@Bacopa68 I'm from North Carolina, we spell it Cattywampus, and you didn't even use it in the right context, Cattywampus is an adjective. Cattywampus means "fucked up," one can't "start" a Cattywampus. Discombobulated isn't a Southern term, and you used it in the wrong context, you could be bemused or confounded, but not discombobulated, and you also used lagniappe incorrectly.
Also, you misspelled AND misused beaucoup*

I had a friend who used to work in a bio company of some sort. He did work with capsaicin. So of course he was required to wear gloves. But he realized that he had a thick skin which had no reaction to capsaicin. So he thrown gloves away and it was quite comfortable until he went to a toilet. He came to the toilet, pulled down his pants, pulled his manly part out and grabbed it with his hand to improve his aim. Remnants of capsaicin on his hand readily jumped ship and he quickly became a proud owner of extremely irritated and swollen male appendage. His eyes immediately became full of tears and he wiped them promptly with his hands. Eyes quickly joined the club where his penis was already a member of. And at that point his boss walked in on him. It was a sight to behold: crying guy with pants down, full of tears with his fallos sticking out and getting bigger every second 😅

LOL OMG! LOLOLOLOLOL I can only match that: A friends friend (Bob) and a mutal friends boyfriend turned out not to be all together there. Back in the day Bob and Taz decided to enter a card game tournment: the pokemon and magic the gathering kind. Both wanted to try to get away with using some cards not aloud for tournaments. After multple beers and even more balls decided to arm wrestle for them...on the edge of a bunch of boxes. Taz wasn't both: significantly taller, heavier and dumber than Bob and neither one was all that bright. Proof? Bob: oooh genuinly thought the pretty twinkly things in the sky was dust or something . Taz once proclaimed genuine surprise the earth goes around the sun...only to go on to decide we were all trolling him somehow. So Taz and Bob rather than finding a table or to flip a coin ...used the edge of a bunch of stacked prize boxes. well Taz and bob somehow got to a stalemate untill taz leaned aaaal the way into winning bob did to...bob spent the next several months with: all of hands bones many pieces and healing, his arm gross mess, his shoulder according to doctors: "looking like the wreckage of a 2000 puzzle piece pile after a hyper active ferret and toddler had at it" it was swollen pretty much all of the time. he was high on vicodin etc.
fast forward a looong time many months at least IIRC almost 2 years long time. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL the two of them didn't learn at all: at another tournament of some sort in order to decide who pays for a bunch of new cards to to take in and get at least second place: oh I know lets T-Bag this thing that says very very hot, who ever as to shower first loses....
All I know is they both woke up an entire apartment from being in insane pane and that some of the hot sauce found it's way into the inside of there arse.
Both went to the ER...I can only imagine how they explained that episode of stupidity.

Meanwhile, the media ignores or barely mentions some actual dangerous trends, like tween boys trying a cord around their neck to try auto-erotic asphyxiation, then found dead, when they didn’t get the cord off before passing out, and I have seen tragic cases that were probably this during ER rotations.

Despite it being much more widely known than it used to be, I often find myself surprised by how lightly people take the risk of water intoxication. I remember being at a rave once (water intoxication being a major cause of death among MDMA users) and a guy near me was 1) wearing a leather jacket while also 2) sweating profusely and 3) being extremely high. I'm like, well this situation is all kinds of dangerous. I told him to go get water (and he did) because I thought the sweat and leather jacket were winning out over any concerns about consuming too much water, but it can be really, really hard to tell who's at risk in a place like that - especially when intoxication from other things can mask the signs of drinking too much water.

Damn, I bet that was cuz way back in the day (90s) the few deaths that occurred (from MDMA) were from dehydration & overheating/heat-exhaustion so everyone then went around encouraging people to drink water. So I can see how that could end up going into the opposite direction, especially when apparently everything feels so good (if you get actual MDMA), so while normally drinking water after dancing hr/hrs would feel good, on MDMA it must feel AMAZING.

During multiorgan failure, not related, I couldn't eat any spice or salt for years. Tried it again afterwards while I was rebuilding my tolerance naturally, and it almost sent me right back to the hospital. 😂 The only reason it didn't was because I'd just spent years in unbelievable agony, so it wasn't that bad in comparison.

I actually have gotten carolina reaper extract in my left eye. I was sampling sauces from a Puckerbutt representative (the literal developers of the Carolina reaper). The extract itself wasn't that bad, as my face/jaw just went numb almost immediately. This extract was intended to be added by the drop to large pots of chili. But it caused my eyes to water and I rubbed them. Cue horrifying pain, significantly worse than tear gas and probably second only to being petter sprayed (have tried the first but never been pepper sprayed). I tried flushing with water first which was rather ineffective, then switched to milk which legitimately DID help. Thankfully, I didn't sustain any measurable eye damage and still have 20/15 per eye at 30yo nearly a decade later (all my other senses are terrible though).

Anecdote inspired by the chilli issue:
When my brother and I were very little, my parents had some ornamental chilli plants. We had only ever eaten mildly spiced foods - we didn't use any peppers/chillis other than capsicum (bell peppers), and the spices shelf didn't even have cayenne or paprika.
So when my brother and I made mud pies and used the chillis to add some colour, our eyes got itchy. And we rubbed them with our hands. And our eyes hurt, and our noses hurt.
Mum was so ignorant of capsaicin(sp?) she called poisons information to make sure we would be okay.

I did the challenge and survived an hour without a drink, but I also love really spicy food. I was always the person trying the spicy foods with some co-workers who never took a drink. That said, I don't really recommend it. I have a stomach of steel and my stomach was upset after eating it, and it tastes horrible. No good flavor at all, just hot. Also, if you do encounter the chip, handle it with gloves. My package did not come with gloves and I didn't think of it until I opened the chip. I ended up using the package to handle it.

The £2000 fine was because it was tried in the magistrates court (lower less serious offenses) and they chose not to refer the case to the Crown Court, where there would have been an unlimited penalty. At the time the prosecution didn't have the right to challenge sentences since 1988 (2 years after this)
