I have used lash serums for years. Starting out I tried the cheapest ones and moved up through the price tags, looking for better results. The more money I paid, the better my lashes got. Eventually, I had the longest, strongest, thickest lashes I’ve ever had. I was delighted with the results!! I noticed my eyes becoming a bit more bloodshot than normal - but on bad days I just used some eye drops! I saw the skin around my eyes turning pinky/red, but I just covered that with concealer. Nothing was going to stop me from having these lovely lashes!! Over the years this got more & more noticeable. To the point where people would comment about how sore my eyes looked, but I just made excuses and continued. Then, the eye watering started. And it didn’t stop. My eyes were red, watering all day like I was crying, so I went to the chemist and got some treatment. No difference. My eyes were PAINFUL. I could no longer wear any makeup and the constant tearing had put sores round the edges of my eyes. I was thinking up excuses not to go into work... One day, when finally I could take no more of this torture, I took a x20 mag mirror and looked at my eyes. Then i saw them. I had grown like a short, sharp, stubby second row of lashes on the inside of my eyelids that were rubbing on the surface of my eyes, day & night. Scratching & scraping at my eyeballs with every blink. I was HORRIFIED!! I had no option, I tweezed them all out there and then!!! I stopped using my serum. My eyes are no longer bloodshot, watering, sore or red-rimmed. My eyes have recovered with no real lasting damage, thankfully. I knew all along that the serum was the cause of my problem, but I had no idea WHAT the problem was!!!!!! I was addicted I suppose.
Even though Dr Dray doesn’t support using castor oil on lashes for growth, I still do it lol. I honestly do feel like it makes somewhat of a difference. If you look up Jennifer Meyer here on UA-cam she has several videos about using castor oil on her lashes for years. Of course I don’t know how long they were originally, but they almost look like false eyelashes now.
Dr Dray, thanks for changing my skin drastically! - i now wash my face only once a day, which makes me save time & money. - thanks to you I dont use the sponge with my PCA pigment bar. Which makes it last even longer. - i cut at least 4 steps in my routine. Again, time and money! - i stopped using products with fragrance and my eyes are not swollen all the time anymore. - i doubled the amount of sunscreen and noticed a big difference in hyper pigmentation No crazy break outs anymore My skin looks super clear, which leads me to stop using foundation everyday. Again, time and money!!! Thanks!
@@carolinasangiovanni8559 thanks for sharing!! Any recommendations for sunscreen you like? I'm finding my skin to have cleared as well by minimizing products and cutting out many things that irritated me.
I actually suffered loads of eyelash LOSS using castor oil. Was using sunflower oil as an eye makeup remover and realised my eyelashes were crazy long after years of pulling them out (trich). Only thing that has ever worked and discovered completely by accident :D
I’ve never clicked a notification so quickly, nor been so heartbroken. 😭 GrandeLash has given me the lashes of my dreams. 💯 %. But I have been wondering why my eyelids and entire eye area has been so dark. I already have dark circles underneath, I don’t need the entire socket going dark. Thanks for doing what you do! Even when you’re crushing our dreams and breaking our hearts. 💔😭
Admin User I was using it PM, upper lids only. I may have been using too much; over the past week I’ve taken care to wipe the excess from the applicator back onto the rim of the tube (if that makes sense) instead of just glooping it on and the darkness on my lids seems to be getting better. Tbh, Dr. Dray scared me. Lol. I love my results but I don’t want dark, sunken eyes. I’m using GrandeLash + GrandeBrow to help replace hair I’ve lost to an autoimmune disease. But what good will it do to have luscious brows & lashes if my eyes become all sunken and ghastly?😂😭😂😭
I’ve used it too and noticed darkening around my lash line that almost looked bruised when I only used it about 2 months. I used it AM/PM everyday. I agree it works well but definitely not necessary considering the risk.
I started worrying about using lash serum too. I switched to popping on 2-3 individual little lash fans. It’s really pretty, gives that effect, and I feel safer. Maybe a new dream?😊
Amy Cortez I tried grande lash for a few days and after the third day my eyelids got so dark!!! I was like wth! I realized it must be from the serum and sure enough! Once I stopped using it my eyes went back to normal in a few days. I know if you use too much it can cause the darkness....so maybe try every other night and just a little bit to avoid the darkness. I just stopped using it and started using false lashes lol
I’m 61 and have been using Grande Lash for 3 years. I have had NO PROBLEMS and for the first time have LONG, THICK lashes. I love it and find it necessary to use only once a week now to maintain my LASHES 🤗
@@Ohkeh640 I’d be careful of people that would keep the money instead of sending it out btw! If u have some close online friends that’s are trustworthy I’d go to them
Exactly! Only very very lightly dab on bottom of the upper lid lash, and obviously be super careful not to get it into the eye. No need to put on bottom lash. The bottom Lash will get treated from product on the upper li led when you sleep. Also, I’ve found I only need it twice a week but I bet once a week works also. (I’ve used revitalsh. Grandelash and latisse. I prefer Latisse because of the higher quality control and pharmaceutical testing, and it doesn’t have unnecessary ingredients that the knockoffs have, but it’s pricier and you have to get it from a doctor/medical office.
Dr Dray, could you please do a video on nail ridges, weak nails, peeling, etc? I see many advertisements on nail strengthening, fungus, etc. Wonder if this is all “snake oil” too like the lash serums. THANKS for all you do for us!
yes! I’d love to see a video on this as well! I have tried everything to get my nails to stop peeling & being weak but nothing has worked -no supplement & no nail treatment. My hair is great-thick, normal, grows fast, etc-but my nails just tear & rip like paper ☹️
I have been using eyelash serum for years with no problems, but after watching this video I think I am going to stop now that I am really informed about the side effects. That’s why I watch! Thanks 🙏🏻
Please never stop making videos!! They are so informative and save me a lot of money. Also, due to your tips and product recommendations my face, skin and overall health has been improving. I feel more confident and happier. Thank you so much for that!!
