@@musicaman8683 Yes. This should be even more clear, if you played the Splatoon games in the original japanese language, where it was made abundantly clear. But that fact was Lost in Translation, as Treehouse decided not to be very faithful to the original and decided to push the narrative that Inklings are good and Octarians are evil. In fact, a lot of personalities were changed in the translation too. Which came back to haunt them later when Octo Expansion became a thing. And so they had to course correct. Of course, unless you paid close attention, you'd never catch that Pearl and Marina had their dialogue-texts slightly altered in later patches.

Maybe I'm over-analysing it but one thing I like is the fact that Marina doesn't shoot as much as Sunny uses the Octo brush since she doesn't have an ink tank, so she only shoots as much ink as she can produce/recover.
I actually cried. The scene where sunny just silently accepts that marina has found something else and she’ll never sing with her again is so sad but beautiful. On a higher note I love how Judd accidentally helped marina but he was only trying to take the fish💀

I love how the umbrella was used in the story. Pearl's bodyguard first offered it to Marina when they found her as a sign of trust and friendship, and in the battle it was used as a way to protect pearl from sunny's missiles.
By just playing splatoon, a lot of people are driven to the conclusion that "squids are good and fun! Octarians are evil and strict!" But the true lore of the game shows us that both sides are just fighting for themselves, to protect who they are and how they live. This animatic showing the world from an octarian perspective was so AMAZING and something I wish was more prevalent in the world of splatoon. Thank you so much for making this it is seriously bloody awesome!
I think it can be argued that both sides are a little evil, but the Octarians are worse given that their society is more oppressive and they’ve tried taking over the world numerous times.
I love the use of Pearl's Octoling concept art as someone from Marina's past! Such a creative use of the worldbuilding, and the combat is so fluid and engaging! If Splatoon ever gets an anime, you need to be on the team!
@@memescoffee3173 If I had to find where to chronologically place the events of this story in the main canon, I think Sunny and Marina could have met after Acht and Marina got separated when the later was assigned to an elite unit and Acht as a security member. In this story, it looks like both Marina and Sunny were on different units, but they met because they both liked music and were doing some kind of "community service" (Sunny mentioned that she hadn't done any combat training, unlike Marina), maybe they knew each other for not too long before Marina escaped, but they became close friends in a short time. I also think that Acht and Sunny couldn't have met after Marina escaped because Sunny was quickly assigned to combat training as Marina's replacement and Acht, although they knew about the mess caused by Marina's escape, abandoned their duty to become a full-time DJ in an underground club, getting sanitized not too long after Octavio got defeated by Agent 3. At the time when Sunny and Marina fought, Acht was already DJ'ing at Kamabo Co.
this was so amazing, the fight scenes were so well choreographed and everything was just so interesting to follow, the ending is so sad! but everything is so amazing! it is so emotional i love this so very much
If this is cannon, that would mean the original design of Pearl was marinas first friend and a seperate character canonically. That’d be such a cool way to use the scrapped Pearl design
i mean these events is basically marina’s backstory as explained in the sunken scrolls and OE but the sunny segments are original its canon to a extent but with a little zing.
I feel bad for Sunny. The pain she felt when Marina crawled to Pearl's side was truly heartbreaking. It was both cute and sad at the same time. In her eyes, it looks like the inkling brainwashed Marina. I can't blame her because this is how Octavio portrayed them to the octarians, I hope she's not gone, I really like her a lot. I wonder if her eye piece has some kind of recording function in it. I want to see Marina's parent reaction to this. I like how you portrayed them taking the zapfish back and Marina's breaking out of the octarians' mindset. This is truly a work of art, so emotional. I hope there are more animatics of this AU.
For what we know she may have just been knocked unconscious because in the lore it is proven that specials can be powered up so I think its reasonable to say they can also be powered down
In interviews for the second game it's stated that getting splatted without a respawn device is lethal for Inklings/Octolings, so I think Sunny's dead.
I love this concept for Pearl´s beta design as someone of importance in Marina´s past when she was part of the octarian army, the worldbuilding and storytelling are amazing, such interesting take on the octarians perspective from the events of the first game that greatly expands Marina´s personal conflict. I find it hard to put into words how much I adore this. Really inpiring, your passion for your work really shines through. This quickly became one of my favorite fancreated content in any game !!
Dang. Just thinking about the pain Sunny felt when Marina crawled to Pearl's side. She was thinking that she had been compromised and brainwashed but after the battle when she saw the earphones thinking that her being "brainwashed" is over she witnessed how Marina went to Pearl's side and Sunny finally knowing the truth. Marina wasn't brainwashed. She actually chose to stay and live with the inkling's side. Just thinking about how a friend finally found their own path and has joined and is living with the "enemies" is just... Ouch...
Honestly I prefer the perspective that she didn’t understand, because then her response to the devotion Marina had to Pearl and the inklings when she thought they took Marina from her. Heart-wrenching. She came so far to get her friend back but every inch feels like a canyon, so maybe she finally gave up?
i just realized that at the end of the story sunny and marina end up doing what the other did at the beginning marina started out doing combat then ended up being a musician sunny started out being a musician then ended up doing combat my heart hurts..
I love how Pearl takes Marina's hand in order to help Marina, then at the end, Marina takes Pearl's hand in order to help Pearl. At 2:10 you can even see Sunny and Marina holding hands as they both play the same tune. It's sort of like in the end, both Marina and Sunny are out of tune. Marina sees both sides of the world and has her choices, while Sunny only sees her side of the world. Since Marina has held both Pearl and Sunny's hands, the ending feels more metaphorical.
Yeah, I love how since the inklings are only ever shown as horrible monsters the only conclusion sunny can draw is that of course Marina has been brainwashed.
i love the way this portrays the octarian society and the difference between the underground and what's above. No one is really portrayed as the "bad guy" like usual. Instead we get to see why the octarians steal the zapfish and why octolings are the way the are. The scene w Marina "finding the light" is so beautiful too with the symbolism I love this animatic sm
I'm crying and I'm not even halfway through it. I always had a bad feeling about how they were fighting over POWER, a basic necessity. I never even thought about how you need power for a HOSPITAL. My heart is broken. Wonderful story. I adore Marina and her backstory, she needs this spotlight.

