6:15 - you know why. They were using Intel's architecture and designs. They opted for higher performance versus extraneous ports. With the advent of their own silicon, they could do whatever they wanted in the VLSI.
Exactly my thought, and this is exactly what they’re setting up for the future. It’s possible they we’re planning To integrate Face ID with this new MacBook release, but with current issues, not enough time or resources to make it happen.
Thought the exact same thing, since they seem to struggle with software this year (universal control delayed, shareplay delayed etc) I think they just wanted to introduce this design now and then in a year or two solve the software involving FaceID on macOS

I’m glad that they stopped aiming for the “thinnest” possible build. That’s why they were able to bring back the additional ports. Also, I’m notch bothered by the notch at all.
I don’t really think anyone is bothered by the notch at all, more so that it exists at all in the first place. The iPhone notch isn’t ideal but there’s a bunch of tech up there. These new macs have literally just the webcam and a daylight sensor and the notch is massive
@@tomxaak for displays we definitely have not switched. A large amount of high end displays use hdmi 2.1. And even if you happened to have all usb c monitors, I’m sure you’d still run into situations where you’d be out of your house and want to use a hdmi display

@@silotx they removed the ports because they thought that the world was ready for usb-c but it wasn’t. People complained so they changed it back. If anything, the fact that they listened is very impressive as most companies wouldn’t
One note on the notch: If you completely fill the notch area with black pixels, it's exactly a 16:10 display. The notch is exactly 74 pixels tall on both display sizes, which gives a precise 16:10 display if you remove those from the vertical pixel resolution. I suspect this is done so that any full screen application that isn't "notch aware" will just fill in the notch area with black pixels.

Hey Marques. Thanks for the video, but look at 7:53: Windows Hello does NOT just uses a webcam. Windows Hello uses a least an IR scanner like FaceID does or uses retina scanners (slow, needs space and not widespread - but there, for example Logitech Brio). Please correct it, because it's basically not true.

6:15 - you know why. They were using Intel's architecture and designs. They opted for higher performance versus extraneous ports. With the advent of their own silicon, they could do whatever they wanted in the VLSI.
Hot take: the notch is that size to get everyone used to it so we don’t go through another change when/if faceid is added.
Exactly what I was thinking
So are they going to bring out a pro display xdr with a matching notch?

I’m glad that they stopped aiming for the “thinnest” possible build. That’s why they were able to bring back the additional ports. Also, I’m notch bothered by the notch at all.
There are a lot of programs that I use that have a search bar that would be obscured by the notch.
Do you really have HDMI devices? The world switched to USB-C already..
