- After talking with all of you and hearing your needs for your online zoom dance classes, I have found a solution that not only removes the need for wires attached to you, but also you no longer need to wear headphones if you are in a space with little echo.

*Plug the headphones into the headphone duplicator port where the computer speakers would normally be plugged in, now you can hear the music. However if you are using your smartphone for music, your students voices will be coming out of the laptop speakers so you will need to pop off the headphones to hear them. Hello again! I just got a MacBook Air today.. will I still be able to connect everything to this? I noticed there’s no USB port... eekkk
@@allanasacademyofdance5203 the newer Macbook computers now use something called USB-C. So all you would need is a USB-C to USB-A adapter to make the conversion. They do sell this at the Apple Store, our you can find some on Amazon like this one: amzn.to/2Qnqvjr

Can you contact me? - I believe I have everything set up - but for some reason Im having some issues. I am connecting through zoom however I am using an ipad. I have enabled "original sound" but am still not hearing the mic and/or music.

Thank you so much! I'm right there with you, I had to draw out diagrams to make sense of how the audio was routed. It all makes sense to me now that I've learned it, its quite fascinating! I've now been using this setup on my Zoom classes and the its been great, the students still hear me clearly, they don't hear the music feedback as I don't have it on a super high volume, and I'm able to move freely with the headset as I teach! I'm so glad you found this video and that it was what you were looking for! The one major things I've been seeing people not doing is purchasing the specific headphone duplicator cable I linked in the description. Because of this they are not able to get the music into the mixer or into the external speaker. So just make sure you get that specific cable and not a TRRS splitter (which is what most people with problems purchased).

I'm excited to have just discovered this UA-cam video. It's clear and thorough, and it addresses my problem of time lag with Bluetooth. Before I invest in equipment, I just want to check in with you to ask if there are any updates you would make to this information since you posted it almost a year ago. So glad you found this video and that it made sense the way I explained it!
As of this very moment, this is the cheapest setup that I have come up with that keeps things simple and all controlled at that mixer. I'm a bit old school and feel most people would prefer to have physical volume controller right there so that they can easily adjust music or vocal volume if students feel it's too loud or not loud enough.
This exact setup is also suitable for hybrid teaching, you simply plug your PA system into the Main Mix Output so that your live class can hear you through your mask and your online students will continue to hear everything else as demonstrated in this video.
A laptop is still the best preferred method as I have not found a suitable solution for people that want to use phones and tablets. It's hard to judge or calibrate your sound levels in those applications on the fly.
Lastly the microphone I use for this setup is just the most budget friendly that I am aware of that produces clear sound. There are of course many microphones out there to choose from, simply find one that fits your budget and preferred orientation (headset vs bodypack and wire) and you're good to go. All your sound calibration methods are exactly the same.

I was trying to use the Kimafun splitter and couldn't hear the music out of my speakers even though Zoom heard everything perfectly. I got the right splitter and now it's great!

I'm so happy to hear the previous video was helpful for your needs as we all went into teaching remotely! A lot of people have begun the hybrid model and this setup can do two types depending on where you plug the computer speakers into. Some instructors who have larger PA systems in their studios so that students can hear their instructions during a quiet yoga class and would like to use that while still making sure the Zoom students can hear to. In this case all you do is plug the PA system (or computer speakers) into the "main out or headphone port". Now your voice and music will come through the speakers in the studio and your zoom students will still be able to hear your voice and music like normal. A word of caution is how echo'ee your studio is as the echo could get back to your microphone, this is something all instructors need to test to find the threshold of how loud can they blast the speakers in a studio. But if this is not a need for your in-person classes, then simply plug the speaker into the headphone duplicator so that you can just hear the music only, but of course make sure you test how loud you can actually blast the music in your space.

I was just about to go purchase a $1000 laptop until I saw your video, instead I purchased a mixer for around $50 and a mic for $40 and voila, problem solved. I'm so glad this video was helpful! The one hurdle I haven't quite figured out is for vocal teachers that may be playing accompaniment for the student to sing to. While this is easy to do, there is a inherent lag time between you playing, the student hearing and singing, and their singing getting back to you. It's unfortunately not pure real time because of the internet, we haven't gotten to that point in technology where the lag time is under 8ms. Is this something you were thinking about?

@@TLDR_filmmaker with the accompaniment, I've resorted to sending pre-recorded tracks in an email which they can open from a separate device. I just tell them which track to go to and I can hear them sing with the accompaniment in real time. I'm just glad that I can be demonstrate a vocal passage with accompaniment from my end using the method you mentioned. 👌🏾

When everything gets to you, take your time and go through the step by step process. Once you go through the process it'll all make sense how the system works! @@TLDR_filmmaker Sorry to be back again...I've hooked all components (acer windows 10 laptop, Kimafun, Kimafun splitter, Pyle USB mixer, RCA stereo breakout cable, iPhone and external speaker) per your step by step. Problem seems to be the music is not going through the mixer. Kimafun mic is working fine. It seems mic is picking up the music because when i'm close to my external speaker it's fine but as soon as i step away from my speaker to dance floor the volume drops. I'm playing music via iTunes on my iPhone. I've fiddled with all the dials on the Pyle mixer. I can control the mic but not the music. Current setup in zoom has mic set to USB Audio CODEC and Speaker set to Realtek High Def. Changing speaker to CODEC does not resolve the problem. I seem to be stuck :-(
p.s. I may have stumbled upon something!! I'm using the splitter cable that came with the Kimafun microphone. It has a jack for headphones and the other is for speaker. I have the stereo cable in the jack for headphone and the speaker jack going to by external speaker. Is this splitter same as what you are calling headphone duplicator cable!?

No, the splitter cable that came with the Kimafun is not the same type of cable as the Headphone Duplicator cable. All you will need to do is get a headphone duplicator cable to get the music into the Mixer from your phone and then all should be working correctly.
@@TLDR_filmmaker No sooner did I send that first cry for help than I realized what was going on with the incorrect Headphone Duplicator cable. All seems to be working. Getting right balance of volumes is all left to do. Again many thanks for your guidance and great explanation

@@TLDR_filmmaker we can do it slow =] we can do it fast too (like Lambada). Brazilian Zouk today is actually a legacy of Lambada. Samba de Gafieira and Bolero elements were brought into the mix too, good eye!

