  • The drought for America in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) came to an end March 30 when champion Animal Kingdom galloped clear in the homestretch for a spectacular score at Meydan Racecourse.
    Joel Rosario rode the 2011 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) victor to a 2 1/2-length triumph in the $10 million event-the world's richest horse race -for trainer Graham Motion and owners Arrowfield Stud and Team Valor International.
    Australia also shares in this World Cup victory as a majority interest in the 5-year-old son of Leroidesanimaux, who was purchased by John Messara's Aussie-based Arrowfield from Barry Irwin's Team Valor last December. Animal Kingdom is to begin his stud career later this year in Australia.
    Since 2010, when the World Cup relocated to Meydan and its Tapeta racing surface, no American-based horse had been in the top three finishers in the international event.

    A terrific win for AK. US racing is under siege and AK is a good positive story. He may be going down under for breeding but he is a American race horse at his heart and soul. Hopefully there is an agreement to bring him home when he is done with the breeding shed, he is a good candidate for the Kentucky Horse Park Hall of Champions with Cigar, Funny Cide, Go For Gin and Da Hoss.

    And the DWC is back in American hands! Yes, AK was bred, trained and raced in the US. The fact that he was sold to an Aussie breeder at the tail end of his career doesn't make him an Aussie horse, just like So You Think didn't become an Irish horse when he was sold to Irish interests - he was still an ANZ horse. AK took apart the likes of Hunter's Light and others who raced and won on that Tapeta surface. His ears were pricked throughout the stretch! What a horse!!

    I teared up when the jockey patted him. That horse deserves tons of pats and love!

    Perseverance pays off..
    I picked the unknown Animal Kingdom to win the Kentucky Derby, He did.
    I've watched him plug away with injuries and and too few races.....
    I've been waiting for THIS race, which I knew he would win, He did..........
    A GREAT HORSE, and a great horse race........

    I checked up on some of the horses you mentioned - both Danedream and Nathaniel have been retired and Snow Fairy is still recovering from injury. Farhh shouldn't really be on your list, as he has never won a Group race, let alone a G1, and I already mentioned CDA having run in the Sheema in 2012. But I don't feel any of them would have beaten AK on that day. His acceleration was effortless, ears pricking all through the stretch. I hope they enter him in the Queen Anne.

    Like I already said, the DWC featured no less than 10 G1 winners, which makes it a strong race. Any horse who wins a G1 race is a good horse. Yes, Monterosso couldn't win a G1 in the UK, but he handled the Tapeta in 2012 better than the others, having trained and raced on it. What makes AK's win all the more impressive is that he beat horses who won big races on this track. And look at past winners: Dubai Millennium, Curlin, Cigar, Electrocutionist etc..., some of the best of recent times.

    I wouldn't call a race where 10 of the horses were G1 winners "a poor race". Red Cadeaux is a G1 winner and an out-and-out stayer (never won below 12f), which means he would have been fresh as a daisy in the last furlong, especially since he took to that demanding Tapeta surface - many don't. Planteur also took to the surface and merely duplicated his form of last year. But look how AK won - ears pricked throughout the stretch, like he was on a casual morning workout.

    Yes Curlin was beaten easily in the 08 Classic because he didn't handle the surface, a different synthetic than the Tapeta at Meydan. Look what happened to Dullahan at the DWC, a 3-time G1 winner on synthetic in the US. It takes a special horse to win on every surface, including the unique Tapeta. I think AK would also have won the BC Mile if not for such a horrible trip, running below his optimum distance. Please tell me which current horses would have made this G1 DWC field any stronger?

    Juddmonte .... thus backing up the form. People have said well CDA 2 lenghts off Frankel and CDA and SNA proximity in the Sheema prove that SNA ran under par? Yet they ignore that the ground significantly effects races. CDA is twice the horse he is on soft ground than he is on heavy .... plus Frankel clearly didnt like the mud and missed the start. Secondly as we have seen on direct formlines Farhh must have also ran under par in the Juddmonte as he wasnt far off SYT who in turn wasnt far off

    Cont: I'm hoping they enter him in the Queen Anne, instead of the POW. He's shown his ability and turn of foot at a mile in the BC meeting, and a win in the QA will further highlight his versatility (to go with his wins on multiple surfaces). It would also be a good race for him in case he doesn't handle going right-handed, though this horse seems to handle everything. His speed/stamina combo will be perfect for the straight mile of the QA. And he will be sent early to familiarize.

    I do feel that AK owners think the same and will send him to race in the Queen Anne so it should be pretty competitive, however don't forget that horses second to Frankel are top of the class and Farhh, if handled well, will be really hard to beat this season no matter who he'll face.

    CDA. HOWEVEr, Fahrr raced against Frankel twice losing both times by the same distance. This would suggest that Farhh ran to form in both races, unless people seriously believe that he ran below form in each race against Frankel and SNA did the same.

  • @robbieshuman7571
    @robbieshuman7571 11 років тому

    I agree Farhh is a good horse and may have beaten SYT in the Prince of Wales, but how do you explain him getting reeled in by Moonlight Cloud in the Moulin? Also, If not for Frankel in the Sussex, Farhh would have beaten a non-Group winner and Frankel's pacesetter, and I don't know what happened to SNA in the Juddmonte. However, I now see he ran enough solid G1 races to be on Josh's DWC list, though it wouldn't have made a difference with AK. :)

    Cirrus Des Aigles was entered in the Carnival last year, but in the lesser Sheema Classic, because his connections must have felt he would be more suited to it than the DWC. I disagree that this DWC field is "nothing" compared to those horses you mentioned, and I doubt any of them would have beaten AK considering the ease of his victory over G1 horses. Also, I doubt you would have called this DWC field "average" had a European-based horse won it. On to Ascot for AK. cont...

    @simonpicket7245 11 років тому

    Robbie your criticism of Fahhr is harsh. But for a certain horse he would have won the Sussex stakes and the Juddmonte beating SNA! Also had he not been trapped on the rails SYT may have fallen to him as well!

    This field is pretty decent definately not ribbish. I do think the timing of this race hurts the level of competition though. Hard to keep the horse in top form all year when you start him up at a peak level this early. Unless you treat this as a prep race.

    Fahhr is much better over 10f than at a mile and possibly ran under par against MC in the Moulin. Nothing happened to SNA in the Juddmonte. If you look at separate from lines you can see this.
    SNA lost narrowly to CDA in the Dubai Sheema Classic.
    CDA beat SYT narrowly in the Champ Stakes.
    Farhh would have only lost narrowly or perhaps beaten SYT in the POW.
    (all on good ish ground)
    This suggests that Farhh racing SNA would be very close on known form.
    They were extremely close in the

    This is a good race. There were probably good odds in this race. When horses reach the stretch- Oh Yes! That's excitement. Horse racing has an entertainment side and a business side. What the general racing public haven't been told is racing's made of two parts: Profitcapping and Handicapping. At google.com and horseracinganswers.com you can learn much more about Profitcapping. Profitcapping predicts profit or money to be made over months and several years (no selecting horses). Handicapping predicts the order of finish of races (no money involved).

    No offence, but the melb cup is/was a poor race, as was this. This was quite possibly the weakest DWC ever run, thus the winner is nothing special at all. Side Glance and Hunters Light in proximity?!! Red Cadeaux is a G2 performer at best. This was a glorified G3 race.
