I’ve been doing with this problem for two years now same exact suv and have spent $5500 plus with two different mechanics it stops for a few months and starts again… i wish i saw you video in 2020 thanks 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
You are also able to replace just the throttle position sensor, rather than the entire throttle body. You used to not be able to purchase them separately, but we’ve been able to for a while now. Disconnecting the battery would have cleared your codes.
@@rogerrambit4447 yeah…and I also mention replacing the throttle position sensor…on a video showing how to replace the throttle body. I don’t think anyone here is assuming, or suggesting, that simply wiping the codes is going to fix the problem. The point you’re trying make is completely irrelevant.

Thank you for this video. As a female I find we get taken advantage of when it comes to getting our vehicles fixed. You made it look so easy to fix I'm definitely going to attempt to do it myself. Thank you so so much!
Yep, when you picked that old o-ring out for TB, you took lil screwdriver and used ole towel to get that clean....thats when I said "I'm probably gonna watch more of this guy's vids".
All right my friends... I must say this video was spot on. Engine power is reduced came on over Christmas, and then it went out. Came back on again within 2 weeks. Out with the old and in with the new take me about a little over half an hour. Simple and quick and fun to do ‼️💯😁👍🏻
@@TerenceDIY Thank you very much Mr Terrence!. P.S. I did not have to remove the top part of the air filter tube, as I simply pushed it off to the passenger side.
Had this truck for 15 years if this ever happens to some one just pull to the side turn off. Wait 30 secs hold gas pedal as you turn on and let go as soon as engine turns. When it turn on. Turn it off again. And finally turn it on again normally Should be fine for a few days or years.
I made the mistake of leaving my car with a dealership to come back for it later. And they deliberately caused this problem just so I can be a reoccurring customer. I gave them a one star review but thank you for this video.
Thanks for showing the process of the throttle body replacement. I am having this issue with my 2011 Avalanche with all those lights popping on and motor going into reduced power mode. I looked at my throttle body and it appears pretty clean but I did however order an AC Delco throttle position sensor with plans to replace in next day or so. Really hoping this resolves my issue, it is very frustrating when pulling a car trailer and the truck can basically only idle off to the side of the road.
@@TerenceDIY Well, after checking a couple of the grounds that everyone mentions and the TPS being replaced I think it is resolved. Been driving for 4 days now and no "reduced engine power". The little traction triangle light popped on for a quick second when I was getting on the x-way one time in those 4 days but nothing else. Time will tell as always, appreciate the tips from your video.
@@kgarner3655 Yeah, mine has been running pretty good since the throttle body cleaning and sensor replacement. The little traction triangle light popped on for a quick minute a few times but no engine power reduced. When the traction light pops on it is under a slight load when getting on the x-way so it is not losing traction, hope to figure that out next lol. For reference, I have put about 700 miles on the truck since the throttle body fix.
My truck ran this code and i bought the throttle position sensor and changed it myself. It fixed it! The hardest part was those metal clips they were fucking my fingers up lol but other than that simple
March 24, 2024 @ 1440 hours, this video was RIGHT ON!! We went to O'Reily's and here's their optoins in Texas: $250 for brand new with lifetime warranty; $216 Brand new but with 1-year warranty; or $185 remanufactured with 1-year warranty. We opted for a brand new Hitachi with the 1-year warranty, it's a 2007 Silverado 5.3 and it worked perfectly finally. Before it would start & run, at other times occasionally or rarely it would turn on but it would sound like it wasn't running right, all of those indicator lights would trip, Stabilitrak, Low Power mode and I forget the other thing & we managed to plug the computer in, code was P2135. We left the original greenish seal there, we just cleaned it and the little groove or space & it fired up like a champ. Before it would start but no matter how much you depressed the accelerator it wouldn't respond in the slightest, now you press it and she ROARS LIKE A LION AGAIN!! Thank you Terence The DIY'er.
I had no issues for almost a year after cleaning and replacing the main engine ground wire, then the other day after bumps and a really hard breaking due to a traffice issue it happened 3 times in a row. Each time minutes apart. All i did was stop and reatart the car. Finally got home it ran fine after each restart but happened 3 times back to back. Now i checked the battery ground and firewall ground and just pushed on the throttle Body connection to set it. No issues for several days. This is just weird...
Thx bro! Took your advice for my 07 Suburban LTZ and even cleaned it to buy some time for $$ .My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ looked out for me and I found a new Hitachi throttle body off a 08GMC YUKON at my job (Scrap auto purchase and processing) Yukon's Suburbans Tahoe's RARELY AND I MEAN EXTRA RARELY come in for scrap, when they do it's a shell.... So anyway GOD is good just found it yesterday Yukon was stolen then scrapped, old TB was in a new TB box in back so I removed it from the engine and problem solved! Thx 💯💯💯💯💯
I just experienced this in the morning today smh though my trans was going outta on my 07 avalanche had the truck 2022, I kinda figured it was that throttle position sensor thanks for the video👍🏽✊🏽