No problems with Latisse. I have been using it for several years; it provides major lengthening, to the point where I have to trim one lash (in the middle) which gets super long. With Latisse, you only need it once a week to maintain the original eyelash growth.
I wish I knew this 2 years ago!!! I tried the Rodan & Fields Lash Boost and it did work, it made me eyelashes grow like crazy. However, now I have dry eye syndrome! It turns out that was a side effect and people are suing. I wish I would have known. Thank you for doing this Dr. Dray! Lash serum isn’t worth it. I want my old eye balls back!
As someone who suffers from anxiety which makes me pick at my eyelashes and often rip them out, products like these have quite literally saved my eyes and eyelashes. While the risks mentioned in this video are possible, I have personally never experienced any of them. I have used revitalash for nearly 2 years now and it has strengthened my eyelashes immensely, helped them grow back quicker, and the added length was truly just a bonus. Several of my friends noticed how much it was helping me and have started using other products with great success and no side effects. It’s so important to consult with your doctors first when considering anything that is claiming to alter anything about your body but there are risks associated with everything. If you notice any of these changes or concerns just stop using immediately! Other than that if you’re curious about them I would recommend trying. Loved this video though to help inform people of what to look out for!
Girl believe me my skin is damaged because of this. Don’t do it. I am a makeup artist and I can’t wear any makeup ever again, for over a year now. I’ve got contact dermatitis that went over to rosacea. Don’t do it…
girl I am literally in the same boat, I have undiagnosed trichotillomania and I pull my eyelashes. It’s so infrequent so some months my lashes are long and then sometimes i have patches that are blank! It’s so frustrating, but I am not using any lash serums, just some light castor oil!
I’ve used Latisse for 3 years. It is prescribed by my MD. Admittedly it’s a time & financial commitment to be sure. I had some initial irritation which resolved & as long as I am very careful with application this is no longer an issue. Otherwise I’ve not had any other side effects personally except nice long lashes where I used to have stubs. I acknowledge, watch for and accept the risks.
I’m so glad I saw this. I actually got Grandelash and have seen my eyelashes growing but I do have some of these side affects. I care more about my health than how long my eyelashes are I will be throwing it out. Thank you for the video
I use Neulash and other than occasional irritation when I started, see no adverse reactions. My 63 year old lashes are long & curled now.... the serum seems to curl them as well. My previous lashes would best be described as sparse, with bald patches.
The only side effect I’ve had from RevitaLASH is thicker and much much longer eyelashes! I've been using it for 5mnths and it's amazing. I got my lashes back!!
It’s not a fact. It feels like that because your lashes go back to normal. I used rodan and fields years ago and all that happened when I stopped was that my lashes went back to normal. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes me tooo. I started two months ago love it and at night I use castor oil. This is good info in case I do see side effects I stop. But so far greattttt
I have been using revitalash and M2 lashes for over 10 years and never had any problems 🙏🧿 I don’t have any hyperpigmentation in my iris either so thank god i am having long full lashes without side effects
I've had great results with Rapid Lash. At one month my lashes were longer. At 6 to 8 weeks I had to trim a few lashes. In 3 months I had long full lashes. Now I use Rapid Lash about twice a week. Thanks
GrandeBROW Brow Enhancing Serum I use this one for over a year and I have no problems and I got my bows the way I love. So I think there is NO problem with brow serum)
After using eye lash serums for a couple years, I had to stop in the beginning of the year. I had a little bit of the "red eyeliner" look every now and then but I felt like it was worth it for the long lashes. My eyes would also get so irritated, they were completely bloodshot with the red rings around my eyes. It would usually go away the next day and it happened a couple times in the winter time. I was in denial that it was from the serums and blamed it on my allergies, dryness of winter, rubbing my eyes etc.... But then I started to get little white bumps on my lash line. Again, I was in denial, thought that bacteria must have gotten into the serum or makeup. So I gave myself a break for a couple weeks, bought a new tube of serum and got new makeup. When I started using the serum again, the little bumps came back. That's when I finally stopped using eyelash serums I should have stopped using eyelash serums a long time ago!
@@heatherpoliticallyincorrec9064 yes, they aren't red anymore and my lashes definitely aren't as long as they use to be when I was using eye lash serums :(
Same here. Red eyelids and styes I was in denial but the worst was two corneal ulcers last year because my eyes were so dry from using revitalash for 7 years.. I use castor oil now and my eyes and eyelids are so much better!
I used grandelash, while my lashes grew, I suffered from hyperpigmentation and red puffy tired eyes. I looked absolutely horrible!! But I thought it was a side effect for that lash serum and I was going to try revitalash. Thanks for saving me $150!
hello! may i ask if the hyperpigmentation around your eyes faded away after you stopped using the lash serum? bc i just stopped using revitalash and OH GOD the hyperpigmentation around my eyes is even more noticeable than my long eyelashes 😭
THIS explains why my doc wouldn’t prescribe Latisse! I have chronic dry eye. Also the eye ointment I’m using at bedtime for dry eye seems to be conditioning my lashes, making them not break. It makes sense as the ointment is basically petroleum and mineral oil. Win-win!
Revitalash advance def gave me dark circles and around my eyelash line was reddish brown, my eyes looked tired people asked me if I haven’t slept well. I stopped using them I just take care of my diet, got an hermes eyelash curler and natural ingredient mascaras.
I use GrandeLash MD and my Asian teeny lashes are finally normal size and you can see them now without mascara. I can't imagine not using it, it's changed my life.
