- In this episode, we will be reviewing our past May the 4th videos and showing how we would make an extending, retractable, and duelable lightsaber. We even show how we would mechanize it and add lighting or sound. Also, we share an offer to get $100 for making your own lightsaber. #lightsaber #starwars
LIGHTSABER BUILD CONTEST:
1. Make an electronic, duelable extendable and retractable lightsaber. Electronic: must use electricity to power mechanism for retracting and extending the blade. Extendable: The blade must be fully concealed by the hilt when retracted and extend to at least two feet, exposing at least 90% of the blade outside of the hilt. Retractable: From a fully extended position must pull fully inside the hilt. Duelable: When extended, the blade can strike objects without breaking or bending.
2. Contact us by email at yourgeekfix@gmail.com by 11:00 PM CST November 1, 2023. You may submit pictures or links to video. We will contact you to set up a video call to interview you and film you demonstrating your lightsaber.
3. Viewers will be asked to vote for a winner on the community page, unless there is less than two submissions.
4. The winner will be the individual with the most votes, or the only applicant.
5. The winner will receive a $100 Amazon gift card code by email. Winners are responsible for local taxes or fines. This is not a game of chance, but an award.

Wooo...geek fix famous lol ....after watching this, the wheels in my head started to turn....ok ok they started to turn more... hey hey they do turn just more at certain times ... lol
Well played
A pulley system? That’s genius!!!!!! I can’t believe no one’s thought of something like this for a retractable design before👍 I’ll definately use the tips from your tutorial for when I make a version 2 of my retractable lightsaber design👍
Very cool!
Thought about? He's not the first... But.. the first to film a production around it. Sure
@BroughtToYouByDDean I looked for someone else, even had a contest. None so far can expand and retract without taking longer than two seconds. Or don't meet the retracting definition meaning it is pulled back in by its self. I am still seeking links if you don't mind sharing one that can.
So inspiring to see your videos. Great job man really looking forward to seeing what people come out with from this
Me too.
Love your videos. Thank you
Thank you
Letss goo!! Thank you bro
Any time!
I used to fence before I destroyed my foot, and am now getting into LARPing as a safer alternative. I don't have the skills or the time for this one, most likely, but I wanna see it done! I think the closest I've done is a glowing wooden staff, which doubles as a stealth cane. I think LARP props that double as disability shit is the coolest thing ever tbh.
That is cool! If you have pics of your LARPing events or a project, we'd love to put it in the community section. I hadn't thought about it, but that is also a good topic for our podcast.
@@YourGeekFix Sure! We're planning campaigns as I speak. It's probably a pretty rich topic, too. There seems to be a huge draw for disabled players in LARP. I think a third of the people in my group are disabled, and a long-term goal is to find ways to play that are safe for everyone, whether that means fine-tuning a less physical combat system or allowing for rest periods. And finding ways to make disabilities look like the result of some kind of epic magic battle (instead of me slipping and falling on my ass) just makes me feel freaking cool, ya know?
Interesting info about lightsabers! Where is the original video/podcast you're referencing in this one?

@@YourGeekFix Thanks!
This is so cool! It wouod be cool to see someone make a polished verion of this with the clear tubing.
Done stay tuned.
That’s smart. 👏
Thanks man! Haven't seen you for a while.
A magicians cane for fast extension, with a slinky on the outside to hold the LEDs. Wrapped in some sort of translucent/stretchy fabric
Ok
Do you think using a bright EL Wire as the retracting string would give a good glow?
Sure
You should definitely do work on the millennium falcon that would be so cool 👍

