What a great tutorial, thank you. I'm really struggling to make the leap to online classes but I don't have a choice. It's either move online or lose my business. Videos like yours are super helpful, so thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You are AWESOME. Thanks for the tips. Next week I’ll start to teach online classes and I want to make sure these classes will be as good as my personal classes 🙏
Great info. I have a tip I like to share. I just happen to have a 2 sheets of cardboard that about 7 feet tall 4 feet wide. I took two lime green sheer curtain and stapled it to the cardboard and wala colorful back drop. I google cardboard sheets they were $19.95 for those measurements i shared. Thank you for you upbeat energy. best wishes to you and family.
Carmen I LOVE THAT! I just purchased some fun colored lights off amazon and I’m super excited to include them in my classes :) hope you’re staying safe and healthy!
How do your headphones work with your computer. Currently my computer has a built-in mic but it’s so old it does not have Wi-Fi. I’m looking at upgrading my computer and to my understanding the one that I want does not have a built-in mic but it does have Wi-Fi. Do you just sing the Wi-Fi with your computer? And does that work with ZUMBA when you share your computer sound?
Awesome video and information! You saved our club a lot of money in equipment we may not need when this pandemic/restrictions cease to hinder our industry. Thank you!💪🙏
Thank you for the great info ! I had a trial run with my first videos & I learned the hard way the importance of audio 😃 Turns out my Powerbeats Pro worked better than the airpods because of the high movement
This was a HUUUUUGE help!. I now have (hopefully) only 1 problem left. My attendee on ZOOM hears me & Spotify, but I do not hear the music in my blue-tooth headset with mic. Kinda tough to teach without the beat!!
Bernadette - Plymouth Canton Pilates I know some people have had issues with cheaper options (not sure if that’s yours or not) but unfortunately I’m not really a sound expert by any means. I would maybe try a google search with your specific headset. Hope you find a solution!
Thank you for all this!!... OMG you gave some great tips (the music one is the one I've heard first, so simple... I was gonna buy a mixer, but right now I don't have incomes .. so, no money!).. Thank you for your honesty too. wish me lunch, this next 2 weeks are gonna be my try-out to see if I'm in the place to charge.
Great tips, Justina! I have a small space too - and my background is far from ideal... but this gives me motivation not to let it get me down and stop be from filming!
Thanks for the video, lot's of great info, can you elaborate on the audio hack? that is the most crucial. Or is there another video regarding that. Thanks Olympia
Hey! Try checking off the "Share computer sound" box on the bottom left before sharing the sound (8:48). That helped me a lot when I want to share sound with my students.
Thank you for taking the time to educate those of us who have found ourselves in another “world”. Teaching at home is a whole new thing to get used to after teaching 27 years in a studio. I have a question do you have to have a computer? Can you do the same thing with an iPad. I’m having trouble finding how to share my music in my iPad Pro. Any help would be grateful!
FYI....In case anyone else has this problem of music not coming into the teacher or the student's ears when using Zoom/Spotify/Jabra. Turns out the problem we had was just a couple of settings on my desktop. Under the SOUND setting (advanced option) -> app volume and device preferences we typed Jabra into the output box. Secondly, we had paired Jabra to my desktop, but had not connected it. Went to Settings-> device & made sure the audio for Jabra was paired & connected.
Hey, Very helpful video. Thanks a bunch. Quick Q: you are playing music from your device that is videoing you, yes? So when you talk, the music volume automatically adjusts? I thought I'd have to get a USB mixer to do that. Thanks again for sharing...you're funny! lol
Hey Jenny - yes I play the music from my computer, which is what I'm using during class to teach. But the music won't automatically adjust. You'll have to do that during class manually. Hope that helps!
Hey there!! My question is if you are teaching in a more open space, how is the music for you as instructor since the music is coming from computer? Is it loud enough to be engaging for you or is there a way to amplify the music from computer out loud for the instructor ?
Hey there. Great video. I too am a fitness instructor in a NYC apartment -- with 3 kids to boot, how fun. :) Anyway, I know you mentioned your husband got you the ring light so maybe this is a question for him but I see prices ranging from $25-$100 -- do I need to go expensive or are the ring lights all very similar? Also, what size do you have? 2. Thanks so much and may have to pop into your class sometime.
