This is the first time I've ever done it this way and I can see why people box model their heads. No need to retopo if your topology is good in the first place!
Thanks so much! I loved the show too. I only got to watch the first season, tho. I got busy and just never found the time to get caught up. Glad you like the model, and thanks again! ❤️
I have not a single idea about 3d modelling, but I am inspired to start learning, this looks so great! Absolutely love this kind of style, it just pleasant to look at!
This reminds of how Guilty Gear makes the models for its characters to look as closely to 2D as possible, theres an entire video explaining how its animation works and I really recommend it
Brother, you have no idea how useful this is to me! I literally just started making my first anime OC in Blender. I've never done this before, so naturally my instinct was to sculpt it first, but then I saw what other people were doing, so I thought "How do it do that?" Then after enough searching I finally found your video!! Liked, Subbed, and Favorited!
I almost never comment on videos normally, but I'm going to break that rule of mine to thank you for this tutorial; this style of modeling is exactly the style I want to do when starting development on a game I've been wanting to make. I appreciate the clear and concise way you break things down, your workarounds, explaining some of your techniques you use and why they work, etc. Gonna save this video as one of the big inspirational videos for when I get a little time to start up working with Blender. Keep up the excellent work!
As a professional animator I can't tell you how many times faking 2d has saved me from unnecessary work from clients. I'm like yeah sure we can do that hehe
This is actually understandable! I've tried finding tutorials that seem to overcomplicate the most basic steps and features to where I feel like I am not even smart enough to know how to open the program. I already know I'm not very bright and that Blender has a pretty steep learning curve, but still! This tutorial doesn't try to reinvent the wheel in a way that makes you feel like you can never learn the basics and that gives me hope that maybe I could make something like this some day! Thank you!
Looks really good, one thing though, I can't recommend leaving shapes intersecting into mesh. Unless it's a separate item entirely, it really should be stitched into the main mesh. Not always a big deal, just a good habit to keep things clean and make rigging and animation simpler.
The ultimate question. How long did it take you to make her? It's always so easy watching videos like this, but I know this took some serious time, you're good and you make it look easy.
As someone just starting to learn Blender, seeing many of the shortcuts, tips and overall way you handle the program are just jaw-dropping for me. I've still got a loooong way to go, but I am going there
Damn, I'm pretty new to blender but this was a ton of help to demystify some of the workflow people do, very nice walk through and all around video! Got me some well needed excitement to get better :)

Ah, this was very good! I absolutely LOVE the show she's from, I gave it a 9/10 on MAL which is actually pretty rare for me. Loved watching you sculpt Akko!
Since I am personally making some anime inspired characters for my private series, I think this might be useful. I also like the character's facial expression. I think the design looks good.
This is so insane man, youve earned my Sub and my Respect, youve shown me a easier way to make characters, your way seemed like it took less than 5 hours and its incredible, im trying to make a game and this type of content helped big time, i didnt even know you remesh opals together to form the body, thats awesome!
Great work. Quick Tip: If you do the Eyes in that way, make the Iris concave. That adds Depth to it and looks better overall. Other than that you can see that there are still a few things of, proportional wise by looking on the Thumbnail but very good Work for the first time!
This is amazing. I really want to learn how to 3D model anime characters. I have made the donut in blender but that was super boring. So I have to learn how to make a realistic human in 3D first, then I will try and tackle making an anime character. Though since I am focusing on 2D digital and traditional art to learn the basics and fundamentals of drawing first, I will work on that. Looking forward to more content like this!
Damn I've been trying to get an understanding of why 3d anime characters look so different from 2d ones. This video has been enlightening. It's more about the shading than anything. 2d anime characters are usually detailed with custom shadows made by the creator. 3d ones are usually used in a render engine with cel shading. I don't think cel shading can compete with hand-made shadows, and the hand-made shadows you created definitely helps with that theory. Even with your shadows, the rotation of the model causes some outlines to change size or disappear altogether, which breaks the 2d look. Kind of exciting to realize this. I bet you someone could figure out how to fix that and also automatically do shading that feels more organic.
Hi Bran. Sorry I'm late. It's been a while since I last saw your video. I learned a lot after watching this video. I learned how to apply the solidify modifier and some of your modeling skills on modeling girl characters, particularly anime style. I also made a 3D model character for my projects in Blender who is a girl character. I applied some of those lessons from you. I used the Toon shader and the Solidify modifier. I also really wanted to thank you. Though I'm not sure about my own project, I always have my own self doubts. I didn't make my 3D models perfectly. I think you did a great job. I hope I get better in the future as I am currently still self actualizing in my life. I hope everything goes well for you Bran.
Now spend years learning custom normals to make dynamic npr models with shadows that move based on lighting (only if you're insane) but this looks great!
fr. I looked at a few videos on it and was like "shit, I'ma just paint it!" I might dive into later after I get better at rigging and want to try to animate 😵
This looks amazing! I absolutely know nothing about blender yet and I've always wanted to learn,,, but until I get the time and courage to actually study it, I'll just settle with watching videos like yours. 😅
OMG THAT’S SO COOL, you should try making a model which somebody would use on a regular without much problems, so like the bones would be in the right place. Maybe Tanjiro? Or Deku?

as always your work is really impressive... and the way you describe your work feels less intimidating than common 3D modelers guys out there