If you replaced the entire throttle body, did you check that harness? There was a bulletin released by GM some years ago that stated there was an issue with the hearness that connects to the throttle body.
As long as you have the battery disconnected during the job, you should be fine. I have only had a couple of cases out of MANY jobs that required a relearn. Thank you SOOO much for watching.
Hey Terrence i have the exact same issue of the “Engine power reduced” and the lights popping up on my 2009 silverado. Is this what i need to do to fix it??? New Subscriber btw
It can be many things. If you can tell me what code is popping up I can guide you to a possible fix. I know these vehicles and engines well. I have repair software for them and EVERY repair manual. Lol
Dude, I had to do this to my '12 Yukon 5.3l about a week ago (it's Dec. 2023 now) and it ran horribly after installing the new trhrottle body. The manual relearn didn't work, it kept wanting to idle at 3k RPM, would surge while driving, etc. Had to take it to a shop to force the relearn as my code scanner doesn't have relearn service capability (should have just bought one that did with what the shop charged me to do it). Then it was still running lean, wouldn't idle properly (though it at least wasn't up at 3k RPM anymore). I had to replace the MAF sensor, and it was fine after that (mostly lol). What a pain in the a$$. Appreciate the video. New sub!
Thank you for subscribing. I hate you had to go through all of that. I wish I were there to help. We probably would have gotten it fixed pretty quickly and saved you some money.
Hey, I feel your pain through your comments. That's why even though I love the body style of those trucks, 07 -14. I stay with the GM800 Generation of Chevy/Gmc trucks. I have a few of them, with well over 200,000 miles and never have any of the problems that the 07 and up have. I know alotofpeoplethat have that Generationoftrucksandhave nightmare problems from electrical to the lifters due to the active fuel management/ displacement on demand system. $$$$$$$. Again, I feel your pain.
Tyvm Terrance 🙏.. My Suburban started something similar this morning. Not the exact same 🎉. Mine says something similar to diminished engine .... .... It ran rough and drove slowly. My son pulled off and shut it off then restarted then it improved. Got to O'Reillys auto parts. They came out and tested the truck, and code spit out this sensor. I have a 2003 Suburban, but in general, it's the same as you know. What sucks is.... I'm in California, and what is on its way? And ironically, while typing this, it started to rain. Lol.. Luckily, I'm in the zone that won't get the worst of it. If it continues its track, we will only get the tropical storm part. If you know California... we are above Los Angeles, between LA and Santa Barbara. Anyhow, he just ordered the part and will take a few hours to get it. He just started it, and it's now acting normal. Check engine light is off now.
You're very welcome. I am glad my video helped you guys. I am somewhat familiar with California as I had family that stayed in Fresno. Be safe out there and thanks for watching.
@TerenceDIY Where are you? Being a military, we have lived coast to coast. I definitely prefer California. Less anxiety and such where we are. (Area). Not like when we lived in Augusta, Ga and Woodbridge, Va near DC.
@TerenceDIY As long as you're not in the inner city such as LA to San Bernardino area, it's way better. When you hear about gangs, race issues... then avoid that area. My 2nd husband was Korean mix and personally growing up with someone like the ex-president.. lol .and a household of brothers .. My dad was a Hells Angel from the 50s. He stopped talking to me when he met my first cpl bfs. Lol. I heard every slang word in the book. The one thing i liked about being military was that was sooo rare to see, especially in the 80s to 2005. Base Living helped protect my son from that. Well, he's over 35 now.. I don't need to worry about that now. He's nothing like my family and will never be. One thing i did learn growing up was to be self-reliant. I watched my mom and helped work on a stock car, then restorations. Not for work but for myself but helped others to learn. Though i went to cosmetology school and later after DC, USO, and such.. i hopped into college. But being a spouse, i had to be flexible in work. My automotive work helped. I worked dealer auctions, wholesale and retail, parts, lot man. Parts man, and more. But because i learn as I went along, I taught my son. He actually quit college for automotive technology. But didn't get work in that field. Long story there.. but in short, we

