for Tartar, I think you're onto something.
When you've collected all 4 Thangs, and Tartar is combining with the blender, the back shell of the phone comes off and a purple power ring is seen. It could be that the ring and lights inside are part of the real Tartar and that the telephone is indeed just a husk he wears as to be like a wolf in sheep's clothing.
i thought about that! though it seems like a control mechanism for the blender parts...maybe more proof of tartar modifying itself? that or it is something the professor built into it

Yes, definitely. Tartar’s an AI, not a living being, meaning he doesn’t really have a body. I like to think that he can hide himself in any object, and he doesn’t even have any parts at all, he’s just a conscience.

Dedf1sh is NOT partially sanitized! I misinterpreted the line as 'she agreed for part of herself to be sanitized' rather than 'part of herself agreed to be sanitized,' meaning that being sanitized was something she wasn't against the idea of, rather than she was literally partially sanitized. (thanks to Familiar Stranger for the correction!)
since the amount of active JP->EN translators in this fanbase is almost zero, i often translate stuff alone and have to hope what i'm putting out is right (pain)
if any more important corrections come up i will put it in this comment.

great video, but I have one correction to make. 半ば自分から消毒を望んだ doesn't mean Dedf1sh was "partially sanitized". It means she partially volunteered to be sanitized. She's fully sanitized just like any other sanitized octo, she just wasn't against the idea of being sanitized.

This new Dedf1sh content is still shocking, thanks for the excellent video! I also agree that more of the lore should be put into the actual game but it feels exciting to be able to uncover these secrets together with other fans.

You think that's interesting, you should also know that there was a mistranslation that Dedf1sh agreed to being partially sanitized, when really Dedf1sh did agree to it and just had some part of her that agreed to being sanitized.
I think it's actually fairly nice that tartar only partially sanitized some Octolings who wanted to escape an unstable mind and do what they want while being chill. I'm also glad that tartar, at least the way he sees it, doesn't just blend up innocent people mercilessly, and that he sees being blended up as a proof of your existence. I wonder if he feels bad that he couldn't preserve the lives of thousands of test subjects because his plans were destroyed. Maybe that's why he's so mad while Eight is on her way to destroy him and all the goo. You can also really hear the hatred in his voice when he screams at Agent Three (before composing himself again). "YOU!! YOU MEASLY SCRAP OF SEAFOOD! YOU'LL PAY FOR THIS!" -Tartar

Now that I think about it, when he says "why are you associating with these superfluous nobodies?" I think it has to do with how he respects Eight and sees them as superior to the others because Eight passed the tests and proved themselves worthy of being blended into smoothie. In a sick and twisted way, I think Tartar might have actually felt betrayed by Eight.

I mean, most of this stuff is just bonus lore. Its not really relevant to the story or gameplay of the DLC. So while I agree it would be cool with more of this concrete lore in the game, I understand why it wasnt included.

@@Nazgul100 yeah but we really didn’t get much lore in the octo expansion rather than it just being mostly character focus. like the mem cake poems were cool but it would’ve been great if we had something like the sunken scrolls were it goes a little more in depth. I get the lore isn’t the focus of the game but personally it’s a bit of a let down

The idea of Sanitization being a consensual process would actually explain how Tartar was able to get so many Octarians in his facility. It makes a lot more sense than him luring in and capturing every single one.

My personal theory about Tartars true form is that he doesn’t have one. Being that he is an AI like Jarvis or Friday from iron man, he could probably put his “consciousness” into any piece of technology powerful enough to support AI

I think after the whole 'there's only enough immortality for me or Judd' and Judd got it, that's why Tartar was created: to fulfill what Professor wanted to do; preserve a sentient record and warning.
Also that Tartar was created before the Professor met Judd, and was just an upload of... his own mind. The 'without warmth of life' comments suggest it.

17:35 Isn't there a level in Octo Expansion that shows part of the Sanitization process? We see a bunch of Octarians in boxes hooked up to green "blood" bags, and they're slowly being transported between pools of stuff that looks like water or hand sanitizer.

I just found out about this channel and I'm so invested in all the new stuff I'm learning about this amazing series!
One question i don't know if it has ever been addressed by any of the devs is why at the beginning of the octo expansion are we shown agent 8 floating in liquid inside some kind of chamber?
It seemed to be more prominent in the trailer so maybe some lore got cut but is something i don't think ever got addressed...
Does that imply 8 is special compared to other octarians? Or is it trying to show a bit into the process of "reproduction" of the octoling?

Dang 2 and half years later and well it’s nice that Side Order gave us more clarification to Sanitization. However; weird that in the English dialogue makes it seems like Acht was forced into to sanitization, which is false (just another example of localization errors) though I will say the fact that Agent 8 was also inflicted by Sanitization, meaning that sanitization has more subconscious elements did physical effects. Love how all of this basically comes to together about sanitization. So glad I watched this it really gave me more understanding to the lore of sanitization.
Oh gosh I remember hearing about this issue and I've been trying to find translations of it for so long, so I'm so glad you covered this!

that lore about C.Q. Cumber is interesting, but I do have a bit of speculation regarding them. The C.Q. Cumbers aren't the first time in Splatoon that we've met a blue-coloured species of sea creatures with a universally similar mild temperament and bioluminescence. This is purely speculation, but they could very well be in a similar situation to the Jellyfish. Given that they were apparently **made** for the task of train operation by Kamabo Co. I think it's very possible that they share a mind. It would explain why they all seem to share the same personality, and having a subway system run on a perfectly synced hivemind would certainly have practical applications for Kamabo Co.

Apparently, when put in order, Dedf1sh's original songs explain how it feels to be sanitized- to warn future creatures who may want it but aren't exactly sure yet of how it will feel.

Lol I actually made my Splat2 Octoling a friend of Marina in my bio for her. Most unintentional connection ever. My Octoling Sniper Octo Jynx and Marina have been friends to point where Marina decided to be Jynx’s Weapon Mechanic. To where she made a custom Scope for Jynx’s Scoped E-Liter I also made Jynx’s Unit the second highest unit in the Octarian Military behind Marina’s unit I also made Jynx miss only two sniper shots in her whole Octarian military career both in which where against Old Agent 3.

Something is making me feel like Tartar isn't the root of all of this... After all, it's an accepted idea that Tartar was the one creating the sanitized ink from the very beginning. Did it (tartar) sanitize itself or surely something else sanitized it? Near the beginning of octo expansion when it spits out the CQ80 you can see a sanitized ink splash. I think that perhaps, maybe, Tartar didn't sanitize itself... Something, or someone else, did.

It's messed up how they tried to make something that basically strip freedom, become a darn brainless zombie - no mind of your own at all; as something "good" cause if you half sanitize you be good -like no that's just torture at that point and jacked up man.
The matter that dedf1sh just chose to do it half way proves that she had her doubts and just honestly shouldn't have done it at all...- that's like becoming a slave for a boss half butted. I just no...and it's utterly creepy how she just accepted that type of lifestyle, - lost her mind basically at that point.

I kinda wish Iso Padre ran the general store in Splatoon 3. Don’t get me wrong, I love that Melody has an offical model now but since he has all those plushies (and a few stickers on his back if you can get the camera angle right), he would have fit quite well!
But considering the fact that Melody isn’t actually the owner and just keeps an eye on the place wile they’re away could mean the Iso Padre IS the store’s owner! Maybe when he’s not stocking up on stickers and various Nic-Nacs, he still enjoys riding the train?

I’ve basically thought that cephalopods get sanitized with exposure to sanitized ink, and that the explosion from being splatted by it would be sanitization if not for spawn points.
