Obesity can have direct affect on non obese people. My mom's chairs are a victim. Mother's obese friend sat on one of them. And it died pre maturely sadly just like she will
EMS workers and nurses are also injured pretty often from having to move obese patients. I have a friend who's a nurse who ended up needing back surgery because she had to move a 400lb patient without enough help and completely fucked her spine up 😢

To be fair, there may be cases where the doctor may have you lose weight before conducting any (further) tests simply because the fat makes it impossible to conduct the test.
Video guy didn't put this into words properly, but say I'm diagnosed with leukemia and refusing treatment. I walk in complaining I bleed too much, too long, too easily. Is the doctor wrong in refusing further tests for liver disease, diabetes, etc.? debatable. If I get these tests, and they return negative, is the doctor wrong in not treating me for something he can't falsify but causes the same symptom, like ITP? doubtful, but debatable. If you said yes to either of those, assume now that 50% of the country's population gets diagnosed with leukemia. Does that yes still make sense? maybe. Will insurance companies (or public healthcare) still be able to service these leukemia patients? What about the other half of the population? You can clearly go too far either way here, but I sincerely doubt 'FatTok' influencers take the nuance in this into consideration before saying that the doctor is a bigot for not pumping my leukemic ass full of corticoids.
@@lukegros If we're trying to be fair, a doctor should not (arguably, cannot) treat you for something that they are not able to diagnose you for. Granted, some things do not require testing to prove (e.g. constant bleeding) (though you would still be tested to figure out what is causing the bleeding), but many things do. And if you're bleeding constantly, it doesn't make sense to test for liver and kidney problems before conducting any other kind of test. To bring to attention things that are of less importance and not as life-threatening than bleeding constantly is itself absurd and can raise eyebrows as to whether or not you find the bleeding issue to be of actual concern. If anyone is going to approach things logically, let it be the doctor. Don't try to confuse things. Multiple things can lead to the same symptoms. It is not necessarily easy to diagnose anyone for something (though some things are just plain obvious). Hence why testing is important (though many times inadequate). There are some tests like an echo or an MRI that would be difficult to impossible to perform if the person is overweight. And some health problems are the direct result of being overweight, and that would include liver and kidney problems. Clearly, requiring the patient to make better lifestyle choices is inducing a necessary process of elimination. I would not use leukemia as an example or analogy. We have tests for such a thing that help narrow things down to the point where a proper diagnosis can be made.
@@YourComputer In the hypothetical there's an initial diagnosis for leukemia (which causes low platelet counts, thus clotting issues) and refusal of treatment (by the patient). ITP, liver disease, and diabetes all cause clotting issues, and ITP, by it's nature, can't be ruled out in this case. Furthermore, the second question (if you should be treated for the disease that can't be ruled out) assumes an affirmative answer to the first question (testing despite a condition, leukemia, which already explains the symptom). Regarding the severity of leukemia and the alternatives vs obesity and the alternatives, you can also ask the same questions about osteoarthritis, which is a possible symptom of obesity, and rheumatoid arthritis, which is very hard to rule out in obese people, but treated differently.
@@lukegros There's a reason why testing is even a thing. If per the hypothetical you've been diagnosed with leukemia, redirecting towards ITP, liver disease, kidney, etc, as a cause for clotting issues wouldn't make sense and is arguably a red herring. As such, it would not be wrong of the doctor to deny treating symptoms (i.e. ITP, liver disease, kidney disease, etc) of said leukemia when it has already been concluded that leukemia is the cause. To further press on the matter towards redirection is to affirm ignorance on the whole medical practice. While the same questions can be raised for other issues, you will generally find the same answers. Indeed, it is not as debatable as you make it seem. To be accurate, obesity doesn't cause the varied types of arthritis you mentioned. Nor would it be impossible to rule out for obese people. Simply mentioning "possible symptom" is itself evidence that it is not a direct result of obesity. Even the fact that it might be approached or treated differently would reveal the same.
9 out of 10 of these women bitching about people calling them fat will 100% insult a guy for being short, or bald so. The shallowness of this generation is crazy.
I've been on both sides of the spectrum--fat and skinny. I'm at a normal weight now. I hate that when I look up "bikinis for curvy girls" or "two-piece swimsuit for large bust", the results automatically show me obese people. Like, I just want to see curvy women with my own body shape so I can gauge how I would look on this or that type of swimsuit.
Gaslighting yourself into thinking skinny=healthy is just as insane. Look as Asmon, spent his whole life thinking that being skinny meant everything was fine, and now he's literally on the verge of death. Being obese doesn't do you any favors, but you're hopeless if you think that's all their is to health.
All I gotta say is that crazies took over everything when they shut down the mental asylums. Had they instead made it so they keep the asylums in check instead of just shutting them down to save on tax money, we wouldn't be here now
Yep, that's the inherent flaw in word/thought policing. The concept described never ceases to exist, so people simply pick a new word. 5 years later, that new word is the new "offensive slur".
I'm obese. It's not something to celebrate. Spent the last two years eating less and going to the gym; lost a ton of weight, but still obese (it takes time, especially without drugs). People shouldn't be glorifying obesity; similarly, if you encounter obese people, don't assume they're happy with it or not trying to fix it.
I'm in the same boat but as i do not have the money for a gym membership and being an amputee it's even harder. got my a1c down to just over 8 from being almost 11 for a1c. going with 647 bread or that keto bread that has it equaling 1 carb helps. drinking water more. cutting out having even diet soda and snacks helps greatly
That's awesome! I was in the same boat after I finished college about 10 years ago. Nearly 70 pounds heavier than I should be for my height. I've still got about 20 pounds left to go, but if I can get there, anyone can!