You cannot adjust the idle. Please check for a vacuum leak to see if all the hoses, etc.. are connected. That's what will cause that high idle. Are you getting any codes?
I have a 2013 gmc sierra and it happened to me last night out of the blue my truck didn't have any other issues before then , I ended up driving it home doing about 30mph 'which was about 50 mins away usually ' so is that the only way to fix that problem.

A different video same issue was fixed by a loose ground wire between engine and firewall messing with the fuel pump when you hit a bump. So a 2nd real life easier fix that may also be the problem. 🙏
I have replaced the throttle body and sensor, now it comes on when I hit a bump. Charles can you share the link to thay video ? I think I have the same problem
I'm impressed with your car knowledge! Thank you for being willing to help us out. And you almost always reply with an answer-- not many take the time to do that! We have an 04 Chevy Tahoe that does the reduced engine power code. Mostly it's when you are first starting the car, but now it's happening just driving down the road. Husband did something with grounding a wire, and it never did it then for about a month. Back to doing it again. You and others mentioned something with the ? ?"electrical harness"?. Does this sound like a possibility here? And if so do you know how much something like that would cost to repair?
Yep, Chevy released a bulletin back in the day about the harness having issues. I'm not sure how much a repair shop would charge you guys. Tell your husband to check the harness that the throttle body plug is connected to and follow it back while looking for any frayed or damaged wires. I wish I were there to fix it for you guys.
yes it does matter ! disconnect the negative 1st than the positive , and reconnect in reverse order , i seen a person do it out of order and when reconnected , the battery blew up , no joke , wear eye protection too , just sayin , safety 1st .
You are correct. I should have put emphasis on it. If you watch any of my videos I cannot stress enough the importance of safety. Thanks for watching and sharing that info.
Gotta be bullshit been a mechanic for years never followed that specific way just pull one off then the other doesn’t matter which one I’m pretty sure I’ve always pulled the negative first
had the same issue on my 2010 Chevy Avalanche LTZ. lost of power and press on gas pedal and know acceleration. Don't have a code reader. Do. you think i should just place a new throttle body
It could be quite a few things. I would recommend getting the codes read. The code P2135 correlates to the throttle body in this situation. Absolutely fabulous video Terence, Thank-You for posting this. My Chevy Colorado has been doing the same thing in the last few days. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
I have a broken box excuse my non mechanic lingo, but where the hose goes from the box Its broken and doesn't seal correctly. Im looking for the part now. Im assuming the same shyt job mechanic who glued and broke a bolt inlet on the timing chain and oil pressure pump cover did the same work here.
Hi, can you tell me what section of the video (minute mark) of what hose / box you referring to then I can tell you exactly the part you need. I can also probably get you a great deal on it. Thanks,

