- Animal Kingdom, the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner, won the world's richest race on Saturday, the $10 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai.
Ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer Graham Motion, Animal Kingdom overcame a wide draw in post 11 in the field of 12 to have a clean trip. Animal Kingdom stalked top American mare Royal Delta for the first mile of the race over about 1 1/4 miles before taking a clear lead in the stretch.
Animal Kingdom was challenged late by Red Cadeaux, but led by enough to hold off the threat, winning by about two lengths. He was timed in 2:03.22.

I also liked K Derby 2011 with John V..this horse is a Monster going down the stretch..gotta love this horse.
He ate them for breakfast. Look at his ears in the stretch, he was like on a casual morning workout! Bred, trained, raced American.

Woot! Poor Royal Delta, I was hoping she would win,but she ended up losing at last place!
I wouldn't call a field where 10 of the horses were G1 winners, a "weak field". Red Cadeaux is a G1 winner and an out-and-out stayer (never won below 12f), which means he would have been fresh as a daisy in the last furlong, especially since he took to that demanding Tapeta surface - many don't. Planteur also took to the surface and merely duplicated his form of last year. But look how AK won - ears pricked throughout the stretch, like he was on a casual morning workout.
rosario is a beast !! lol hes already made me alot of money at gulfstream this past week thats my boy
I like him so much, he is a great horse (: I'm looking forward to his foals!
That was amazing - it was like he turned the throttle on
Agreed, but I also think they should have kept the jockey. Johnny fought AK all the way in the queen Anne and In my opinion totally wrecked any chance he had at winning.
Rosario was wrong because he didn't need to push the pace from the front. Just sit on Point of Entry's flank. POE has an excellent turn of foot and is superb at sustaining it over 2-3 furlongs. AK has a faster turn of foot but cannot sustain it for as long. Rosario should have waited until they were in the stretch to blow past POE and not give POE time to grind AK down over a longer distance.
Excellent thoroughbred racing, many congratulations on your big win in the cup of dubai!!
Very good condition of its rider Joel Rosario!
What a horse Red Cadeux Is! He must be one of the greatest 'international horses' of all time!
Lee SOG No arguments there. Can't wait to see what he does in Australia!
Fantastic AK!! Just beautiful!!!!
What an exciting horse he is... can't wait to see him at Royal Ascot
Fantastic Win
Now Australian owned, but his breeding would suggest he will not be suited out here and dirt trackers raely are either. Still a great horse.
YES!!!!
Perseverance pays off..
A Greatt race from a Great horse........

Where did I say Rosario's a scrub? I said that Johnny V isn't a scrub. The "either" was to add to the fact that he was AK's regular jockey after the Derby win.
And didn't Rosario also manage to get Animal Kingdom beaten because of bad riding prior to this race (something that was repeatedly mentioned in this video)? Every jockey has bad days and bad rides.
dubai i love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
Superbe victoire d'animal kingdom, il a gagné facile et prouve encore une fois que c'est un véritable champion, il m'a vraiment impressionné, c dommage que les américains soit pas plu respectueux de leurs animaux,
nice rece and wondr
erfull game from horse no 12
The pace was no where near as slow as 2011, one of the slowest I've ever seen in a 10f race - the final time that year was just shy of 2:06, snail-pace slow. This year's time was faster than the great Cigar's on dirt in '96, and faster than the first DWC at Meydan. Also, if Rosario "had plenty of horse left" at the top of the stretch, so did the other jockey's sitting off HIS flank, but he took them apart in a romp.
ese es un gran dominicano
We get the "weak field" bit every year.
This was mentioned in the Derby post race Saturday when talking to Orb's jock Joel R. So what has the 2011 Derby winner been up to? only winning the world's richest race!
Because Johnny was the regular jockey after the Derby, and he isn't a scrub either.
is he finally racing @ Ascot?
domage pour méandre
Animal Kingdom
That is a very weak field. Red Cadeaux couldnt win the Melbourne Cup
fireworks could scare the horses.