A Smartphone setup is going to be a bit tricky and unfortunately I do not recommend doing it because of the many variables involved out of our control when it comes to using a smartphone as our Zoom client. Mainly getting the audio signal to it, each phone has a different idea of what constitutes as a "microphone" even when a TRRS plug is plugged in, I've tried a couple different methods and my iPhone constantly does not provide me the right mic levels, sometimes non at all.
My best advise is to use a laptop as your Zoom client device and then from there using the mixer you can determine if you'd like to use your laptop or smartphone as a music player.

The system I helped setup uses a wireless mic, Spotify music, and a USB mixer. It is being used for YMCA exercise classes. I have the wireless mic receiver going into the mixer in channel 1 and the Spotify music is coming from the same laptop that Zoom is live streaming on. Instead of sharing the laptop audio in Zoom I take the 1/8" headphone out of the computer carrying the Spotify music and send it to my mixer in channel 2. Then I send the USB out of the mixer into the Zoom Laptop and choose the USB mixer as my mic choice in the drop down menu in Zoom. I do it this way so the wireless mic and the Spotify music levels are easily accessible on the mixer's faders. Most of the students are online but a few students take the class in person. So there is an analog output of the mixer with the instructors voice and music being sent to a powered speaker so the in class students can hear. When I login and listen through zoom to any of the instructor's class I sometimes hear a warble and never feel the audio quality is great. Could the warble and low quality music be from a phasing issue with the wireless mic hearing the classroom music? Do you think there is any difference between taking the Spotify audio from the computer's headphone jack into the mixer compared to just using "Share Screen - Advanced - Music or computer sound only"? Curious what your thoughts are.

The warble is most likely because their Zoom Audio settings has the "suppress background noise" on. You'll want to turn this off so that it doesn't get confused and start to process the audio. If they are using a headset mic like I show in this video, they will want to double check that the mic is pointing in the right direction and as close to their mouth as possible. These mics are meant to be up close to the mouth so that it cancels out room noise in a fitness setting.
You do not want to do the Share Screen audio setting as you'll have no way to really monitor that audio level and it could have lag compared to the microphone being used.

I hope to get a similar set up as well - I was able to find the same mic and headset, however, the PYLE mixer seems to be sold out everywhere... Do you happen to have a suggestion for a similar compact mixer? In particular one that has no latency. Some that I have come across have bad reviews on that. (This is all very new to me, so your insight is incredibly appreciated!!)

For hybrid setups what you would is instead of connecting the external speaker to the computer headphone jack you would actually connect it to the mixers "monitor" port located on the top right. Now the speaker will play the music as well as your voice, basically exactly what your students hear and similar to that of a Zumba class at the gym. If the external speakers you have are not loud enough then you will have to get something like a PA speaker system or just a more powerful speaker that has an "AUX" port.

Unfortunately there is no way to overcome the copyright unless you have the license to use it, that is the only way when you are uploading a video to a platform. This setup is only meant for live teaching through zoom and other video conference software where you're not uploading a permanent video to a platform. However, when it comes to youtube, it depends on the artist song you use. UA-cam has an agreement with a decent amount of licensors where if you use a song, they will flag it and run ads on it in exchange that you get to still use the music in your video for your own creative needs. This is what youtube has figured out so that creators can still make videos that express their creativity. Its not perfect as some countries may block the video, but for the USA its pretty open. Hope this makes sense and helps!

I'm so glad this video is helpful in getting you comfortable with the idea of setting up a mixer for live workouts! I've listed everything in the description of what you need. The mixer may or may not be instock as it sold out the moment I released this video :(
But generally speaking, you simple need a mixer that has the qualifications I talked about in the "what you need section". To reiterate, you need one that can work as a "Audio interface". Generally the tall-tell sign that it will work this way is if the mixer has a USB port on the back NOT the front or top.
The specific model of my mixer I think had an update and has an extra button when it comes to choosing between USB and LINE inputs. While I know I talked about it, you can usually figure out which buttons you need to press to pass the Music through to the "main mix". All the mixers have a legend or description of what each button does. Do not be afraid to start pressing random buttons up and down to see what works if you don't immediately understand what its saying. You will not break anything on the mixer or your computer.

I've been using Zoom's share function to share the music and my students can hear the music sound very clear but time lag between the music and my movements was the issue and I'm trying to fix it with your methods. I purchased Behringer Xenyx 302 USB mixer and I use iTune on my laptop as music source, Bose soundlink mini for the speaker and Logitec HD C920s for video on Zoom. I use visual cues for my zumba class so I don't need to talk with a microphone during the class, just before and after the class to chat with my students. I've hooked up the mixer and the speaker as instructed in your video, set up the computer by choosing headphone for output and webcam microphone for input. On Zoom, I chose codec for speaker and the webcam for microphone. When I record the zoom to test, it sounds like the microphone of the webcam is picking up the music sound from the speaker rather than from the laptop and it doesn't sound good. When I mute the microphone and record it, there is no sound when i play the recorded video. Do I need to get a separate microphone to connect to the mixer even though I don't need to talk during the class? These may be dumb questions but any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Yes you need a microphone going into the mixer so that in Zoom you do the audio settings that I show in the video. Zoom needs the mixer to be the Mic so that the participants can hear the music, and you use the headphones as the zoom output so you can talk to the students. The way you have it configured now will not work.