Fun fact: The glasses the Octarian Soldiers wear are actually just used to help aim, the only glasses that hypnotize are the ones that Callie wore. They have completely different patterns.
If there’s one thing I’ve noted, it’s the amount of dedication and world building that has gone into this wonderful estimated backstory. Such level of focus and many speculative questions answered and covered! A level of congrats and blessings for this emotional animatic that tugged my heartstrings and documented the Octarian struggle to a T.
This is the most chilling interpretation of Marina's backstory I've ever seen. The fight scenes, and especially the part where Marina experiences the Inkantation were so beautifully done. I also love how you incorporated Pearl's beta design into the story and have it feel so true to the game's lore.

Sunny's death floored me in grief, death is not a thing you see in the Splatoon world besides the display of human bones and mummified squid in the Sunken Sea scrolls and Tartar blowing up in Octo Expansion, even Cuttlefish copped out in his disney like revival. I'm pretty sure Marina knows she helped kill her sister, and if she ever meets Champ one day in Inkopolis how will she tell him what happened to her? Overall this is one of the best animations of any game or show I've seen, it's incredible how long it is too, you had to put so much work to make it this great. Last, I like the battle dress Sunny has, what was the inspiration behind its design?
But during octo expansion, its revealed that tartar probably has the blood of thousands of octolings on his hands, or wires. There are many sugarcoated examples of death but most go over people´s heads. Like the fuzzy octolings (which become former versions of themselves, since the ooze "parasite" takes over their bodies for eternity, or the fact that octolings in the deep sea metro when outside of tests are unanchored to any respawn points, therefore them being blended is a death sentence, and its forgetting the ones that get sanitized, which is basically zombification. although they dont die fisically, they die mentally (ex. dedf1sh)
@@ItzPaydayFellas I never realized that Octoling death in the Deep Sea Metro could be permanent till recently, kinda scary actually. Knew about the blending, but didn't know it was possible since they had no respawn point outisde a test station like you mentioned. I've been trying to find info about the furry octolings and whether they temporarily or permanently changed, could you tell me where you got your info? I do agree with you first statement, death is there but to me it's still rather subtle and not outright shown (though almost shown when Agent 8 and Cuttlefish were about to be made into a smoothie, they didn't know better so they can get a pass for being naive).
@@BasedMamaJames617 i get info from sunken scrolls, texts(O.R.C.A.), messages (octo expansion's text logs) and magazines (translations) In this case it's a mix of observing worldbuilding and gameplay mechanics (specifically things like the hero mode respawn mechanics where agents 3/4 probably die when the respawn anchor turns off, as The Game says that You got splatted, and in splatoon 2, it says R.I.P. And seeing how the agents react like if agents 3/4 gave up, it would probably be like a branching universe. While something like octo expansion and the return of mamallians, the respawns are infinite to avoid losing a possible mold to use. While in splatoon 3, the levels probably hve a respawn somewhere inside the kettles, as O.R.C.A. has no reason to kill You. (And might actually be helping You , since orca might have stopped the great flood, since alterna was probably flooded after humans died. As orca might recognize inklings as inhabitants, and help them. Since orca was active at the start of the cephalopod era Another thing i noticed is that snaitization is very similar to pickling Which is the process of replacing the líquid of a (most common) pickle, which is mostly líquid. This could be how fuzzy octolings and sanitized octolings are Made. Since it's shown in both the octo expansion artbooks and somewhat in the character cretaor of the octo expansion that the octolings are submerged in sanitized ink, which is (i assume) Made from the dead bodies of the top testers. Tl:dr Spawnpoints from hero mode is My source, and octolings are brined into other ink colours, might be explained in side order