Are you still using it and have you experienced any side effects? I’ve never used it but I just bought a 6 month supply of grande lash for amazons “prime day” today. I’ve been using Monat’s lash serum for 7 years with absolutely no side effects, BUT, because it’s a safer more natural product. the results are very noticeable but I imagine something like grande lash would give me better results so I thought I’d try it. Then I come across THIS video 🤦🏼♀️ lol
I've used FEG lash serum (13$ 3ml) had no side effects. Ingridients: Purified water Sodium chloride Benzalkonium chloride Citric acid Disodium phosphate Cellulose gum
This is 100% real... I have used Grandelash for about 4 years, and the redness around my eyes has gotten so much worse. People have asked me if I am wearing red eye-shadow... That bad....
I used to use the original Revitalash. Worked amazing! Long gorgeous lashes, but also darkened eyelids. Once I tinted my lashes and from that moment on, my lids got so sensitive and irritated and could no longer tolerate the lash serum. I waited over 5 years, used Latisse and my eyes blew up! I can no longer use tint nor grow serum due to extreme sensitivity!
Hi Dr. Dray, I really appreciate you addressing this topic. I started using Babelash serum (nightly) around 4 - 5 months ago and have had great results with no side effects so far. Admittedly, I was a bit nervous about trying this type of product. At 62 my lashes had become pretty sparse and now they have lengthened and thickened so well that when I wear mascara, some friends have asked if they are false. Although I'd hate to lose the benefits of this, I will seriously consider your wise council. Thanks so much!
Ive heard that once you are happy with your results you just just use the serum one a week and that maintains the lashes and you become less susceptible to irritation and such over time 🤷🏽♀️
Lol just wait a couple years and those side effects will hit and you’ll wish you would have thrown it out! I just threw all my grande lash stuff away last week cause after 2 years of use I had to go to the dr over it.. I have not been able to wear any type of Eye make up in two weeks it sucks. Along with the constant eye watering! And eye infection from clogged tear ducts! I’m telling you this shit is no fun when those side effects pop up.... grande lash is amazing yes but the side effects aren’t lol js
Dr Dray has covered lash extensions and lash serums, I hope to see a video on lash lifts/tints someday too! I can’t seem to find any real downsides to them but it’s literally a perm right next to your eyeball.. sus!! But at the same time the results look so nice and I’m so tempted to try it! Please give us the tea Dr Dray! 💕
Yes! I hope she does one on lash lifts since I've been having mine done with "keratin" on them but I dont really see a change when the perm is gone and my lashes actually seem weaker so I stopped. 😔
I do lash lifts and semi permanent lashes in my job. I love the results of both but I can say that I see the adverse effects of lash lifts. Firstly getting it done once in a while is fine they look great. But when I see frequent lash lift clients come in for semi permanent lashes I use magnifying goggles. I can often see under a magnification that these clients have lots of snapped lashes that stop before the lash naturally tapers. I don’t notice this with the semi permanent but I do hear a lot of people say they feel their lashes have thinned not clients but other colleagues who’ve tried them. I personally haven’t noticed this but my lashes aren’t great naturally anyway. Anyway to summarise I personally don’t mind the odd lash lift but I wouldn’t get it done constantly even when leaving the 8-10 week gap you should leave in between x
@@beautybrief114 thank you for this! I was wondering if it would be better to just use an eyelash curler, would it be less harmful than getting it lifted or having falsies put in? Also, I used to get my lashes lifted and the first time was great and I would wait months before having them done again. However, I went in the last time, my lashes seemed "crispy" and a lot fell out and it was curled differently than the first time, and it looked very unflattering. I dont know if the technician left it in too long but after that, I didnt go back.
@@infairvarona so it can over process either because it’s been processed previously or because it’s on too long/ its too strong for your lashes. Unfortunately one of the reasons I don’t like doing lash lifts as a lash tech is cause one persons lashes can be super tolerant and you barely get a lift and another persons can be weaker and over process. For example I’m ginger and redheads tend to have stronger more coarse hairs so mine don’t overprocess and the solution needs to be on longer to get a decent lift, but someone who’s got fine hair could get over processed much quicker & you can’t always tell what clients lashes will do which. I love the results you can get, and I would get it occasionally. And same with brow lamination I was doing that on myself all the time because I love the results and I was definitely shedding hairs faster from it. X
I bought Grande Lash and Grande Brow actually back in July (didn't know about this video at the time). They have made my eyelashes and eyebrows look so much better, but now after watching this video, I am afraid to keep using them. Part of me is disappointed (I hate to give up the prettier lashes and brows...especially wearing little to no makeup during the pandemic), but I do appreciate the honesty of Dr. Dray's videos. I'm glad to know this information before I do further harm. Dr. Dray's videos have helped me very much.
Same here, especially having dry eyes now is something that makes everyday life much harder for me as I love to do make up and stuff but my eyes turn red immediately when I apply e.g. mascara. My eyes feel so tired all the time 😩😩😩 I used revitalash twice for about 4 months a few years ago
I didn't do any research so I didn't know that it was going to cause any side effects and now I have ugly dark circles under my eyes so now I'm using creams to take away dark circles but nothing is working do you know of anything that will help to take away the dark circles
Maria Alvarez In order to get rid of dark circles you need to figure out what type of dark circles you have so you can treat them properly. You can tell by the colour, for example if you have a purple tint to your dark circles those are caused my vaso-dilation which can be reduced by restricting the blood vessels so using caffeine based eye creams can help (the ordinary caffeine drops are really good). However if your dark circles are brown that’s probably hyper pigmentation and its often permanent. I’d recommend you visit a dermatologist.
I used the Grande Lash Serum for a long time but had to stop!. My eyelids became very red and sore with little rosacea bumps along my lash line that were very sore. As soon as I stop using it, it went away right away. It worked at first but slowly over time it starts to irritate your eyes more and then it makes your lashes grow very uneven. I will not try again. Thanks for the video it was very helpful!
Bonnie Hingtgen yep! I used that for two years and it’s in the trash I got most of those side effects and it’s not fun... and you’re right after so long your lashes quit growing anyway then the problems start! Crazy!