Nope, I did not have to relearn it. A few commented saying they had to but not in my case. I removed the battery cable during the removal and installation to trick the system. It works almost all the time for me. Thanks for watching.
I’ve been having this reduced engine power problem on my 2006 Chevy Silverado and I’ve replaced the whole throttle body like 3 times and one time just the throttle position sensor it’s self and it does work for a good while but after a couple months the reduced engine power comes back

I’m currently having the same problems with my 07 Yukon Denali 6.2. Replaced throttle but don’t think was an OEM replacement bought it from Oreilly’s. I’ve had different people give me different ideas on what they think the problem is. I’m kinda in a loop!
It's either the throttle body or the wire harness the plug from the throttle body comes out of. You'll need to inspect it for frayed wires. I would also try an OEM used throttle body. They are inexpensive on eBay.
I have a question for you about my 2003 chevy suburban. I know spark plugs are one of the most simply stupidest things to replace however my truck has a totally different set up and unsure how to go about replacing them. It's like 3 nuts to a plate to remove a spark plug, as if they have a computer to each one.
You have to be talking about the ignition coil? You should watch my tune-up video. It shows everything in great detail. It will help you significantly.

Hey Terrence video very helpful I have a quick question the hose you disconnected where you said to do it at an angle what is that hose called.mine is broke
Hi I know this was a year ago but I was just wondering how has it been doing since you changed the throttle body any more problems with reduce engine power?
Hey Terence, I have a 2007 Suburban 5.3 flex fuel, 167k. This reduced pwr light, check eng light, stabilitrak lt and traction control lt all came on tonight first time. Note that it's -14 degrees in Denver now and I was in 4wd high and slipping a little. Since it would idle but had no power, I was able to pull off the road. I turned the engine off waited a minute and it restarted with no issue but the logged check engine lt. Made it home ok. Your thoughts on whether this incident might be cold related? Thanks
You absolutely could have gotten a false reading due to the circumstances. I've had multiple false readings where as after waiting for a while the vehicle was perfect with no further issues. However, pay close attention to it. If it happens again. there's definitely a problem even if it fixes itself after a restart. Your accelerator pedal sensor may be going bad. I've dealt with a few of them and you are having similar signs to one possibly being faulty. However, you can clean the throttle body (throttle body cleaner) in which should improve your performance and MPG.
You can clean it however, I would just replace it. I wish you would have messaged me before changing the throttle body. That is definitely not your issue. Let me look into this because this seems like a possible electrical issue (harness).
I have a 2008 chevy Silverado ive spent crazy money replacing everything just did the tps yesterday and still same code p0641 and it does the engine red power and stabilitrack goes off i am lost
I've dealt with that code a few times on similar vehicles. Unfortunately, it was the PCM 9 out of 10 times that fixed the problem. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I'm having the stabiltrak problem now Im having to reset some codes and drive again but it will drive like normal until another couples days then stabiltrak will come back on and it will not let me accelerate so I have to delete codes and drive again I want to get this fixed thanks for the help
@TerenceDIY I'm getting the system 2 bank 2 I believe for the it says 1 02 sensor is no good and needs replaced would that cause my Escalade to do that and stabilize trak to come on and have no acceleration I have to turn the vehicle off and put the obII reader on and clear codes then I'll can drive some more and accelerate and all it's starting to get annoying just for the fact it's been cold and having to put the obII READER when it stops moving forward and clear the obII and it's back to normal but sometimes it sounds like its popping like it backfires or something and I put premium in it I've added 1 can of sea foam. And done the rest gas bit I so
Wow so now im getting reduced engine power. Well i was a mile away from home thank god but it just all of sudden popped on now i did have a hard break on the highway once today so not sure if that cause it or not -_-
The pedal sensor can cause this issue as well however, the P2135 mainly asscociates with the throttle body or the harness. You should inspect your harness connector as well. I ordered the throttal body i am facing the same code i will fixing it in 2 days but thankyou u mentioned to disconnect the battery because i saw one video the guy didnt mentioned to disconnect the battery i have just one question i also see traction control sign is it link with other problm because when i scan the code its only showed me p2135 code thankyou
Yes, the traction control light correlates (links) to the problem. Disconnect the battery before you start the job. Once you replace the throttle body and install everything back. Reconnect the battery and you should be fine. Thanks for watching.