As for the pickling process of the Octolings, seems very plausible on how they got turned in Sanitized and Fuzzied Octolings. Speaking of Deadf1sh, apparently her autograph is also on the outside wall of Hotlantis, so most likely she escaped the Deep Sea Metro and is doing her best to live a normal life. No better place to do that than in Splatville, hope we see her in Side Order!

i hope the dlc has more pearlina backstory, unlike the other 2 idol groups, off the hook's is the most unique cause both pearl and marina came from completely different backgrounds 😳 nonetheless, i felt so touched watching this, it's such a great use for pearl's beta design
This is actually amazing, Not only is this incredibly accurate to the lore, but is actually incredibly possible. The moment where sunny just accepts her death realizing she’ll never be able to sing with her again is actually beautiful. When calamari incantation is played and marina listens to it, the human spirit that beckoned to flee and feel the sun now imbedded within the DNA of marine life begins to call again just listening to the song and is portrayed in a extremely awesome way. If I keep talking about how cool this is, it’ll become an essay! This fan animatic is awesome, Definitely subscribing!
@@stupjam3378 I can also tell you did a lot of research on this too! One of my favorites is that the octarian shades aren’t “hypnoshades” like everyone says and are only used to help aim!

You portrayed the octarians beautifully, how they're just trying to survive and defend themselves. This important point in marinas life, where she heard the music, is done wonderfully. I love how the little story in the hospital is from the perspective of the Octarian society, seeing the inklings as a serious danger threatening their electricity and daily lives
This was amazing! I love how you incorporated pearl’s original octoling design as a separate character! It’s really interesting to see the events of splatoon 1’s hero mode from the octarian’s point of view. I admit that Nintendo’s worldbuilding with splatoon can be a little frustrating at times (especially since we still don’t have any details on what exactly happened between Octavio and Cap’n cuttlefish besides infering on being forced apart in a war, and Nintendo also glossing over how inklings really kinda screwed the octarian’s over. I get Nintendo would be kinda of scared to villainize the Species that’s basically the main face of the IP, but still). But the lack of the more “detailed” worldbuilding gives creators a lot of creative leeway to make masterpieces like this! Also the sequence where marina was listening to the calamari inkantation, that was like, Disney level choreography! (Also marina talking to Judd kinda felt like an old anime scene, I don’t know why)
I feel like Nintendo has all the pieces for a great story internally decided, they are just holding back. The Judd scene was totally 'inspired' by Muta in the Cat Returns! The first city chase scene. Thank you!

the scene where Marina accidentally hurts sunny by destroying the flooders is just...heartbreaking. this is an amazing animatic i will not forget. it's amazing to be able to see both sides of the war's history. this also reminds me: in original plans for Splatoon 2, Pearl was gonna be an Octoling, so it's like sunny was that octoling but never made it. this is truly inkredible and deserves a billion views. ❤️
Okay but the way you implemented small canon details into it, the “this changes everything” line, the brella she fights with and to “protect my precious Pearlie” from her dialog lines in-game, and so many others. Marina also holding Pearl’s hand at the end shows also how much she loved her (Hence her canon “maiden in love” relationship with Pearl) , and THE TIME? EFFORT? I literally love every detail how you made this, you’re amazing.