I wanted to ask your opinion about few things. You are like the ONLY expert on this subject!!
So firstly I got this set up options to try - these are the items that I bought to test:
1. Behringer Xenyx 302USB mixer
2. Picomic wireless dual microphone
3. AirPods
4. Avantree 2 headphones to one receiver
5. Also I have an external dslr Mic just in case i need it
6. using MACbook Pro
7. Using DSLR as Webcam (canon's new utility drive allows this)
8. Various cables: TRRS TO TRRS, TRS TO TRS, TRRS TO TRS, XLR TO TRS, etc.
9. Various adapters...
FEW things:
1. I am not a fan of the fitness headset
2. I also am not a fan of using speakers for output as mic picks it up.
My questions are:
1) Let's say I am using Spotify or iTunes for music on MAC for a ZOOM class. Is it true that when I am using a Mixer and choose USB Codec as a microphone output - I no longer need to Share internal sound on ZOOM? I didn't catch this point. What happens if I share internal sound while USB mixer plugged in? Will my students hear music and my voice when I don't share the computer sound?
2) Will my voice be synced to music without latency if I connect
a) Picomic to Mixer - and
b) AIRpods to MAC and
c) set Microphone as USB Audio codec and speakers as AirPods?
3) If am correct there are 3 areas to select speakers output:
i) Settings on MAC
ii) Settings in ZOOM
iii) little speaker icon in top bar
my question is: For Settings and the top bar: Should any of them be selected on "ZOOM AUDIO DEVICE" ?
4) Apart from USB Line in which the red button on Behringer 302USB - what other button needs to be pressed? The titles are different than on Pyle - so I couldn't follow.
5) For reduced latency - must my headphones be connected to the mixer as opposed to the computer as AirPods?
6) IF I use Avantree and connect them to the mixer - will I get less latency than when using AirPods? Is using Avantree dual headphones better than using AirPods (we share 1 AirPods each) :) The great thing about AirPods is their Aesthetics and size. They are almost not seen in the videos. The Avantree is quite visible and the cord is hanging in the back - doesn't look as nice. But is one better than the other if I use a mixer Behringer 302usb? I would prefer to use AirPods really.
7) Why in your video did you connect Avantree system into mixer and Not to MAC ?
8) For maximum results in reduced latency - should I select on ZOOM: USB Codec as Input AND USB Codec as output? Since this will ensure that mixing all happens in the mixer? I don't really understand this part so well. And should i also select USB Audio codec as microphone AND USB codec as speaker in ZOOM app for lowest latency?
9) I read about this a lot in comments BUT I never really saw a concrete answer. Some people say they hear their voice in the headphones when they use a mixer - this happens when headphones are plugged in into the mixer correct? So is there anyway to DISABLE this ? So that I hear the music but I don't hear my voice?
10) If I wanted to - is there a way to connect a DSLR MIC (like rode or canon 90d mic with a TRS Male) into the mixer and use that as a MIC?
11) If I am using the Canon 90D as a webcam on ZOOM on MAC successfully :) which is great!! You should definitely do a video about this by the way! It's pretty new and Canon's website says that it doesn't work on ZOOM but it does! What I do is use a 10-18mm lens which makes the area where I teach considerably bigger - great ! Plus quality is better and the ability to zoom in or out anytime. Also I don't need any phantom power - Canon 90D battery lasts for like 5-6 hours when used as webcam on ZOOM - no problem - I just turned off the auto shut off option. But anyways - IF I am using the Canon 90D as a webcam on ZOOM on a MAC - if i connect my PicoMic into Canon while it is used as webcam - - is there any advantage to that ? Will that work at all? Will that add audio automatically and sync it with vide?

Hey DNA,
No, the music from external speakers will not echo back into the microphone. The examples right at the beginning of this video shows that it doesn’t and the music was playing louder than I needed for when I’m teaching.
I highly suggest this 2nd videos setup for music with your picomic as the mic. No need for headphones anymore and I repeat, “no, your music will not echo back” unless you purposely make it so by playing the music uncomfortably loud and and purposely strand right in front of the speaker.
1) Yes this is correct that this setup no longer requires you to share computer sound. While you could do a hybrid of sharing computer sound with the mixers mic, you run into the problem that you’re not able to accurately calibrate how loud the music is to your students vs your voice. The mixer, as I explain in this new version video, is the central hub that allows you to make very quick adjustments between your voice and music.
2) This unfortunately will not work as you will need the computer to have its output set to the mixer or headphone jack (this second version setup which I prefer). If you have the output set to your headphones you will not be able to get music to the mixer from your computer.
3) No, Input will always be set to USB Audio Codec. For output (based on this second video, the one I highly recommend over the first) it will either be set to “internal Speakers” if you are using a iPhone for music, or “headphones” if you are sending music through the headphone port to the mixer
4) If you follow the first video, press down on the Red Button for USB music from computer. If you follow the 2nd video where you now accept the music from the headphone port, you’d leave the Red button up for “line”… The black button next to it that says “TO” I would assume you need to send it to “main mix” so that black button should be Up (thats how I’m reading those little arrows whether button is pressed up or down)
5) Correct, this is simply because bluetooth earbuds do not use the APTX-LL protocol that cuts down on latency. I have not found a company that has made them. If they do, my setup would be completely different as I know the AirPods and un-wired dual earbud is the most desirable. But unfortunately this is not the case, for now, so we need to adapt with what we can to cut down on latency for the sanity of our students.
6) Yes, the avantree has lower latency than the Airpods because of the APTX-LL protocol. I would suggest moving over to the 2nd videos setup where you now run the music from the laptops headphone jack with the “headphone duplicator cable”. As I show in the video, one end using an RCA cable (for the behringer) goes into the mixer, the other will go into the avantree so that all you hear is the music and not your music and voice. If you plug the avantree into the mixer like I did in the first version, you will hear your voice too.
7) Because if I connect it into the mac, you no longer are able to feed the mixer a signal via USB or Headphone jack for music. So your students won’t hear music anymore.
8) As I show in this 2nd video with the finger analogy. Simply using a mixer where ALL your sounds are being routed to eliminates latency because its all coming from the same place instead multiple places with different wireless technologies. As you can see in the examples at the very beginning, this updated setup where the music is routed through the laptop headphone jack still does not introduce any latency when I am counting off. All sound sources are meeting at one spot before the computer gets it as a Mic source.
9) This is because of the original setup, when someone asked if there was a way to eliminate hearing themselves, this is where the 2nd video came in (The only I highly recommend). Again this second setup has no latency and a teacher can just teach normally without having to think about it.
Also I will say this, the mic will not pick up your music. I repeat again, the mic will not pick up your music. What you see you saw in the very beginning of this video is me doing this exact setup with my external speaker playing loudly inside a small kitchen and you cannot hear the music eco back. I repeat this setup does not echo back the music unless you purposely stand in front of a speaker and have it set to uncomfortable listening levels while you are instructing.
10) There is but its not recommended because you will be very far away from the camera your voice will not be clear. This is a highly not recommended setup.
11) This is an idea that I do not have personal experience with so everything I’m about to suggest is not tested and you will have to take on the risk to see if it works. Because you are using a DSLR as a USB webcam. I do not know how good the Canon program is to keep the video latency down going into ZOOM. You’re on the right track that you may want to route your mixer into the Canon’s Mic port so that the music and video are all coming from the same video source. The question is does the Canon program allow Zoom to use Canon DSLR as the microphone source. If it does then you will want to get a “3.5mm LINE to MIC attenuator cable” to feed from the mixers “headphone port” to the cameras mic port. You will then press down that little black button I talked about earlier to send the mixer music to “phones” and not “main mix”
After that all your music, video, and mic will all be coming from the camera's protocol and there will in turn be no latency between your video and audio.
You honestly have the ultimate setup here and I wouldn't go searching further, trying to add more things to the setup will only yield diminishing returns or introduce a whole new set of problems that ultimately take you away from your teaching. My setup and research that went into this video has already eliminated the Latency problem, this is as low latency as you can possibly get through the internet realm, it literally cannot get any better than this.
So, from one dancer to another, don't complicate the movement, less is more. Set it up and enjoy teaching until we can all go back to the studio without worry.

