This is really helpful!! There is so little content out there about teaching fitness in the online space and really being successful! I appreciate this!
Thank you for sharing all of this! As a group fitness instructor & (very new!) PT, I find this video extremely helpful and inspiring! I'd love a similar video on the PT side of things - how you set up your processes for online training etc! :)
So glad you enjoyed Conni! As far as PT goes, I only train two people virtually at the moment and then my other two clients i meet in the park nearby. But I can definitely stand to share more of that experience too :)
@@JustinaErcole Personally I'd love to hear more about it, even if you don't train a lot of people at the moment - the processes and things involved 'behind the scenes'! As you seem so organised and on top of it all. :)
I face problem of automatically connecting mic of web cam instead of connecting mic of Bluetooth headphone. Tried many times to fix that problem but didn't succeed. So I prefer using zoom in my smartphone. It worked good 👍.
Mahesh Ambre that’s good to know! I haven’t done zoom classes just yet but I have some coming up and I’m trying to figure out what the best set up is going to be!
This is helpful -- thanks. All seems a bit overwhelming for me, but I applaud your content as well as your authenticity. My biggest question is with regard to music and whether we really have to pay to play our spotify playlists in the background of our workouts. Seems like it is reasonable to have Crunch pay for that, but to make a solo trainer who isnt earning much in the first place...I don't know. My bet is most trainers are not paying while playing. Also if we do purchase this ASCAP license, does that allow us to only play from their platform or can we continue to use spotify or apple music? Thanks for whatever wisdom you can share.
You should still be able to play from spotify or apple music without any issues, you're just paying for the right to use the music. Honestly, I think you're fine to take the risk of using copyright music without the license if you're small. But it's always helpful to do a little research and just see what the best option is for you. Hope that helps a bit!
Hey Morgan! I have other videos that break this down (check out my teaching tips playlist.) And you can see the pricing for my offerings on my website.
You’re awesome for providing this info! Is the first step to teaching online classes, creating an LLC? Also, insurance is necessary, correct? In regards to music, getting a license through ASCAP would be the way to go?
Hey Maria! I don’t think you necessarily need to create an LLC right off the bat. Definitely depends on how much you’re teaching and making. I’m actually not sure about insurance for virtual. I’ve had it for years from personal teaching. And yep ASCAP is the way to go :) shoot any other Qs my way!
Thank you!! One other question about music licensing...is the license only good for live videos or does it still cover you for pre recorded classes that you upload?
Thanks for sharing all of this information. Since music is such an important part of your class (& it is to mine, too!), do you know where to find good music for fitness classes that is copyright free for use on Zoom? Or do you have any suggestions regarding music allowed for use on Zoom for classes generally? I do know how to share my screen so participants can hear the music I have on my computer.
Hey! If you want to invest in music licensing you can go through ASCAP and it's pretty affordable for the year. Otherwise you can use hellothematic.com for copyright free music!
@@JustinaErcole Thanks for this great video. I have contacted ASCAP but up to now I've not been able to identify just which license would apply. I do only live workouts/classes on Zoom; I don't record any of them for later posting. Do you know what license that would be? Website/mobile app? In the meantime I've just been contacting individual artists/record companies. Thanks and all the best.
@@npalus8374 honestly I don’t know. I chatted with someone to make sure I was purchasing the correct license because I have zero knowledge in the field. Sorry I’m not more help!
Love your sharing! In one of your videos, you showed a hot second of editing. What do you use to edit a zoom recording? Do you record your sessions locally (to your PC/desktop) or to Zoom's cloud?
Thanks Bernadette! I don't typically edit Zoom recordings, I'll just record in the app and save them locally to my mac when I need to. If I'm filming a class, I typically like to use my camera (canon g7x) and then edit in Final Cut. Hope that helps!
This was great, Justina! I'm so happy I stumbled on your channel this morning. As a yoga practitioner and teacher, I love that you aren't foregoing basic alignment cues and are incorporating movements so familiar to me, but I also need to do more strength-based workouts ... So you fit the bill so well. AND you're funny! Thanks for being here :)
This is a little random but do you have to be certified in order to lead group exercise classes? I did kung fu for a few years and after moving and not being able to go there anymore I ended up developing my own workout based on everything I learned in kung fu. It's my favorite and I'd love to share it with women either locally or online but not sure what the rules are about that.
Love that you were open w/what you're making. In this industry it's hard to have a frame of reference on where you stand. My husband and I owned a fitness club for over 20 years and I have been teaching exercise for much longer than that. I incorporated online training 4+ years ago. My focus is one-on-one personal training and small group training. Covid has boosted my existing business by about $2000 per month. I was fortunate to have already been training online when quarantine hit, so it was just a matter of shifting my in person clients to online (I prefer Skype).

Double comment but I had a question, for video and audio with zoom are you just using your laptop webcam and the Bluetooth headphones?
Yep! I actually have two videos specifically about using Zoom (link in the description box) in case you need to see it in action

Hey hey, how did the client get the Zoom links? Do you have to send the link to each of them or they will find it on Wix?
You can integrate Zoom with all bookings so it autopopulates the link.
This was really helpful greatly appreciated 😁

Have you tried to use eventbrite to schedule classes? Or do you have knowledge on eventbrite?
I help my husband w eventbrite every once in a while, but I’m definitely no expert
How do your customers get the Zoom link? Is that automatically sent through email via your wix signup? Tia! Appreciate all of your tips!
It’s sent automatically thru wix bookings for my private clients, but group fitness I send it out manually thru Wix 30 min prior