I love how you can visually see how much effort and love went into this, different line widths between scenes, slight little detail changes like the eyeliner getting less filled in as time goes on because having to fill it in 200+ times isnt fun, small, slight improvements in the character rendering. I love the details in this. Like how Sunny’s mole isn’t actually real -> mirroring marina and the book. And how Sunny stops having a mole after Marina runs away. I also love how Marina made many mistakes but she’s treated like a flawed protagonist because we already know her and root for her. It’s a sad story but beautiful. I really enjoyed how you added a new layer to marina and the original pearl concept.
the part that makes me the most sad is how its sad for both sunny and marina. theres no evil person, they just have different situations. sunny wants marina to come home and they can be friends again, but she’s seen that she’s started a new life in the inkling world, and has a new best friend. so now she has nothing left, which is why she didnt move away from the killer wail. but its sad for marina too. she knows that if she went back to octo city she’ll just be back at square one, the place where all her trauma started. if she went back she wouldnt be able to feel truly free and happy.
God this was beautiful. I have some ideas for a potential part 2 where Pearl and Marina wake up in the hospital and Marina has to deal with the blowback( because finding two celebrities unconscious and injured in the middle of the road is bound to be all over the internet) as well as grappling with both her decisions that led up to that fight with Sunny , and dealing with them now. How come every decision she made for herself had to result in someone she cared about getting hurt? Would she ever truly be free of her past? She knew she was a fugitive, and if Octocity wanted her back, this wouldn't be the last time they try something like this. How would she explain what happened to Pearl and the squidizens of Inkopolis? Was it even safe to be around Pearl anymore, in case something like this happened again? Marina couldn't stand the thought of Pearl being thrust into danger without her by her side to protect her or even worse, being squidnapped as leverage to get to Marina. It scared her even more knowing that her people were not above that. She thought she wanted a life with freedom, fame, and a newfound relationship, but she never imagined any of this. She felt surrounded and yet felt so alone. These are just my ideas of what could happen after the fact, please take it with a grain of salt.

I love how ambiguous both sides feel in this interpretation of the inkling-octoling conflict. It really makes you question which side is brainwashing who, what's the truth, what's propaganda, etc. Maybe its BOTH sides who are shady, or maybe they are both just doing what's best for their own people. It's really all a matter of perspective, and that is masterfully done in this story. Excellent work!
This was incredibly well done! Maybe you could do one on Agent 8 and how they heard the Calamari Inkantation. It's implied by the mem cakes that they struggled at first with going to the surface. Is it really the best for them? What would their friends think? Maybe after hearing rumors that Marina not survived on the surface but is a beloved celebrity, it finally motivates 8 to reach the surface. Heck maybe you could even dive into 8's relationship with Marina during Octo Expansion. This is just my little idea, but again great job!
Oh my goodness. I can't even begin to describe how this made me feel. As a huge Marina fan, I've always dreamed of an exploration of her character like this...and it's just beautiful! Every second made my heart hurt in the best way. And poor Sunny is so lovable. The ending was utterly heartwrenching. And wow!! The art itself is STUNNING. It's up to you of course but I heavily implore you to repost this on twitter with the youtube link in the comments and some sort of title card as the main image. Twitter's stupid algorithm is suppressing this due to the link and more eyes should definitely be seeing this. I hate to see something so gorgeous with great writing, fight choreography, and tie ins with the canon go unseen. The duration of watching started to feel sad because I knew it was going to come to an end and I only wanted more. Please keep it up, your work is phenomenal.
I’ve been writing a Splatoon story for a while now. It’s similar to the games, with a few extra characters and events, but not too much. And this, this has totally influenced it. I had to have Agent 3 return a few Zapfish to the Octarians just so I didn’t feel guilty, and that’s really a testament to how freaking influential this video is.
i remember in the splatoon manga, after the main character saves all the zapfish, he decided to share some of them with the octarians so they still had working electricity
wait is nobody asking them how they replicated the style so well? did the person who made this have a big part on the designs for splatoon characters cuz like omg? the proportions and style is spot on
This has so much more nuance about the world building that the games ever had. This is what it’s like living in a totalitarian society. You have your own way of life sure, but influence from the outside is unacceptable. They treated media and music from the squids as if it were a disease that SHOULD NOT reach or influence the octolings. There is literally propaganda in the sky. And in the the children’s books. Propaganda that demonstrates “the importance of everyone doing Thier part in a nation to defeat the evil foreigners and hold dominance.” This is genuinely amazing, and it parallels to a lot of places like North Korea, who don’t let its citizens consume foreign media either.