Quick question: would it work to connect a bluetooth transmitter into the second output of the duplicator cable and pair AirPods to that transmitter? So instead of the speakers - transmit it to AirPods?

You can, but you will immediately be hit with the latency again between you hearing the music and you speaking into your wireless mic. It won't be as bad as if you use the airpods as a mic, but it will still be there to a varying degree.
Picomic all the way, not just for the sound quality but because of most of your questions partaining to try and getting the airpods to work. You want something small with no wires. The Picomic fits this perfect and to this is day is still my #1 recommended microphone for fitness instructors as theres nothing that competes against it for how well it does. Now I just wish someone creates a earbud set like teh airpods but with APTX-LL.
I just found out Avantree made a APTX version of their earbuds thats very similar to the design of airpods. However the latency is still not there until they can make a APTX-LL model.

Recently I was able to see in person Comica boom and wow - PICOMIC is so much better and less hassle!! It made Comica Boom look like from a "past" generation.
Alright I will try various setups through the mixer.
I will try as Picomic into mixer and iPhone for music into mixer, and loudspeaker for sound.
And as I understood I have to keep original sound "Turned On" if i don't share internal music.
I will also try just to experiment:
1. External boom mic into mixer, iPhone music into mixer, and speaker for my music.
2. Pico mic into mixer, iPhone music into mixer, and transmitter into duplicator with AirPods for myself sound.
3. external boom mic into mixer, iPhone music into mixer, and transmitter into duplicator with AirPods.
Excited to see what will have lowest latency.
At the moment I am using external mic into MAC for Mic and just a loudspeaker connected via bluetooth to iPhone. So not "sharing" sound at all. This is working ok for now but still has latency.
When I will get better at using mixer I will try to switch.

I show this during the computer setting portion when you are setting up your input and output. Its completely dependent on which device you are using for music. If you're using your laptop for music, make sure your OUTPUT is set to "headphones" and use the headphone duplicator going to an external computer speaker (or portable bluetooth if it has an AUX port). If you are using your smartphone for music, then leave the OUTPUT to the computers own speakers. You need to make sure your Zoom audio settings reflect the same thing as sometimes Zoom will change your audio INPUT and OUTPUT settings randomly. Now you will be able to hear the students when they chime in.
Long story short, your OUTPUT setting should not be set to USB AUDIO CODEC. Hope this helps! Greetings from the USA!

I was looking at low latency earbuds (~65ms) before finding this video, do you think those would help too? The problem with running a bluetooth headphone into a laptop is that the laptop itself may not be capable of the APTX-LL (low latency) protocol, so your performance may vary. Check the description of this video for the Wireless Headphone set that I tested in "version 1" of this setup. This has a dedicated dock that puts out the APTX-LL to a specific set of headphones. Its not the most fun of headphones to use with the neckband, but it did work. Hope this leads you to the right direction!

In my version 1 of the setup, I had the mixer in Loopback mode, but some people reached out wanting to use their phones and they didn't want to hear their voice also coming out of the speakers or headphone. I was trying to see if I could pan the mic and music to opposite ends, but the students will then hear voice coming from one side and music coming from another, there was no way for me to Dual Mono the signal into computer. :(

There is not connection difference, your headphone duplicator will simply plug into either devices headphone port. Unless your phone does not have a port, you'll need an adaptor.
Using your laptop is the most ideal, your students questions will come out of the external speakers. Also if you are using spotify or itunes, you can use your phone as a remote for your music and playlist so that you never have to go back to the computer to play and pause songs.

What a helpful video! I have been working trying to get my audio better for zoom classes for a long time and this has been so helpful! I was wondering if I could use a cord from the main out to my speaker and still hear the music or did I have to use the one where it splits like you showed in the video? I just have several cords here that I was hoping to reuse if possible. 😁

If you plug speakers into the Main out you will hear your voice come out of the speakers as well. Similar to a fitness room cardio class. This is what I would recommend if teachers are teaching hybrid classes in studios again as it works really well. I tested it in a very echo-ee large studio with the music blasting and the live and online students could all hear me clearly.
The reason in this video I did not mention this is because at the time we were all still stuck at home. And the last thing a teacher needed was to hear their own voice blasted back from the speakers in their kitchen haha.

I recently broke off on my own from a studio and had no idea what to buy bang for buck as we were using Moles from the 60s & 70s (what a work horse of a light) and a Sony Hd package from 2008.
I got the Rode Go and the Deity DA35, for my audio and the Newer 660 with a softbox for my on camera light based on your videos.

I have tested this setup in a echo chamber warehouse and have set it up for local studios. I don't have videos of this, but I have tested it with the owners and they didn't hear any echo with this setup even with a mask in front of my mouth. The key point is that this headset microphone is a "fitness mic" which means it's meant to be very close to your mouth, it is designed for this. Some instructors are keeping it too far away from their mouth because they don't like the feel of it being that close.
The reason this mic is done this way is because it does not want to catch the sound of echo and or your load PA system during a zumba class. Think of those fitness classes where you can clearly hear the instructor while the music is blasting super loud, yet you don't hear a echo of the music. Thats simply because the mic is designed to pick up your voice inches away from your mouth instead of the whole room.

