Likely cause there is 2 kinds of Elves, and we'd have to honestly dedicate space for both. Granted, I'd throw out Trolls for Dark Elf Archers under Loki. I mean they had no problem using Dwarfs..... I'd just have them be Archers who can farm better like the dwarfs mine better, and actually do more damage while standing on a farm plot :P
Initially they passed the tests but then they were dropped because it turned out they had cheated. Those long ears were actually antennas and they had someone telling them all the answers
yep and are too fast for anything that could defeat them as well. Though this also make them great rlankers that will devour ranged troops in seconds still overall they are a sad sight for a mythic age only unit
I think it is important to compare the price of each unit, aswell as population cost and training time. If you can have 2 units por the pop of 1, then that's something.
Also, for ranged units, it is good to test against Atlantean Birds, because those are really good at killing regular myth units, and having a counter-measure is really great.
Actually, if you spam like 30 fenris wolves, they become really op because they're great siege units, kill amounts of civilians in seconds and become reeeeally fast, so you can retreat then without losing too much units .
In static combat melee myth units like mountain giants and similar unit are going to be way better while in practise high movespeed units and ranged units are always going to be better simply because faster units can pick favourable fights, and ranged units because they can kite like you said but they can also abuse terrain and building more heavily. The mobility is also extra important for myth units because they tend to be quite expensive.
Would have liked to see pop vs pop with the wolves vs fire giants. You had 25 pop firegiants fight 15 pop of wolves. I think the wolves win in resource and pop efficiency but who knows.
it is very unlikely in a real game you get to make so many mythical units like that!! what was missing is taking into account the cost of the unit, the wolf is much cheaper ...
I love the content dude, would be awesome to add costs into the comparison as some units are far more expensive and everyone would benefit from cost effectiveness comparison.
Great content, hope you keep up and breath some new life to this game! By the way, if you like AoE2, you should watch spirit of the law and copy him a little. The fenris wolf brood test did them hardly any justice imo, because 5 wolves vs 5 fire giants can't really convey the picture. We don't know about their comparative costs; we can compare resource costs tit for tat sure, but favor is a whole other thing. For one, these tests assume it's a mirror match in terms of civ (norse v norse), which makes trading favor intensive units awkward since they generate favor through combat. I think in this mirror scenario your approach should take into account how many units are needed to fight for how long to generate the favor necessary to create the mythical unit. Secondly, you need to take into account villager work time needed to create the unit. This is especially important because this requires a planned strategy as the resource category of the myth unit implies a certain approach to age progression and army composition. If you crank out enough einherjars for instance, you might be able to finish the game early. If you failed to do that, you'd be significantly behind your opponent. You can expand on this by matching the units against units of other civs; since greeks require worship at a temple they'll be sacrificing villager time and that cost also needs to be taken into account. I know all this sounds like overcomplicating things, but it can be made simple as spirit of the law does, which makes him so good.
I think two more test was also required. 1. Population gap - fire giant is 5. Fenris wolf 3. 2. Resource gap -Fire Giant 300 gold & 35 favor. Fenris wolf 150 gold & 15 favor. Besides that great video. Thank you for uploading.
needed cost effectivenes and commeting on micro management like frost giant's freeze ability could game changer and speed and raiding ability needed as well
Notice how Norse culture places an emphasis on ships and naval units more than the other 2. And yet, the Norse campaign have absolutely no usage for water missions.
That's not really true. The greeks were quite the naval people, moreso than the norse i would say. Not to mention the fact that greeks were quite incredible at naval combat. They would wipe the floor with any norse attackers for sure. The norse were explorers and traders through sea, the greek were naval fighters and it wouldn't surprise me if they invented the concept of marines.
With AoM Retold coming out, I'm expecting this kind of content to see a resurgence, which would be well deserved given all the work you put in to this!
It's a shame i'm so busy with my main channel or i'd definitely come back to make some more. Still love this game just can't find time to make videos :)
The frost giant can also freeze the myth unit then go on to take out the basic units. As quickly as the ice melts the frost giant can just repeat what it just did.
There should be a test based on costs of the units (if a Fenris wolf cost 3 or 4 times or almost that price than the fire giant then it should be 3-4 wolves vs 1 giant). You could possibly also do this vs human units but idk if there is a way to compare favor vs other resources.
I knew it, my all-purpose battle combo is (playing as Loki): 4x longhouse spamming Hersir 1x fort spamming Huskarl 1x temple spamming Mountain + Fire Giants The hersir keeps an steady income of favor + spawns random myth units. The fire giants act as ranged/siege units. They usually prevail in battle and are the last to die. The mountain giants are the front wall of the army; they wreck walls and buildings, making way for the hersir to do their job. The huskarl protects the hersir from enemy archers. It works pretty well.
Someone has probably said this before but units like Ulfsark, priests and Hesir only have 3 attack in the first age and the Greek heroes and every hero in general are very weak in the first age compared to the later ages so the tests would be very different if the heroes were the in the equal age to the myth units they are fighting but I understand you can't get the triggers working in the editor. :)

I’m no good player as I only play against bots heheh. But I have to say this, the norse have the best myth units, if you stack a bunch of wolves or a bunch of fire giants you can destroy anything. But maybe that’s also related to how hard it is to get favor when you’re a norse