The initial terror at being pulled away from a "comforting" octo life, the free-falling, the imagery of the jar shattering open- and Marina being represented only by an octopus at first, showing how her identity is tied only to being an Octarian, before being "freed" as a full-fledged humanoid. All of this is amazing, especially the fight scene at the end, but that scene in particular captivated me. The dedication and love behind this project shows in every frame. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us, I really hope this gets the attention it deserves.

It would be interesting to see an animatic based on the Comic where Marina meets Shiver and finds out the truth, that not all Octolings live underground, I mean, an interesting detail is that, Marina's reaction to knowing that there were other Octolings that had the opportunity to live freely and not her, which would be interesting to see that culture shock in knowing more the truth

My family came from an oppressive regime, and while I didn’t whiteness anything they have, I completely understand why Marina would choose to live in a more free society compared to the seemingly confining militaristic alternative presented to her. This makes me think of what my family might have needed to leave behind and face in their struggle to leave that place.
It’s why I love that now there are playable octolings, because it implies more and more are going on their own quest to free themselves and live a better life.
This genuinely made me cry... I loved how you used "beta Pearl" as an old pal of Marina and gave her her own personality and story. I'd really wish this was canon.

But that fact was Lost in Translation, as Treehouse decided not to be very faithful to the original and decided to push the narrative that Inklings are good and Octarians are evil.
In fact, a lot of personalities were changed in the translation too.
Which came back to haunt them later when Octo Expansion became a thing.
And so they had to course correct.
Of course, unless you paid close attention, you'd never catch that Pearl and Marina had their dialogue-texts slightly altered in later patches.

Maybe I'm over-analysing it but one thing I like is the fact that Marina doesn't shoot as much as Sunny uses the Octo brush since she doesn't have an ink tank, so she only shoots as much ink as she can produce/recover.

I love how the umbrella was used in the story. Pearl's bodyguard first offered it to Marina when they found her as a sign of trust and friendship, and in the battle it was used as a way to protect pearl from sunny's missiles.

But the true lore of the game shows us that both sides are just fighting for themselves, to protect who they are and how they live. This animatic showing the world from an octarian perspective was so AMAZING and something I wish was more prevalent in the world of splatoon. @@memescoffee3173 If I had to find where to chronologically place the events of this story in the main canon, I think Sunny and Marina could have met after Acht and Marina got separated when the later was assigned to an elite unit and Acht as a security member. In this story, it looks like both Marina and Sunny were on different units, but they met because they both liked music and were doing some kind of "community service" (Sunny mentioned that she hadn't done any combat training, unlike Marina), maybe they knew each other for not too long before Marina escaped, but they became close friends in a short time. I also think that Acht and Sunny couldn't have met after Marina escaped because Sunny was quickly assigned to combat training as Marina's replacement and Acht, although they knew about the mess caused by Marina's escape, abandoned their duty to become a full-time DJ in an underground club, getting sanitized not too long after Octavio got defeated by Agent 3. At the time when Sunny and Marina fought, Acht was already DJ'ing at Kamabo Co.

I feel bad for Sunny. The pain she felt when Marina crawled to Pearl's side was truly heartbreaking. It was both cute and sad at the same time. In her eyes, it looks like the inkling brainwashed Marina. I can't blame her because this is how Octavio portrayed them to the octarians, I hope she's not gone, I really like her a lot. I wonder if her eye piece has some kind of recording function in it. I want to see Marina's parent reaction to this. I like how you portrayed them taking the zapfish back and Marina's breaking out of the octarians' mindset. This is truly a work of art, so emotional. I hope there are more animatics of this AU.
For what we know she may have just been knocked unconscious because in the lore it is proven that specials can be powered up so I think its reasonable to say they can also be powered down

