This doesn't look so good for the Colossus until you remember they can heal themselves by consuming trees and gold.... which I only discovered like 10 years after playing AoM for the first time.

It pretty much still is lmao. Literallt the only myth unit you can upgrade twice. Nothing beats him in a 1 vs 1 unless it has an insta kill ability, not even mid-low tier heroes.

It just eats buildings, some high level players literally use their godpowers like chaos just to counter colossi.

OK I'll go ahead and take this way more seriously than I should. I have a few caveats here:
1. You can't let a melee unit duel a ranged unit and then conclude that the melee one is better when it beats the ranged. Ranged units are much more squishy but are supposed to stand in the backline and pump out damage without getting hurt. Of course it will lose once you take the range advantage away.
2.the fortresses didn't attack the colossus and the chimera because fortresses in their base form can't attack units that are standing right in front of them. You need a special upgrade for that.
3. The Murmillos that fought the chimera were base Murmillos. By the time the these mythic age myth units roll around, the enemy will have elite soldiers. Granted you will probably have upgraded your myth units too but still.
4. The carcinos lost against the nereid because nereids are strong against myth units.
I agree. It is a fun video but his method is very flawed. You shouldnt take the information seriously.
@@Glacius96 Any tips on how I could make these videos extremely "accurate" then? Cause I plan to make more in-depth ones since some people seem to be interested.
@@Nexotic0 If I tried to compare different myth units I would let them fight as part of a small army. To keep it comparable, create 2 armies out of, lets say for the classical age 7 Hoplites and 3 Toxotes with one Minotaur on the one side and one Zentaur on the other side. That way you could look how each unit would fare in a real game because you won't hardly ever have a duel between myth units. Then I'd vary the army composition slightly for each subsequent age but always use two identical armies for compareability. I would also upgrade my army and myth units to the latest tech, so medium infantry for the classical, heavy for the heroic and champion for the mythic and gold colossus vs Medusa matriarch and so on and so forth. I know you can't spawn upgraded units in the Editor but if you team up with a friend you can upgrade your units once the game has started.
However when letting two armies clash there is higher randomnes in the outcome because there are way more ways 10 units can interact than just 2. To combat this I would run multiple simlations for each versus battle and look who wins most on average.
That's how I would do it but this may very well also not be perfect and could be improved upon. Just my 2 cents on the topic :)
@@paulhee8559 it is possible to have upgrades in the editor, although I'm not sure if it requires triggers or if setting the age correctly and having the right buildings built is sufficient. Maybe that last method would work if you somehow set the editor to death match mode?
@@ArduousNature I could probably install the game on my laptop and run vs matches with and without upgrades with myself. Might be the easiest option.
The trigger's in the editor are bugged for me because of my 2560x1440 resolution.

@dobo Interesting. Well of course kiting wasn't apart of the test since it just was a video covering the general strength of each myth unit. I should load up a game with a friend and make a more in-depth followup video. That being said if you are playing against AI, they won't really kite your units around with some exceptions but you as a player can use the centaur to kite the AI. Will definitely keep that in mind

@protoxx As a tip, within the characteristics to evaluate, you must take into account the speed. And when you face 1 vs 1, a Centaur vs a Cyclops, you can not put melee, you must perform MICRO with the centaur, where he hits and runs, to see how it turns out. Centaurs don't fight hand-to-hand with anyone. To put an example.
Yeah centaurs are amazing, especially to snipe early important enemy units.

When fighting few regular units against myth unit you should do a 3 separate tests. Myth units, like other units, have various attack types and different values for different armour types. You should check each unit against few basic infantry, archers and cavalry.
colossus such a classic unit highest hp also eats gold n tree roots its such a badass unit along with other giants like mountain giants frost giant fire giant , i also love the avenger and heka giant

Overall good vid, but if you ever plan to make them more accurate and take more facts into account, you should take a look at Spirit of the Law, an Age of Empires 2 youtuber. He does very good in depth videos and compares production costs, time, how they fit into different builds and playstyles, matchups...

The fortress needs to have burning oil upgrade to actually hit units that are meleeing it

Hefaestus cult is the most broken absolutely, giving the magical vault which gives infinite resources (put it into a fortified city and you will become unbeatable) and giving the strong Colossus. But on other sides, Medusa is cheap and can oneshot non heroic or titan units, and this is pretty op, while Chimera is a solid unit with high stats. Greek are really strong late game overall.
PS: It's normal Carcinos loses to nereids, they annihilated all water myth creatures. Carci and Scylla are good water units.