About the tiktok of the doctor. If you're obese the first thing the doctor should tell you is to lose weight. Is the best solution to rule out the majority of the problems, and if the problem persists THEN you get further studies. Besides, when being too obese you can't even fit in an MRI scanner so a lot of testing can't be done until you lose weight.
@@DaGoon_when did op mention bmi? In fact, not only did op not mention bmi. Op gave you a definition for obese that is completely removed from bmi. What is wrong with you,m
"I want a solution to my problem".... so long as it requires no physical effort, no changes to the things I over-indulge in and no personal accountability.
Well you can not over indulge and yea you'll lose weight, but you won't notice it till a year. You need a combination of not over eating and exercising to burn the fat reserves, or just starve yourself and have your fat reserves fuel your body but that'll hurt.
Depends on the problem. For example I've been having pain in the lower part of my legs for over a decade (around the ankle region including the feet), after 2-5 minutes of walking I need to stop, feet go numb and muscle hurts worse than a cramp. I haven't sought medical attention for it until now because I was told "it's because you're fat, just lose weight" and that was when I was just a bit overweight, not even close to obese. Problem was walking was how I burned most of my calories so obviously I became obese after a while - I lasted a year pushing through the excruciating pain in my legs until I sunk into depression and that put an end to it. Eventually I did lose the weight, got into normal range and guess what? Pain still there, if I had sought medical attention for it then instead of blaming it on my weight, I wouldn't have gone obese, I wouldn't have avoided getting out of the house and meeting with friends, maybe that would've helped with my depression too.
Obese, at least to my ear, sounds so much worse than just fat lol. And I used to be morbidly obese before I got off my fat ass and dropped 120 lbs. And I'd rather be called fat than obese.
If some people want to use an alternative term instead of the medical term, here are some alternatives that you can use: - Gravity Submissive - Volumetrically Expansive - Space Occupancy Divergent - Elevator Limit Assessor - Weight Lover - Medical Issue Advocate - Food Quantity Prioritization Participator - Altitude Challenged
Fat being attractive in the middle ages is a stretch... The ideal female back then was no where near the size of a lot of these chicks saying this shit. This also varied a ton on the culture.
Agreed. Too many people lack a basic level of respect and sympathy on both sides. Unfortunately it’s clear that one side is way worse, claiming to be inclusive yet they are the most hateful to anyone that even has slightly differing opinions.
people want respect without earning it, its ridiculous, no one deserves respect, it has to be earned, and it is mutual. never respect anyone by default.
Just want to touch on what asmond said about doctors dismissing underlying issues. I myself and somewhat larger guy (not morbid just lack of exercise) and I went to the Dr for years about back issues and was told to lose weight. Even after dieting and losing 50lbs the issue persisted. Eventually went to a specialist and had an MRI done to find I had 4 herniated discs in my spine from a car wreck years prior. I'm not defending fat positivity by any means. I have a fully functioning brain and know it's bad an many levels, just playing a bit of devils advocate to say that the Dr. In this vid (an asmond) are correct.
I was diagnosed with cushing's disease (high cortisol caused by tumor) and I am pretty sure that's how I went from weighing 125 lbs to 300 in a span of 2 years. I got surgery and I haven't lost anything yet but I'm hoping it solves the problem. So yeah, not all obesity is people's fault honestly.
I think doctors should recommend the more obvious solution (as it is the correct solution in many respects even outside of weight), but once the solution doesn’t work other solutions and diagnoses should be explored. Though as a nurse I tend to find when a doctor does a wide array of tests, it can usually find the hidden problem if there is one. Yea hope ur doctor learned his lesson!
Your doctor was still right to tell you to lose weight, because your weight was masking the underlying issue. Occam's Razor; remove the obvious cause first, and if the symptom persists then it warrants further investigation.
@@CuteAnimeGirl Does Cushing's Disease give you the ability to photosynthesise? Because if not, you were eating too much food and that's what caused you to gain weight. Your disease might have given you more of an appetite, but it can't make you gain weight; you still have to eat the food for that to happen. I'm fat, by the way. It's time we all started being honest about why we're fat. It's because we eat more food than we need to. That's the only reason.
In one of her examples she says cocaine and heroin are no longer used as anesthetics. To be fair, I never liked how my previous doctors used to just tell me "You're obese" and You're fat" and sound like an ass when I was a kid. I had one doctor tell me I was obese, and he said it in a very nice way and even offered advice on how to reduce my weight. I was thankful to how he didn't just rudely tell me I was fat and move on. He leveled with me as a kid, and I appreciated that. I'm still obese, and I've no excuse for it, but I sure as hell am not morbidly, nor am I parading along with this "body positive" stuff. 💀
My body mass index went from morbidly obese to just overweight. I couldn't be happier and more proud to be "overweight." I only have to lose another 10-20 pounds to be at a normal BMI.
BMI is an absolutely useless measurement. I am 6 foot three 230 pounds with less than 10% body fat and it says that I'm almost morbidly obese... It's trash. You should be on fat percentage in lean mass. How you look and how you feel. BMI is absolutely meaningless
Congrats, I am nearing that threshold myself, will cross it somewhen this year. That won't make me stop, I will reach that normal BMI in the future! I have been morbidly obese for most my life, since the age of 11, so this might be late but better late than never!