Literally a revitalash ad pop up in the middle of the video. You saved my eyes, I was about to buy me a lash serum as a present 🙉 I noticed a friend has a permanent irritation around the eyes, now I know what causes it. Thank you!
I’ve used lash boost for almost 3 months, and my lashes are looking amazing. The main side effect I noticed is eye irritation/redness if I use too much and it gets in my eye. I do notice a visual difference in the skin above my lash where I apply the serum though

I am sad to hear all of that.... Latisse has been working great to me and I had not have any reactions in 3 months of use so far. I wish that this was not this “dangerous” as having “natural” long lashes are a dream come true. Hopefully something safer will be developed in the future for us to use!
Been using Revitalash for about a year. First time I’ve ever had long, thick lashes. I’m 71. I use it a couple of times a week now. Not going to stop now. No side effects.
Dr. Dray, what is your opinion on similar eyebrow serums? Are they still too close to the eye or have possible side-effects that would make eyebrow serums also potentially harmful? Thank you so, so much!🥰
I used lash boost for a few weeks and started noticing I was gettting dark hollows under my eye. I googled it and saw nightmare stories. Some had permanent hollows
I used to have lash dermatitis as a child, which did absolutely what Dr. Dray said: cascading problems. Less lashes, then irritated, thicker lids, and at age 32 (now) dry eye is something that affects me daily. Marvel in the beauty of the function of the eye.
I used Grande lash, i do have prior dark circles too. I was amazed how great my lashes looked, so i do use it other day now. As for dark circles, i don't know, they were bad before, so I'm not sure!
Always had a feeling that by leaving your lashes alone and not over doing it on mascara and “growth” serums would actually be the way to get your thickest lashes that your genetics allow. That and crying a lot, don’t have any research but I think something in tears makes your lashes grow longer, cause they’re there to protect your eyes and if you get something in your eyes your eyes water and so if your lashes grow you won’t get stuff in your eyes.
I've been using Latisse for over 10 yrs. There was a little irritation in the beginning and yeah my upper lids have a little discoloration but I've always had super dark circles. I love Latisse.
@@kubrasakeena8047 I've neverer used grande lash but have used revitalash and had the exact same results. My eyes have stayed green but my upper lid does have a little discoloration, a little darker. I just use the color science sunscreen/concealer all the way around my eye.
you have to remember there’s risks that come with everything. Drink too much pure clean water and you can die. The hyperpigmentation is highly reverse-able and not permanent. So if you see a change in your eyes simply just stop using it. As with the redness and irritation i recommend you do a “patch” test sort of like a test run where you only apply a very small amount on a section of your eye for 3-5 days and see how it goes. Then if nothing happens, continue use. Learning how to apply serums safely and correctly is a factor too. I’ve seen many people get the serum directly in their eye - and then they complain about the bad side effects? it’s all about use and precaution. don’t be scared y’all 💕
Your hair looks so pretty styled like that.! ❤ I wish more girls /women did things like you to be role models that we can be both beautiful and intelligent like you !
Here in netherlands we had an eyelash serum that had some doubtful ingredients, overtime users have reported that it changed their eyecolor from blue to brown or random brown dots. Its a very risky product
Kristen Murray yes exactly! It lasted for like 6 months? Until they discontinued it. And then there were people who bought it for around ten euros and reselling it for 50 euros that’s how crazy it was
I’ve used Lash Boost for several years. I’ve never had issues and my eyelashes are long. I checked with my ophthalmologist before using and he said not to worry. Hmmm. What gives?
Reactions are all relative. I used lash boost and never had issue. My friend used one of them (I think the prescription one?) and it changed her eye color.
I've tried one brand of eye lash serum and they irritated my eyes. My sight is too precious so I stopped and started using an eyelash primer on my eyes and then mascara to build my lashes. Thanks Dr. Dray.
I tried rapid lash and noticed significant blurred vision. That was after only about a week of use. I’ve just learned to accept my shitty lashes. 🤷🏼♀️
can you answer whether or not your vision stayed blurry? i’m panicking currently because i’ve noticed my vision is more blurry than usual and i’ve been using a lash serum. i’m hoping it’ll go away if i stop using it, but i would appreciate your feedback
Ive been using Rapidlash and I've honestly had no problem. Did you purchase a legit Rapidlash. Ive heard the fake ones do this. Or maybe you've accident put some into your eyes. I hope you have a full recovery.
I tried Revitalash for the first time last year and right away wherever I put the serum by the next morning was all purple and swollen I wasn’t sure what was going on at the time but obviously when I stopped using it (which was only after a few more uses) the discoloration and the swelling went away. I spent ALOT of money on that stuff too 😩 I wanted it to work so bad but definitely not worth the side effects from it and I could only imagine what would’ve happened if I continued use! Thanks for another informative video!! 😄
My ophthamologist associated with a teaching hospital prescribed it to me. No problems. Just a little sensitivity at the beginning. I love the way my eyes look with just a little mascara. And she said change of eye color is rare. I am sticking with it and if it starts to become a problem I will stop! My husband has glaucoma and has been using the drops for years with no problem.
Lindsey Compton don’t be. Approved by the FDA. I have used it for years. Could be a little irritating at first. I would not use anything non-prescription however. I also have friends who have used it for years no problem. If you are scared the best person to talk to is your dr. not a you tube doc who does not know you.
Thanks for posting this. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Dr. Lara Devgan's lash serum that came out recently. I read an interview with her where she claimed it doesn't darken eye color or the surrounding skin. She also said it won't cause any structural changes to the eye. So curious if, how, why it would work to increase lash length/thickness.
I have been using Grande lash for less than a month now and started to notice the blurred vision, I am definitely taking it back to Sephora. Thanks for the thorough breakdown on the side effects and confirming my hunch!
OMG. I Was wonder why my dark circles for getting worse and I had to use double the amount of concealer oh so my dry eyes are getting so much worse now I know why I quit using it.
