DIY Furniture Pads That Don't Collect Hair or Dust and Still Protect Your Floors!

- I absolutely hated how hair and dust were always getting caught on the bottom of my chairs! I needed a solution, and after doing some research, I found out that leather does not attract hair, so I thought... "why not make furniture pads out of leather!?" That is exactly what I did! I found a leather belt from the thrift store, cut it to size and super glued those babies on!
UPDATE: IT WORKS! :D

Soooo!? Did it hold up? I’ve been desperately trying to find a solution that actually holds!
Yes!!! It does hold up, there's no hair! However, the chairs don't slide as well as if they were on felt pads. I have conditioned them with a leather balm, which helps them slide.
I LOVE this idea!!! Thank you for the tip about and leather balm too!!
@Mark Mowadeeb ohhh maybe! But I feel like the softness of the fabric fibres just attract the hair and collect thems
@Mark Mowadeeb I'll look it up! Thanks ☺️
What a great idea! As I was watching this, I thought "where am I going to get pieces of leather?" Your suggestion to use an old belt is so smart. I never would have thought of it. I made these for my kitchen chairs and they turned out great. I'm now going to make them as pads for all my furniture. :)
Yes!
Do the leather ones glide smoothly? I hate how the felt ones start sticking and scraping after only a few weeks.
@StrangerInTheTubb you have to rub a leather balm on them whenever they stop sliding!
@@VanessaCreates got it. Thank you!
Best video on UA-cam. I've been searching for a while to find a solution for this same issue. Thanks for sharing!
Wowow thank you! I hope this solution works for you🥰
@@VanessaCreates So far so good. I traded the felt out on all our kitchen island chairs. Thanks again!
@nicolaiprowse3893 no problem! Just remember to keep adding the leather balm so it slides nicely!
@@VanessaCreates had to use dubbing but have some leather balm on order.
Woohoo! I’m so happy I found your post after searching for answers🤓
I have long blonde hair, a “sheddy ” hound dog and two black cats 🐈⬛ 🐈⬛ one of which is a Maine Coon😫 I can’t wait to try your super idea! Thank you!🥰
Ahaha I hope this helps 😘
Amazing!!! This is so helpful! There's always so much hair on the ground
:D
This is brilliant, thank you! I think I'll wrap a thin slippery fabric around the leather before attaching to the bottom of the legs. Should still avoid the hair trap, while giving a bit more slide function. Thanks for testing this out and sharing.
OH that's genius! Please let me know if that helps it slide and doesn't trap hair!
@@VanessaCreates wouldn't have thought of it without your solution and testing! I am disabled and move slow so it might be a while but I'll try and report back.
@@willbephore3086 I'll give it a go too! I'm trying to think of fabrics that will work too, my first thought was pantyhose material but that collects dusts! I'll hit up the fabric store and look around ☺️
@@VanessaCreates oh nice. I was thinking more along the line of silk or some kind of slippy polyester like some scarves are made from ... 🤔 It will definitely be a fine balance between thin and slip enough to not catch hair, while being thick and sturdy enough to slid on the floor without tearing.
@@willbephore3086 oh yeah! That could work
WOW! You need to PATENT that idea & mass produce them. You would make a TON of money! - Susan Burns
Hahah! You think?!
Hello! I has been searching for a solution to this problem too! Genius, great idea, thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome!
You should show how easily the chairs slide in and out from the table
That’s a great idea! I’ll film a UA-cam short, I’ll link it once posted 🤗
Good idea, how's the dragging, or sound when moving them? My chairs are loud and annoying when people bump them or drag. Thinking of doing this, or using some kind of sponge 😄
Oh a sponge is a good idea! Let me know if that works! Dragging them, they get a little stuck if I haven't put the leather balm on. They're hard to move once sitting on them.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS! THIS!!!! Exactly what I am looking for! I have a whole kit of leather scraps. I need some leather wax tho. My mom, me & 2 cats... By-the-way, How often do you need to condition the pads? When I mop, I always put the chairs upside down on the table to they are already in position to condition. Once a week or can I skip? THANK YOU! :*
Hahah I’m so happy you found this video!!! You know I don’t condition them as often as I should! But whenever they loose their slide
Brilliant and gorgeous
thank you!
Great idea. Thank you for the video. Does it also protect the hardwood floor from scratches?
Yes! But I notice if I'm not on top of adding a leather balm, I will get marks from the leather on the wood, but theyre not to hard to buff out
Good idea. I may try this.
Let me know how it goes! :)
@@VanessaCreates
It is showing scratches on the floor. We have old Bruce prefinished wood floors in our dinning room. The chairs get move in and out a lot. I expect a little grit gets stuck in the leather and causes the scratching. For furniture that is not moved much I think this strategy would be better.
@@bobadams1696 Oh no! Even with a leather conditioner to help them slide?
Excellent ! That's exactly what I've been looking for all these while Thanks for sharing, Vanessa
Oh good!!
Such a great idea! Thank you for the inspiration. You and your sister are beautiful girls....How do the chairs slide? Do they slide as smooth as the felt?
Thank you! No sadly they’re not as smooth! But I use a wax on them that helps
I am sooo excited to find your UA-cam hack for replacing hairy felt pads with leather pads made from a belt! I have a black German Shepherd which is said to be the most shedding dog there is and a beautiful short hair black cat. Combine that with white beach vinyl floors and I am constantly vacuuming, running the Roomba, and mopping! I always have to pick the lint of my dining room chairs and any furniture that moves and it’s a revolving door to clean. Anything to make this easier is so appreciated.
Tell me what kind of leather wax did you use?
And what side of the belt touches the floor?
any clear leather conditioner or wax! I like to use natural ones like mink oil :) I put the shiny leather side down
Wonderful idea! What are you cutting ON?
Thank you! It's a self-healing cutting mat!
love it
big thanks and thumbs up
👍🏼
very lucky chair
Thanks
By the way, can the leather pad slide or drag smoothly on wooden/marble floor?
Not sure about marble! They're a little stiff on wood but I just condition them and that helps
Brilliant!
Thank you! I'm so happy it works
Does putting the leather conditioner make it collect dust or hair? Do you apply it and let it dry? Sorry, haven't really ever worked with leather
No, it doesn't! I let it dry and reapply when needed :)
Does the leather slide well? Back and forth under table?
Not really, but Ill add a leather wax and that helps
Have these held up? I had a problem with the felt ones falling off.
Yes!!! It does hold up, there's no hair! However, the chairs don't slide as well as if they were on felt pads. I have conditioned them with a leather balm, which helps them slide.