Hey, thanks so much for watching! I don't think you need to spend a ton on a ring light. Just read the reviews. The one I have is linked in the description box of the video. And yes I would love to have you! I'll check out your classes too :)
That was fun! I like your personality. Thanks for sharing what you have learned. When I screen share my audio I have to turn it almost all the way down or my students say it's too loud or they have a hard time hearing me. The problem is then I can't hear the music. In other words it comes through their speakers a lot louder than it comes through mine and as I said, I literally have it turned almost all the way down on Spotify on my laptop. I use a Blue Snowball mic for my instruction. The mic works well. How can I hear my own music and why does the music sound loud to my students when I have it turned down so low that I can barely hear it?
Hey Suzanne, thanks so much for watching! Yeah I actually made a follow up video talking about my volume levels. I usually have my computer sound all the way up but my spotify sound to about 30%. As far as hearing yourself, I use wireless headphones so I just connect those as my speaker. I bet if you have some you can use both the snowball mic for instruction and then connect separately your headphones as the speaker. I talk about this more in my 2nd zoom video if that's unclear. I hope that helps and thank you again for watching!
@@JustinaErcole Thanks Justina. I will check the video out. it was funny today I did the most simple thing that I've done the whole time I've been teaching. so I just had my snowball mic like I usually do and I simply had my phone by me and play the music off my phone at allowed volume and it didn't compete with my voice because I had the selections in audio on Zoom disabled that try to filter out background noise and I have the original sound option turned on. It seems to work best than any of the methods I've tried so far including streaming. And was the most simple. Next class I will hook it up to my little JBL speaker though because it has better sound than my phone. The thing was the volume was good for me and my students and it didn't cut out.lots of trial-and-error with these things and asking for feedback but I think I've got a pretty good product now if you will. It's good to have options.
Hi Justina, I really appreciated this video as I'm just getting into Zoom teaching as well. I was curious if you have any tips on recording yourself teach while still being able to see all your participants in the thumbnails, not just a few. I have an idea but haven't had a chance to try it and am curious what you've used. Appreciate the tips!
Hey! So if I'm recording my class, I first make sure I'm on spotlight so it only records me. Then I just take some time once the class is set in an exercise to go to the screen and scroll thru their screens to give corrections. It takes some time to get a good flow and each class is different, but just start playing with it and you'll find what works for you. Hope that helps!
Thanks for a great video! I stream my live classes on Zoom and am wondering if you have a workaround where I can both play the music out loud for my in person participants and share the audio via Zoom? I am using AirPods as my microphone. Which I have to say I don't recommend. Not the best quality audio at all!
Hey Andrew, thanks for watching! Unfortunately you'll need a slightly more complex set up. Here's a great video that explains step by step everything you'll need: ua-cam.com/video/FJrKY10pivU/v-deo.html
Very informative and helpful! So I just bought a RODE wireless mic for teaching mat Pilates virtually. Could I easily do sound sharing for music and use that mic from my laptop?
Hi thanks again for you awesome and helpful videos. I ve recently started teaching my dance classes via zoom. Not sure this is the best place to send my question which is can I use my MacBook Air to watch students BUT use my smartphone (Huawei p20 lite which has better camera- I think) to broadcast OR do I need to get a web camera?
Hey Daphne, thanks so much for watching! Unfortunately you'll need to use either the laptop's camera or hook up a web camera. I've found that with good front light that you don't need a better camera than the one found on a Macbook Air. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for this, I'm using my laptop for zoom and sharing the music through that, however when I step away from the laptop they can't hear me. Could you possibly demonstrate how the microphone works please - does it come through a separate speaker or is it picked up by the laptop (sorry, I am clueless as regards this) 😭
Hey Yvonne, thanks for watching! I have a follow up video showing exactly how to connect your headphones so they act as the speaker and mic. Hopefully that helps! ua-cam.com/video/FiH0olJuw38/v-deo.html
First of all, I took your stretching class yesterday and loved it! Second, what are you using as a microphone when you teach now? I noticed you were using different beats than in this video!
Hey Mikaela, it was so great having you! I’m using the Powerbeats Pros now. But be wary that if you sweat a lot, the mic will become really fuzzy. Hope that helps!