I'm not really familiar with the WebEx video conference software, however if anywhere in the software settings you are able to choose which mic to use, then yes, this system will work as it will show up in the menu as an option. So for your specific case, since you're on a bike. I would actually tell you to run you music from your macbook AIR specifically with Spotify. The reason for this is because if you have Spotify on both your laptop and smartphone, you can actually use your smartphone as a wireless remote to your laptop. Making it easy for you to access your playlist, skip tracks, etc... while never leaving your bike. A quick google search will show you how to do this, its quite simple. Hope this helps!
If you do not have spotify and use iTunes, I do believe that Apple has released their own wireless remote function App as well.

I'm so glad this video was helpful for you! No, this mixer setup negates the need to share music. The share music method was one of the first tips that people discovered that worked for the time being until USB Audio interfaces were being introduced to do what I said later in the video (all audio feeding through one unit to reduce lag etc).
With your RODE GO, make sure you have an XLR to 3.5mm cable that I have linked in the description.
When it comes to music, Spotify and iTunes are a good option to feed into the mixer from the computer. I do this now because I can use my smartphone or ipad that also has spotify or the itunes remote, you can link them and use the smartphone as a remote so that you don't have to go up to your computer to change the song or pause.

I do have the link for the original video, however before you send people to it, this updated setup is the best version to work with and can still work with the headphones and whatever wireless microphone you want to use. While I don't experience with this setup and GoPro's in general, I do believe you will have audio latency between your video feed and audio via zoom. Live streamers have audio latency controls that I don't think zoom has yet. However there is a potential way to negate this if the GoPro7 has a way to accept Mic inputs.
You would simply plug an AUX cord from your mixers "main" or "monitor" output into the mic of your GoPro. I know some of the other gopro's have a "line in" mic feature. If your audio sounds blown out, you'll need to flip that on. Now all your sound and video are going through the gopro and then finally to your computer, this should cancel out any audio latency as its always being sent from the gopro.
You'd still calibrate everything initially through the computer first so that you can see what the levels are doing, from there you'd just plug the mixers "Main" or "monitor" out into the go-pro. The mixer wouldn't even need to be plugged into the computer as, again, the GoPro is the one handling the entry point into the computer.
This is all theory of how I would approach this setup if all of it was to work. I do not know if it will. But hopefully this sets you on the right path. Hope it helps!

We have a sound system for the people in the class with a aux cord that normally gets plugged into her mac, since the sound needs to go to both the sound system in the room and zoom I think I'll need to purchase a splitter. If I remember correctly, yes you can make that work since the scarlett should have 1/4 jack for you to plug the Kimafun into. I think there is also a second channel on the Scarlett as well so you can route your laptop or smartphone into it for music.
The scarlett will essentially become your USB audio interface mixer, so you would not need the mixer I have here in this setup.

Thank you for this amazing info. It has saved my life! I have this set up and it all works perfectly, except the music. I am playing Itunes from my HP laptop, and sometimes only I can hear it and not the class. It seems random-sometimes the music comes through, but sometimes it doesn't, with no change in any settings. I am sharing the computer sound, because if I don't, then the class never hears the music. Would it be better and more reliable to hook up my Iphone and play the music from there, and then not share the sound on Zoom?

This is a weird part about Zoom. Sometimes it does not retain your system settings for audio and will instead revert to something else. So when you setup your system you need to always double check your computers audio setting and then your zoom audio settings when you start it up to make sure they match. When you plug in the headphone cable your computer will also default to a different volume setting so that your ears do not get blown out by a louder setting. So you need to make sure that when you plug the headphone duplicator cable in that your "headphone volume" on the laptop is also set correctly. I don't know if itunes detects headphone volume either, but make sure itunes own volume bar is set to max.
You can use an iPhone if its easier for you, I personally prefer the laptop music method as I can use my phone as a remote to change the songs without needing to go back to the computer when teaching. I use spotify that has a remote feature, iTunes does too I believe, you'll have to google how to use your phone as an remote.
Otherwise before starting every class, you just need to walk through the steps above to double check that your system and zoom audio settings match. Turn up the headphone volume after you've plugged things into the headphone port. While you're in those audio setting you can even do a quick check that music is indeed playing through the mixer via the soundbars that I showed. And you should be good to go.
This is my best guess as to why your music sometimes does and doesnt work.

Hmm... the only things I can think of are the following:
- If you are using the Kimafun Splitter instead of the splitter that I linked for the video. They are not the same cable, they are different. (Plug tip has three color rings)
- Make sure your output settings is set to "headphones" not "USB Audio Codec" (if you are using your laptop for music)
- Depending on your speakers, some of them may ask you to switch to AUX mode. Especially if its a bluetooth speaker with your phone nearby. Cause it will connect to your phones bluetooth instead of using the AUX.

Hi there! Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I have the exact same PYLE mixer and a shure wireless headset to teach my rhythm based fitness classes. I have been playing my music off of an ipad mini. I have been hearing from my students that the music is not loud enough on their end (even with their headphones all the way up). I have done everything that I can think of to remedy that on my end... bumping the music up for the playlist from within itunes (equilizer), making sure the ipad mini volume limit is set to the max and turned all the way up, making sure the zoom sound input from mixer is all the way up. Finally I've bumped all the volumes up on the mixer, although I'm seeing and hearing distortion on the audio (especially when speaking on my mic) - however now they say they can hear the music better/louder. I'm wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to boost the volume of the music and mic for them without having the levels so high on the mixer and as a result, having that distortion. Are other sources for my music perhaps louder than the output on the ipad mini? Perhaps and iphone or another laptop (I'm using my laptop to run zoom). any and all suggestions appreciated

