  • Sorry for the vertical video but I originally recorded on another app and uploaded it but this was too good of a case study not to share.

You are so right!... just had something similar with a vw tiguan 130k ...AD body went for timing/carb cleaning, oil cooler, injectors, some other stuff. work went well.. 1k later car came back for cooling issues overheating. well during inspection the balance shaft was never checked being the age of the vehicle and known issues. The balance shaft seized stopping coolant flow, which should have been averted. Dealership mentality usually is if a customer goes full tilt on recommendations "The Big Ticket" The last thing they want to do is add more work to the ticket regardless of what the tech finds or recommends during the repair. In this case the balance shaft stiffness "lack of motion" was noticed. But the tech was told to ignore it. I see and experience that crap a lot. Stay away from dealerships if you love your vehicle, unless it's warranty work. Dealerships almost all of them are untrustworthy , with the techs just getting caught in the middle.

I’ve always said we are car doctors. People need to realize that. Great video

100% agreed I use the analogy of doctors a lot to clients.

Couldn't have said it better! I did the same thing. Educating the customer & explaining why we do what we do and the majority will thank you & agree to your explanation. The one's that don't go to someone who installs cheaper parts & is not thorough and they will be doing the job again usually after they get stuck on the side of the road.

Great find! And great advice. I agree 100%, physical inspections are so important. Because of exactly that type of scenario. That could have bit you big time. 🤘😎

Good catch by you. Fortunately it wasn't one of those situations where the car has been losing coolant and the customer just keeps topping it off, but didn't tell you about the coolant loss. I've actually seen that happen. Great advice. Thanks for the video.

Heads up before it becomes a massive recall. VW 1.5 turbo motors. when you get one consuming coolant and can't spot the leak. Head gasket warpage. They are not sure what the cause is yet but are leaning towards secondary air pump causing carb build up. TAOS telltale spot to look is right rear corner of the engine with a light underneath shine on cylinder head corner you will see pink dust. customer complaint is "Keep having to add coolant no leak no smell". Same with jettas with the 1.5. It's so bad we have already redone a few of them. And thats with checking the cylinder head and block for warpage... Recall should be soon.

Yea been a thing in the past. I asked them about it as well due to the reservoir being low.

Hey man. Im super interested on how you set up your pressure tester to work on those tanks. Ive done several Accords head gaskets 1.5Ts and they dont have that tank which makes it easy to diagnose. Any adapter setup Ive tried doesnt work. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanx
