I am not sure what build you are talking about because we most certainly played "what's in my console" on the Dirtnali and I am still working on the new truck so of course you will see that.
Was your Father in the Navy, or did he know someone in the Navy. Flags that large are usually flown on large capital ships like Carriers and Battleships. It would be an "at sea" flag that is flown on the main mast when the ship is underway. When in port the main flag is furled and a smaller flag is flown at the stern and the Union Jack is flow on the bow.
None of the aircraft carriers I served on flew a flag anywhere near 35 feet long. Maybe under ceremonial dress. The only place I've seen flags that huge fly are car dealerships... haha :-)
@@markb.1259 You'd be surprised how big the flags are that they fly on the main mast. They are at least 10 to 15 times as big as a standard flag. I don't know the exact dimensions, but I do know that it took around 35 guys from Deck Dept to furl and fold the flag. As an aside note my younger brother had given our father a flag that flew over the Marine base in Kandahar. That flag is easily 20' - 25' long I'll have to ask him about it when we get together on Independence Day. Another thing to note is that you can also submit a request to the government for a flag that has been flown over the US capital Those flags are pretty large as well.
Cheap, easy for most with simple tools and a buddy with a welder. Great idea welding bolts inside for stability. Keep it rubber down and fly with pride.🇺🇸
Nice job! You could have left the hole on the top and enjoyed the whistle going down the road! Also you need Mr. Spotty stickers then you could put one on the end where it sticks out of the trailer hitch.
I bought one of the trailer hitch mounts. Bought 1" OD - Brushed Stainless Steel Tubing 316 Grade - 96" Long - 16 Gauge pipe. =bought a pair of alloy flag pole rings. I'm gonna fly my vintage (70's) flag thats 5'x9'5" flag. Going on my '78 Chevy C20.
I'm still using my imperial drills, although I do have a metric set, which I haven't used yet. One problem I've encountered is that we can't get 1/8" pop rivets here in Australia now. They are 3.2mm instead. So if I drill a 1/8" hole, the pop rivet won't fit in the hole, so now I have to drill a 9/64" hole instead. This same issue applies to most pop rivet sizes. Looking forward to seeing the new truck finished. All the best from Queensland Australia.
I only have a step bumper on my 86 Ram. So just put a bolt in the center facing upward to center it and used the 2 outer bolts to bolt it down and keep it kinda square. Mine is 8 foot above the bumper because that's the length of pipe I had.
Thanks for showing us how to build flag pole I really like the nut idea no slack for it to move around i work in a machine shop have an excellent welder and we powder coat also Im good to go

Hi Scott. I noticed the bench grinder. Do you have an opinion on what brand wheels to use? Mine are getting rough and I dont want to buy an off shore hand grenade model.
Yes, unless you want a flag pole that is 2ft past the back of the truck or want to build one that pivots. To me, it was unnecessary since I rarely use the tailgate anyway.
@@vehcor or has a pin. I know you said you didn’t like the wobble so you could also make it as you did but also put a pivot at the bottom of the pole so you could pull a well fitted pin and it would fold out of the way. There are flag poles and hitch bike racks that do exactly that. Still seems crazy to make it so you need a tool to simply open the tailgate.

The total time is about the same. 🤷🏼♂️