@@lipsticktattoos looks like we will have to do this.
Hello, I need some help. I want such six lightsaber attached to a central ring at equal distances (think hexagon inscribed in a circle at those points). The thing is, I want all the lightsaber to retract or open at the same time. Any suggestions to achieve that? Your help would be valuable.
I don’t want to create a lightsaber. Basically, I want telescoping antenna type tubes that is attached to a central ring and open and close at the same time. So, is there any way this mechanism can work for that?
If the ring is spinning, all would extend at the same time through the principles of centrifugal force.
Another thing u can consider is adding a butterpaper or something around the led
That's a reasonable idea.
what about using that same design, but using an extendable baton from a magic kit? Joel Creates and Cole Failing used the collapsable staff and I really like how they looked. I've been trying to find a collapsable staff with is clear plastic however I cannot locate one.
I remember seeing it done. The problem is, it can't retract. Also, from personal experience, a good way to get hurt. They use a coiled method. His clear version still is using that coil method. The retractile part is hard. I find they are hard to recoil even by hand.
Yeah, I agree after looking more into it. @@YourGeekFix
Where did you get the clear blade from?
Menards
I'm having trouble with the telescopic part. When the tube goes down, there isn't enough clearance for the fishing line until about halfway down. It get stuck. Any suggestions?
I'm trying to picture what area you are referring to. The fishing line should have no problems with clearance.
@@YourGeekFix When the blade is pushed down, the fishing line is squished between the two segments. There isn't enough clearance between my blade's segments for the fishing line to fit. I bought a blade specifically for this. It is a translucent white telescopic blade. Hope this helps.
@@Obsidianxenon it could be the blade. The blades I've used have worked. However, they were all tapered.
@@YourGeekFix Yeah I think that's the case. I've scrapped the fishing line. I'm gonna rig an air pressure system to extend the blade. Then there'll just be one fishing line to retract. Fingers crossed. Cheers mate.
@@ObsidianxenonOne of our old versions used a co2 cartridge. It essentially blew the top off.
How about C0² (bike inflating capsule) for lightsaber blade extension with air-thighning lips at each segments base.
With a micro 3 way valve for ext.(push out)/retr.(vacuum device)
Go for it. The contest ends Nov 1st.
just can share hypothetical schematic so someone could elaborate to real thing

Can we buy these retractable Sabers and i mean the good ones nit the cheap but extremely expensive Disney ones 😂. I can't wait till we get to a point where retractable Sabers become relevant ❤.
Soon.
we just want to see more about your retractable/duelable lightsaber.
I will be adding files to the description. I am in Puerto Rico, so will have to wait.
This is just awesome. I'm a CPE student, just finished an embedded systems course and I thought I'd like to try and make an extendable lightsaber à la a pike-saber with neopixel components. Figured I'd look around and see if anyone has made anything along these lines and I find your video. Perfect timing! I think I will borrow your spool / wench idea since it works so well! Looks like you 3D printed that part, did you design that one yourself?
Sounds awesome! I designed the geers myself, but I am making a newer model that uses a nontorsion function. I'll post models soon.
How about the old car power antennas???
Upper downy?
@@YourGeekFix I've been thinking of ways to incorporate light saber tech into a proton pack wand. Would like to get the "sine wave" curve...~~~ instead of a straight blade. But sound and motion reactive. Ever thought of that for your pack???
@@lewiscausey687 that would be cool Adam Savage made a version that was different and interesting.
I heard that Disney was being sour and sent you a cease and desist for this vid. Sorry about that.
They sent it on my first video.
This is great! We're soo close to having a fully realistic lightsaber prop.
Adding a soundboard would be no problem its just a bit expensive. For lighting it idk if its possible but couldn't you get neopixel rings for each section that comes out? For the initial ignition (getting the sections to come out) would pressurised air be an option, like a piston mechanic?
Just some thoughts, well done!
Could. Pressure requires space that equals distance to create the pressure. The first version I made had sound and sensors from the same we took apart.
Soooo when can I buy one? 😁😁
Lol

OK JUST ANSWER THIS: YOU DECIDED TO TEAR UP A STAR WARS DARTH VADER LIGHTSABER FORGE LIGHTSABER???????? WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU???????
It comes in parts. Nothing to tear apart.
The force is strong in you, never put it aside and re do this project 😊in 2022 I tried this project too but the force went somewhere else, I mean the passion for the project. I would love to have an R2D2 boom box and light sabers on the wall. 092223
