I always thought of Paruko as a bad pet owner, but now that I know more about her clownfish, it seems more like two depressed friends who are struggling to take care of themselves and each other.

Big Man. In his boss fight he covers himself in ink and seems able to hide himself on it similarly to an inkling/octoling. So maybe other creatures like him tend to play turf like that as well?

Ngl hightide era is SUPER underrated and is one of my favourite splatbands. Like, if they don’t return I’ll be disappointed cuz they never said that they broke up. So let’s hope for the best🤞

This is the semi-obscure stuff i love. The idea of in-universe bands are some of my favourite things in media, as it makes the world feel a bit more lived in. Keep up the good work and have a nice day.

I'd have assumed the state of Paruko's clownfish is Indicative of her own self care failure. Someone who isn't taking care of themself is probably unlikely to be tending to another's life.

@Jonathan Kasulke Well it all depends on the story, but if we do, I hope we get Squid Squad or Wet Floor, I don’t know about Chirpy Chips now, I don’t trust Paruko, I hope this “clownfish” thing is a rumour or a misunderstanding
@Jonathan Kasulke I’d LOVE it! It would also be interesting to hear what they would sound like in other genres of music, Not to mention that Pearl made a promise that they’d never break up, no letter what. It wouldn’t be in character for her to turn and break that promise. Plus, I don’t think I don’t I could let go of Off the Hook yet anyway, it feels so hard and almost too much to bare, especially with all those amazing things they’ve presented us with in the game, I was just trying to be open-‘minded
Fun fact, their voice actors actually did a collab song called ‘This Is How We Do’ and I think it would fit perfectly in the game as it has a chaotic and fun vibe.

@Jonathan Kasulke Yeah, because the main purpose of them being tin the game is they’re replacing and filling in for the Squid Sisters when Callie went missing and Marie was struggling and trying to rescue her, Off the Hook’s situation isn’t exactly like the Squid Sisters’, where they were working on other stuff which meant they were separate from each other which was what caused them to slowly drift apart and Off the Hook don’t seem to be showing any signs of separating or drifting apart, they haven’t mentioned or hinted at anything, so I reckon that they’re continuing, I believe they were even talking about touring, so it would make sense for them to also show up in Splatsville, it could also be like a “reminder of home” a reminder of Inkopolis, our inkling’s/octoling’s original home
I personally think it would it would also be somewhat lazy it Nintendo just pulled the “Team wins splatfest, idol on opposite team gets squidnapped and/or turns evil” thing again. Just because the final splatfests seem to affect the story, it shouldn’t mean that they should do the same plot over and over again, because I’m kind of concerned that that’s what it’s going to be like and don’t get me wrong, that would be cool, but I just think there may be other ways that they could incorporate the theme into the story or even just the game
This was SO enjoyable! I love learning about these charecters. Im very much looking forward to the next segments ^^ Its so cool to see such passion for the Splatoon universe, and Im really happy you go through so much effort to share it with those of us who can't read japanese and dont really know where to find it. My theory on the clownfish is that they just pick a sea anemone that they like and become friends. Kinda like roommates maybe. Maybe “dying if neglect” means more like… self neglect..?
11:11 HAHA Paruko's voice is NOT altered, in Splat 3 where she's now a shopkeeper we can hear her voice is naturally synthetized.
I'm sure Paruko is a pun on PARCO, which is Japanese department stores that caters towards a young, hip crowd. Shibuya PARCO is know as the place of official Nintendo store in Japan and the appearance of shops is also similar to Splatoon3's Hotlantis.
I love this series' world building more than any other Nintendo game rn, and these videos are just strengthening that so much. Keep on making these fresh af vids

In terms of Splatoon 1 itself, it felt like the main thing the developers wanted for this game was a sound that was…unorganized and rampant. Going for a sound that feels inspired by bands from the 90s, since many went for very unclean and heavy riffs, often just letting loose with little care.
For me, this style was a great way to introduce this series, and gave it an edge in its very upbeat and grunge sort of sound it went for. Though…I do have some thoughts on Splatoon 2’s music, and I’ll put that in the second video.

at 16:59 i think ryu-chang looks like mike portnoy, dream theater drummer, which idk if its just a coincidence but i think the devs know a lot about western music and their styles cause of the similarities, i mean with the octo expansion everyone mentions the tupac and biggie outfits for pearl and marina, but i also like the pointing out of hightide eras billie joe outfits! i just adore little details like this as someone who lives for music, i love the world building in this game and how they use music to do that
it could be a coincidence, but I can't say I'm familiar enough with how the drummers of other famous bands look to say for sure (?) but either way I DEFINITELY see the resemblence, neat!

here’s an idea: chirpy chips is based off of gorillaz
a bubbly guitar player (noiji) is on good terms with a much quieter green bass player (raian) and the drummer is a tall protective guardian (shikaku). the last member likes to play on less memorable instruments like synths or maybe melodicas and is the frontman, in charge of the visual of the band (paruko)
paruko lore: “shes described as singing in a low energy way although her voice gets more energetic in her newer songs.” comparing the way 2D sings in clint eastwood to tranz, he gets much more energetic over time, just like paruko.
shikaku lore: “he blows a fuse, gets crabby.” russel tends to act similar, especially when he gets woken up from a nap.

Would be interesting to see Paruko return in Splat3 as a solo artist.
Maybe she got kicked out of Chirpy Chips for being lazy, and her Clownfish commited... pack up bags and get a new anenome.
Maybe she came to the Splatlands in order to help her find a new drive for her music and to use the chaotic energy of Splatsville to make new music.
Or heck maybe she'd even appear in the single player campeign as a sort of assist.
That would make an interesting hero mode or DLC and the story could be like that SpongeBob episode ‘Have You Seen This Snail?”, obviously not an exact copy, but it would give off those vibes

I'd expect an english localization someday, but there's no word on it yet. my bet is that we wont see an english haikara walker until around the time of Splatoon 3's release.

Hightide Era was my favorite band from Splatoon 1 and the reason I found out about Splatoon band lore in the first place haha. Nowadays I own a shirt from Splatoon with the omega-3 band and I love it so much but I still am waiting for the day when someone actually recognizes it as a Splatoon shirt. Very interesting video though so thank you for all your translations and interesting tidbits!

Biggest lore issue in Splatoon 3 is, despite Harmony being a full shopkeeper character, we still got basically no information about her clownfish.

Paruko's section is more concerning now that we see her clownfish is somehow still alive as of Splatoon 3. I thought they were just strangely colored but now I'm wondering if we'll get any extra lore about them

Clownfish irl can get hurt/ killed if they don't clean themselves regulary with the sea anemone they live in. Normally the poisen that the anemone has doesn't affect them but it can happen from time to time. So i assume (if i look too deep into it) that (if the clownsfish is as sentient as you said) the relationship ended up being toxic due to both of them not interacting enough and them just drifting away emotionally& as said in the official work being neglectful. But because clownfish usually don't change homes they stayed with her even if it kills them. While she doesn't care.