Thx for this video! Do you have any DIYS for a Chevy Sonic 2014 that lost communication with TCM after getting a jump? The slippery car light is also illuminated.
Unfortunately, I don't have any videos for that issue however, I am pretty familiar with your car. How is the car currently running? I wish I were there to diagnose the car, I could probably find the issue in a matter of minutes.
@@TerenceDIY wow I wish you were here too! Let a mechanic diagnose with the OBD and scan tool but he said info is coming in the system but not coming out. And referred me to a transmission shop to install a new TCM. I called the shop, they say it’s very rare for that module to have a need to be replaced. But to diagnose, that’s another fee. When I get to 40 MPH, car kicks back down to 38. It won’t go over 40. My reverse lights won’t light when in gear also I had a digital indicators on the dash for what gear I’m in and that won’t illuminate anymore. So can see when in drive park neutral ect. Car locks were jumping by themselves but that stopped. This seemed to happen after we got a jump on the battery. So far we cleaned the throttle body, Mass airflow sensor, checked for loose harnesses (that we could see), checked fuses in engine bay (not the relays tho). Prayed over the car, pleaded he blood of Jesus Christ out blessed oil on the car lol! You name it! I do think that J1 is missing a pin though. But I’m not sure if that pin is supposed to be missing or not. Maybe I could put a paper clip in it to conduct electricity. But don’t know the wiring. Only code is U0101 with the slippery car symbol.
If I were there, I guarantee I would know exactly what the issue is. Cleaning the throttle body and any other component was not going to solve your problem. I have a couple of questions for you... 1. Why did you jump the vehicle? Obviously the battery was low, but what caused it (left lights on, radio playing, etc...) Your issue may be a simple one I just need more info.

My truck has the same issue mostly when it rains. I’ve changed out both the throttle and pedal. I always get the same p2135 code. What else could it be I’ve been chasing it for like a year now.
@ yeah I have I tried an aftermarket hitachi throttle first then a oem throttle and pedal and it was fine for like a while now it’s acting up again. I just know it does more when it’s raining like it picks up moisture and it causes to it act up could it be a ground wire? Or PCM issue?
@@TerenceDIY appreciate the help yeah hopefully it’s a ground wire. I also noticed I know when it’s going to act up because right before I turn the truck on I just turn the ignition switch on and I hear the throttle making rapid clicking noises

Having the reduced engine power on a 2007 Escalade esv. The temporary fix for me has been taking the positive terminal off battery and then putting it back. If it’s the throttle body, why would resetting the battery work? 🤷🏾♂️🤬GM
Are you getting the code P2135? That code correlates to the throttle body. The reduced engine power correlates with many different codes. What code or codes are you getting? Thanks,

Okay. What code is coming up?

Awesome!
That's terrible. Thank you VERY much for watching.
Let me know if this fixes your issue Mike. Thanks for watching.
That's great Mike! Keep me posted if anything changes. Once again, thanks for watching.
@@mikebas7325hey Mike is it still running good?
That's great! I am glad you got it fixed. Thank you so much for watching.

My 04 avalanche did that replaced throttle body no go then replaced harness to tb and place old tb back worked fine😅
@TerenceDIY We are in Ventura near the Epicenter of earthquakes today..
@TerenceDIY Where are you? Being a military, we have lived coast to coast. I definitely prefer California. Less anxiety and such where we are. (Area). Not like when we lived in Augusta, Ga and Woodbridge, Va near DC.
Chicago, Illinois. I can imagine California being ideal for just about anyone! Lol. I would love to get me a place there.

