For weekend warriors with spraycans: Use uv resistant lacquer and don't ask me how I know. Cheap hardware store lacquers generally not suitable for long term usage on outdoors.
People dont be affraid of sanding ots basically how they make see through plastic its easy this demo is professional as it gets what a perfect way to fix a head light you could not do a better job . Smart as hell must work for NASA or the GOV hehehehehe
Thank you for this video!! I’ve got a new mdx & my headlights were severely scratched by going through a car wash!! I priced new lights & they were like $1400 each! I’m going to try this & pray it works! Lol 🙏🏼
I don't have a machine, so i needed to sand it manually. I have a cheapy, not-ideal polish kit (turtle wax polish kit). I used 180, 240, 400, 600, 1200 > clearcoat > wax.
Do you use metal or wood rated sandpaper? I see red and gray ones for sale for those materials both with the same grit, not sure which is better for this. Im planning to do it by hand
All I used was a wet sand block 120 water works . Then I took a dremel with polishing tip and some Hairclipper oil or any oil will work buffed it for a couple minutes till it turned clear then i rubbed in some more oil use alot let dry and it is clear as when it was new . Almost the same thing just alittle less professionalism your way is the best ive seen my technique worked but yours kicked my way out the window
I am in the same game and have been a professional painter for 15 years and I have to say this guy is solid. His videos and content is sound. Loads of old school tips that young techs wouldn't even understand. Just one question did you need to use a plastic adhesion promoter with the 2k laquer? Thanks
Hello i tried to use a headlight kit on my car lights i have pressed to hard on my lights a i think its got hot and maid my lights worse and marked them can this bee fixed thanks
I stupidly tried to clean my headlights using sand paper (for sanding wood, stuff like that) as i didnt realise the difference, can such scratches from sand paper be removed too?
Can't remove the previous clear coat.. Its thick hard and nasty. Streaky clear. Unclear a real mess Comes off a little bit. Put on wd 40. Shines it a little bit 😲 I'm a bit scared of using say. 120 grit and damaging the actual plastic front lens. What's the answer thanks.
What brands of lacquer do you recommend (provide links if you have any)? And how long does a headlight stay clear after you do this to it? I bought a pre-owned car (2020) with a scuff on the front headlight that I want to fix. Even though the other headlight is fine, should I do something to it so its in the same state as the one I fix?
How much would cost this repair please? I need to repair headlight on Seat Leon FR. Are you a mobile repairer? Can I have some more information please or contact. Thank you in advance
Thx for posting. I couldn't make something out. What was the product paste and grit number you used to buff towards the end of the 1st method to make the heavy scratched area super clear? Is that a sponge pad you used or something else?
Do you have to remove the headlight completely? From my research, I’d have to take the bumper off of my ‘18 MDX to remove the headlight. I really don’t want to do that. Can I just do these steps by hand & cover the car to keep the clear lacquer from getting on my paint? What name brand is the clear lacquer you’re spraying? I’m located in the US! Thanks
Great video !!! Thank you. Just one question, what kind of varnish do you use for the method 2. Thx. EDIT : In my case, the polishing phase was enough but thank you again for this video, really helpfull.
Would using an angle grinder be too savage a tool to use with all the various grades of grit on the headlight as the rpm speed of these is much higher ?
Good to see you again love your videos well explained and yes your absalutly corect headlight can be costly I did mine exactly the way you showed me didn't even clear it yet but I will be really appreciate you going through these simple methods my quistion is what do you think of UV laqur ?
I had some bad scratches on SUV tailight. I followed the instructions, used method 1, and it turned out great! Saved me $164.
Awesome
Great Video, Step by step, Great work , now I know how these people are charging 200 or 300 dollars for refurbished headlights
Thanks for watching dean
Just saved me £800. Can't thank you enough.
Awesome Thanks for watching!

Extremely informative and helpful - while still being straight to the point and fluff free - thank you!
No fluff round here Alex
Seen this a million times, it still blows my mind.. from visibly destroyed to like new.
Cheers mate

Great final result. I am guessing the orangepeel from the clearcoat was buffed out once cured?
Great result - why buy new when you can achieve a finish like this. Many thanks as always.
Totally agree its an easy fix

Did it work?
@@juliainman8665 unfortunately I haven’t had time to try it out yet! It’s on my list to do though
What type of polish did you use ion the headlight in method one ?