So a couple things I can think of.
1) Make sure iTunes isnt doing some sort of "volume safety" where it will purposely not let volume go super high to protect people with headphones on. I know Spotify has this feature in their smartphone app, not sure if itunes does. So I would search around to see if you can find something like it and turn it off.
2) If the music is good now but the mic is too loud and distorted, this is an easy fix on the mixer. Under Channel 1 where your mic is plugged into. Underneath the XLR plug point there is the "gain" knob. Start turning that down if it was already up in the MAX position. That should more or less solve everything so that your mic does not distort and your music volume maintains the same that you've been having it.
Its hard to explain how this all works as it comes naturally to me. But essentially think of the mixer this way. All the Blue knobs are things you want to tamper with first. Think of it as "Stage 1".
Your goal with stage 1 is to have a good mix between your voice and music so that one is not overpowering the other, or however you'd like to mix your sound...whether it be more music heavy or voice heavy.
Stage 2, which is the "main mix" knob on the bottom right. This is what gets sent to the computer. So in Stage 1 you already mixed the "ratio", if you will, of your voice to music. The Main mix knob if you turn it up or down, will turn that stage 1 mix up or down in volume for the computer. So if your Stage 2 knob is turned down pretty low to begin with, then that means you gotta really jack up all the knobs in stage 1 to compensate. This is why in the video I have the Stage 2: Main Mix already starting at 75% so that as you adjust your mix in Stage 1, you should be good to go without need to mess with too much.
Thats just a very basic idea of the two stages and what each one does. Of course as you get more comfortable with it you can really mess with both of them in unity to get the best sound possible. But at that point we're talking about professional mixers. We don't need that level. But essentially, if you do need to go back through the steps. Make sure your Main Mix (stage 2) knob is already set at 75% and then begin the calibration process of stage one to get the Ratio you want for your voice and music. In my case I was essentially 1:1 having the music and voice topping around 60-70% in the computer.

We are doing zoom dance classes using a mixer and a wireless mic, but we also use another two mobile phones as two cameras (joining the meeting as participants) for two different angles, in which the host (MacBook pro) only serves as an audio output device (music and voice of the coach). It worked kinda well as the music and the voice synced perfectly, especially when we were doing choreography class. However, we found that the video would somehow out of sync when the coach was teaching fitness dance class, all songs were being played one after one non-stop. Is it related to the cameras or the music source we were using (UA-cam music/ Spotify / mp3 files )?

This is due to the other camera angles being participants from the principle camera/audio source. The internet does not work in true real time, there is a buffer algorithm that constantly changes based on the video conferences groups collective internet speed and ability. So because everyone has different internet and computer ability to process, everyone will be technically watching you in a different moment in time, but to you it would seem close enough. The other potential is you are using two more cameras on the same internet so now you are streaming three video feeds from the same internet source, this usually shouldn't be a problem, but it is something that could (It's hard to say).
But long story short, a little lag between movement and music could happen because of just how internet technology works and how we're not actually seeing all of this in true real time. Think of when you are in the same room with someone on a cellphone and you call each other. The moment you say hello you hear your sound from your friends phone a second later. This is whats happening when you are doing video conferencing.
The main goal of this setup is to ensure that the instructors voice and music are always on beat. If you are also using your macbook pro as the main camera, that setup technically should have the video and audio synced or at least very close.

No, the Headphone duplicator and stereo breakout serve different purposes for the setup. The Stereo breakout is to get the music to enter into the mixer, if you bought a stereo breakout that had female ends instead of males. What will happen is your mixer will only hear the left side of the music and your speaker will only hear the right side of the music. While yes that technically still works, depending on what music you are using (generally mixed in stereo) you may miss beats, audio cues that you or the students don't hear. Its kind of hard to explain, but the short answer is "no" you cannot use these two cables interchangeably and still get the same audio results.

If you are using a phone for your music going into the mixer, then it won't be a problem. You will still need to buy the external speakers into the headphone duplicator cable so that you yourself can her the music. From there in your audio settings make sure the OUTPUT is set to your HDMI/TV name, so that you can hear the students if they have any questions.
If you are using your computer as the music source, then you will definitely need to buy the duplicator cable and external speakers as you won't be able to route through the TV into the mixer. You'll still be able to hear the students, it just won't come from the TV rather it will come through the external mixer. Follow the steps in the video where the OUTPUT needs to be set to "Headphone" in this case.

Thank you for this helpful video! I purchased the Pyle Mixer and it only plays the microphone into my computer through the USB and not the music. However, the music and microphone are playing together on my external speaker the mixer is attached to. I'm just a little confused why "line 2" where my ipad is attached to is not playing. I read some reviews that the Pyle Mixer needs to be charged for 4 hours first in order for all the "lines" to play through the USB. Is that true? Any help would be grateful appreciated!

Make sure the "Assign to USB" button is not activated so that the mixer will grab the music from the "Line In". From there also make sure your "USB/LINE" volume knob is turned up. If all of this is correct already and you happen to be on a windows computer, there may be a second step you need to do that I detailed at 9:30 . Windows will automatically default to 1ch (your mic) and you want to make sure you tell it to view the mixer as a 2ch so that your Line In is also used.
The charging of the unit should not have any affect on the Line In as the mixer is fully powered when plugged into a computer.

I have all this dialed in plus a web camera but need to clarify Zoom settings..also noted below that if I am using my own music player and not my lap top...the zoom setting should be...what exactly? You're welcome! So since you are using your own music player (not laptop) your Zoom settings should be "Output" set to the laptops internal speaker. And then your "Input or mic" is set to the USB Audio Codec (mixer). This is done because if the students have a question, you still want to be able to hear them, so their question will come out of the laptops own speaker.
As for adjusting the Zoom volume, If you are referring to the students questions, that will be adjusted on your laptops own volume controls for your specific setup. If you were using your laptop for music as well, then you would want to adjust the volume through those external computer speakers own volume knob. Because if you use the mixer to adjust past your calibrated point, you will introduce distortion where as if you adjust the external computer speakers volume, it will not.
Last tip I recently found out, for those that are using Spotify but would rather you use your cell phone to switch music instead of the laptop. I actually found out that you can use your cellphone as a wireless remote to the Spotify of your computer. Essentially make sure both apps are running at the same time on the same wifi network in your home or studio. Then on your smartphone when you are playing music it will have a "devices" icon on the bottom left. Click on that and you will see your laptops name as an available device. Click on your laptop and now your phone will tell the computers spotify what to play. So essentially you can do the Laptop setup and now never have to go near your computer and just use your phone to switch songs and playlists etc etc.

The body movement vs music is a combination of the internet, zoom's servers, the groups overall internet strength. So this is normal to see some latency between your audio and video. The key importance is that your voice and music is synced above all so that dancers arn't confused with how you're guiding them. The video being slightly off is ok as most dancers will get what you're going for and just follow the timing of the music instead of trying to follow the video only. Hope that makes sense.