Tarte has a lush primer that actually increased the volume of my lashes after cleansing. I was thrilled, and thought I could trust a natural brand like Tarte . After this post, I’m wondering if some of the ingredients are harmful. Can you recommend a product that is safe?
Going off on a tangent, but Dr Dray isn't a proponent of the "natural" or "clean" beauty movement. IIRC, she has a video on why "clean beauty" is a fallacy. I wouldn't trust Tarte just because it markets itself as "natural".
Leila Wolfert a primer is totally different than a lash serum. It is paired with mascara as an undercoat to make the lashes look bigger. Check the ingredients, but it isn’t meant to change affect your lash growth and so should not have any of those side affects.
lilly s Hand ion heart. At my last eye exam, the dr said there is no reason go discontinue use unless I develop symptoms but after so many years, she wouldn’t worry about it. Granted, I am not disregarding Dr Dray, just sharing my experience.
I use Revitalash and love it. I don't use it all the time and I 'paint it' on my top lashes close to lash line. Just trying to get a little more umph to my lashes prior to an October wedding.
Dannie Debe yes, it takes about a month but within that timeframe, you go back or even in my case, to sparser lashes than you had normally. I stopped using nulash bc of itchy dry eyes and went back to revitalash. For some reason, their formulation doesn’t bother my eyes.
Omg! Thank you!! I had started using a lash serum and have noticed a darkness under my eyes and couldn’t figure out why as I get the same amount of sleep as before.
I fancy myself a savvy consumer, years ago I did my research on prescription lash serum’s, I decided to pass on the Rx because of potential side effects. This Spring I took a trusted UA-camr’s recommendation on a prostaglandin type eyelash serum, without doing my research on over the counter products. I used serum for about a month (stopped using it about 3 months ago), I think it has damaged my tear duct on one eye. Oddly I now have random tearing (not cute) but overall my eye feels a bit dry and all these months later the tear duct is still tender. Don’t let this happen to you.
Angela Murphy i’m going through the same exact thing right now I got antibiotic eye drops 10 days ago and three days in maybe two days in my eye watering stopped today is day 10 so I’m praying that it fixed it but I don’t know if that alone will fix a clogged tear duct issue but I threw all my grande lash in the trash never buy crap like that again LOL it’s funny because the problem I’m having in just one eye as well it’s my right eye..
jama newman thank you so much for that information, I really appreciate it! I’m calling my doc Tuesday. So glad your eye is healing. It is funny we each had only one problem eye. Best wishes
A bit off topic - but I had lash extensions for about 2 years solid - and it's the worst thing I ever did to my lashes. I stopped using them due to increasing irritation to the glue and lashes alike - it didn't seem to matter what type or who did it - I developed blepharitis and peri-orbital edema and redness that just worstened. It took about 8 months for my lashes to appear normal again after discontinuing and to this day, my lash growth cycle seems to be stunted - I lose baby lashes quite often (they fall out before they even mature), and my lashes are nowhere near as dense and long as they once were. Never again! Due to my eye sensitivity, I refuse to put anything else near that lash line except good old face fash and whatever moisturizer makes it's way to my pores.
So family member used it and developed all side effects. But, two years after stopping still: sunken eyes, hyperpigmentation, eye discoloration. So, unless it is medically critical, think very very carefully!!
Castor oil won’t hurt anything but it won’t really help with growth either. What it DOES do though, is coat the lashes so when you put mascara on on top of the oil, it can make your lashes appear thicker and fuller. Still a decent little “hack” 😊
I used to have the longest thicket lashes, like reached my brows when curled, and I got extensions that pulled them out. Now it's been over three yrs and no growth. They're barely there. It's been so depressing. I was looking into getting a serum with good pic reviews on Amazon so this broke my heart.
:( Well.. you only live once.. so you might as well test the lash serum out..! It has tons of good reviews but if u ever get bad side effects from the serum, u can always quit
But why you got extensions??😐😐😐you already seemed having beautiful lashes... extensions looks ridiculous.. whatever, hope situation would be better soon... ❤️
Dr. Dray can you do a video or share your thoughts on magnetic lashes? I know a lot of ladies are using those now due to coronavirus and not being able to go to their usual lash extension appointments.
Thank you Dr.Dray for this video! I’ve been using lash serum for the last 2 years and had beautiful lashes but didnt know or remember ALL the side effects. No more for me!
I had laser surgery for eyes years ago and the side effect is dry eyes. So that was an existing issue before I tried a lash serum. I also live in a dry climate where the sale of moisturizing eye drops is high. Due to menopause my eye lashes were thinning to the point of bare patches so it is hard to have the protective benefit of eyelashes (and eyebrows for that matter) when you are losing them. I started using Rapid Lash four years ago to see if I could restore my lashes and found it does work to encourage lash (and eyebrow) growth. It doesn't give you masses of lashes (in other words more than you already have) but encourages enough to fill in bare spots, which is all I want. I have not had any issues nor discolouration. I checked the ingredient list and cannot find anything that appears as a prostaglandin analog compound. I have annual check ups with my Opthamologist who says my eyes are healthy. Having said all this I know there are counterfeit versions of this product so it bears mentioning to be careful where you buy it. Also, it may be that you have sensitive eyes and cannot tolerate it.
Any prostaglandin analog has "prost" in the name. These serums are often marketed as "hormon free" - because the natural hormone prostaglandin is not in them. Maybe (some) of the artificial analogs are not quite as problematic - and maybe they are. The most scary thing: sometimes the negative side effects (iris discoloration, sunken eye do not vanish at all - not even after months after use of serum has stopped). It's a bummer, because I would have liked to use one.