Was their a relearning process for the throttle body ?
Nope, not in my case. However, I have had a few commenters say they had to do a relearn. Thanks for watching!
Hello, did you say the engine in this Suburban is a 6.2?
It's a 6.0.
Oh,ok. Did it come from the factory like that, or was it or was it swapped? The reason why I ask is because I never knew that Suburbans came with anything other than the 5.3. Thanks!
Yep, factory 6.0. They weren't common, but a great option. Thanks for watching.
Hey, LQ4 or LQ9?
LQ9. Thanks for watching.
Do you need to reprogram the throttle body once replaced? That’s what I was told. Hope not though lol 2010 Chevy Tahoe
No. As long as you disconnected the battery for a while then it should be fine. I've done many with no programming and they were perfect. Thanks for watching.

All right my friend Terrence.... At startup, my truck idols at 3500 RPMs. How do I adjust and lower the idle? 🤔
You cannot adjust the idle. Please check for a vacuum leak to see if all the hoses, etc.. are connected. That's what will cause that high idle. Are you getting any codes?
@@TerenceDIYI do not have a code reading machine or scanner
@@TerenceDIY the only hose I took off was the one that was on the side where you pull it out at an angle and I put it back in at an angle
Check to see if the throttle body seated correctly. Something is sucking in air.
I have a 2013 gmc sierra and it happened to me last night out of the blue my truck didn't have any other issues before then , I ended up driving it home doing about 30mph 'which was about 50 mins away usually ' so is that the only way to fix that problem.
Hi,
It is the most common however, there could be other issues. Do you know what code it is throwing? If it is the P2135 It's probably the throttle body. Let me know the code if you can.

@@BecomingBany word on?
Will this work on a 03 Chevy Suburban?
If you are getting that code, it definitely should work. The truck in the video is an 07.

Hey Terrence video very helpful I have a quick question the hose you disconnected where you said to do it at an angle what is that hose called.mine is broke
Hi I know this was a year ago but I was just wondering how has it been doing since you changed the throttle body any more problems with reduce engine power?
Absolutely not. The truck is still running amazing and I've put well over 20k miles on it since this video. Thank you so much for watching.
Here is a link to a new part that's cheap and reliable.

Your accelerator pedal sensor may be going bad. I've dealt with a few of them and you are having similar signs to one possibly being faulty. However, you can clean the throttle body (throttle body cleaner) in which should improve your performance and MPG.

You're very welcome. Thank YOU for watching.
What codes are you getting?
And done the rest gas bit I so
Yes, the O2 sensor will cause it to go into limp mode. That's what your truck is doing when the stabilitrak light comes on.
@@TerenceDIY thanks for the quick reply ok so another question should I buy just any one or the most expensive 02 sensor? Does it matter
Please send me the year or your Escalade and engine.

I am glad to hear you made it home safely. Are you still getting reduced engine power? You can cycle the key and sometimes it will correct itself.
@TerenceDIY so what it was was low coolant! But definitely appreciate the info!
Great! Glad you got it taken care of.
I changed mines in my 09! Single cab v6 but it keeps doin the same u think i should change the pedal?
The pedal sensor can cause this issue as well however, the P2135 mainly asscociates with the throttle body or the harness. You should inspect your harness connector as well. Also, di you replace it with a new one?

@@TerenceDIYNo I haven't. I have a 2010 Chevy Impala with 64k miles. It's had the P2135 code before in the last year but it cleared on it's own. It's happened twice in the last few days. What's your thoughts on getting the part (probably Chinese) for under 100$ or OEM for $250+..
Here are a few links to sellers I have dealt with in the past. They have great products that are inexpensive. Parts for your car links...

What part was that. That you put on. Mine is engine power is reduced idk what going on idk nothing about vehicles
Here is a link to the part (below). However, reduced engine power can be quite a few things. You need to get the codes read.