It's getting more common that huge, wardrobe shaped coffins are being used for obese people. Sometimes its a tight fit for the cremator, and can cause some pretty bad turbulence in the main chamber, causing damage to the refactory brickwork, etc. When it's someone that big, the fat can start leaking out too, causing damage to components of the cremator. As you can imagine, it ain't nice cleaning that up either.. In a few years, you're gonna see a lot of crematoriums have to gut out their cremators for even bigger cremators just to keep up with the demand of more and more obese people. Edit: It's also a risk for our musculoskeletal health. Ive nearly put my back out wheeling around coffins of this size.

The term "obese" in my case was the catalyst for my transformation. Was told I was "clinically obese" when I was 18. Body positivity stops when it's unhealthy. you can be a little chubby, totally fine. a literal few extra pounds is perfectly fine. When you can hide a sandwich in your folds, that's a severe health issue.
Positivity is just being positive, nothing more, nothing less. Uplifting individuals working out to get in shape. Helping individuals that are struggling in maintaining weight. Encouraging individuals that wish to lose weight. But responsibilities still exist, and consequences aren't going anywhere. Indulging in a lie to simply be more positive is counterproductive.
Body positivity is serious BS. The flesh is weak. Body neutrality is ok. If it's meant to do a thing and it is doing it well then it's ok, if not, there is a problem waiting to be fixed. Obesity is a serious health concern.