Never used the cosmetic off the shelf serums. I have happily used Latisse off/on for the past 8 years with success and the only side effect of upper lid darkening but to me it's no big deal because I cover it with eyeliner or shadow. Also I benefit from the fact that I don't have blue or green eyes which seem to be the ones most likely to suffer eye discoloration. Overall for ME the Latisse is a worthwhile lash enhancement product. Yes you need a prescription and yes it's not cheap but I get Good RX coupons which bring the drops down to about $65. Also I don't use it all the time. I will use it for a week or two and when I see positive length growth and darkness I drop off for a week or two and then I start again. I also don't use their applicators because they use up too much product that only gets wasted. I use an eyeliner brush and only dispense what I need so a bottle lasts me for a good 4-6 months.
I have used Bimataprost (Latisse generic) for over 2 years. I had narrow-angle glaucoma and was prescribed these drops for my medical condition, but after the surgery a year ago I continue to use the serum. (My ophthalmologist writes me the prescription.) I have never had any problem at all with negative side effects; however, I am very careful to ONLY put one drop (for BOTH eyes) on the lashes ONLY and not directly on the skin before going to bed. I also do not apply it to the lower lashes because it naturally transfers when I sleep. The placement of the Bimataprost is key for my particular case.
Ive been using Eyenvy for about 4 months, which does not contain prostaglandin. I've been very happy with my results. This may be a safe alternative for folks, however I will use with caution and will closely monitor any side effects. Thanks so much For Dray!
Sadly, EyEnvy was found to be "mislabeled" and a recall of the product ordered by Health Canada for a synthetic prostaglandin not being included in the ingredient list. 😏🙄😡
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched. I was thinking, this girl knows her science! Then I realized you’re a dermatologist, and now I’ve subscribed!! This was the most timely video I’ve probably ever watched, literally. I just decided to finally take the plunge and try one of these serums. I’m so thankful this video populated, I will stick with primer, mascara, and occasional magnetic lashes. I have super fair skin (so it’s consequently super thin) and my lashes are so fine and so light, they’re almost white, the struggle is real!! I will happily continue with the struggle over this wretched side effects! Seriously, thanks a million!!
I've seen people recomend using jojoba oil as a "conditioner" on eyelashes (they had a clean, empty mascara tube and applied pure jojoba oil with the mascara brush). I'm curious on your thoughts on that
I had heard to use castor oil, but never jojoba.....always learn something new! I know that castor oil is effective as I've used it.... But it would leave my vision blurry & make my face incredibly oily! I've reverted back to lash serums as a result, as it was really annoying to lay down in bed at night & my face feeling greasy. I had tried to switch due to the exorbitant cost of lash serums & I wanted to save money. But that's just my personal experience
Hi Sophia, I’m currently using castor oil and don’t have problems with blurry vision. What I’ve found works is to use only one drop to cover all lash and eyebrow hairs, so there won’t be a lot of excess that can seep into your eyes. Rub it gently along your lash line with a finger. Do this right before bed, and wash the eye area with warm water in the morning. I’ve not had blurry vision since I started doing this.
Hi! I have used castor oil before bed time on my brows and lashes (because during the day it would get into my eyes and blur my vision, because when you blink, your lashes can touch the waterline sometimes, depends on your eyes) and after a while I noticed a rash under my eyes, I think it was fungal acne, I have had it before and I think the oil just boosted it to where it popped up again.. The experience with the oil was very pleasant until that happened. So be very careful if you have had experience with (fungal) acne because it might boost something that wasn’t there before or that was almost about to pop up. Now I just use it for the ends of my hair. I would overall not recommend oil on your eyes/lashes.. or just use as little as you can. I have a pretty detailed/planned skin care routine and I think the oil just was kinda gimmicky/a step too far or something. Don’t know if it really helped. Maybe just buy a very small amount/tiny bottle and use it on the ends of your hair if you decide it doesn’t work.
Applying oils to your lashes might make them look thicker temporarily because you’ve coated them in oil; however, as soon as you wash it off, your lashes will go back to their normal baseline appearance.
My mom has been using Castor oil for 32 years and her eyelashes are crazy, so much that she has to trim her eyelashes every 3 months. It works but try to put the right amount because is a tick oil. I personally hate the feeling so I’m not very diligent but I know it works
I had a terrible reaction to 'RapidLash' serum. It has left a purple line where the product has been applied on my lashline as well as wrinkling. Please be careful with that product.
Instead of using on the eyelashes can these serums help with hair on your head? In places where it is thinning? Also Dr Dray, can you please discuss the New Total RF Serum ?
Jeez, I wouldn’t use these serums merely because I don’t want to have that sunken in, buggy eye look. Sucks how you never hear about these kinds of risks, even after researching the product, unless you’re lucky enough to come by the information from that one person.
orsikocs aw. I don’t mean that sunken eyes are bad. I think they are beautiful as any other eye. Audrey Hepburn for example, or Cher, Julianne Moore. Just saying when you’re not expecting that to happen to your eyes, it must feel jarring, cause it’s a totally different look.
@@IntoBlackHouse oh no worries! I didn't take it as u said it's a bad look. But imagine if u already have it and makes it looks more sunken 😳😂 def will not use these products lol
GIRL WHAT THE HELL IS THIS HORROR STORY OMFG
This story is so fake lol
@@summeryoung1026 girl I'm scared hold my hand
Yall this is horrible🙃😭
okay, i’m scared… but i still want naturally long eyelashes so imma have to take the risk 😭😭😭
I’ve considered a lash serum, but when I did my research and read about the side effects, I decided my lashes were ok as is.
I am scared of a false silk lashes...i was thinking of that, but then I decide to buy nice mascara and not to risk
Ана Буљешевић wearing false eyelashes isn’t bad for your lashes unless you wear them every single day and don’t remove them gently.
Melissa • 7 days ago that’s a good idea it will condition them as well as clean them. Shiseido also sells camellia oil too.
@@IntoBlackHouse I thought of those lashes that a cosmetitian puts with a glue and last 4 weeks and more....
- i doubled the amount of sunscreen and noticed a big difference in hyper pigmentation
No crazy break outs anymore
My skin looks super clear, which leads me to stop using foundation everyday.
Again, time and money!!!
