certain vertices will be crossed over to the other side of the mesh when you dont normally see them that way with the subdiv on. I actually recommend everyone learn how to model without the subdiv because I just dont think its worth it.