There are other privileges to being fat; i am currently losing weight (I've lost 20kg/44lbs since the end of last year; have a long way to go before im healthy and happy with my body but im doing it), by eating less and doing more exercise. My exercise of choice is swimming and nobody wants to swim next to a fat guy so I usually get a whole swimming lane to myself.
That's because you take up all the space in the pool... But you got this, you are going to make it and hopefully you, physically, will feel better in the future and can extent your life by a few years. Godspeed to you.
Very true. My little sister used to be a normal and friendly girl but got influenced by this cancer ideologie few years ago. She becomes extremely violent when we talk about this matter or even just invite her to a walk. Not long ago, my mom literally asked me to pause my job to give my sister a lift because she couldn't take the 3min walk to her dentist appointement...
The best recently example that blocking a word doesn't change anything AT ALL is, that YT didn't like the word "Dead" or "Died" so ppl just using now "Unlived" instead, which sounds super dump and literally change NOTHING about the Problem :D
There's nothing wrong with a little self love but bragging to the internet about being obese is the equivalent of bragging about being an alcoholic or drug addict. It's unhealthy, and it can lead you to the end of your life quicker, it is nothing to be prideful about. If you're fine with that then whatever, you do you, but don't be pissy when people call you out for it.
This is what happens when you grow up being told everything bad that happens to you is the cause of a power structure outside of your control. WHY did we expect them to turn out differently?
Let me say that that doctor is correct. I was overweight. Weighed about 290. It concerned me so I started eating better and working out. I did not drink soda. I refrained from fast food. I ate one meal a day and that was lunch. I was not losing weight. I started feeling physically ill. My back started hurting so bad I had to stop working. After a week of that it was only getting worse and I actually could not eat or drink without getting violently ill. It got to the point where I had to go to the ER. They diagnosed me with complete kidney failure due to a disease that made my kidneys into scar tissue. I had been to a few doctors previously and they recommended nothing but eating better and vitamins. Lots of good that did me huh. So I got stuck in the hospital for 3 weeks and put on hemodialysis. I went from 290 to 190. All of that weight was water my body could not get rid of. Go to a doctor that wants to check every possible avenue of potential illness. It will probably save your life or at least prevent a horrible future.
Sadly, that happens with a lot of diseases. Early diagnoses are lifesavers and sometimes you don't get them for a reason or another. I've been mocked by relatives sometimes because I had something that I didn't know what was it about and told them I wanted to see a specialist to get it checked. They laughed it off telling me I was hypochondriac and that they have this and that and just deal with it and never went to a doctor because it's nothing. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn about being stoic, you don't win any prize for not getting checked. Best you can win is an undiagnosed illness. I'd rather be mocked and called anxious rather than not get diagnosed. Of course you don't have to panic whenever you have a headache and jump to conclusions, especially reading unrelated stuff on the internet and self diagnosing. Now THAT is indeed hypochondriac behaviour. But to get actual issues diagnosed by a professional, especially if it lasts more than a few days, is paramount. What really annoys me is when you get those doctors that minimize issues and tell you "yeah, you got this and that, but I wouldn't do anything about it for now, as it's not that advanced", and then you have an issue and doctors say "if you had it checked immediately, it could have been easily solved". I mean, let's put all doctors in a room together and have them argue with each other until they reach a common standard. I know medicine isn't an exact science like math, but still...
Literally me and I work out and everything but I started gaining weight my legs seem to get bigger and my lower back was hurting so I went to check it out with a doctor and he told me I had kidney failure from some bacteria that had entered me body.
I'm glad that you were concerned about your health to the point where you looked for answers and did something about it. I hope you're much healthier and happier now, genuinely.
Jesus Christ .. Blame everybody but yourself. We've been through this. Work on yourself and stop shifting the blame. I've been through it. It's not hard. Its called selfcontrol and thats the only way to change. Use that energy to work on yourself instead of getting mad on the internet. Count your Calories and change your habbits.
I agree. However this behavior is incentivized. Being "oppressed" or a "victim" is a full time job with benefits. That's why this behavior is so prevalent. It's way easier for these people to point the finger and pass blame. Instead of looking to the mirror (both literally and figuratively) and fixing the issues.
@@Hath.0 well yes. thats the issue. Fix yourself instead of blaming others. How can you wanna portrait yourself as a victim in front of other people. You are only a victim of yourself, your lack of self control and awareness

Obese is a medical term defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health.
Except obesity isn't very clearly defined and BMI is not a great heuristic for obesity when body fat percentage is possible to measure.

100% accurate, these are exactly my thoughts

The biggest problem (pun intended) that obesity causes in my day to day life is a random one..
I work at a crematorium.

One thing I don't expect is media and government listen more to these people, by making random law or censored word easily to protect their feeling..
For every rare condition 5 GP doctors scratch their heads and give token advice.
I was just turning 20 at the time. So even the doctors were surprised I had a kidney failure

@@TonkiTV i think to an extent the "anti bullying campaigns" just made the problem worse. Alot of these issues never get to the point they are now if they were called out/laughed at when they started thier shit. If most people got called fat or weird they would attempt the problem or do a little self reflection.
What used to be considered "the world's fattest person" about 50 years ago, is just the average American Walmart enjoyer.
This is true, and also the best way to love yourself. There's a very clear difference between loving yourself and indulging yourself, which many people to be unable to see the difference with
Sometimes the medical condition causes obesity. Maybe they need to see a doctor. I do know people that try to lose weight that can't. Either way, they need to take care of themselves
“Science isn’t necessarily updating our understanding of science is updating” great quote!
Not really, science is our knowledge, not the physical truth. So science does change to approach physical truth.
