Fixing the Fallout Pip-boy 3000

- While the Fallout 4 Pip-boy Edition made a great collectible and was a fun way to interact with the game, it had several limitations. Unless you had the right sized phone, it didn’t fill the screen. The buttons were prone to breaking, only two lights lit up, and once the phone was inside, there was no way to push the power or home buttons. In this episode, we paint and modify the model to light up fully and have working buttons. We also add rechargeable batteries and modify the stand to charge the Pip-boy. Not shown in the video, I added a needle from a watch to the Geiger counter.

You definitely can. Arduino has instructions for a 3000 that includes all the parts to buy and all the work made easy.

I might recommend taking the battery out of the phone so that the battery doesn’t explode inside of your pit boy
The benefit of that phone is the impedance monitor.

I think this pip boy was perfectly made. This is a limited release niche product. Those are super expensive in production. Having it fit your smartphone and being able to make the functionalities through software (which they ofc specialize in) is genius. Probably wiped more than half the cost of the thing.
Of course it would he great to have a fully functional thing, but people need to realize that consoles are sold at or under the cost of production, while benefitting from mature supply chains and huge production numbers. A pip boy with functional buttons and inbuilt screen and computer, would have cost more that a PS5.

Pip-Boy 3000 is the one in fallout 3 and new Vegas that is the pipboy 3000 mk VI
Mk iv. The one un fallout 3 was technically the mk III. New vegas had Pip-Boy 3000 v3 Pimp-Boy 3 Billion had no mk or v. I was the one who named the new 3000 MK V.

Wait, so it had a working light that just wasn't wired to anything?
No. It had two lights, one at top and one on the front, but not the Geiger counter or radio. So, I rewired it to light all four. Also, they were powered by a single watch battery. I wanted something I could leave on.

That was already done. They hated making it and when it released only a few phones still fit. I had to use the Samsung j3 for mine. This pipboy couldn't fit an iPhone mini.

Hey guys, so I got myself the deluxe pip-boy, and ahh, it won't turn on, I've had it sitting on the doc for over an hour, and it won't power up, has there ever been a solution to fix this issue on them, you're the obi won here, and well, help me obi win kenobi, I need your help.
No fix really. I've had offers from people to send me theirs. However, we have a member of our community who feels it has something to do with the chip overheating. They were looking into soldering a new one.

No current phones fit. The Samsung j3 perfectly fits.