Hi Justina, your videos have been so beyond helpful! Do you have any tips on how to deal with the delay there is with music when sharing audio from your computer? I will be teaching a zumba class, so being on beat is very important. Or is this just an unavoidable issue? Thanks so much!
Hi Maria, a lot of that depends on people's individual internet speed. So to get around that there's another way to set up your sound with a mixer. Below is a really helpful tutorial! ua-cam.com/video/FJrKY10pivU/v-deo.html
When we used earbuds and "shared" music it caused a delay and seemed like the instructor was off beat which is not acceptable for dance. So we figured out how to change the settings in zoom so your music sounds better and you use an external mic. Just go to audio and advanced settings - a few clicks and boom - 100% better sound with zoom
I have found that happens if my clients have a poor connection. Otherwise I haven’t had that issue. But that’s great that you figured out how to take down the max on your settings!
Thank you! You video was super helpful! Any suggest on what type of device to use for virtual classes? When I teach, my viewers can’t see my feet and if I go back too far the picture is blurry.
Justina Ercole Thank you so much for responding. I’m using a dell. I purchased a webcam, but it only shows horizontally. I’ll try hubby’s Marc tomorrow.
Hello from Greece! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with this video! I teach high impact dance on zoom and am looking for equipment to buy to optimize sound (wireless sport set and mixer ). Can I ask do the wireless beats you show on the video work for teaching while dancing or is it better to use the headband wireless mic for better grip?
Happy it helped Daphne! With dance, there's going to be a delay in the music. This video breaks down the best set up: ua-cam.com/video/uM22_Jw2hqI/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Hey Justina, I intend to start teaching Pilates outdoors now, will the Beats still be ok for you, in terms of the background noise? Or what else would you suggest, is there a particular model designed for active / passive noise reduction? Cheers sonia x
Hey Sonia, I haven’t tested mine outside but I imagine it shouldn’t be too bad. And I’m not super knowledgeable on tech, this is all I really know. Sorry I’m not more help!
Hey Justina- I am a Personal trainer and a public speaker. Two questions- what app did you use to edit and upload this video using your I phone? as thats what I am using to edit an upload videos and I use face time for my clients. 2nd- what mic do you use for your coaching? I am looking for a wire less mic. Thanks for the information and stay healthy.
Hey! I edit everything on iMovie on my computer. And when teaching I use my Powerbeats. I have a link for them in the description of the video. Hope that helps!
🔥Hey Justina! Awesome tips, THANKS a lot for sharing value. Do you know a way to share iPhone music/audio teaching on Instagram Live video instead of zoom? THANKS again and keep it up🙌🏼
Hey! Unfortunately I don’t think that’s an option. But luckily with Instagram Live, the sound quality playing from an external device is MUCH better than zoom. I’ve done it before and the sound quality of my music and voice were great. No mic needed. I hope that helps!
@@JustinaErcole Just gave yesterday my first fitness class online and followed your tips, THANKS again, you can see it on instagram @fituapp.sv cheers!
Thank you Justina for the tips! Love that you are sharing this information. I've done Zoom with my group classes and shared my music with my participants but they are still saying it cuts out at times. I haven't tried the microphone or EarPods system yet though. Would that make a difference? Do you see this problem of the music cutting out even with music sharing with your people?
I haven't had an issue with the music cutting out as long as I'm sharing my computer sound. But I also haven't taught without a mic since they can't hear me otherwise. Sorry i'm not more help!
Hey Gina, thanks so much for watching! Yes I can hear the music through them as long as I connect them as a mic AND speaker. I actually have another video that goes through this step by step. And the headphones I like are Powerbeats. They're linked in the description of the video. Hope that helps!
Hello quick question, I’m an student for a class in my case, but sometimes my coach is practicing after giving an example and I try to watch it to get it right but the camera suddenly change to other student, you know why that is? Thank you
Hey! It's because your instructor hasn't hit the "spotlight" button on their end, so it goes to whoever is making the most sound. So it seems like everyone may not be muted in class. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your video. I have been trying to use similar Bluetooth earbuds like you and sharing my screen, but as soon as I go into the meeting I can't hear the music at all, which makes it pretty difficult if I am doing a choreographed class. HELP!!! Do you hear the music through your earbuds? I feel like I am missing a simple yet crucial step.... (and yes, I test the mic and audio through their test feature and can hear all of that). I've seen people using a second device but would like to avoid that. Please and thank you for your guidance!!!