For the headphone situation, read my instructions in the description of the video. The reason I took down the Version one video link is because it doesn't quite help in terms of setup. You can use regular bluetooth earbuds or airpods if you'd like. You'll have to purchase a bluetooth transmitter like this one: geni.us/yr0JO71 (affiliate link)
The reason back in the first video when I selected that wireless headphone set was because of its low latency. So that when you count to the music it would sound very close to the actual music timing your students hear.
This bluetooth transmitter I linked to should give you a similar experience in terms of latency.

I'm so glad this video was helpful! To answer your question, no, you cannot use any mixer. You need to use one that specifically can connect to your computer as a USB Audio Interface with that specific USB port in the back. While you technically could use a regular mixer that you may find at a DJ booth, you will still need to purchase a USB interface to take in that signal into the computer. Essentially a USB Mixer Audio Interface combines both of these feature into one. If your computer has a traditional Mic port that is not shared as a combo port like most electronics these days, then you could use a traditional mixer and just route your "main" output port on the mixer into the mic jack. However this could introduce additional his as you are now taking in an analog signal from the mixer instead of a digital one.

You're most welcome! No, you cannot use the Kimafun cable as thats not actually a headphone duplicator cable even thought it may look like it. That cable is a TRRS splitter vs the headphone duplicators is a TRS Duplicator.

You're most welcome! There is not a way to have two mics going to 1 receiver. There are microphones like that out there, however they are not the headset variety, so if you're teaching classes the wired lav mic or clip on mic could bounce around. Some instructors are ok with it, some are not. For me, personally, I think the headset mic is easier to work with. That being said, if you need a 2nd person, similar to what I said in this video, you could get a mixer that has a 2nd XLR port and have two KimaFun headsets going into the mixer. Hope this helps!

Glad this video was helpful! Unfortunately no, the PMXU48BT will not work as it does not act as a USB audio interface. I know the amazon listing is a little misleading. But looking at the instruction manual, it does not have the back USB port for this feature. In technicality you could make it work, but you would need to purchase a separate USB Audio Interface for the mixer to go into, which is an extra step and extra money. It'll be better to just have both features mixed into one product to keep the setup down.

In Zoom you must set the Input/Mic to USB Audio Codec to ensure its using the sounds coming into the Mixer. The other settings in the computer and potentially match up in the Zoom audio settings just depends on if you are using your laptop or smartphone for music. Otherwise the main priority is to make sure your computer knows to get its "mic input" from the USB audio codec.
Don't be afraid to try different settings, you won't break anything if you have the wrong input and output set. Everything is completely reversible. You'll probably get to the right answer faster than I respond back when I see the question haha.

Unfortunately your older Behringer mixer can't be used unless you purchase a USB AUDIO interface, something like the Scarlett Audio Interface. This approach adds more to the audio chain and in the end it can be more expensive of a setup than if you just bought a newer mixer that already has an USB Audio Interface built in. Hope this helps!

So the only thing that I would do to make it work is buy a cable (my guess is a 1/4 audio cable) and plug from your mixers output into the Scarlett. Then in your computer you would select the Scarlet as the USB AUDIO CODEC (though it will probably just say Scarlett)
Everything else I detailed in the video is the same. The Scarlett is simply allowing you to take all the audio from your old mixer and mix your voice and music into the computer through the Scarlett.
You'll definitely want to watch some videos on the Scarlett just so you are familiar with what each button does as you adjust the volume of the mixer so that you are in the right volume of where you need to be.
Thats all I can really say as I'm not using this setup. All I know is that it is doable with with what you have, all you need is that one audio cable to connect the mixers output into the scarlett.
Keep the scarlett volume knob at 50% to start, press the "Instrument" button on and off and see which one is the correct setting you need to be so that your music and voice doesn't sound distorted. And then from there, in this order:
Do the volume calibration from the mixer first.
If you find yourself maxing out the volume knobs on the mixer and its still not loud enough, then bring the mixer volume knobs back to the 60-75% mark and raise the Scarlett volume knob instead.
This is to ensure you get the cleanest audio possible as the scarlett preamps are quite clean. The mixer if you put it to 100% might sound "hissy"
Good luck, experiment around with the volume knobs. You won't break anything be moving things around. The only knobs you are really playing with are just the Volume knobs and Main Mix knobs. You do not need to worry about "Pan" "Low" "Mid" "High". Those should all be set to their default spots.

I am playing with this with my zoom fitness classes... i run it off my iPad pro. Haven't gotten it fully dialed yet. Mainly struggle with MY spear set up. Running rode wireless go into a usb mixer with iPhone in a 2nd channel for music. Its the speaker set up so i can still hear my class thats giving me trouble.

While I have yet to find a solid tablet or smartphone solution, I'm going to assume you are using a USB adapter of sorts to connect the mixer to the iPad pro. I don't know if the iPad pro allows you do to do the setups like a computer or laptop would when it comes to where your input and output goes. If it does, you'd probably just have to tell Zoom to let the output go to iPad internal speakers. If you plug computer speakers to the headphone port, you can hear the students louder.
If that doesn't work because of the USB mixer being used and you can't select anything else... Then I think you may be out of luck. Generally speaking I will always suggest people to use a laptop to run their zoom setup because its setup is unified across the board and you have more ability to work within the software. Tablets and Phones haven't quite gotten there yet, but they will. Hope this helps!

As far as I know right now there is no wireless mic/headphone combination that uses the APTX-LL protocol, which means if you use a regular bluetooth headset for conference calls, you will exhibit the latency I demonstrate between your music and your voice. The version 1 video is going to confuse people as the setup was vastly different in where to plug in certain things and where the music is coming from. Should you use a wireless headphone like I listed, simply just follow the instruction below on where to plug in the wireless headphone receiver. (essentially just plug it where the "external speaker" would have been plugged in)

Hello. Thanks so much for this! The set up was working great however it seems the music started getting out of sync with my video on Zoom. This is more of a Internet/Zoom problem and not the problem of the setup. Zoom's program is trying to keep everyone synced incase someone has bad internet. However if someone's internet is constantly being good, bad, good, bad. The entire room suffers because the Zoom Program is constantly adjusting to try and keep the buffer in the best range possible. Hence why audio sometimes goes fast all of the sudden.

