India and Thai culture is similar... For some part... We great in a same way.. Say namaste.... Lord ram is also worship in Thailand.... Ayodhya the birth place of ram is called ayuttha in Thai..... Lots of love from India
10 years ago you posted this video, I just watched for memories, learning proper greeting is key to opening your beautiful country and meet so many wonderful people, thanks for having me here in paradise called the land of smiles 🙏🇹🇭🥰🥳❤️
But this greeting original creator is India. It is an Indian greeting. Copied by Thailand and many other countries.
to bring to Thailand 1. good thinking, good saying, good doing, 2. generosity 3. good sense of humor.
True, and don't bring sarcasm, judgemental attitude and fears of trying the best streetfood in the world 🙏🇹🇭🥰🥳
kob kun krap for sharing this.... :D
Love from India!
I just decided to go to Thailand..never thought to do it before in my life but I'm now realizing how beautiful these women are. Thanks for the lesson in greetings!
Thanks for sharing. I learn from this when I travel in Bangkok
Very Informative!
amazing culture. Nice video !
Excellent
Thank' a lot for this video !
informative vdo kruu mia...would like to see more
Very useful! Kop-kun Kha!
Interesting.
Namaste (Indian)/Wei (Thailand) is such a gentle way of showing respect. The origins of this form of gesture can be traced in religions that originated in India (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism). It has a strong spiritual meaning to it which is so fascinating.
We use it in indonesia too
Thanks for showing the 3 levels of wai
Thank you
I had no idea! That's awesome
I learned a lot!
kob kun ka..thanks alot !!!
Wonderful video - very clearly explained. Korb khun maak khrap :-)

Sa was dee ka! Kob Han ka for the video
Good job Sao Thai!!
know how to"wai" is important when foreigners come to Thailand. :-)
Really great. I learned a lot here. _/\_ from India :)
This is same just like us isn't it??
Greetings from Greece!
I think there is a 4th WAI :: when you greet the King. The hands go on top of the head and you bow 3 times. . or am I wrong????
So the person who start to say hello is always at the same or lower level of who you have to say hello. Right?
Useful as hell, thanks.
I am indigenous Montagnard I love Thai culture I learn Thai language how to say hello, thank you.
Hello / swadde khap
Swadde khrap
Thank you / khop khun khrap.
Khop khun kha
Great video! My only feedback would be to stabilize the video before putting the text on the screen
this is very cute and interesting. how about if you meet someone younger than you? do i wai if i want to say hello to a thai child or teenager? thanks :-)
Thai greeting ไหว้/wai has its origin in the Indic Añjali Mudrā, like the Indian namasté and the Cambodian sampeah.
learn2speakthai, this is very helpful, thanks for teaching us farrangs! I must tell you that I have a big crush on the teacher! 😁 You're incredibly beautiful and have a most wonderful way about you! 💕
Yes... We called it namaste... Love from India
Yes we Indians and Thai are connected 🤗💕

What if you're carrying shopping?
to do good
This is so fascinating. I wonder if it's appropriate to use wai when receiving a Thai food delivery or if that would be considered rude. I would think that if it were me delivering American food in Thailand that I would appreciate a "thank you very much!" in my language :)
It not appropriate to wai when you received services, they will be embarrassed if you do so."thank you very much!" and a little head nod would be enough to show your gratitude.
Haha! That's what I did when I received my order! A little head bow, and thanked them. Now I know I didn't do anything rude or inappropriate. Thank you! :)
learn2speakthai สวัสดีครับ sister, how are you you?
I think it depends on the generation, as a farang/mamuang/expat, in the beginning I was being polite as my mother taught me to be, at the same time learning the ways of doing things here, I met people with wai, I said thank you when they served food, but something I did, that wasn't understood was saying thanks for food after I finished, they did smile and nodded with folded hands, from my experience, as long as you smile and are being polite, most Thais are just happy to meet you, if you live here you'll find out what the correct ways are, if you're just visiting, smiling, being polite and definitely be modest and humble, you'll be accepted and respected by everyone just for trying, old school traditional ways here are not complicated if you really want to learn, it is so good to leave my country and come home 🥰 here I feel so blessed, I love Thai people, I love Thailand and your culture, there is room for all kinds of people, you don't judge, not openly at least 🤗 as long as people are happy, you guys are happy for them and more tha willing to teach and learn everything about the most amazing country in the world, yeah, can't tell I'm happy here can ya!? Thanks for teaching us, thanks for having us, thanks for making us feel so welcome 🇹🇭🙏🇹🇭🙏🇹🇭🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Very informative! :) How wrong is it to put your hands up instead of sinking your head? Do i insult someone with this? Greetings :)
It's not wrong, but to pay respect by leaning forward It is an expression of humility.

You're beautiful

I do this to my muay thai instructor
Yup
Wait what do you greet the Muay Thai instructor with?
It's quiet similar as greeting in India 🤔
tanukooki bts similar for the hands as they are brought together. But in India, i believe they dont have the levels. Or may be I dont know. But it is different.
@@namnamenamae yes you are correct in India we don't have levels for greeting
By keeping my hands tights against my chest, It's very difficult to low your head. Am I the only one in this situation ^^ ?
Gaetan L'haridon you can slightly move your hands up, away from your chest. Thr hands would be around your chin when you bow your head. 🙏
Kap kun krap!!!! 🙏
I am thai. but i dont know how to speak thai
Its the same with us hindus...... Just that we are forgetting our traditions
Like sem our culutre in nepal sem sem 😂

Corona Virus Greetings technique (2020 video title) :D
No . . . . .foreigners do not need to do this especially to anyone beneath you in the social heirarchy. If you do this to younger people or street vendors they will just think you foolish. Just say "krap".
right
I am a Christian and can not bow down to Buddhas because that is considered idolatry in my religion. How well do Thai's understand that others may not think its good to bow to statues? What is the Thai reaction if someone does not bow to a statue?
+John Doe If you are a true Christian you will respect every religion and behave respectfully and according to a local custom while in a different country. There is a difference between idolatry and behaving according to custom.
Also, if you maintain an inoffensive attitude, people usually feel this... they won't hold it against you even if you fail to observe one form or another.
Mirka Hordziejewicz Mirka, I am a true Christian and a TRUE Christian follows CHRIST and the words of God according to the Bible. I'm not saying things just because of some idea I conjured up but because of what God has said.
If obeying God when God specifically said not to do a specific thing is offensive to another culture then that is between that culture and God. I'm going to do what God said without considering another culture's feelings. I'm mainly interested in the Thai's reaction to a Christian's obedience in abstaining from bowing to an idol.
Here are some verses on idols and statues that show that a believer should not bow down to them,
Joshua 23:7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, NOR BOW YOURSELVES UNTO THEM:
Exodus 20:4-5 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: THOU SHALT NOT BOW DOWN THYSELF TO THEM, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
You must do what you feel is right. I feel what I said is right. Each according to his own.
Mirka Hordziejewicz I just want to make sure some old Muy Thai guy doesn't come after me with a cane. ;)
If that is likely to happen I'll just make sure I up my jogging game before visiting. ha ha ha
Frankly - from my experience of Thai people, no "old Muy Thai guy" would care to come after you with a cane.
They are peaceful people :)
