Costas is undeniably intelligent and articulate but for some reason he comes across to me as a know it all and a bloviator. This admittedly may be completely unfair of an impression but something about his tone of voice to me usually conveys an unappealing self-importance carrying with it somehow implied condescension toward his audience.
Bloviator is a golden adjective for Costas. Two thumbs up. I think people would respect his institutional knowledge of the games he calls, but his method, tone and overall vibe exudes superiority and presents itself as talking down to the audience.
bob costas is at the point where everything he says he compares to the past. He is always talking about players faults and what they haven't done. Heck the guy showed more emotion w=with the line drive out up the middle than when stanton hit the HR.
Taught school for many years. Teacher of the year. Keynote speaker etc. etc. When it was time to let it go, I was oblivious. They had to gently persuade me. Father Time is a real force. Bob needs some nice friends to help him to his next phase.
I have never understood the Joe Buck slander. I personally have enjoyed him doing playoff games throughout my life.
It’s almost like the pitch clock has affected him in the way that he broadcasts games. He’ll start a story after a pitch and be in the middle of it when the next pitch is getting thrown and it makes it an awkward transition back to the action. Think he needs to let things sit a little more.
I think what's important to remember is that, as a 35 year old (not an executive 🙂), the people who want these personalities to continue because of their legacy aren't looking at the entire issue holistically. If I'm watching on tv, I want to be entertained. Someone like 2023/2024 Bob Costas is actively taking away from me being sufficiently entertained, and that is the issue that the "older" execs may not be looking at.
I've listened to Costas call baseball & other sports for decades. It's past time for him to retire from calling games. NBC finally said enough a few years ago when he wouldn't leave (announcing during Olympics) when he had pink eye.
He's condescending & insufferable.
He’s always been verbose. He’s a better storyteller than play-by-play. The thing is, it’s his career as a game-caller that got him the stories.
Maybe Bob stil has that olympics pink eye and he can't see straight
I respect his tenure and his career but I’ve personally never enjoyed him calling any sport. But as a Cuse 🍊 guy myself he’s still a legend. Just looking like the end of the road. Best to bow out gracefully.
I agree. Yet I don't think he knows how to.
He has always been a shitty broadcaster. His strength is a sideline reporter or a dude on a pre and post game
And if he is narrating a documentary style piece he is gold! But live is bla
I just don’t understand why they can’t let Michael Kay call the Yankees postseason games. The line drives and homers would get the respect and excitement they deserve. BTW, although Costas is bad, I’ll take him over Smoltz any day.
The whole broadcast was terrible. Bad camera switching with Stanton's double and shrinking the action during the interview with George Brett.
Bob was never the same after he caught pink eye.
His final call at the end was so stale. I think he ended with, 'well that'll do it." It was so bad.
Costas is the AOL of broadcasting.
“Joe Buck is a prodigy..”
ok bro this isn’t exactly classical piano by Mozart
Bob's, so much easier to listen to than most of those other 'national' broadcasters. Ya, I'm old school, but I like his pace, his word choice for those subtle comments and occasional, original cliches. I also enjoyed Micheal K's broadcast on ABC for theTigers wildcard, both these guys seem intelligent and listenable, while these other guys just ramble on... and on... apparently afraid of 'dead' air, throwing info at you with all sorts of analytical, tech-talk that's plain hard to listen to in their high pitched or artificial, studio voices, so quick I miss most of it . I end up not caring and turn the volume off -- doing my own play by play. (Wish they offered a mute for the broadcasters only -- with just the roar of the crowd noise allowed) Bob doesn't make it complicated (less is more). He has a way of including the listener, along with Ron, his color analyst, in with his comments and observations -- just the right amount of fun, enthusiasm and excitement without the endless hype and spin (for the most part), with a genuine love for the game. Unfortunately he is obviously past his prime and I don't mind his occasional miscue or past references (that I admittingly enjoy remembering with him), but I would always chose his play by play (along with M.K.) over any others (for the playoffs or national). He's not perfect, but OK by me.
Watching Dan next to David. You can see that David is the future.
Dan "I'm a friend of Bob Costas"
Fire him…Tell NBC that! He’s just a guy, take him off the air
I respect Bob Costas very much but I don't think it's right to say that he has earned the right to have the ending he wants. Costas has the opportunity now to exit the stage gracefully and with our gratitude. He shouldn't get to to dictate his terms to the great detriment of the product. That doesn't make sense to me.
It's cause people want a dude that's gonna scream after every play like a weirdo
I rather listen to David alone, honestly.
As bad as he’s been this year I’d take him every night forever to never hear buck call baseball ever again . Buck and mccarver were the two most biased hacks ever
I'm a year older than Costas and I've thought he was OTH for 35 years. Full of himself and OTH.