Same results.. just takes longer

Nice video mate thank you for sharing. If done properly will this leave small scratches your able to see?
Not if done correctly

Really appreciate the feedback man thanks
Are you using a random orbital sander or a regular rotating polisher with no orbital motion?
5:08
What do you call you applied here is that a wax? And that color red you use for polish? What do you call that? Please reply.
It was probably a polishing compound. More than likely 3m fast cut
Hi, was thinking to buy a buffer polisher, is there any to avoid? I will only be buying a cordless one unfortunately
Would this method work on my tail lights ?
Yes as long as they are plastic
Hello i tried to use a headlight kit on my car lights i have pressed to hard on my lights a i think its got hot and maid my lights worse and marked them can this bee fixed thanks
Maybe start the process agaian

Can we use this steps for rear camera of car ?
Possibly yes. Rear camera may be glass though

Fantastic job! Any tips on how to weed free a mono-block driveway?
Thanks. How powered pressure washer then re sand
I have a question...on method one, how long will the shine last?because you are not using a uv protectant.
They seem to last a while but can be further protected with a ceramic
One question please
If i use method one of finishing and polish the headlight with a polish machine. I need to apply lacquer after that?
Hi thanks for sharing, when you’re machine polishing, what do you use, ie G3, G6, machine polish et003? Thanks once again.
I use 3m fast cut alot. Fsrecla g3 also. Any good compound is good tho
May i know the material used for spray application?
Is it sealant or top coat?
I lacquered these with 2k clear
Brilliant demo!
Cheers
Thank you for the amazing video, saved me $2000 although I had to go 80-100-120 etc
Awesome mate glad it helped
Thx for posting. I couldn't make something out. What was the product paste and grit number you used to buff towards the end of the 1st method to make the heavy scratched area super clear? Is that a sponge pad you used or something else?
Cutting compound after 2000 grit
What kind of polish was used to finish?
Moto windsheald can y use same method?thanks
Yeah why not
Can you use the UV clear coat after polish for double protection and shine?
Yes
It looks so easy until you try it yourself 😫 none the less , great video 👍🏾
You didn't mention using 320 grit but listed it so do we use it or no
Sanding stages 80, 120, 180, 320, 400. This system works
So I’m just confused after 3000 you sand it back down to 1000 then clear coat ? There’s no point of polishing ?
I offered the viewer 2 different options
What was the cream at 5:07 ? Cheers

You don't have to remove the headlight to do this kind of repair. Any good 2k clearcoat will do too.
@@cvrpov thank you for the reply!!
@@cvrpov Please dont use 2K clear coat on headlights! Its not made for plastic. Use the Meguiars Headlight clear coat.
Why lacquer if it polishes well
Longer protection
Great video! Can’t always get new headlights for a car over 20 years old…
Very true!
Great video !!! Thank you. Just one question, what kind of varnish do you use for the method 2. Thx. EDIT : In my case, the polishing phase was enough but thank you again for this video, really helpfull.
Thanks for watching!
Yet again another fantastic video, well structured and very informative 👍
Thanks Will. Your support is appreciated 🙌🏽
Is it okay to sand plastic headlight lens ?
Yes
But will the clear coat sprayed on last? I have heard stories that it will start crackin 1 - 2 years and I do not want that.
You hear stories all the time about everything
@@cvrpov Thank you. I will go for clearcoat then.
Can I use my oscillating tool to and down the head lamp?
Yes probably
Can you tell us what metal polish i can use
I dont use a metal polish in this video. For polishing use a good compound such as 3m fast gut. Farecla g3 etc
Amazing video not quite sure what lacquer is but I’ll assume some higher quality spray clear will work
It's a 2k lacquer. You can buy 2k lacquer these days in aerosol form
Amazing job mate like always.
Thanks 👊🏼
Is it a big problem if I only partially sand the headlight?
Yes and no. It will probably leave an edge where the uv clear has been sanded through. Depends if that will bother u or not.
@@cvrpov I see, thanks!
Are these plastic lenses?
Yes
Mate your work is just too awesome 👌
Thank you so much 😀
How much do you charge for 1?
Prices vary. Around £50
did you ever use dichloroethane method?
I've seen this done but never tried it
Is this on a plastic lens please
Yes plastic
How about glass lens
Very good mate, stay safe.....
Thanks brother you too
Would using an angle grinder be too savage a tool to use with all the various grades of grit on the headlight as the rpm speed of these is much higher ?
yep bit too savage mate
So like 2 power tools I don’t have and a painter I don’t have. Sweet
im pretty sure someone rough sanded my headlights...the scratches are just unreal
how'd this video work for you? I have same issue lol
Great finish 👍👍
Thanks my man
This is brilliant
Nice one
If you don't lacquer is a good wax enough as I've seen lots just use waxes 🤷🏻♂️ thanks
It is but won't last forever.. Will need topping up
How much woul you charge to do this
90 per headlamp if badly scuffed (but repairable)
Hell where have u been it's been weeks.👍
Churning em out as fast as I can brother 🤣
@@cvrpov Tell the wife your busy 👌
What are the tools used?

Have you used ppg deltron clear d8131 uhs and wht is it like as it has a low vlc