I love this concept for Pearl´s beta design as someone of importance in Marina´s past when she was part of the octarian army, the worldbuilding and storytelling are amazing, such interesting take on the octarians perspective from the events of the first game that greatly expands Marina´s personal conflict. I find it hard to put into words how much I adore this. Really inpiring, your passion for your work really shines through. This quickly became one of my favorite fancreated content in any game !!
Dang. Just thinking about the pain Sunny felt when Marina crawled to Pearl's side. She was thinking that she had been compromised and brainwashed but after the battle when she saw the earphones thinking that her being "brainwashed" is over she witnessed how Marina went to Pearl's side and Sunny finally knowing the truth. Marina wasn't brainwashed. She actually chose to stay and live with the inkling's side. Just thinking about how a friend finally found their own path and has joined and is living with the "enemies" is just... Ouch...
Honestly I prefer the perspective that she didn’t understand, because then her response to the devotion Marina had to Pearl and the inklings when she thought they took Marina from her. Heart-wrenching. She came so far to get her friend back but every inch feels like a canyon, so maybe she finally gave up?

I love how Pearl takes Marina's hand in order to help Marina, then at the end, Marina takes Pearl's hand in order to help Pearl. At 2:10 you can even see Sunny and Marina holding hands as they both play the same tune. It's sort of like in the end, both Marina and Sunny are out of tune. Marina sees both sides of the world and has her choices, while Sunny only sees her side of the world. Since Marina has held both Pearl and Sunny's hands, the ending feels more metaphorical.

I'm crying and I'm not even halfway through it. I always had a bad feeling about how they were fighting over POWER, a basic necessity. I never even thought about how you need power for a HOSPITAL. My heart is broken. Wonderful story. I adore Marina and her backstory, she needs this spotlight.

Fun fact: The glasses the Octarian Soldiers wear are actually just used to help aim, the only glasses that hypnotize are the ones that Callie wore. They have completely different patterns.
If there’s one thing I’ve noted, it’s the amount of dedication and world building that has gone into this wonderful estimated backstory. Such level of focus and many speculative questions answered and covered! A level of congrats and blessings for this emotional animatic that tugged my heartstrings and documented the Octarian struggle to a T.

Sunny's death floored me in grief, death is not a thing you see in the Splatoon world besides the display of human bones and mummified squid in the Sunken Sea scrolls and Tartar blowing up in Octo Expansion, even Cuttlefish copped out in his disney like revival. I'm pretty sure Marina knows she helped kill her sister, and if she ever meets Champ one day in Inkopolis how will she tell him what happened to her? Overall this is one of the best animations of any game or show I've seen, it's incredible how long it is too, you had to put so much work to make it this great. Last, I like the battle dress Sunny has, what was the inspiration behind its design?
Sunny's battle dress is inspired heavily by Freesia from Jubei-chan! I am thinking about a commentary to explain more. thank you!
But during octo expansion, its revealed that tartar probably has the blood of thousands of octolings on his hands, or wires. There are many sugarcoated examples of death but most go over people´s heads. Like the fuzzy octolings (which become former versions of themselves, since the ooze "parasite" takes over their bodies for eternity, or the fact that octolings in the deep sea metro when outside of tests are unanchored to any respawn points, therefore them being blended is a death sentence, and its forgetting the ones that get sanitized, which is basically zombification. although they dont die fisically, they die mentally (ex. dedf1sh)

Knew about the blending, but didn't know it was possible since they had no respawn point outisde a test station like you mentioned. I've been trying to find info about the furry octolings and whether they temporarily or permanently changed, could you tell me where you got your info? I do agree with you first statement, death is there but to me it's still rather subtle and not outright shown (though almost shown when Agent 8 and Cuttlefish were about to be made into a smoothie, they didn't know better so they can get a pass for being naive).

In this case it's a mix of observing worldbuilding and gameplay mechanics (specifically things like the hero mode respawn mechanics where agents 3/4 probably die when the respawn anchor turns off, as The Game says that You got splatted, and in splatoon 2, it says R.I.P.
And seeing how the agents react like if agents 3/4 gave up, it would probably be like a branching universe. While something like octo expansion and the return of mamallians, the respawns are infinite to avoid losing a possible mold to use. While in splatoon 3, the levels probably hve a respawn somewhere inside the kettles, as O.R.C.A. has no reason to kill You. (And might actually be helping You , since orca might have stopped the great flood, since alterna was probably flooded after humans died. As orca might recognize inklings as inhabitants, and help them. Since orca was active at the start of the cephalopod era
Another thing i noticed is that snaitization is very similar to pickling
Which is the process of replacing the líquid of a (most common) pickle, which is mostly líquid. This could be how fuzzy octolings and sanitized octolings are Made. Since it's shown in both the octo expansion artbooks and somewhat in the character cretaor of the octo expansion that the octolings are submerged in sanitized ink, which is (i assume) Made from the dead bodies of the top testers.