When you say feed back do you mean like an echo of your own sound? Or do you mean you hear a radio interference type of feedback? If is the latter and you're casting your laptop to the smart TV, that frequency could be whats causing it, does it only happen when you are casting and not when you're not casting? Thats would be the first thing to rule out.
If it still happens while you're not casting but it goes away when you unplug the laptop audio cable from the laptop, then that means the laptops headphone port is the problem and its essentially turning the cable into a antenna.
As of right now a laptop is still my recommended setup to be the host of the Zoom client instead of a smartphone. I know many want to go this route but it does raise a bit more hassle to try and trouble shoot everything. So my help is very limited the moment a cellphone is introduced into the mix as the Zoom client.
Hopefully this gets you started on a solution for your specific setup, this is all I can think of from my end.

Thank you so much for this video!! I’ve purchased all the equipment you recommended in the caption. All works, except the Kimafun mic is really low when I test on my Microsoft computer. The music sounds great when I did a test recording, but the mic doesn’t get any volume. Are there any adjustments on the mixer I should make? When you mentioned the input should rise to 60% once you adjust the computer’s sound settings, mine is barely getting up to 15%. Once I figure that part out, everything should be good to go.

Yes, in this case you want to make adjustments to the CH1 area of the mixer that is adjust the volume of your mic. Start moving the "Gain" upwards to may be 80% and then move the "fader volume knob" towards the bottom higher. Also make sure you do the step where I say to to turn the Kimafun's own volume button all the way to the max.
Lastly, the Kimafun is a fitness mic which means its designed to be very close to the mouth. If you have it placed where its far away from your mouth, this is also the reason you're not getting a loud signal into the mic.

I talk about this further in the video that you would simply purchase a mixer that has two XLR mic inputs or more. That way you can use two wireless mics for each instructor. You would still calibrate each instructor to that 60-70% depending on your needs.
This setup is not meant to be used in conjunction with Airpods as I talk about how Airpods, while awesome, is not meant for instructors that need to keep time with the music, the technology at a consumer level is not available yet. So we have to go the USB audio interface mixer route for now.
I did get a question from another instructor who wanted to treat the mixer as a PA mixer so that it can also project her voice in the studio for a hybrid teaching system. In which case you would simply plug the Speakers you have into the "main mix" or "main out" of your mixer. You will just have to be aware of where you are standing so that you're not teaching in front of a speaker and the online students hear a lot of echo or digitized audio echo cancellation sounds. Now the live studio will be able to hear music and your voice projected and your online students will hear what they need to hear as well. Hope this helps!

In theory you could buy another headphone duplicator cable that I linked for the RODE GO so that one goes into the mixer and the other one goes into your phone. You will however need a TRRS to TRS cable for the one that goes into your phone: geni.us/5z4Dr (Amazon affiliate link). Make sure you also purchase the 3.5mm to XLR adaptor as well geni.us/akxeZC (Amazon Affiliate link) so that you can plug the RODE GO into the mixer.
As for your Airpods, if you are planning to feed the mixer music from your laptop. You CAN NOT use the Airpods at the same time. The computer can only feed one source at a time. If its because you need to hear the music or hear the participants if they have questions. All of that will come out of the additional external computer speakers in this setup. If you use another phone or ipod for music into the mixer while using your Airpods to hear the students. This could work, you just have to make sure your audio Input and Output settings are correct so that your are always using the USB AUDIO CODEC as your Microphone, and your OUTPUT is set to your Airpods. However if you were hoping to use the airpods to hear the music so that you don't have music playing in the studio, this is where that "lag" comes in that I demonstrated later in the video. Bluetooth just hasn't quite gotten to the point where its always stable, there is always latency when you are trying to match audio to your live video as you're counting.

Is there a way to use my AirPods to hear everything (my goal is to eliminate sound in my studio, getting some noise complaints!)?
For this other duplicator for the RODE GO. One side will go into the mixers XLR mic 1 port.
Duplicator -> red cable your Rode came with -> 3.5mm to XLR adaptor -> Mixer Ch1 mic.
The second will go from Duplicator into your phone. The side of you TRRS to TRS cable with three color bands would go into the phone. Now your RODE GO should be feeding sound into the mixer and phone.
The mixer to phone currently does not work based on my tests. The phone is major Radio Frequency emitter and when I've tried to stream my mixer into the phone, you get a lot of Radio interference.
If you are looking to eliminate sound in your studio as you're teaching. Look in the description of the video where I talk about Headphones.
You would simply plug these wireless headphones into the headphone duplicator where your music is coming from (Where the external speakers get plugged in)
The reason to use this specific set is because of the bluetooth lag between you hearing and counting the music. This headphone set has the lowest latency to help negate the problem that I talk about.
Its not airpod, I wish they made a Earbud version to make it easier for people. Unfortunately there are no airbuds that support the APTX-LL protocol.

Most likely whats happened is that Zoom's own audio settings is not matching your systems audio settings correctly. Go into your Zoom's audio settings and make sure your OUTPUT is set to "Headphones" or "Internal Speakers" (If you are using a smartphone for music). That should do it, Zoom does this from time to time as I wondered why I couldn't hear my students one day and noticed that ZOOM did not adhear to my systems audio settings and reverted to something else. You are correct you'd want a mixer that has two XLR channels so that you have one for each sound. As for which mixer specifically, there are quite a few, the ones I recommended have bigger brother versions that just have more XLR channels. The two budget brands I still recommend are Pyle and Behringer. The only one I see right now thats available that was part of my initial research is this one: amzn.to/3kQwuKQ

There are other cheaper ones that seem to do the job, but I don't not know how well they actually perform. During my initial research I looked as many video reviews as possible on the popular budget brands to see what sound people thought about them. With this mixer you have the option to either plug your computer sound to either Line3/4 or the RCA type on the far top right (red and white) 2track IN. From there there are those two buttons at the bottom that asks you if you want the sounds to go to the Main mix or phones. You'll want the sounds to travel to the Main Mix (may need to play around with the button presses to see which combo send the audio to your computer)
The main mix is a fader slider instead of knob so make sure to push that up.
And then do your computer calibration on the knobs that are labeled for Line3/4. Keep the balance in the middle, FX can be off, then use "level" for your volume.