Hey! What type of bluetooth headphones do you have? I've heard of some older kinds unable to connect as the speaker in zoom. Maybe do a quick google search with your specific headphones and zoom speaker connection to see if anything pops up. Sorry I'm not more help!
Can you tell me If you use laptop for Live fitness classes or mobile phone? And how do you angle your laptop so that others can easily see your Form and all? And how do you Watch them either they are doing a correct form or not?
Happy to help! 1) I use a laptop so I can play music and see more of my clients at once. 2) I have two different set ups that I use (one for standing workouts, one for floor workouts) and I use the adjustable stand seen in this video. It just takes some time to find your perfect set up. 3) I typically demo an exercise, then come closer to the screen to correct form, motivate, etc, then I'll get back into the exercise with them typically. Hopefully that helps! And I have another video regarding zoom and teaching fitness online coming out this Saturday so keep your eyes peeled for that. It talks a lot about your Qs :)
Are you holding the mic in front of your face as you're teaching? If you're too far from the mic (whether be an external mic sitting next to your laptop or your laptop's built in mic), no one will hear your over the shared computer sound.
That's so sweet of you, because I actually hate my audio quality haha. I actually just use the mic on my camera (Canon G7x) but I'm looking to purchase an mic to improve the sound quality :)
Hi, Justina! Thanks so much for making this video - I felt really lost before watching it, and now I feel a little more confident :) Also! That’s so sweet of your husband to buy you that ring light as a gift! Hug him for me!! 💜 Justina, are you using a professional camera, or, just an iPhone??
I'm so happy I could help Adelaide! And yes, my husband is the sweetest :) As for the filming of my videos, I'm using a camera. Canon G7X. Let me know if you have any other Qs and thanks so much for watching!
Hi Justina. How do you get your Beats headphones to play music to you while you are sharing music audio via your computer to your clients? Are you using an Apple notebook or Windows 10?? :0)
Hi Jo, I'm using a MacBook Pro. On the button where it says "MUTE" on the bottom left, you should see a pop up arrow. Click on that and choose your Beats as your mic / speaker. Hope that helps!
@@JustinaErcole You truly are such a lovely person. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. It didn't solve my problem but I am using an Acer - windows 10. I've been toying with the idea of buying a Macbook. I was teetering and now this has completely suede me. Thank you so much. Once I've got all of this sorted I'm hoping to have some free time so I can join in some of your classes I reckon they are going to be great. Kind regards, Jo
Aw Jo I’m more than happy to try and help! I’m definitely not a tech expert and I know others have had some issues with this working so definitely look around to see if others have the answer before you drop all that money. Best of luck and would love to have you on the screen in class!
Thanks for the tips! Having an odd issue.... I can't hear my music through my powerbeats :( My participants can hear my music from itunes via the share computer audio option, and they can hear me via my mic on my powerbeats... but I can't hear my own music... which obviously is problem for teaching classes that require me to be on beat lol. suggestions? And yes, my powerbeats work... I can hear things like youtube videos and whatnot outside of Zoom.
Hey Lindy, thanks for watching! Have you made sure that you've selected your powerbeats as the "speaker" as well? Otherwise you won't hear anything thru them. I hope that helps the problem!
So weird! How old are your headphones? I’ve heard that older models have a harder time connecting. Oh also maybe check for an update for zoom. That’s an issue I’ve heard of too. Sorry I’m not more help!!
Hi, I had this issue today. It's an iTunes setting. Go to edit - preferences - playback - change "Windows audio session" (or something like that lol) to "direct sound" and then you should hear the music through your headphones.
@@constanzeslife Hi there I'm having the same issue with airpods. participants can hear music but not me. tried changing playback preferences now music just coming through laptop speakers. v frustrating! any suggestions?
Clients book directly thru my website on wix. But you can always make a google form and have people sign up there then use Venmo or PayPal for payments. And then send out zoom links. Hope that helps!