72 isn’t really that old … Jon Sterling was 72, 14 years ago.
that hit up the middle was a tricky one. i'll give him a pass on that one.
TBS crowd volume doesn’t help either
This part😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If Bob was with the normal YES guys it would be just fine. The bigger problem is the broadcast folks not knowing the team intimately.
Move him to the sideline/field (whatever you’d call it for baseball)!
That way, he’s still there, but he’s not dictating the perception of these important moments in people’s fandom and baseball watching. It’s the best of both.
The point is 99 other broadcasters actually trying to make a career out of this can do a better job than Costas clinging onto his past and nepo baby Joe Buck.
Costas, Buck, Michaels, even Berman's fastest 3 minutes, need to go. Rosenthal in the dugout is irritating.
He hates the Yankees
He Joe Buck, Ron Darling, Tim McGraw, hate the Yankees.....get rid of him
Who doesn’t?
That’s why I love him.
I'm not even a Mets fan but find it profoundly unfortunate that Gary Cohen doesn't get a national series
Chip Caray gets the same criticism Joe Buck gets.
I have never ever cared about who the broadcaster is!! Out of all the things to complain about, this is the softest
Costas was terrible when announcing the Olympics. He was so bad, I watched the Canadian Olympics feed instead.
When's the last time you saw Corso on a Saturday?
He can’t hit the euephus pitch anymore
Definitely
It be better if he wasn’t so blatantly biased lol dude sounds like a Yankees fan
It's the exact opposite. He hates the Yankees and doesn't show any bias. He shows contempt.
@@JuanOrtiz-jl9cw not from what I heard lol he sounded like he had money on them
@@JoshuaGonzalez1511Costas has never been a Yankees fan. He’s a Red Sox fan.
@@catali033 must have had money on them then from what I heard lol
Can't get any worse than Tim McCarver he was the WORST
I loved McCarver and Kiner back in the day.
Oh, now I get it. Now there're two guys scrounging for hate and clicks. No time for this. Outta here.
Joe Bucksucks too
I'm sick of listening to Costas
Vin scully>
Dan get a room, and please mouth wash after, I can smell Costas all over you buddy... having said all that Bob Costas will retire when Bob Costas wants to retire. Dodgers cried when they finally lost Vin Scully, a legend, and he was 200 years old then.
Al Michaels is going through the same criticism that Costas is going through. The great broadcasters have long careers because they are GREAT at their craft. I hope that the sports networks are not influenced too much by the no-nothings that dominate social media.
Im sorry, Costas had a great career but sometimes people make hot mic age related gaffes and wont let go until you make them (like Joe Biden for example). Costas has got to go from Play by Play, he can do other stuff but as far as play by play hes done.
costas is as boring as watching paint dry
He was the best there is most of my life in broadcasting . But he feels out of touch and redundant as hell. He spent game two speaking repeating the same Stanton cant walks bit like a guy who shit himself and refused to change his clothes
I'm not taking away from Bob Costas' legacy, but he is so boring. He brings zero life or energy to the games he announces. You can tell the difference between the Yankee/Royals game vs the Mets/Phillies game. Ron Darling is really trying to keep up the energy but Bob Costas is just sucking the life out of it I find myself falling asleep.
Paul Oneil is great broadcasting games Kay sucks......
Costas blows now
Hes to blah he used to b awesome legit
His appearance in the movie basketball said this is a guy who gets it
He no longer gets.....it. hes done i watched that game and could fall asleep to his blahzay enthusiasm
I stopped watching the N F L When he stopped doing games because of C T E he is a legendary voice he talks to much baseball ⚾️ broadcast don't need a history lesson between pitches like the collab
Costas and both Bucks are lame.
Omg, Costas is awful at calling games. He’s a good interview but not a competent pxp guy any longer
can we stop acting like Bob Costas is aging out! It's not that at all. He's terrible and always has been. Boring, smarmy, and bloviated. Age has nothing to do with it. It's who he is.
You're right at the top, then you give your opinion, which I disagree with. Costas has been a fantastic broadcaster for decades. And he is mostly just the same now as he's been for decades. Just some people love that style of broadcaster, and others want more bombastic voices calling games. Personally, I like both styles. Vin Scully, Bob Costas, both great, and so is Bob Uecker who has a more comedic style. I like Kay, who is almost the opposite of Costas and his more laid back style.
So he made a mistake? So what - all announcers do. He announces the game calmly and doesn't overhype it. For me its a relief compared to the say, guys on the ESPN sunday night games that won't shut up it and make a big deal over EVERYTHING. As an old timer I like to put a game on and not be overwhelmed by verbal garbage.
Stop it everybody thought that ball was going to center. Bob is an ambassador to baseball
He has ALWAYS been garbage.
