Guy's let's be real, while yes this is a hype/hopeful look towards the future, the reality is we have absolutely no idea what the next Halo game will look like or play like just because they're switching to a new engine. The showcase yesterday was all a tech demo, it doesn't actually mean the game in development will look exactly like that.
Slipspace was only a bad engine that had so much money sunk into it because of the way Microsoft went about things with Halo. Hiring contractors to work on a proprietary, in house engine for a year and a half and then hiring a new batch of programmers every 18 months was a recipe for disaster. There was never one solid team of programmers who were experts with the engine to make sure everything is running right and untangle the coding mess when it would break.
This entire announcement is one giant "We're Hiring" advertisement, which is a very cool unique thing don't get me wrong but this was less for the fans and more for developers. "Hey we're no longer using our proprietary engine that nobody outside of Microsoft or really 343 Industries knows how to use, now we're using UE5 which is an industry standard!"

Halo Infinite IS fun, but there's no reason to have fun.
There wasn't content to grind for, everything was half-baked, the system wasn't like Halo Reach per se. In an area of long term videogame content grinds and games like Warframe showing you can put as much content in a game to last a decade, Halo Infinite simply was a decent game with no reason to play it.

Infinite was a good game, but it felt somewhat lifeless. The world was big for the sake of being big. Dynamic lighting and weather never really happened. Wildlife was practically nonexistent. the RE Engine is hands down one of the best out there. Not just because of graphics or performance, which are both great, but also because of the variety you can pull off. First Person Shooter and horror a la Resident Evil 7 and 8, third person shooters a la 2, 3 and 4, but also fast pace beat em ups like DMC5 or Monster Hunter. It is honestly mind blowing that capcom pulled that off. And also Street Fighter 6, Dragon's Dogma 2 and even Dead Rising Remaster.

Main issue with Slipspace were all the Independent Contractors. Microsoft didnt want to hire more longterm staff so a lot of people worked on the engine and then had to leave. It's not just Microsoft, Valve also had issues making a game while making a new version of Source. If you look at the Final Hours of HL:Alyx, they talk about the problem of feature creep when you work on a game engine and the game at the same time. I really hope that the switch to UE5 is not so that their 18 month contractor system can work with a 2 week training period rather than a 6 month training period for the Slipspace engine, it makes me a little scared that that employee practice will be retained to this new studio. Yeah but the team IS very different Charlie. They laid off half their studio, some reports saying 2/3rds, and rebranded not just to get rid of baggage, but to account for the fact that most of the new people working on Halo now are not from the old company. At least mostly people who weren't around for Halo 4/5. The other big fact to mention is that they didn't just fire "some leadership," but THE leadership. Bonnie Ross, Frank O'Conner, and Kiki Wolfkill called the shots, and they're all gone. Replaced by Pierre Hintz, the stoic leader who led the team that saved MCC and who a lot of the devs are happy working under. A year or two ago they literally had a press release talking about this major shift in leadership. So... it's not "most of the same people," it's basically a new team.
Edit: also another huge reason switching to UE5 is important is because they can now hire from an infinite pool of outside talent, which furthers my point. No wasting time teaching new hires how to use their in-house junk every. single. time.

it actually is pretty much a new studio, Microsoft laid off about 95% of the original 343 that created infinite, its all pretty much all new staff and devs. The guy they made the head, Pierre Hintze, is the guy who was responsible for resurrecting halo MCC and fixing it to become an actual content complete and polished game. I am beyond confident in this new Halo Studios, a name change was necessary because it just simply isn't 343 Industries.

They should have hired devs for solely working on the game engine and with no overlap of the development teams and also have the game development side be one step behind the engine development.
So if they work on game 1 on game engine 1, the engine development team would be working, making game engine 2, then game 2 will be worked on engine 2 while engine development team would be working on game engine 3 and etc.

It's all spaghetti code and it was a huge fight to add ANYTHING that wasn't originally baked into the engine. That's why co-op was such a giant task to add. That's why Forge took forever to implement. It was just a bad, halfbaked idea that resulted in so much technical debt that Microsoft couldn't have made another game on it if they wanted to.

Cross core, a good BR and AR instead one or the other, a strong DMR that can compete with both guns, 2 good secondary vehicle destroyer guns (I.E Scavenger and Hudra), the Disruptor and shock rifle are amazing, the Sidekick is also really good, same with the Commando, Bulldog (do wish they bring back the older shotgun too), all of Infinites weapons are really good.

For those interested: before the change, developers described the work environment at 343 as “feudalist” where different departments would fight each other for more resources from the heads. Each team was incredibly segmented from one another as well and communication was poor. The old leads were quite egotistical making brash decisions that actively harmed development, for example, the campaign team had to beg the sandbox lead not to cut the plasma pistol, only barely managing to save it. It was a leadership of egotism and over ambition that destroyed halo infinite. But now those people are all gone, and the new head is the man who lead the charge to fix the MCC and bring it to PC. I’m not 100% convinced they can pull off something spectacular, but i’m certainly no longer cynical

We all know what makes a great Halo campaign. Halo's multiplayer however feels like it hasn't been *really* good since Halo 3 or Reach. Halo's multiplayer since the beginning was always meant to be a party shooter game. Joining up with your friends, pre/post game lobbies, super customizable game rules, a ton of maps, and being able to fully customize your spartan with a fun progression system tied to it. Halo's multiplayer used to be far more social. Making Halo Infinite a live service competitive shooter lost all of that.

meh, hardly comical or spectacular. Following Halo 3 release and reception, franchise reached level that you will get shitted on regardless of outcome, and it started with Reach which had first vocal critique regardless how small in comparison to universal praise or acceptance. And each 343 Halo title had something going for it, like 4th story, 5th multiplayer or Infinite's open/sanbox styled campaign. Compare it with giant IP like CoD, BF or Fallout. Each had actual utter disaster releases. Halo had none, but neither had solid game across the spectrum.

I'm not sure how much they poured into Slipspace, but it is of note that Slipspace wasn't necessarily a new engine.
Slipspace was a refined version of the original Blam! engine, and what ended up causing them the headache in Infinite was the vast amounts of technical debt that came with a 20+ year old engine
