I like the whole budget thing and more yet the fact that you want to fly the American Flag - thank you. I'm a US Army veteran and would make only one suggestion with respect to the flag - raise the flag pole height to keep the flag from dragging your truck bed. The US Flag Code states the American flag can "never" at any time touch the ground or surface beneath it.
Also states it should be flown on the passenger side

Sometimes having the pole that tall is not safe since some flags are large enough that it make them unsafe to run at certain heights, and some vehicles are already tall enough that adding flags makes them unable to fit in certain areas with low height requirements. That specific etiquette can be laxed a little since it is not touching the bottom part of the truck bed. But as some others have said, yes, the American flag should be on the passenger side and still be taller than ANY other flags flown next to it.
The zip ties are probably the second most American thing in the world.

I fly my flag year round. I made a mount that goes into my hitch. It can handle 80 on the interstate.
How often do u have to change the flag? Cuz on a daily basis I only commute to work on roads going 60 and the bottom right corner of my flag always tears up after a few weeks DX

@John while that is true, how would you explain the current society of today? There are Africans in Singapore, Europeans in Africa, Plenty of Europeans in SE Asia, Asians in South America etc etc. the world is pretty diverse as it sits today, and with technology progressing, that diversity will become much larger in every part of the world. In fact, many of America’s greatest innovations came from immigrants or the children of immigrants. Like Nikolai Tesla, Elon Musk, Robert Kahn, Einstein, Andrew Grove. Do you not agree that this country was built by immigrants? If not then why so? There is a clear example of what you mentioned and it is happening as we speak. BLM, NFAC and Antifa are not diverse, and unless you havent seen the news im sure you know how violent they have gotten. With that being said, we can look at their opposition, The Proud Boys. The Proud Boys are diverse, but they are not violent, atleast I have not seen them get as violent as Antifa and NFAC. So further disproves your point. The world today is not the same as it was 100 years ago. More and more people are being born from interracial parents, and in 100 more years diversity will no longer be a problem because probably over 50% of the population will be mixed all around the world. And I believe the US has a head start in that category.

Great design, very simple. Instead of zip ties, you could always use worm gear hose clamps though. They'd be reusable and a lot stronger. To protect the paint around the stake pocket, cut a piece of rubber off an old floor mat or bicycle inner tube.
You could also put one through the pipe in place of the zip tie that's holding the pole in place.
I might do this guy use hose clamps to hook it onto the truck to make it a little more secure

Here's a little tip for you using that thick PCV pipe is great for helping with the wind resistance... however before putting your flag pole in the PVC pipe drill holes through it and allow the wind to pass through the pipe making you be able to drive at higher speeds without issue

I am trying 3/4 inch 5ft electrical conduit($4.98) and a upper flag clip($2.68) from Home Depot and using 1x2 wood blocks(free, my wood scraps) also zip ties for the lower flag grommet. $7.66 per flag!

Always remember if you’re going to fly a single American flag on a vehicle it goes on the right passenger side of the vehicle. Just simple flag etiquette... love the pvc and zip ties idea btw