Speaking of Deadf1sh, apparently her autograph is also on the outside wall of Hotlantis, so most likely she escaped the Deep Sea Metro and is doing her best to live a normal life. No better place to do that than in Splatville, hope we see her in Side Order!

This is actually amazing, Not only is this incredibly accurate to the lore, but is actually incredibly possible. The moment where sunny just accepts her death realizing she’ll never be able to sing with her again is actually beautiful. When calamari incantation is played and marina listens to it, the human spirit that beckoned to flee and feel the sun now imbedded within the DNA of marine life begins to call again just listening to the song and is portrayed in a extremely awesome way. If I keep talking about how cool this is, it’ll become an essay! This fan animatic is awesome, Definitely subscribing!

I love how the little story in the hospital is from the perspective of the Octarian society, seeing the inklings as a serious danger threatening their electricity and daily lives
This was amazing! I love how you incorporated pearl’s original octoling design as a separate character! It’s really interesting to see the events of splatoon 1’s hero mode from the octarian’s point of view. I admit that Nintendo’s worldbuilding with splatoon can be a little frustrating at times (especially since we still don’t have any details on what exactly happened between Octavio and Cap’n cuttlefish besides infering on being forced apart in a war, and Nintendo also glossing over how inklings really kinda screwed the octarian’s over. I get Nintendo would be kinda of scared to villainize the Species that’s basically the main face of the IP, but still). But the lack of the more “detailed” worldbuilding gives creators a lot of creative leeway to make masterpieces like this!
Also the sequence where marina was listening to the calamari inkantation, that was like, Disney level choreography!
(Also marina talking to Judd kinda felt like an old anime scene, I don’t know why)

the scene where Marina accidentally hurts sunny by destroying the flooders is just...heartbreaking. this is an amazing animatic i will not forget. it's amazing to be able to see both sides of the war's history. this also reminds me: in original plans for Splatoon 2, Pearl was gonna be an Octoling, so it's like sunny was that octoling but never made it. this is truly inkredible and deserves a billion views. ❤️

I love how you can visually see how much effort and love went into this, different line widths between scenes, slight little detail changes like the eyeliner getting less filled in as time goes on because having to fill it in 200+ times isnt fun, small, slight improvements in the character rendering. Its beautiful I love it so much

I love the details in this. Like how Sunny’s mole isn’t actually real -> mirroring marina and the book. And how Sunny stops having a mole after Marina runs away. I also love how Marina made many mistakes but she’s treated like a flawed protagonist because we already know her and root for her. It’s a sad story but beautiful. I really enjoyed how you added a new layer to marina and the original pearl concept.
the part that makes me the most sad is how its sad for both sunny and marina. theres no evil person, they just have different situations.
sunny wants marina to come home and they can be friends again, but she’s seen that she’s started a new life in the inkling world, and has a new best friend. so now she has nothing left, which is why she didnt move away from the killer wail.
but its sad for marina too. she knows that if she went back to octo city she’ll just be back at square one, the place where all her trauma started. if she went back she wouldnt be able to feel truly free and happy.
God this was beautiful. I have some ideas for a potential part 2 where Pearl and Marina wake up in the hospital and Marina has to deal with the blowback( because finding two celebrities unconscious and injured in the middle of the road is bound to be all over the internet) as well as grappling with both her decisions that led up to that fight with Sunny , and dealing with them now. How come every decision she made for herself had to result in someone she cared about getting hurt? Would she ever truly be free of her past? She knew she was a fugitive, and if Octocity wanted her back, this wouldn't be the last time they try something like this. How would she explain what happened to Pearl and the squidizens of Inkopolis? Was it even safe to be around Pearl anymore, in case something like this happened again? Marina couldn't stand the thought of Pearl being thrust into danger without her by her side to protect her or even worse, being squidnapped as leverage to get to Marina. It scared her even more knowing that her people were not above that. She thought she wanted a life with freedom, fame, and a newfound relationship, but she never imagined any of this. She felt surrounded and yet felt so alone.
These are just my ideas of what could happen after the fact, please take it with a grain of salt.