Fun fact about the Minotaur: it can be considered a pseudo-instant-kill alternative to the Cyclops as its headbutt special attack instantly kills the below UNMODIFIED human soldiers:
Peltast (Greek)
Toxotes (Greek)
Slinger (Egyptian)
Axeman (Egyptian)
Spearman (Egyptian)
Throwing Axeman (Norse)
Arcus (Atlantean)
Turma (Atlantean)
It also severely damages the below unmodified human soldiers such that a follow-up regular attack kills them:
Chariot Archer (Egyptian)
Mercenary (Egyptian)
Ulfsark (Norse)
Huskarl (Norse)
Raiding Cavalry (Norse)
What about Chinese human soldiers? Which unmodified ones can be instantly killed by the Minotaur's headbutt or severely injured such that only 1 regular attack is needed to kill them?
Wirth noting that the minotaur can insta kill more things, or di better by knocking them out if bounds, which would keep the unit alive but useless until manually sucided
I still think Collosi are the best Greek myth unit, due to the fact that they're able to regenerate by eating trees and gold mines as well as the fact that they have high crush and hack damage (which is effective against units, myth units and buildings alike) as well as two upgrades that make them even more powerful.
I think the Colossus is a solid siege unit that can defend itself against humans, and Hephaestus Plenty Vault is almost always the strongest option in Mythic for Greeks. That said, a mass of Myrmidons and Medusae can annihilate most other army comps, and I have a soft spot for going max archer power as Hades with Ares, Apollo, and Artemis.

Damn I have never heard anyone mispronounce Minotaur like that in my life.
Even if poor Medusa could use her special atack on buildings , she would just convert stone to stone without damaging the buildings (or make Norse wooden buildings stone which would improve them😢)

Not a very practical test. In in game situations, the centaur is probably the best classical age unit because of raiding, the cyclops is only good if you plan to destroy your opponent in an all-in fashion in classical age. in the herooc age, I think you can go for some hydras but In general you wouldn't focus on mythical units. The medusa is not good because it's only good against very few opponents. The chimera I beralt used but it seems alright. The main goal in mythical age with zeus is to mass colossus though and absolutely kill everything. They don't die, and you need a lot of hero's to counter them. The best mythical unit of the greeks is the colossus. And the centaur in early game.
Regarding greek mythical units my money goes for hydra and perhaps cyclops because is cheaper and you can have them early in the game, so you can have a better advantage of that, perhaps hydra because she doesn't need an upgrade, has reasonable speed and a good bonus against buildings.
Medusa is the best unit if you fight 1vs1 (vs no heroes)

But i prefer mass cyclops units because Colossus cost 400 gold and for 1000 gold you can made 2 Colossus, but 4 Cyclops (250 gold i think).. Cyclops are to strong agains buildings and units too and can stand up units
Nereid has huge bonus against myth units. She wrecks every myth unit on water. She is an anti myth unit

If you churn out medusa's & put heros & mymiridons out front they'll just absolutely wreck everything. They recharge their special so quickly that even a group of 5, when protected by other units, will melt all other units.
So the Medusa's recharge time should be increased, I'll try to keep this in mind for my personal "data" mod

Medusa is still best mithic in my books. Its ability is brutal against other mith units and the fact that she's ranged keeps her alive for longer than the chimera and if you mass medusas you become basically unstoppable. Bring in catapults to deal with buildings and some infantry+minotaur frontline and you're good. The greeks can also generate favor easyer than other races, so the high cost is not that big of an issue. Any instakill mechanic would be rediculous, but giving it to a ranged unit is just broken in my oppinion.

Protoxx btw Colossus got a huge nerf. Colossus no longer has 3x damage bonus vs myth units and he now has 1000hp instead of 1100 as before. Hes now basically useless in everything except crushing buildings. Sad

In terms of stats sure, but dude, centaurs are fucking amazing in actual gameplay they are super fast, have long range a super precise attack that allows the to snipe units and if you micro they can defeat anything. Especially considering you get them so early.

this does not tell the whole story as some units can be upgraded, meaning that even a Tyrant Chimera cannot beat 10 champion murmillos and so on. But anyway I agree Chimera is the best overall MU (in 1vs1 obviously Medusa Matriarch is the best in the game)

The Colossus isn't that great in melee combat, it's more of a siege weapon. They lose against every other 'heavyweight' myth unit like Avenger, Heka Gigantes or Mountain Giant.
Colossus are the best. To 100 %. Not because my name or because I love him. It's because the reality and the swag. You made it wrong. Also Medusa is on second place, because crush attack against buildings. Go next to a building and without upgrades or 10 Medusas and the buildungs are f**k3d.