Thanks!
Don't you even wash your face with water in the morning?
sweetandmore I don’t, either. It’s really not necessary for most people tbh. 🤷🏻♀️
sweetandmore yes, just water to wake up lol but no product involved

im using castor oil for about 6 months now and my lashes have definitely grown
I actually suffered loads of eyelash LOSS using castor oil. Was using sunflower oil as an eye makeup remover and realised my eyelashes were crazy long after years of pulling them out (trich). Only thing that has ever worked and discovered completely by accident :D
Me too
I’ve never clicked a notification so quickly, nor been so heartbroken. 💔😭
How are you using it, AM or Pm? And were you using it on your lower lashes too?
Thank you Dr. Dray for highlighting the concerns that other people don't mention, and being honest about the long-term risks! It is SO appreciated.
I’m 61 and have been using Grande Lash for 3 years. I have had NO PROBLEMS and for the first time have LONG, THICK lashes.
I love it and find it necessary to use only once a week now to maintain my LASHES 🤗
I wish they shipped to Australia!!!
Can I pay you money to send it to me? Happy to PayPal it etc
agree i never had any issues and i love it as well!
I use it everyday.
Dr Dray, could you please do a video on nail ridges, weak nails, peeling, etc? I see many advertisements on nail strengthening, fungus, etc. Wonder if this is all “snake oil” too like the lash serums. THANKS for all you do for us!
Curious about nail ridges, too! Wondering what other supplements she'd recommend that I haven't already tried lol
Yes please
yes! I’d love to see a video on this as well! I have tried everything to get my nails to stop peeling & being weak
but nothing has worked
-no supplement & no nail treatment. My hair is great-thick, normal, grows fast, etc-but my nails just tear & rip like paper ☹️
Good idea!
I too shall be waiting..for my hubby who has had a splitting thumb nail for about 3 years now. Thank you Dr Dray, in advance 😉
My eyelid margin hates everything, and my opthalmologist encouraged me to leave my eyes alone, so I personally can't imagine using these products.
Loved this video though to help inform people of what to look out for!
what eyelash serum did you use

girl I am literally in the same boat, I have undiagnosed trichotillomania and I pull my eyelashes. It’s so infrequent so some months my lashes are long and then sometimes i have patches that are blank! It’s so frustrating, but I am not using any lash serums, just some light castor oil!
Wtf
Yea I tried today and fields and I had no side effects except for itchiness
As soon as you will stop using it, they will look worse than before the serum ( just a fact.
It’s not a fact. It feels like that because your lashes go back to normal. I used rodan and fields years ago and all that happened when I stopped was that my lashes went back to normal. 🤷🏼♀️

That's when I finally stopped using eyelash serums
I should have stopped using eyelash serums a long time ago!

Since I‘ve been working from home and not wearing any makeup, using eyelash curler and mascara, my lashes have grown so long and healthy naturally!!

I got them once. It did look really good while also feeling so natural. However, it is very expensive for the length of time the effect lasts

@@ughok8757 oh my gosh! 😭 Yes they are brown I hate myself!
Happy Friday and congrats on 801k💖💖
Happy Friday! Thank you so much for your support
Crazy!
jama newman did your side effects go away after you stopped using it?
How is something with so many side effects & some serious additives even allowed to be sold.
Greed 😔

Hopefully something safer will be developed in the future for us to use!
remember these are only things that “could” happen
Been using Revitalash for about a year. First time I’ve ever had long, thick lashes. I’m 71. I use it a couple of times a week now. Not going to stop now. No side effects.
Dr. Dray, what is your opinion on similar eyebrow serums? Are they still too close to the eye or have possible side-effects that would make eyebrow serums also potentially harmful? Thank you so, so much!🥰
mangolover I’m very curious about this as well.
GrandeMD did wonders for my lashes. I’ve never had lashes look so good.
Did you notice any side effects. Like darker eyelids etc...
No, my eyelids have been fine. I have a lot of pigment in my skin already.
Lash Boost made my eyes super sensitive, and darkened my eyelid so bad 😭 it took about a year for the skin discoloration to go away.
I've been using Latisse for over 10 yrs. There was a little irritation in the beginning and yeah my upper lids have a little discoloration but I've always had super dark circles. I love Latisse.
I am using grande lash as of now, should I switch to latisse? Is it a better option, and have you noticed any of the side affects dr dray mentioned
@@kubrasakeena8047 I've neverer used grande lash but have used revitalash and had the exact same results. My eyes have stayed green but my upper lid does have a little discoloration, a little darker. I just use the color science sunscreen/concealer all the way around my eye.
@@Jenls72 yeah i noticed discoloration too, hopefully its not permanent haha!
you have to remember there’s risks that come with everything.
R u kidding me?!!!! I was just thinking of buying thiss!!!
Hello 🤗,
Did you buy a lash sérum in the end?
Here in netherlands we had an eyelash serum that had some doubtful ingredients, overtime users have reported that it changed their eyecolor from blue to brown or random brown dots. Its a very risky product
It probably had the same (or similar) prostaglandin active ingredient as the US’s Latisse. That side effect is noted with Latisse.
Laudanum 1987 so can latisse turn already dark brown eyes even darker?
Was it the one from Kruidvat? I heard that there was a lot of mixed reviews....
Kristen Murray yes exactly! It lasted for like 6 months? Until they discontinued it. And then there were people who bought it for around ten euros and reselling it for 50 euros that’s how crazy it was
@@hz8393 Thats the one! I saw it on marktplaats around that time for even more. Gewoon absurd!
Oh no no no that’s too many side effects
I’ve used a lash serum once and it somehow gave me 3 painful eye cysts...never again!
I’ve used Lash Boost for several years. I’ve never had issues and my eyelashes are long. I checked with my ophthalmologist before using and he said not to worry. Hmmm. What gives?
I have had no issues either.