This works perfectly for fleshing out Marina’s backstory. Seriously love the choice to turn Pearl’s beta design into a character of its own, Sunny. The amount of work that must’ve gone into this is stunning.

Oh my gosh I can't believe I never realized how much potential Splatoon animated fight scenes have until I watched this-- EVERYTHING WAS SO PERFECT THIS IS THE BEST SPLATOON CONTENT IVE EVER CONSUMED
I love how ambiguous both sides feel in this interpretation of the inkling-octoling conflict. It really makes you question which side is brainwashing who, what's the truth, what's propaganda, etc. Maybe its BOTH sides who are shady, or maybe they are both just doing what's best for their own people. It's really all a matter of perspective, and that is masterfully done in this story.

This was incredibly well done! Maybe you could do one on Agent 8 and how they heard the Calamari Inkantation. It's implied by the mem cakes that they struggled at first with going to the surface. Is it really the best for them? What would their friends think? Maybe after hearing rumors that Marina not survived on the surface but is a beloved celebrity, it finally motivates 8 to reach the surface. Heck maybe you could even dive into 8's relationship with Marina during Octo Expansion. This is just my little idea, but again great job!

Oh my goodness. I can't even begin to describe how this made me feel. As a huge Marina fan, I've always dreamed of an exploration of her character like this...and it's just beautiful! Every second made my heart hurt in the best way. And poor Sunny is so lovable. The ending was utterly heartwrenching. And wow!! The art itself is STUNNING. The detail and sense of movement is unbelievably good. I don't think I'll be able to stop thinking about this video for a very long time. Thank you so much for bringing it into the world 💚💗
It's up to you of course but I heavily implore you to repost this on twitter with the youtube link in the comments and some sort of title card as the main image. Twitter's stupid algorithm is suppressing this due to the link and more eyes should definitely be seeing this. I hate to see something so gorgeous with great writing, fight choreography, and tie ins with the canon go unseen. The duration of watching started to feel sad because I knew it was going to come to an end and I only wanted more. Please keep it up, your work is phenomenal.

I’ve been writing a Splatoon story for a while now. It’s similar to the games, with a few extra characters and events, but not too much. And this, this has totally influenced it. I had to have Agent 3 return a few Zapfish to the Octarians just so I didn’t feel guilty, and that’s really a testament to how freaking influential this video is.
i remember in the splatoon manga, after the main character saves all the zapfish, he decided to share some of them with the octarians so they still had working electricity

This has so much more nuance about the world building that the games ever had. This is what it’s like living in a totalitarian society. You have your own way of life sure, but influence from the outside is unacceptable. They treated media and music from the squids as if it were a disease that SHOULD NOT reach or influence the octolings. There is literally propaganda in the sky. And in the the children’s books. Propaganda that demonstrates “the importance of everyone doing Thier part in a nation to defeat the evil foreigners and hold dominance.” This is genuinely amazing, and it parallels to a lot of places like North Korea, who don’t let its citizens consume foreign media either.

The initial terror at being pulled away from a "comforting" octo life, the free-falling, the imagery of the jar shattering open- and Marina being represented only by an octopus at first, showing how her identity is tied only to being an Octarian, before being "freed" as a full-fledged humanoid.
All of this is amazing, especially the fight scene at the end, but that scene in particular captivated me. The dedication and love behind this project shows in every frame. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us, I really hope this gets the attention it deserves.

It would be interesting to see an animatic based on the Comic where Marina meets Shiver and finds out the truth, that not all Octolings live underground, I mean, an interesting detail is that, Marina's reaction to knowing that there were other Octolings that had the opportunity to live freely and not her, which would be interesting to see that culture shock in knowing more the truth

My family came from an oppressive regime, and while I didn’t whiteness anything they have, I completely understand why Marina would choose to live in a more free society compared to the seemingly confining militaristic alternative presented to her.
This makes me think of what my family might have needed to leave behind and face in their struggle to leave that place.
It’s why I love that now there are playable octolings, because it implies more and more are going on their own quest to free themselves and live a better life.
This genuinely made me cry... I loved how you used "beta Pearl" as an old pal of Marina and gave her her own personality and story. I'd really wish this was canon.