I’m having so many issues. I can’t seem to get my audio working. I teach fitness classes. It’s driving me insane. My classes are free. I have an HP Pavillion. Intel core7. I have wireless headphone & I know how to share my music on zoom. Please help. Can I do this on an Ipad. Help ,,,,
Hey! Sorry you're having so many issues. Unfortunately I can only speak to the system that works for me, so I'm not sure I'm the person to help. But I know that Zoom has a TON of free seminars for their paying members that have been super useful. Hopefully that helps!
Hello! I would like very much to know how I can successfully add music to my classes. I experimented with a bluetooth speaker in the background and it was horrible and was going in and out to the participants. What is the single best way to do this? I have Playlists on Soundcloud that I would love to utilize during my classes! Love, Cristiaana
Hey! I have a video that details this coming out tomorrow, but happy to share now :) You'l need to click on "SHARE SCREEN", click on the ADVANCED tab, and then SHARE COMPUTER SOUND AND AUDIO. But when you're doing this, you need to use a mic so the class can hear you. I use my Powerbeats but any kind of wireless headphones with a mic should work. Hope that helps!
@@JustinaErcole Really late to the party but trying to figure out the sound and fitnesses classes is driving me MAD. In this set up, you're not using any kind of mixer, right? Only the wireless mic and sharing audio? Really hope you see this & reply to it, would greatly appreciate it!

I know a lot of people who do that! Not sure of the set up though. Sorry I'm not more help!
@@JustinaErcole no worries!!
HI! Thank you! What kind of camera do you use?
Hey! On Zoom I just use the camera on my Macbook Pro. For filming I use my Canon G7X and Canon Rebel t5i.
Fab, thank you x
First of all, I took your stretching class yesterday and loved it! Second, what are you using as a microphone when you teach now? I noticed you were using different beats than in this video!
Hey Mikaela, it was so great having you! I’m using the Powerbeats Pros now. But be wary that if you sweat a lot, the mic will become really fuzzy. Hope that helps!
@@JustinaErcole oh okay! Great thank you 😊😊
Hi Justina, your videos have been so beyond helpful!
Hey Karla, thanks so much for watching! I use my MacBook Air to teach on and the video quality is typically fine. What are you using?
Justina Ercole Thank you so much for responding. I’m using a dell. I purchased a webcam, but it only shows horizontally. I’ll try hubby’s Marc tomorrow.
soooooo helpfull thank you
Happy to help! ☺️
Great work madam.
Thanks Jay!
This video breaks down the best set up: ua-cam.com/video/uM22_Jw2hqI/v-deo.html
Hope that helps!
sooo helpful!!
Happy to help! :)
Justina Ercole the power beets - is that a headphone like Bose? Or is it a lavalier mic? Because my bose headphones doesn’t make a diff. Thanks
Thank you for this video, great tips!!! Do you hear the music through the wireless headset? Do you have a recommendation for a wireless headset?
Hey Gina, thanks so much for watching! Yes I can hear the music through them as long as I connect them as a mic AND speaker. I actually have another video that goes through this step by step. And the headphones I like are Powerbeats. They're linked in the description of the video. Hope that helps!
@@JustinaErcole Thank you. I will give this a try, I appreciate your help!
@@JustinaErcole JLab in-ear headset bought two days ago. Thank you for the reply!
Can you tell me
If you use laptop for Live fitness classes or mobile phone?
@@JustinaErcole thank you for the reply. Helped alot..
Can you tell me while for standing exercises you use your phone with a stand or a laptop?
Question with zoom.. I understand how to share music..I have blue yeti external mic..but people still can't hear me..
Are you holding the mic in front of your face as you're teaching? If you're too far from the mic (whether be an external mic sitting next to your laptop or your laptop's built in mic), no one will hear your over the shared computer sound.
Hey there! What do you use to record the sound on your camera? It's very clear.
Great Video! I want to see you review Orange Theory.
I have a few videos on OTF already but have another coming out next week about their at-home workouts :)

@@JustinaErcole yep! It's selected as the mic and the speaker. Bummer :(
How and what can you charge for classes? Monthly? Weekly? Daily?
Hey! Personally, I charge $10 per class. But I also have packages set up on my website: 3 for $25 or 5 for $40. Hope that helps!