Reactions are all relative. I used lash boost and never had issue. My friend used one of them (I think the prescription one?) and it changed her eye color.
Does it work for the eyebrows? I’m looking to use them for this
@@irrelevance3859 that’s what I bought it for originally! It works a bit for them, but much better on the eyelashes!

Did the blurry vision go away after you stopped using it? And did it occur all the time, or only when your when eyes were tired?
can you answer whether or not your vision stayed blurry? i’m panicking currently because i’ve noticed my vision is more blurry than usual and i’ve been using a lash serum. i’m hoping it’ll go away if i stop using it, but i would appreciate your feedback

I hope you have a full recovery.
I’m wondering this too!!
I literally just got my Latisse yesterday, and now I’m scared.
Lindsey Compton don’t be. Approved by the FDA. I have used it for years. Could be a little irritating at first. I would not use anything non-prescription however. I also have friends who have used it for years no problem. If you are scared the best person to talk to is your dr. not a you tube doc who does not know you.
Susan Hassey I did get it prescribed by a doctor. She didn’t say anything about these side effects. I guess it’s not that common then?
Thanks for posting this. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Dr. Lara Devgan's lash serum that came out recently. I read an interview with her where she claimed it doesn't darken eye color or the surrounding skin. She also said it won't cause any structural changes to the eye. So curious if, how, why it would work to increase lash length/thickness.
I have been using Grande lash for less than a month now and started to notice the blurred vision, I am definitely taking it back to Sephora. Thanks for the thorough breakdown on the side effects and confirming my hunch!
did the blurry vision stop??
Hi Tanya, did your vision return to normal?
OMG. I Was wonder why my dark circles for getting worse and I had to use double the amount of concealer oh so my dry eyes are getting so much worse now I know why I quit using it.
And my serum just shipped today, bought it yesterday. My oh my!!!
Just using coconut oil to remove my waterproof mascara has helped make my lashes become a lot longer.
Maybe the primer is fine since it’s not something you leave on overnight? What is it called?
Leila Wolfert a primer is totally different than a lash serum. It is paired with mascara as an undercoat to make the lashes look bigger. Check the ingredients, but it isn’t meant to change affect your lash growth and so should not have any of those side affects.
Leila Wolfert.. Lash primer and lash serums are two different things.
Is there any serums that are safe????
Wow. I’ve been using latisse continually for 10 years and don’t have any side effects beyond a slight darkening of the skin at the upper lash line.
I’m surprised
lilly s Hand ion heart. At my last eye exam, the dr said there is no reason go discontinue use unless I develop symptoms but after so many years, she wouldn’t worry about it. Granted, I am not disregarding Dr Dray, just sharing my experience.
Wow!!! I had side effects instantly. I stopped immediately. This goes to show how different our bodies react to any given product.
Same. I've been using on and off (mostly on) for 5 years
Did the skin darkening go away afterwards? Or is it permanent?
I use Revitalash and love it. I don't use it all the time and I 'paint it' on my top lashes close to lash line. Just trying to get a little more umph to my lashes prior to an October wedding.
When u stop using it, do u lose the length?
@@danniedebe9885 yeah, your new long lashes will fall out eventually when you stop using it. It only prolongs the growing phase.
Dannie Debe yes, it takes about a month but within that timeframe, you go back or even in my case, to sparser lashes than you had normally. I stopped using nulash bc of itchy dry eyes and went back to revitalash. For some reason, their formulation doesn’t bother my eyes.

Day 4 of using the Grande Lash Serum and I can tell that it had darker my eyes drastically. I’m returning it tmw!
I listened to hot and flashy. :(
Angela Murphy i’m going through the same exact thing right now I got antibiotic eye drops 10 days ago and three days in maybe two days in my eye watering stopped today is day 10 so I’m praying that it fixed it but I don’t know if that alone will fix a clogged tear duct issue but I threw all my grande lash in the trash never buy crap like that again LOL it’s funny because the problem I’m having in just one eye as well it’s my right eye..

Sorry that happened to you , god willing it will get better
Ayayay nice curls :)
thanks
So family member used it and developed all side effects. But, two years after stopping still: sunken eyes, hyperpigmentation, eye discoloration. So, unless it is medically critical, think very very carefully!!
Are there safe lash enhancing “serums” like vaseline, castor oil, or vitamin E oil?
I tried that I didn’t see results my skin broke out a lot though :/
try Pureauty Naturals Eyelash and Eyebrow Serum
Castor oil won’t hurt anything but it won’t really help with growth either. What it DOES do though, is coat the lashes so when you put mascara on on top of the oil, it can make your lashes appear thicker and fuller. Still a decent little “hack” 😊
@@justjessica8624 thank you for the info. I just ordered a bottle. It sounds like it's made from pure ingredients.
What about castor oil? Any risks with that?
I used to have the longest thicket lashes, like reached my brows when curled, and I got extensions that pulled them out. Now it's been over three yrs and no growth. They're barely there. It's been so depressing. I was looking into getting a serum with good pic reviews on Amazon so this broke my heart.
Awwww
Try castor oil . It works but u must use it daily at bedtime
i literally went through the exact same experience:(
:(
Well.. you only live once.. so you might as well test the lash serum out..!
Miny Hutchins 🤗 Good Rx is the best :)
Your hair looks so good styled like that!
Should I just use castor oil then? :[
How do you feel about mascara, in this regard?
Jeez, I wouldn’t use these serums merely because I don’t want to have that sunken in, buggy eye look.
Sucks how you never hear about these kinds of risks, even after researching the product, unless you’re lucky enough to come by the information from that one person.
My eyes are already sunken and have dark circles as is 😭😭
orsikocs aw. I don’t mean that sunken eyes are bad. I think they are beautiful as any other eye. Audrey Hepburn for example, or Cher, Julianne Moore. Just saying when you’re not expecting that to happen to your eyes, it must feel jarring, cause it’s a totally different look.
